Internet connection failed in iTunes 7.01

I have been trying to update my 60 gig 5G iPod with the new software using iTunes 7.01. When I click update, it gives me an error saying that there is no internet connection available. I am able to connect to the iTunes store and other websites with no problem. I run network diagnostics using iTunes, and it says internet connection failed. I am running windows XP with all current updates. I am using a wireless internet connection. Somebody please help so I can update my iPod with the new software. Thank you.

That thread is similar to the Apple article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304468
Did you quit iTunes and relaunch it after changing the settings?

I cannot get my iMac with built-in airport wi-fi to allow internet connections to Nook and PS3. The devices access the network, but internet connection fails. Internet sharing is enabled, network security (WEP, WPA) is disabled.  What to check next?

On an additional note, I've purchased a wireless router and everything connected on the first attempt.  It just vexes me that the built-in wireless isn't working as a router.  Is this another example of "Mac only plays with Mac"?

  • Internet connection failing dozens of times daily for weeks now

My computer's connection to the Airport Express base station has no problems at all. But the internet connection goes out literally dozens of times a day (at no predictable schedule); this has been happening for almost a month. I originally thought the problem was with the internet provider, but I'm now beginning to think that either my settings are wrong, or that I have a corrupt file somewhere. Here are the details:
I connect via a cable modem (Time Warner - Road Runner). I know people have had problems with Time Warner, so I assumed that was the issue; however I've had 3 service calls and they've checked signal strength inside and out, and swapped out the modem and the cables. I don't think it is simply problems in our geographic area (i.e. greater Los Angeles) due to the fact that the Internet fails sometimes 40-50 times daily, and the problem began when I upgraded from an old Airport base station to a brand new Airport Express about a month ago.
The airport/internet connection is shared 3 ways: two MacBook Pro computers and one iPhone. My Airport's internet settings are as follows:
    Configure IPv4 using DHCP.
DNS Servers: 66.75.160.63 and 66.75.160.64 (note I have already tried swapping these for OpenDNS -- this did NOT solve the problem)
    Domain name: socal.rr.com
    DHCP Client ID: [blank]
    Ethernet WAN port: Default-Automatic
Connection Sharing: Share a Public IP address
    DHCP Beginning Address: 10.0.1.2
    Ending Address: 10.0.1.200
    DHCP Lease: 4 hours
    NAT settings are all unchecked
One of the main reasons I believe that the problem is with my computer's settings or a corrupt file is that I can fix the problem whenever the Internet "goes down" almost 100% of the time by doing the following: after loading Airport Utility, I make ANY trivial change (i.e. changing the DHCP lease from 4 hours to 5 hours) and then click UPDATE to refresh the Airport base station. This fixes the problem almost 100% of the time. But then, anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours later, the Internet connection goes down again. [Unplugging the power from the modem, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging it back in ALSO fixes the problem almost 100% of the time, until it goes out again a little while later.]
I can't think of what else to try -- but any advice would be greatly appreciated -- it's impossible for us to work with the Internet constantly going out throughout the day, every day.
    Thank you!

I had a similar issue with a local fiber provider in Loma Linda, CA. Internet connection with a new Airport Extreme was fast but with drops at regular intervals every day. Resetting the airport fixed the problem but there was one difference, even a direct connection through ethernet cord to the gateway also failed at regular intervals.
After trying everything, the problem was fixed by asking the fiber service provider to switch the port the wire from my home was connected to at a central box somewhere in my neighborhood.
    Good Luck!

  • WiFi self assigned IP and no internet connection after OS & iTunes upgrade

I have two likely related issues that started as a direct result of upgrading to OS X 10.8.5 and/or iTunes 11:
Starting tonight, after upgrading my OS and iTunes I am no longer able to use Home Sharing between my iMac and Apple TV. Apple TV is logged in to my network and Home Sharing is on, on both devices (signed in to the same account), but Apple TV says Home Sharing is not connecting to my iMac. My iPhone 5 is also not showing a Home Sharing connection.
I've restarted both my iMac and Apple TV several times. Logged in and out several times. Turned Home Sharing off/on several times, power cycled and reset my network modem once.
While trouble shooting my Home Sharing connection I noticed that under my Network settings, Wi-Fi is yellow instead of green and reads "Self-Assigned IP... Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xx and will not be able to connect to the Internet.".
When I go back to Apple TV I've found that althought it's connectted to my iMac through WiFi and I can see my purchased movies I can't view them becasue there is no connection to the iTunes Store (no internet coinnection through WiFi). But my actual network connection on my iMac is just fine.
So it seems that my new OS or iTunes upgrade has caused my WiFi to no longer allow an internet connection across teh wireless network.
Can anybody here tell me why that would happen and how can I fix it?
    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    David

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

    Hi,
I can find that there is a
same thread that you posted in the forum. I had replied it. Please check if can help you. Just remind that please reboot when uncheck IPv6 option and monitor the result. Meanwhile, please check if can find some relevant issue when you run
    SBS 2008 BPA.
In addition, please refer to the following thread and skip the DHCP check, then run the wizard. Please check
if this wizard can be ran completely. If run successfully, then enable the DHCP
    again.
    SBS
2011 is detecting DHCP on my network after I disable it and i cant continue setup
    Hope this helps.

  • Internet Connection fails upon startup (and from sleep)

I've brought a brand new iMac a week ago and continue to have problems with the internet. I have a very fast and stable connection from a homehub (wireless).
This is what it looks like when I go to diagnostics when the internet fails:
    Green - Wi-Fi
    Green - Wi-Fi Settings
    Green - Network Settings
    Orange (sometimes Red) - ISP
    Orange - Internet
    Orange - Server
From 'Network Diagnostics' I click on the continue get to the "select network stage" and then it says that "your internet connection appears to be working correctly" - I have to do this every time to 'wake-up' the internet!
I just wondered if it was something that I have to keep doing or if it's a problem which can be resolved.
    Thank you!

  • PS3/VITA Internet connection failed certain times ...

During certain times of the day (morning/afternoon) my ps3 and vita won't go online. I was able to get on fine at around 8pm last night but today neither of them will get an internet connection, they both get an IP fine and everything else connects fine (iPhone galaxy s4 Google nexus) I phoned customer support but they couldn't help me and pointed me towards tech experts but in all honesty I don't see why I should have to sign up with another premium service just to get my internet working how it should have worked from day 1.
I'm no expert in network administration but I know enough to know that it isn't my ps3 or vita with the problem, so I figure it must be some setting on the home hub 4 but ive tryed changing the settings multiple times and it makes no difference, but since I got it to work 3 days ago I've kept the settings the same, I just don't get why it will work then I goto sleep wake up the next day and its failing again?
Soif anyone could help me I'd be forever in your debt, I feel like I should have just stayed with talk talk as I never had a problem with them.

Is there some reason why you've not upgraded to 10.5.5?
That might be part of your problem at least.

  • Internet connection failed... when I'm clearly connected to the Internet

I've been trying, for the last 10+ hours or so, to update my iPad to iOS7.
Each time I do, it fails. (Error code 3004)
At the point it failed the iPad has become useless... when I power it up I just get the iTunes logo and the USB plug.
I have tried every single thing listed on the Help page, from changing Firewall Settings, to uninstalling iTunes and all associated programs, to resetting the computer, to connecting directly to my modem, etc etc etc. All this to no avail.
I'm clearly still connected to the internet, but iTunes thinks I am not, and therefore cannot restore/update my iPad.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi there RaceAddict,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes can't contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software isn't interfering with ports 80 or 443 or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (go to "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you're using a proxy, try again without using a proxy.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • Lost Internet Connection After Watching iTunes video

I know my subject line is strange because one may have nothing to do with the other, but it describes what happened. I downloaded a few videos from iTunes and played them on a TV using the s-video out. I made some display adjustments and that was it. When I went to go back online I could not get onto the internet via Airport. I ran diagnostics and I had green lights up until the internet (red light-failed). I made no changes to my network configurations. OSX updated previously. (not sure which version because I am at work)
    Troubleshooting Results:
-Power Mac desktop connected to internet with no problems.
-Powerbook directly connected to DSL modem via ethernet, web pages would not load, same diagnostic, internet failed.
-Restart Powerbook, network status says connected to internet via ethernet-green light, still web pages won't load, no message on Safari or Firefox browsers, just spinning
    -Pinged network from utilities-ping successful
I'm running out of things to try. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

It turns out there was a problem with my ISP (Verizon). They set up a new connection and all is well.
Sorry for posting an ISP problem on this forum.

  • I am wanting to restore my iPhone 4 (not 4s) to it's factory settings. Do I need an internet connection and/or itunes connection to do that??

As the subject suggests I want to restore my iPhone 4 to it's factory settings and am wondering if I need to have an internet and/or itunes connection in order to do that? I just don't want to get 1/2 way through the reset and get stuck because I don't have the required connections..
I DON'T want to restore any of the back-ups! I want to start from scratch..
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you

Thank you Lawrence, I did think that was the case, but it has been a long time since I have had to do it and couldn't remember.
I will have to wait until I get home tonight to do it

  • INTERNET CONNECTION FAILED ON MACBOOK PRO

Hello - Our MacBook Pro randomly doesn't connect to the Internet.  We know there isn't an issue with our service since our PC does not have any issues.  We get a page that states: You are not connected to the Internet.  This page cannot be displayed because your computer is offline.  2nd page: Network Port Configurations: Wi-Fi selected, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Settings, and ISP all have green dots, Network Settings: yellow dot, Internet and Server both say "failed" with red dots.  When I select continue button, I get this: Network Change Detected.
I don't understand how anything has changed, since we haven't changed anything...and again, this randomly happens only on the Mac, not on the PC!!  I'm sending this using our PC.
    Thank you!

I'm now on the MacBook....it's working again....

  • I have installed Airport Extreme in my study where the Sky broadband hub lives.  The internet is great in the room where the hub and the Airport Extreme live, but when I go to another room in the house, the internet connection fails.  Help?

How can I increase the range of my Airport Extreme?  I don't live in a particular large house...I just want to be able to use the internet throughout my house.  I purchased the Airport Extreme on the understanding that I would be able to access the Wifi connection throughout the house.  Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong, if anything?

Are your walls made out of sheetrock by any chance?
You could purchase another apple router, and set one to EXTEND the other to increase your range.

  • Internet connection fails on other user accounts

I'm having an issue since upgrading to Yosemite. I'm on a MacBook Pro (2012). I have not had any problems on my account (admin). However I have another User account set up on the same laptop for my girlfriend. When she is logged in under her account, she seems to lose access to the internet after about 5 minutes. The page doesn't load and then comes up with a server not available error. I attempted to restart the browser, turn off and on wifi (which shows full signal and she can access the printer and other things on the network) and the problem continued. I switched to my account and the internet worked fine, switched back to hers, and it still would not load a page.
The only way to correct this we found was to log her account out and log back in. Then it worked fine for another 5 minutes and the same problem occurred again. This has been happening repeatedly since the upgrade. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have also rebooted the airport extreme which seemed to help for a couple of hours, but the problem has started again.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
_Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network > Location > Edit Location.
_Add a new network location and give it a name like "home"
_Click apply and then lock the pad lock
    _Restart the computer and test.
    Hope that helps.
