Interference between multiple SocketConnections (mostly on closing), 6230i

Hello,
I'm writing an application that uses several sockets (MIDP SocketConnections), each operating in a different worker thread. My target model is 6230i.
The weird thing is that, even though the workers are clearly separate, socket operations seem to have "interference" on each other. For example, abruptly closing a socket (e.g. to implement cancellation) can simultaneously cause another socket to fail in some of its operation.
One extremely absurd thing I found (which I suspect to be a bug on the behalf of 6230i) is that if socket LINGER is greater than zero (i.e. turned on), quick disconnect/reconnect from/to the same address can fail sporadically (read: randomly). With LINGER set to zero this never happens.
The question then is, has anyone experienced this kind of weird behaviour on apps with multiple SocketConnections, either on 6230i or some other model?
Below are some further assumptions my app makes about MIDP sockets,
+ The underlying input/output streams are not synchronized, except for their corresponding close() methods. I protect against this by doing all reading inside the worker thread (so that only the worker thread can read()), and allowing only one thread to write() at a time.
+ It's a good manner to flush() after each write.
+ Basically, everything else (Connector.open & SocketConnection's methods) should be perfectly safe to invoke from arbitrary threads.
Millions of thanks in advance, at least it was therapeutic to write down some thoughts :)

Your screenshot shows that the content of that Preferences window is quite large.
That might be the cause of the disappearance of that button (i.e. it drops off out of view).
Did you make changes on the OS level to get such a large font size?

  • How to prevent interference between multiple Kinect v2 sensors

    Hi,
I have an application which used to use 3 Kinect v1 with partially overlapping field of views to have a large field of view of a scene. I am trying to upgrade this application to be able to use 3 Kinect v2, as the Kinect v1 is now discontinued.
I am having problems dealing with interference on the depth stream. Every now and then, the light from one of the Kinect will give bad readings on another Kinect... This is not new, the Kinect v1 had interference problems too.
To solve the interference problems with the v1, I used to simply toggle the IR emitters ON and OFF. Since my 3 Kinects don't need to acquire a frame at the same time, 2 of them would turn their emitters OFF and the one Kinect that would need to acquire a
frame would turn its IR emitter ON.
Now, since we can no longer control the IR emitter directly, can any one give me a good solution for preventing my Kinects from interfering each other ? My Kinects don't need to acquire a frame at the same time, but they may need to each acquire a frame
on a short interval (about 100ms), so closing and opening the Kinects is not an option as up to 2 seconds can pass between the call to KinectSensor.Open() and the first non-null depth frame.
    Thank you.

I've been pricing builds on Newegg that I could turn into a small Kinect cluster.  I need three for what I want to do.  this is what I have right now.  It's going to be a while before I can build up three grand so I don't know if I'll ever
get to do it. But on the bright side I would be able to use it as a cluster for other projects as well, so...yeah.  I was thinking i5 but the linked conversation is deterring me from that. Would you be willing to let me know some more of your system's
specs? Would love some input from anyone willing to offer any!
Link to conversation that deterred me from i5, specifically the post from "Carmine Si - MSFT":

  • Any improvements in sharing an iPhoto Library between multiple users?

It is possible and Apple Approved to share an iPhoto Library between multiple users, but the Library must be stored on a drive or disk image that ignores permissions:
    http://tech.kateva.org/2008/10/apple-supports-multi-user-iphoto.html
This doesn't work for me. Has Apple changed anything with iLife '09 to make it easier to share a Library? For example, have they changed from the prior Package format?
    Message was edited by: jfaughnan

Alternatives to a trip to the Terminal:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. The problem here is that OS X works very hard to keep your data safe and secure from the other users. You're trying to beat what's built in to the system. So, to beat the system
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Lastly: This method seems a little clunky at first, but works very well. Most importantly, it uses the System to do the job for you.
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.
No partitioning, no permissions issues. Uses no extra disk space. What's not to like?

  • MobileMe and working on a site between multiple Macs

In an article I was reading, the following was noted:
iDisk balks at file packages like iWeb's Domain.sites2 file, making it +difficult for MobileMe users to work on an iWeb site between multiple Macs+.
Does that mean working at the same time? Or, if for example I'm doing my site on my personal iMac, and then went to college or wanted to work on a MacBook for instance, cannot I complete working on my site through MobileMe?
I may not be getting it clear.
    Thanks.

if for example I'm doing my site on my personal iMac, and then went to college or wanted to work on a MacBook for instance, cannot I complete working on my site through MobileMe?
The point is that to work on an iWeb site with two computers, both must have a copy of the Domain file. There are various ways to do that, like using a memory stick or Dropbox. But uploading and downloading from MobileMe is most likely not practical.

  • Sorting between multiple arrays.

I thought that I had posted this yesterday; however as I can not find my post...
I need assistance with part of a project where I need to sort between multiple arrays; using one of the columns as the sort criteria. The arrays contain integers, strings, and doubles; however I would like to sort and display the arrays alphabetically using the string column. I was told that a bubble array may work, however as I can not find specific information on the use of a bubble array, I really don't know where to start. The arrays look like the following:
    productArray[0] = new Product(1, "binder ", 15, 1.5, 0, 0);
    productArray[1] = new Product(2, "marker ", 13, .5, 0, 0);
    productArray[2] = new Product(3, "paper ", 24, .95, 0, 0);
    productArray[3] = new Product(4, "pen ", 5, .25, 0, 0); \
Any assistance that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I am a newbie when it comes to Java and the course materials are extremely vague.

  • Severe interference between Airport Extreme (802.11n) and my Cable Modem

This post is in reference to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=897496&tstart=30
The root cause of the problem reported in the above post was determined to be a case of severe electrical interference between the 802.11n device and a Motorola Cable modem supplied by Comcast. I can provide the modem model number for anyone wanting it.
I found that at least 12" spacing is required between the 802.11n and the modem to avoid any significant interference.
I also found that if these two devices are physically adjacent the data rate performance thru the modem can reduce to almost zero.
I speculate that the 802.11n is radiating so much radio energy that it causes electrical interference with the modem's function.
N.B. The Airport Snow does not exhibit this same electrical interference.

I would connect the xbox 360 to the Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable and from the Airport Extreme back to my router would be wirelessly.
If you intent to connect the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) wirelessly to the router, this router would have to be another AirPort or one of a very few non-AirPort products that will work in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
Would this cause any latency problems?
Most likely, but that will depend on the two routers used in the WDS. If both are AEBSns, then the throughput performance would be competitive with at least 10baseT or 100baseT Ethernet. If not, then using an Ethernet cable may be the better option.

unless i'm missing something, i think you got mixed up, this is easy google for walk throughs
i'm assuming this is the new 3tb tc AC or 'tower' shape, if so, its wifi will run circles around your at&t device
unplug the at&t box for a minute and plug it back in
factory reset your tc - unplug it, hold down reset and keep holding while you plug it back in - only release reset when amber light flashes in 10-20s
connect the tc to your at&t box via eth in the wan port, wait 1 minute, open airport utility look in 'other wifi devices' to setup the tc
create a new wifi network (give it a different name than your at&t one) and put the tc in bridge mode (it may do this automatically for you, but you should double check) under the 'network' tab
login to your at&t router and disable wifi on it
add new clients to the new wifi network, and point your Macs to the time machine for backups

  • Question/Problem Sharing iTunes Library between multiple users

    Hello all,
I have a question (potential problem) regarding sharing an iTunes Library between multiple users.
In the past, I had placed the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared, and created an alias to it in the "Music" folder of each user, and it worked fine.  However, with a recent upgrade to Mac OS 10.5, only the Home user account can access the library.
I read the Apple Support Document http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203 uner Mac OS X which specifically states *not* to move the iTunes folder, just the iTunes Media folder (which I don't have, would that be iTunes Music?).
Any recommendations?  Should I delete the different alias, move the iTunes folder back to the home user, and then follow the instructions in the support document?
We're also looking to sync music purchsed on our iPod touches, as well as apps (which weren't supported in our privous Mac OS X version.
    Any advice is appreiciated.

    David Guay wrote:

    yes.
specifically states *not* to move the iTunes folder
*do* keep the entire iTunes folder in /users/shared, however, instead of creating aliases, launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder in /users/shared.
obviously, only one iTunes at a time can access the library !

I want to know if there is a special way (not using Windows API) to drag and drop data between multiple instances of a same executable.
I have an application built in LabVIEW, where the main window can open a child window. Each window has a plot control. Between the two windows, a plot data of main window can be copied by drag and drop.
And I open another instance of the same executable. Now there are two executables(A and B).
I want to drag and drop a plot data from the main window of B to the child window of A. But in this case, Drag Enter Event is not fired. I think that the event seems to be fired only inside an executable.

    Hi,
Placed images (as opposed to pasted images) in Indesign are by their very nature pointers to an external image file, so there is no way to slim down the size of your exported PDF other than by playing with the export settings. Other than that, ensure that your file is placed in Indesign at 100% and at the correct resolution for your desired output. If you open the PDF in Acrobat, you can also save as a reduced size PDF which may help.
    Good luck!

  • Fastest way you switch between multiple images (CS3) ?

I'm originally a Fireworks user (from 2001) and am starting to learn Photoshop as it is in my CS3 set and it's superiority in image editing.
BUT, I was suprised/shocked/P.O.-ed to notice Photoshop doesn't have tabs to easily switch between images like Fireworks has had for the last 7 years.
(Yes, I realize CS4 has that option now, but I'm not willing to dole out another $600 bucks for another upgrade )
    Anyway, enough ********.
    My question is:
"Can you tell me how you switch between multiple images opened in Photoshop CS3?"
I'm assuming there must be a keyboard shortcut I can't find, or something besides having to shrink down the images and routing through them . . .
