Internet explorer css row positioning

http://country-gallery.com/
On my index page, the box with our photo and where it says We update this site every day....is supposed to be in a row below the columns. I have tried to fix this issue with absolute positioning and clearing the float, but it doesn't help. Works perfectly in all other browsers.
In IE, it becomes a column.
How to fix in the css? Right now I have this div like so:
.borgeandjanet {
    width: 55%;
    background-color: FFF;
    float: left;
    margin-bottom: 0px;
    padding-left: 10px;
    font-size: 0.9em;
    clear: both;
    position: absolute;
    height: 140px;

yes thanks trying to not use absolute positioning
now i have the row floating below the columns, but...now it is floating to the left and not the right and I can't get it back over again!
http://www.country-gallery.com/
I have the section which starts with 'We update this site everyday' floating to the left and it needs to float right!
.borgeandjanet {
  clear:both;
  height:auto;
  width: auto;
  float:right;

  • Internet Explorer, Css, and Link colour.

    Hey Everyone,
    I'm not sure if this has already been discussed, I'm sure it has been but I couldn't find it. I've built a website in dreamweaver, I've uploaded it online, everything looks great, except in Internet Explorer. In IE the link colour is different that what I designed, it's as if IE is overwriting what I have written into css/html. Is there coding to stop this? I know there must be something, but I can't find anything online.... any help will be super helpful!
    Thanks,
      Anna

    This is a duplicate post, but your earlier one was attached to a thread that's more than a year old, so I'm locking the other thread.
    Please do not post the same question twice in the same forum.
    For help with your links, you need to post a URL to the problem site.

  • Positioning and internet explorer-CSS

    Hello! I'm a newbie to CSS (and to Dreamweaver, actually).
    I'm trying to create a dropdown (aka suckerfish) menu for a site. I
    was able to do this easily in GoLive using the MenuMachine plug-in,
    but I have not found a similar plug-in for Dreamweaver that works
    on a Mac, and I have to stick with Dreamweaver 8 for monetary
    reasons (no spry thingies for me right now) so I'm trying to learn
    the CSS coding for it. I'm working my way slowly through some
    online tutorials. Currently, I've managed to make it somewhat work
    in Safari & Firefox, but not Explorer. So I started working my
    way back, and I noticed that the placeholder dropdowns are somehow
    throwing off the positioning of my main text container. (I have not
    set the dropdowns to appear and disappear here--I'm just trying to
    get them to sit there for now.) I have tried a bunch of different
    positioning things in the menu container and the navigation
    container, but I can't figure it out--the main text container
    either jumps way over to the left, or way over to the right. Can
    anyone tell me what I should fix? Thanks!
    this one jumps to the right:
    http://www.christineu.com/dw_practice/tina_exhib_practice7d.html
    this one jumps to the left:
    http://www.christineu.com/dw_practice/tina_exhib_practice7dd.html
    this is how it worked before I added the dropdowns--looks
    halfway decent:
    http://www.christineu.com/dw_practice/tina_exhib_practice7c.html
    thanks again!
    Christine

    Just to update--I fixed the problem. I added "clear:both" to
    the main text container div, and it is landing in the right place
    now.
    http://www.christineu.com/dw_practice/tina_exhib_practice7ddd.html
    I am currently doing a "clear/float" tutorial, so maybe I'll
    understand the concepts better after that.

  • Internet Explorer immediately launches when try to open the desktop from the Start screen

    When I log onto my computer, instead of the Start screen opening, the Desktop opens, AND when the Desktop opens, Internet Explorer immediately launches there.
    Other times, when I log-on, my computer will open on the Start screen, but then immediately launches Internet Explorer on the Start screen.  I didn't click any Internet Explorer icons."
    Also, when I am doing something on the Start screen and decide I want to go to the Desktop and I click the "Desktop tile" it switches me to the Desktop and launches Internet Explorer.  Again, I didn't click the Internet Explorer tile.
    (I just wanted to go to the blank Desktop.)
    There is something telling my computer to always open Internet Explorer first.  When I tried a warm boot, the problem went away momentarily, but returned after a few days"

    Hi,
    What is your current situation?
    Have you checked the suggestions by Robert?
    When opening PC the start menu will automatically start Internet Explorer in APP mode, and if we set Internet Explorer to open in desktop mode, then it will automatically open under desktop when start?
    As we have no Internet Explorer in startup configured, so it won't start by itself. We may try to replace Internet Explorer item's position on the start menu with a different APP, then check what happens(drag and drop the desktop icon on the place of the
    Internet Explorer);
    Is the MSN webpage your home page here? If not, then there might be some application on the startup automatically launches this page, we may take a try to disable one at a time to check; and if this is your default home page, try to replace it with another
    one, then change it back.
    From the last response of
    this thread , it seems this is more related with the webpage than the browser?
    Best regards

  • CSS Positioning in Internet Explorer 7

    Everything seems to be fine in Firefox on both Mac and PC,
    but when I tried viewing things on my home pc in Explorer, my divs
    are out of whack. I recently added a slideshow function I found,
    but I don't think that caused the problems since it doesn't control
    my style sheet.
    The div "photo gallery" has been pushed down to the left,
    where it is supposed to be to the right of the slideshow.
    The link to my page is
    http://www.php.wmsgroup.com/eofd6.org/
    CSS is attached.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi again!
    This turns out not to be an APEX-issue, as I tought first, but rather a css-problem. Maybe therefore I'm in the wrong forum, but maybe someone can help me anyway.
    I have created two pages with the relevant element: (login with test/test please) one page with standard tabs and another with my own html-navigation. Now Internet Explorer has the option "Compatibility View" which in our company is activated by default. On page 1 it makes no difference, but on the second, with Compatibility View on, the drop-down box apeares behind my selfimplemented navigation bar. WHY IN GODS NAME DOES THIS HAPPEN??
    I have posted the same question in a german web-developer forum (here) also, because its quite urgent that I solve this, and as I mentioned above, many colleagues work with IE.
    So if anyone here is a css-IE9-expert... :)
    Thanks and best regards,
    Tobi
    edit: ok, its solved. The userpanel-div needed a "z-index:1;" attribute for IE. :)

  • Css problem in internet explorer

    Hi to all!
    On my page as part of the page template I have build in a little drop-down user panel on the left top of the page.
    html:<div id="userpanel">
      <span><img src="'#APP_IMAGES#openSlidedown.png" /> <a>logon: &APP_USER.</a>
      <div id="userpanel_hsreg"><p>Autorisiert für: &APP_CODES_DISP.</p>
      <p>| #NAVIGATION_BAR#</p>
      </div></span>
    </div>css:#userpanel,
    #userpanel * {
            position:relative;
         font-family:verdana; font-size:12px;
         margin:0; padding:1px; border:0;
         white-space:nowrap;
    #userpanel a,
    #userpanel span { display:inline-block; }
    #userpanel>span>a { color:#999; }
    #userpanel span:hover div { display:block; }
    #userpanel>span:hover > a { color:black; }
    #userpanel_hsreg {
              display:none;
              position:absolute;
              left:+5px;
              top:+24px;
              background:#fff;
              padding:10px 18px;
              line-height:180%;
              border:1px solid silver;
              border-radius: 6px;
              box-shadow:1px 2px 5px #aaa;
              z-index:99;
    #userpanel>span>a {
              border-bottom:1px solid silver;
              margin-top: 5px;
              }So what happens is this: if the user hovers over the "+logon: username+", a little box pops up with some further information (the item &APP_CODES_DISP.) and the logout-link. Below this link, the Navigation bar starts. So while the box pops up, it covers a part of the region below, what its meant to do.
    The promlem is, that this doesnt work in Internet Explorer properly, when its launched from apex. Instead, the popup-box is displayed behind the region below. In Mozilla, as always, everything worls fine. This problem ocured already, when I opened the html-file from desktop, but I fixed that by putting the z-index-attribute in. Only now, in Apex, its still now working in IE. I am not that of an expert in css. I have tried different XHTML declarations in the header, all no difference.
    The current one:<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">This might be a bit of a tricky issue, so I dearly hope, someone can help me. (Similar problem like the other threat I started recently here where the round-corner attribute is not working in IE-Apex, but this time its a bit more vital. :) )
    I have v 4.0.2.
    Thanks and greetings,
    tobi

  • Menu positioning problem when viewing in Internet explorer on a pc

    Hi guys,
    I have created a website for a football team and I am having problems with the menu. It looks fine in all browsers apart from Internet Explorer. The menu positioning is meant to be on the left hand side but shows far right on the screen when viewed in Internet Explorer. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?
    http://www.stormersfc.co.uk
    css sheet - http://www.stormersfc.co.uk/style.css
    Hopefully someone can help.
    Cheers,
    Roy

    Hummm....its difficult to tell. Youre using so many redundant css styles ie not needed.
    Youre 'leftPan' <div> container is 140px in width but your ul (unordered list inside it is 244px wide?
    Why set widths and heights when they are not needed. You have no idea what height the ul and li will be in other users browsers. A child element placed inside a parent container will stretch to the full width without specifying a width for the child element. The key to web deisgn is keeping all the maths 100% correct. If you so much as get anything out by even one px it could break the design.
    #leftPan{
         margin-left: 90px;
         width: 140px;
    #leftPan ul{
         width:244px;
         height:250px;
         background-position: 0 0;
         padding-top: 0px;
         padding-right: 0;
         padding-bottom: 0;
         padding-left: 0;
         margin-top: 1px;
         text-decoration: none;
    I see no reason why your based structure ie the 'container', 'header', 'mainpic', sidebar1 and 'mainContent' should not work in all browsers. Now what you have inside those may be casuing the conflict. I would strip the page back to the base structure (check that it does work in all browsers) then begin to fill the containers, checking as you go.

  • I'm developing a web site using MVC3 & Razor, but my css changes do not show up on FireFox, but do on Chrome & Internet Explorer - How can I get Razor to render correctly on FireFox?

    I don't have a public version as I'm just staring development.
    For an example I have completed the walk-thru at [http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/getting-started-with-ef-using-mvc/updating-related-data-with-the-entity-framework-in-an-asp-net-mvc-application]. Then I tried changing minor items in site.css (such as font size) and the changes did not show up on FireFox, but do show up on Chrome and Internet Explorer.
    Example of change below: I changed the background from #e8eef4 to #ff0000. The table header background shows up in red for chrome & IE, but stay in light blue for FireFox.
    <code>
    table th {
    padding: 6px 5px;
    text-align: right;
    background-color: #ff0000;
    border: solid 1px #e8eef4;
    </code>

    You can also reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
    *Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

  • I want to put a row of my favourites at the top of the screen like the favourites bar in internet explorer !!

    when i use internet explorer I get an irritating message saying internet explorer has stopped working, which is driving me mad so I will not use explorer any more I am trying mozilla firefox, there is a function in explorer that I like which is a favourites bar below the row of open windows below the address bar can this be activated in firefox thanks PC.

    Yes, you can rearrange / move the elements of the default Firefox Toolbars and combine to save space by using the Customize mode, see this. <br />
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar <br />
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Toolbar_customization
    As far as the Site Advisor add-on - with add-on Toolbars your results will vary depending upon the Toolbar add-on. Some Toolbar developers do a minimal job and their product isn't as customizable to the extent that Firefox provides for; where other Toolbar add-ons were done the "right way" and they are as customizable as the default Firefox Toolbars.

  • Spry Alignment and Positioning Problem in Internet Explorer 6 and 7

    I am designing a website at http://atoment.007gb.com, and neither me, nor my partner can figure out why the Spry Horizontal Menu Bar is loading the way it is in Internet Explorer.  We are doing this for a school project, and eye appeal and workability is a top priority.  I changed and customized most of it, but even if i did keep it the same, it still wouldn't work. I have only the best confidence, that even given the amount i have changed, you will still be able to help me with my alignment problem.

    ok, but how can I make it work with what I have.  All the css codes are the

    The original SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css does not have any issues in any of the browsers. If you go and modify the original, and it does not work anymore, then the logical conclusion is that you have made one or (more likely) multiple mistakes.
    In other words, you cannot make it work with what you already have.
    My advice is that you replace the original CSS and work from there; but instead of changing the original CSS, make your changes in a separate stylesheet so that you can monitor and test the code at each change. For instance if you want to change the colour of the text you make a style rule that overrides the original in your new stylesheet as follows:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
        color: #333;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:hover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:focus {
        color: #FFF;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemHover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenuHover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarSubmenuVisible {
        color: #FFF;
    If you want to change the background colour to an image, then follow the same procedure, testing your code at each step.
    I hope this helps.

    the page looks stupid
    Can anyone enlighten me on this phenomenon please? lol

    When you find lists like that getting too long, it means -
    1. You are not using CSS optimally, and
    2. You are using too many fonts

  • Why do pictures appear in the wrong position in Firefox but in right place in Internet Explorer?

    I am running Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6.6 and have been looking at the following website www.finningley.org and on the home page there is a picture of an aeroplane that appears in the correct place on Internet Explorer but is over the text in Firefox. I have tried changing the resolution but Firefox always looks incorrect whereas I E is fine. What can be done to solve this issue?

    The overlapping is caused by the fixed height of the containing DIV:
    <pre><nowiki><div style="border-style: inset; width:645px; height:127px"></nowiki></pre>
    If you leave out the height then it looks much better.<br />
    <pre><nowiki><div style="border-style: inset; width:645px;"></nowiki></pre>
    I don't know if you can make that gallery work properly with scroll buttons.

  • CSS Problem with Internet Explorer 8.0 Filters and linked reports

    Hi ,
    The Internet explorer 8.0 re presents the filter prompt for linked reports and a warning of "Prevention of XSS" is flashed on the browser. Is there a patch for this since changes in Interner explorer security setting are not possible to be changed in all clients.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Shivakanth

    Jovaini,
    IE 8 handles threads different than previous versions. Thus, if you sign into an APEX workspace and then try to start a new instance of IE 8, that process is no longer seen as a separate process like IE 6 & 7, but rather as another "tab", if you will. Thus, as soon as you log into workspace 2, your login credentials for workspace 1 are invalidated. This is true even if workspace 2 is the APEX Admin Console, as it uses the same underlying authentication mechanism.
    To solve this, you have a couple of options:
    1) Use two different browsers (i.e. IE 8 and Google Chrome).
    2) Use the hostname for one session and the IP address for another session. This will limit you to two concurrent logins.
    3) Either edit your local hosts file or if you can, have your network administrator create a number of aliases to the same APEX server. You can then use each alias for a different session with the same browser. APEX manages its session cookies based on the hostname, so if you have 10 aliases, you will be able to be logged into 10 separate workspaces within the same browser using this approach.
    Thanks,

    Try this without the border images and it will work in all browsers with increased text size. That's assuming eBay supports embedded CSS styles (which I'm not convinced they do).  Inline styles are safer IMHO.

  • My verticle Spry menu will not work in Internet Explorer

    I know a lot of people have posted about similar issues, and I've researched multiple "solutions" on multiple forums for something that will work, but nothing has solved the problem so far.
    Here is a link to the prototype homepage: http://www.abrasivesales.com/indexnew.html
    Everything looks great on my mac when opened in Firefox or Safari, however when opened on Internet Explorer on a PC, the menu ceases to be verticle, instead extending horizontally past the end of the screen.  Also, the menu items adopt a white background color, and none of the submenu items will appear when their parent menu item is rolled over.
    PLEASE HELP....this issue has kept me from launching the site for a week now, and my superiors are wondering why this problem is taking me longer than it did to build the homepage in the first place, so I'd love to look like less of an idiot.
    I assuming this is a CSS issue, so I've posted my CSS code below:

    I solved one of my own problems.  It turns out I still had a setting for width set to "auto" instead of a pixel amount.  So now my menu displays normally and my submenus are no longer invisible.
    One one tab, "Products", I set the top at -430px, which internet explorer seems to ignore.  I'm so close!  I'll search for the answer but any help is greatly appreciated.
