Internet Exploder

I figure this is hte closest I can get to a section on this.
I need to use a website that requires Windows and Internet Explorer.
I've got Explorer 5.2 on my iBook, but obviously Windows isn't an option on it.
So, I was wondering if there's any way to convince the website that I've got what it wants. Without getting a PC, that is.
Any ideas? Thanks

You can try this.
1) Close Safari
2) Open Terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
3) Launch Safari. You should see a new Debug menu to the right of the Help menu. In it, go to User Agent and select "Windows MSIE 6.0".
That will give web servers the required user agent string; however, you still won't have any support for ActiveX controls and other Win/IE-specific features, if that's what the site uses.
If it doesn't do what you want, and you want to lose the Debug menu, in Terminal, type this:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0

  • .PDF on Internet Exploder

    I am unable to figure out how to get .PDF's to show up in Internet Exploder 5.0 and 5.5. Although the doc says the "icon in the upper left corner" was fixed in 5.01, I am still having problems. Netscape 4.75 works fine with no configuration whatsoever. Any ideas? TIA.

    Mark Arditti in Adobe's User forum suggested appending &ext=.PDF
    "When the original URL is too long Internet Explorer will incorrectly attempt to launch a plugin to read the data. This bug will prevent any ActiveX control for that MIME type from working correctly. Appending the following to the end of the URL will allow this to launch the reader: &ext=.PDF"

  • Link color in Internet Exploder

    I've set the text-color to white, if I type a text it's
    white.
    I've set the link-color to white, if I type a text it's
    white, however, as soon as I make the text into a link and check it
    in Internet Exploder, the link color has changed to purple. Also in
    Mozilla Firefox the link is purple, only in Opera the text is
    white...
    Also in CSS I've set the color to white. I didn't make a new
    CSS-rule, don't even know if that's possible in this case, I just
    went to the settings for this link and set it to white, this was no
    solution either.
    Can anybody help me with this?
    Thank you, have a nice day...

  • Won't display-MS Internet Exploder Does...

    I've had a problem from time to time with Safari not showing pages where Explorer does or will. For example, I'm trying to access a page from a realtor in Maui. The link is:
    http://maui.fnismls.com/publink/default.asp?GUID=36b045dc-9909-4ac3-8c2f-8e028e5 b1f89&Report=Yes
    The largest frame with the real content doesn't display.
    When I paste this link in Explorer, the window comes up fine. This isn't the first time stuff like this has happened.
    Any ideas??
    Safari Version 2.0.3 (417.8)
    Internet Explorer 5.2.3 (5815.1)
    iMac G5 2.1 GHz 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Ducky, Welcome to Apples User to User Help Forums
    I clicked on your link in Safari, page came up mostly empty expect for header? & little on side bars, opened Safari Activity window double clicked on URL that said not found & it open all garbled in that MS way that i have noticed when a site is IE specific.
    It shows up fine in (PBs) Firefox netcraft extension shows its MS webserver/ site so no suprise the that we Safari users are squeezed out.
    Perhaps downloading Firefox will be a good addition to your browser collection, for IE is no longer supported for us. Ipod envy?
    I do not think Safari is the problem in this circumstance.
    Hope this helps, Eme:~{)

  • CSS3 Multiple columns and Internet Exploder

    I developed a web page that needs a two-column layout and decided to use CSS3 to describe the columns: Really simple:
    .twocol {
              border-style: solid;
              border-width: 7px;
              border-color: #0476ac;
              -webkit-border-radius: 20px;
              -moz-border-radius: 20px;
              border-radius: 20px;
      -moz-column-count: 2;
              -moz-column-gap: 20px;
              -webkit-column-count: 2;
              -webkit-column-gap: 20px;
              column-count: 2;
              column-gap: 20px;
              padding: 10px;
              height: 300px;
    The CSS in bold describes the two column layout I want.
    Looked at in Internet Exploiter version 9 and it failed. And, since text was missing I did the "old skool" method:
    .colLeft {
              width: 410px;
    .colRight {
              width: 410px;
              float: right;
    Then in HTML:
    <section class="twocol">
    <div class="colRight">
    <p>Right column stuff goes here</p>
    </div>
    <div class="colLeft">
    <p>Left column stuff goes here</p>
    </div>
    </section>
    I commented out the stuff in bold in my stylesheet.
    Here is my question:
    Since I am using the HTML5 Shiv, ought not that to have created support for the multi-column declarations in CSS3 or is that just too complex?

    Well I sure wish Microsoft would give me the ability to check on Exploiter 10…
    (on My Macintosh).
    The two column definition worked on Safari 5.1.7 (which is certainly not the latest version)
    It worked just fine on Chrome 24.0.1312.57, which is close to current.
    It worked just fine on Firefox 19.0.
    Of course I didn't try 3 column or four column.
    Of course, just "north" of that is an "Amazon Scroller," which does not work on IE 8 or below… IE 7 reports an error with the script, but doesn't say which one (could be jQuery or it could be the amazon_scroller.js script). I have read (with interest) Al Sparber's commentary about jQuery and I am beginning to think he is right. However, many of these fun tools work brilliantly and are wonderful ways to please a client.
    If I could do a challenge throwdown for Al, I'd love to see him modify his horizontal glider to do what the scroller is doing and loop the images (please understand, this is something Al and I have discussed before and that I highly recommend his tools).
    I think Nancy gets the nod for "solver" here, though Al is always very helpful.

  • Internet Exploder 9 distorts some SVG images if rotated...why?

    In the above image, the cam-valve (the blue springy thing) on the right is done with PNG images, while the one on the left (and everything else, for that matter) is done with SVG files. It looks fine in Chrome, Firefox, iOS devices. But in IE9, some of the SVG images wind up looking skewed if they are rotated. But not all of them. For example, the rod and crankshaft at the bottom both rotate through the animation, and they look fine. But the fuel injector (small thing on the upper-right side) doesn't move, and its rotation apparently skews the image. I've examined the SVG files to see if there was anything different about the various pieces to explain this seemingly arbitrary skewing, but I can't figure it out. Anyone else encounter this and discover the culprit? I'd like to use SVG files when I need to and not have to worry that IE is going to mess them up.

    Hi there,
    This is actually a limitation of IE9. Please take a look at the EA 1.0 Known Issues:

  • How do I get internet addresses typed into the Run dialog box to open in Firefox and not IE?

    I'm a mechanic and my parts supplier brought me this promotion USB button which takes me directly to their special offers page.
    Basically it's a preprogrammed USB keyboard that presses the Windows key + R, then types their internet address in.
    However, even though Firefox is my default browser, this link opens in Internet Exploder. IE is verboten on any PC I use!
    How do I set the PC to use Firefox for EVERYTHING, including/especially addresses typed into the Run command box?
    WIndows Vista on this one (I know, it's not my choice, it came with it).

    Thanks. That fixed it. I use WIndows XP on all of my own machines - but this one is the boss's.
    On XP, once you set a default program, it stays like that. Vista seems to have a mind of it's own.

  • HT2470 Can Internet explorer be installed in Macbook pro

    1.Can Internet explorer be installed in Macbook pro?
    2.Can I have dual boot in my Macbook pro - with Mac and Windows ??

    No, unless you install Windows, which you can certainly do. Boot Camp allows you to install any number of different operating systems.
    If you're trying to use a website that refuses to load because it demands Internet Exploder, I suggest enabling the Develop menu in Safari's Preferences, and selecting a User Agent that placates the website.

  • Windows 8 Internet explorer only- an error occured

    I am using windows 8. NOT 8.1. I have tested flash player in firefox and chrome. They both work fine. The only browser with a problem is, of course, microsoft's internet explorer. I have the latest version of everything. I have tried uninstalls and reinstalls. I have checked to make sure activex filtering is off and that the flash player add-ons are enabled. Please, if you have any thoughts, let me know.

    Windows 8 is far from the best thing Microstuff ever released. I can't stand it myself. (Being a Mac user makes me appreciate it even less)
    8.1 is worse. Be glad you don't have it. I did for a while and it was hell. I had to reformat my laptop to get rid of it and I've blocked the update notification with a registry key, so it CAN'T even be offered anymore..
    I've never been a fan of Internet Exploder. I used Netscape in 1998. I switched to Opera in 2000, and Mozilla (now Firefox) in 2002. I have IE for testing purposes ONLY amd I would NEVER consider using it as my everyday browser. It's unsafe, full of security holes, slower than molasses in January and it's not even compatible with most 2007 web standards... this is 2014. ANYTHING ELSE would be an imporvement.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
    ANY of those will work where IE won't, using the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Website layout not good on Internet Explorer 7 - Help please?

    I created an html/css website using Dreamweaver CS5. The site layout looks great on almost all browsers except for Internet Exploder 7. It looks like all of the text of the home page is shifted toward the top. In IE7, the header titles of the bottom three boxes; news, renewable energy and success stories are pushed up into the large green content box.

    Does anyone have any suggestions? I will appreciate any advice or tips.

    Hi,
    as Nick said, "I wouldn't worry TOO much about that one". To support that, please have a look to these statistics:
    http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser_version-ww-monthly-201003-201103
    I think this is tremendously comforting. If you only want to see how the different versions of the IE browser present your side, you can use this link:
    http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage
    Otherwise, it's certainly good, if you validate your Web page. To cut it short, you did very well!

  • Is there an Internet Explorer for Mac Maverick?

    I have encounterd a Web site that ONLY works wirh IE.  The site is admnistered by the state's education agency.  My research says there is no IE for Mac because it is discontinued.  Any ideas?

    The Mac version of Internet Exploder was discontinued over a decade ago. Your state's education agency needs to educate itself.
    If you are so inclined, post the URL you are attempting to access in a reply. I will attempt to find a workaround.

  • Why is Internet Explorer 8 Not Recognizing Video on CS4?

    As we use Macintosh iMacs we cannot validate IE 8 on our CS4 Dreamweaver.
    But looking at a PC earlier we saw that IE8 did not recognize the video on our web page.
    We checked it at http://validator.w3.org But there was no given reason why.
    Does anyone know why? It works on Safari, Firefox and Opera.
    Thanks for any help...

    Microsoft's web browsers are bad. Very bad.
    But they all work with Flash if you have a Flash plugin and most people using Internet Exploiter download Flash. Problem is, that won't work for iPads.
    If, what you are trying to do is use HTML5, it simply won't work with a Microsoft browser. It will work with Webkit (Safari and Chrome) and will not work with Firefox until Firefox supports a video standard (which they won't until someone comes up with an Open Source video Codec).
    So Flash is still pretty much it.
    What I'm looking to do is to go with HTML 5 and do a detection for Internet Exploder and Firefox and offer a Flash alternative for them. I don't have an example yet, but I'll be looking at ways to do that.

  • Flash Player will NOT work in useless Windows 8.1

    I am now regretting upgrading to Windows 8.1 Flash Player (even after following ALL of the reccomended fixes on the forums) will NOT work in Windows 8.1 It is now clear that there is no official fix for this - if there was, Microsoft would put out an update which would fix the problem. As such, we are left with a bunch of patched-together "maybe this will work" unofficial fixes - of which none work.
    As with many others with this problem, I have Windows 8.1, 64 bit system with IE 11. Yes, I have the latest flash player installed. Yes, I can see the bouncing ball or whatever the hell it is in the grey box.. or the clouds moving in the other box. Yes, Shockwave in enabled in manage add-ons. Yes, ActiveX Filtering is not checked under Safety. I have gone through this checklist so many times, my head is spinning. The most annoying part when I "test" to see if the latest Flash version is installed (sigh, of course it is) is this message: "You aren't running IE in Windows 8" Well duuhhh. Of course I'm not. I just upgraded to your stupid 8.1 platform.
    So is somebody asleep at the switch at Microsoft? They roll out 8.1 and screw everybody who installs it when it doesn't work properly with Flash? Shouldn't they have tested this first? Why hasn't this problem been fixed yet? It is apparent that I'm not the only one who is frustrated beyond the point of seeing white at this incompetence.
    Does anyone know if there is a fix coming out for this outrageous error? Or shall we all just sit back and twiddle our thumbs like the gang at Microsoft?

    The problem isn't with Flash Player... It's with Internet Exploder. Pages and sites can't recognize the browser, so there's no way imaginable that they'll recognize the plugins in the browsewr they can';t recognize in the first place.  Microsoft is (and has been) aware of this problem, and their response is one of denial that would make the Obama adminsitration jealous.
    "There's nothing wrong with the browser, it's the entire Internet that's messed up." or "It can't be our browser, it's 3.5 billion users' computers that have the problem."
    Microsoft says to use "Compatibility View" and pretend you're using something else. I could never stand Microsoft's 110% pure garbage excuse for a browser, and have ALWAYS used something else.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
    ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
    Free yourself from Microsoft. You won't regret it.

  • I have only one window open, and get a warning when I exit that "You are about to close multiple tabs."

    I have Firefox 8 for Vista, and according to the "About" screen, Firefox is up to date. I heard this might be a problem with my plugins, so I updated them all. Still a problem. I disabled all my plugins and add-ons and still got the message.

    ONLY 8 people have this problem?
    Look, virtually all Mozilla's potential users are coming from Internet Exploder, which gets this ALMOST RIGHT, while FireF*x does it totally wrong. Including in webmail: there's no way I could have got to this forum without leaving 4 windows active or closing everything, including closing my mail without logging out.
    ONLY 8 PEOPLE? How many thousand simply throw up their hands & uninstall yr f- nurdware over this one single issue? Not to bore you with details, but I'm hardly unsympathetic to open sources that don't look like the best argument for Micros**t and Google hegemony.
    Btw, I said they get it -almost- right... It would be really nice if IE or >somebody< offered a checkbox to NEVER close multiple tabs. Look, if this bug disguised as a feature is useful to a few nurds by all means keep it as an advanced option, but PLEASE set up FireFox so it at least defaults to the real world.
