Internet Connect button gone

I just updated to Leopard and I cannot find the internet connect button. I can connect through a roundabout method, but why is the button gone?

534ever,
With the upgrade Apple morphed the internet connect features into the Network preference pane

Delete and re-download the Dropbox app. You will have to sign in again and adjust app settings.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
Try This - Renew IP Address:
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Internet connection (sometimes) slow to come back after wake up

    Hi all,
I started having a strange problem few days ago. First time it happened my husband gave the iBook back to me after using it, and I logged into my user account - and internet connection was gone. I checked the airport settings, the bars were there - went and checked internet connection from the other computer and it was ok. Rebooted, twice, fiddled with the internet connections - and suddenly, without changing anything, the connection was back.
So I though it was weird, but since my iBook has been fine since I got it 7 months ago I didn't think more of it. Then it happens again - this time I opened it up from sleep, and again no internet connection, couldn't even contact the router although bars were there and it claimed that it was connected to the network. This time I didn't even change the settings, but just looked at them, and after 5 minutes or so the connection came back. Then it happened again, same symptoms and same solution - wait for 5 minutes and it will sort itself out. But of course it doesn't happen every time - yesterday it was fine.
Anyone has any ideas what's going on, and possibly even solve the issue?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    12" iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi.
Sorry that the simple fix doesn't do it. There are other things you can try, since WiFi can be cranky in many ways. First, are you running an Airport base station or some other wireless router? If it is "other", then you might try changing the broadcast channel on it. WiFi operates on 11 different channels in the 2.4 MHz band, and you might get more reliable connections on a different channel.
The Airport base station is smart enough to switch itself to the best channel, but you may have to do your own adjustments with other routers. Most use channel 6 by default; if you are in a neighborhood with lots of other WiFi access points around all running on channel 6, you can get significant interference. Try switching to channel 1 or channel 11. Other devices in the 2.4MHz band can also be a problem: garage door openers, cordless phones, or baby monitors.
Note your own router could have strong signal, but it would be fighting all the other signals coming in. If you are in an apartment building or in a block of houses fairly close together, such noise could be an issue. My neighbor was having WiFi connection outages, and it turned out that he had five detectable signals from his neighbors, all but one running on channel 6 along with him (I was on channel 3).
The location of your router can also be important. According to experts on the web, it is better to have your base station higher than your iBook. My neighbor had another strike against him when he put his base station into the basement while he tried to work in the bedroom above with a laptop.
Anyway, there are many things that can go wrong. You may indeed have a hardware problem, but let's rule some more easily fixable problems first.
    Good luck.

  • WRT54GL: Losing Internet Connection after shutting down computers

I've got a Linksys wireless router, the WRT54GL.
When we set up the router and connect to the internet everything works fine. But when we shut down our wired computers and restart the laptop, the internet connection is gone, but I keep my local area connection. I already have done a firmware upgrade (v4.30)
Our configuration is as following: A Zyxel Multi-user PC modem, straight cable from normal interface to the WAN interface of the linksys router. Our (2) computers are connected by cable to the router, while we use the laptop for wireless connection.
Any suggestions to fix this problem?
    Jeroen

Open routers set up page using http://192.168.1.1 ..... leave username blank & in password use admin ....
Click wireless tab..... use any non-linksys network name (SSID) ..... use channel either 1 or 11 ..... click save settings .....
Click wireless security subtab .... use security level either WEP or WPA ....... have a note of the key ....
On laptop try to connect to network ....... or configure the wireless utility (if you are using WLAN) ..... see if it makes any difference or not ....

  • Turning On Airplay Mirroring on iPad 2 crashes router Internet connection

Using the new Apple TV 2 firmware 4.4 in combination with iPad 2 (iOS 5).
Apple TV 2 connected to Linksys E4200 router via Ethernet cable. I can stream movies over the network (USB-HDD
connected to router with router built in UPnP AV server). Samsung Series 6000 Smart TV.
    - AirPlay working great from iPad 2 to Apple TV and everything else iOS 5 is also no issue.
    BUT
When I turn On Airplay mirroring on the iPad 2 I can see the blue bar on top of the screen
indicating mirroring is On but only after a few seconds the blue bar disappears and the Internet
connection is gone for all users on my network.
I have to go in the router settings and reboot router in order to establish Internet access again..
I've gone through this 5 or 6 times now and I can single out the mirroring for the router crash.
    Mirroring has not worked once.
    Weird! Anybody?

It's was a router QOS setting.
    Steps:
    1. Login to your router
    2. Click on Application and Gaming
    3. Click on QOS
    4. Disable WMM Support
    5. Done
Mirroring working great now on my AppleTV!

  • ISP Failed, Internet Connection Intermittent

For a long time, my internet connection has gone through phases in which pages, images, videos, etc. stop loading something like every 1-2 minutes. I have seen gifs start loading incredibly quickly, in real time almost, then stop dead. Refreshing in this case yields an endless period of loading. I am fairly certain that this problem extends to all devices on my wireless network, but I rarely use two computers simultaneously, so I'm not certain of this. The problem is usually present for a few weeks at a time, then is stops happening for a month or two, if I remember correctly.
Whenever pages fail to load, I have found that, by opening Network Diagnostics (System Preferences>Network>Assist me…>Diagnostics…), I can temporarily restore internet connectivity. The Network Diagnostics window usually has orange lights for ISP, Internet, and Server when I first open it, though ISP's light is sometimes red. As I proceed through the program, the lights usually change after I select my network from the list. Network Settings will sometimes turn red, at which time all the lights below it will turn red as well. Whether or not this happens, though, the lights end up as green, and I am told that my internet connection seems to be working correctly. Most of the time, my internet connection will then work for some time (the length of which may vary). I have pored over all of Apple's network troubleshooting articles, none of which have resolved my issue. I have restarted my router and modem in the past, though not recently. I do not believe that the problem lies in either my iMac or wireless router (Time Capsule, 2 terabytes, 4th generation or earlier), as my modem (or possibly cable splitter) seems the liklier culprit, but my landline phone service and cable television service has not seen any service disruptions (all 3 services operate over the same cable, and are provided by the same company).
During a recent interruption of service, I used the ping command in Terminal to try to connect to the 8.8.8.8 server. The full text of the command and its output is as follows:
    Rays-iMac-8:~ lorenzocastoldi$ ping 8.8.8.8

for ping, in that order. I believe I've heard that the second entry in traceroute, with the three asterisks, is my router. Whenever I run traceroute, entry 2 is always like this, and I think this is the case for other people as well. This would mean, if I am not mistaken, that the first IP address, 10.0.1.1, is the weak link. However, I do not know how to proceed from here. When I traceroute other websites, it always appears as IP address number one, and it is contacted before my router, if #2 is in fact my router. I have read that 10.0.1.1 is also a private IP address, though I do not know exactly what that would mean for me. I am tempted to think that this IP address may be my computer itself, but that wouldn't make sense. It may be my router, again, but I do not know this for certain.
Because this is an intermittent problem, it can be difficult to examine it in any detail, but I should be able to answer most questions about it. If anyone has any potential solutions, or even hypotheses as to the nature of the problem, please let me know. I cannot solve this problem on my own.
    tl;dr: What is the 10.0.1.1

I acknowledge that service outages are common, but they shouldn't interfere with my computer's connection to my router, nor should they last for weeks straight or be temporarily resolved by running a diagnostic tool. Plus, my phone and T V would probably go down in that scenario, except for some very special situations. Electromagnetic interference is an explanation I hadn't considered before, but I don't run a cell phone or microwave all day, but only every other month. I'll look into it though—maybe I'll see how my computer communicates with my router during an interruption, or see if any large electronics are running at the time. However, my connection's been fine since I started this thread, when I restarted my base stations. Maybe that's all I needed to do after all. A strange issue nonetheless, though.

  • Are features of "Internet Connect"still available

Internet Connect in Tiger let you see the MAC address of the Airport Base Station you were connected to. Is that feature available somewhere else in Leopard since Internet Connect is gone?

Thanks for the info, but I am looking for the MACaddress of the base station I am connected to, not of the laptop I am using.
We are at a school where there are many access points and we are trying to determine how much bleed-over we are getting. In Tiger, if you launched Internet Connect and went to the Airport tab, you would get the Base Station ID. We could then determine which base station we were connected to and determine if we actually had the one with the strongest signal. We could also then monitor that base station for troubleshooting. I haven't found that Base Station ID information in Leopard. Can anyone help me with that?
    Thanks

  • Strange internet connection behavior

I am experiencing strange behavior with my internet connection. Overall, it's erratic. E.g., when I boot the system, the internet connection fails. Yet, after it does so, I am able to run my browser, load web pages, access streaming media -- all while right-clicking on the internet connection button on the menu bar shows no connection in effect.
However, for the most part I am unable to to download my email -- though occasionally that works, too.
Finally, I am never able to initiate an internet connection. E.g., if I right-click on the connection button in the menu bar and click on "Connection PPPoE," the system eventually informs me that it "could not find a PPPoE server."
Throughout, my DSL modem shows that I am connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Eric Weir

The MacBook is connected directly to a DSL modem. No router.
I checked and reset my account settings, although they were as you recommend before I did so. I also reset the modem -- disconnected power for about 30 seconds, then held the reset button in for about 10 seconds after reconnecting the power cable.
After doing that the system attempted to connect and reported it couldn't find a PPPoE server. After getting that report, however, I was able to load web pages and download my mail.
Checking network settings through system preferences with the situation as above shows that I have an ethernet connection but not a PPPoE connection. However, if, with the window for the latter selected, I click on "help me" and then "diagnostics," the system reports that the internet connection is working properly.
Bottom line at this point? I can load web pages and download email, but the menu bar indicates no connection. Paralleling that, the system says I have no PPPoE connection, but diagnostics says the internet connection is working properly.
Five minutes from now I may or may not be able to download email. I probably will be able to load web pages.
An AT&T technician is scheduled to be here this afternoon. This strikes me as an operating system problem, however, not a problem with my ISP.
Again, additional clues would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Eric Weir

  • Internet connection lost when restarting the computer

    Hello everyone.
I live in Denmark, and 6 days ago I bought a new TOSHIBA pc: a Sattelite L855D-100. From the very start there has been a problem with the wireless internet connection. When I restart the pc, the internet connection is gone afterwards, and I am not able to re-establish the connection in any possible way. I have to shut down the pc - wait a few seconds - and then start the pc in 'normal' way. Then the wireless internet connection is okay.
But the problem is the same every time I restart the pc.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
I thank You in advance for Your help and advice.
    Best regards Svend in Copenhagen.

    Satellite L855D-100 (PSKAYE-003004DU) <- Netherlands version
A brand new computer should work right off the shelf, Svend.
I would restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media just once. And then return it for a new one if things are still not working right.
See the section System Recovery, which begins on p. 4-16 of the User's Manual (attached).

In "purchases" while in my App Store, Mountain Lion says, "an error has occurred" and the green 'download' button is grey and I cannot re-start the download. I was abroad when I purchased this app and during download, my internet connection was lost. At the time, Apple was still offering the e-chat, so I did that and the man was very helpful and it was a quick fix, so my download button turned green again, and I was able to begin the download. BUT during the download, I was kicked offline once again, and I decided to wait until I was back in the USA. I will go in to an Apple store and ask assistance, but if there is something I am missing, I'd like to try that first. Thanks in advance for any advice.
