Internet Installation... Horribly Disappointing

I thought Verizon was going to be a step up from the other ISPs, I was severely mistaken. I haven't even gotten my Internet set up and I already had some of the worst service. It unbelievable how many other complaints there are for the same reasons. This is a last resort to see if anyone at Verizon can finally get my Internet set up. It's a bit long...
Placed an order on April 30th (online), went through smoothly, got a $5 discount (hopefully that'll still be honored) .  A bit upset I'm forced to buy a phone line if I only wanted Internet...
My install date was for May 6th, confirmation said everything would be brought with the install tech when they come. The time frame given for installation was a bit ridiculous, it said to be home from 8am to 5pm... so I had a take an entire day off of work for that. I had gotten a second email a few days later confirming the installation.
Waited around all day on the 6th, until 4:30 came around and things were looking grim, no one was there yet. I called into the help number on my order and the automated system said there was problem with the order (that was suppose to be installed at 9am) and that it was on hold.. It's frustrating not being informed when this sort of thing happens.. I didn't receive a phone call, an email... nothing.
I get ahold of a person who confirmed there was a problem with the lines in the central office... Ok fine... they said to me it would be fixed by the end of the day and they'd have to give me a call back the next day to discuss setting up another installation time and even said we can discuss compensation (really not sure what that would be). I figured ok not so bad...
I get a voicemail the next day from a supervisor who then went on to say, the engineers said the lines to my house were bad and the problem won't be fixed until May 21st!? She then went on to say that she realized this was a while off and they will expedite the matter with the engineering department. Alright, so maybe it'll be done sooner but what the heck.. the 21st?
I called in nearly everyday after that until the 19th waiting for confirmation it was expedited and each time was told it's still the 21st. Obviously they couldn't honor they claim of expedition.
Called in on the 19th to try to get a supervisor to confirm what's happening. I was then told they are still working on the matter and that the expected resolution date is now May 30th!!?? I was furious, I told the supervisor I'll have to think over what I'm doing here and if I'm just to going cancel because this is ridiculous. Funny thing, he was so quick to try to get me over to their cancellation department, like they were just waiting for me to say this. I said no I don't want to cancel right now I have to think it over. Honestly there was no one else in my area who had lines set up already to my house. RCN already jerked us around for over for 2 weeks claiming we could get service until we got a never mind and Service Electric is just a horrible company with a strict data cap.
Called back on the 20th to make sure they didn't cancel the repairs on me. I wanted to get to anyone in the engineering department to get some exact information as to why this is being pushed back again and customer service said that, they don't have a number to transfer me to, they can only "chat on their internal systems with them", they're all I can talk to and that's all of the information they have.
This whole situation is extremely unacceptable, I just can't believe how horrible these circumstances has been. From my experiences so far, I would never recommend Verizon to anyone. This post probably won't do me any good but just wanted to share the terrible experience so far, very disappointed.

What's the speed of your subscription? How do you measure the speed of your internet in your Dell machine and Macbook?

  • BT Infinity installation - so disappointed

    Hi
First post here in the hope of finding some support and guidance please.
It's a master socket issue. Like many older houses, the master socket is located in the hallway and there are no electric plugs nearby. As I understand it, the hub and router need to be plugged into the master socket and two electrical plugs. I have a telephone extension in a room upstairs running straight off the master socket close to electrical sockets and I wanted to have the home hub and router installed there. Having read many of the posts on this forum, I rang BT to request that on the day of installation that the master socket be exchanged with the one upstairs. First of all I was told point blank that this was not possible. Not at all. Then I was put through to another area where I was told that it was possible, but at an additional fee of £193. The reason given was that another separate engineer would have to be called out on a separate day to do the work. When I mentioned that I was aware that others had had this work done as part of the installation, I was told that the engineers should not be doing that. I am so confused as to why this sometimes appears to be included as part of the installation package and sometimes not. I also don't understand why the possibility of this additonal cost to move the master socket is not made clear when placing the order - I can find no mention of it on the BT infinity order site and given that there are many older properties around this must be a common issue.
Needless to say, I cancelled my order and will be looking elsewhere but am sad and disappointed as my family and I were looking forward to our first fibreoptic broadband service.

Thank you John, swaber and boe for such quick and helpful replies, very much appreciated. So it seems that there are a number of possbile options, all available on the day of the installation and all available as part of the standard installation process at no additional cost.
Does anyone know who I can contact at BT please to take this further as surely it can't be right for there to be such a huge difference between the experiences you've all had and the kind of response I've received? It's especiallly disappointing as we're longstanding customers of BT - landline for over 30 years - so I had hoped that moving across to fibreoptic broadband would have been relatively straightforward. Sadly, it would appear not.

  • Old DVR on a new installation -- Horrible Customer Service Experience

I have been a Verizon customer for less than 36 hours and I've already been berated by uninformitive customer service reps and been passed around to the point were I'm seriously considering going back to TW.
My "triple play" was connected yesterday and during the installatin I noticed I'm being given an old (6416) DVR. I know for fact that Verizon has been sending out and advertising new (7232) DVRs for a while now, and I'm paying the same price so I asked the Technician and was informed that they did not currently have any 7232 DVRs at their particular location but that this would be an easy fix if I just called 1 800 Verizon because Verizon would be more than happy to replace the DVR if I wanted to. That sounded simple enough so I let it go and didn't make a big fuss during the installation, but boy was I in for a surprise.
I spent a lot of time on the phone today. The first rep I spoke to on the phone had an insanely horstile attitude and asked me "What does it matter if the box looks like the old ones if it can record?" which is an obsurd question as we all know this is not about what the box "looks like". He then proceeded to get very insulting and condecending, telling me I should go online to upgrade, cutting me off to repeat the same instruction everytime I tried to tell him it's not possible to do so online (or atleast I don't know how). He would not let me speak to another represantative so I hung up.
I called again and I was told there is an "option" if I  justlogged in to my Verison that lets me choose specific me which equipment I wanted and that there is nothing they can do. So I thanked the rep and headed online only to find out there is no such feature. While trying to figure out where to do this online I was prompted to Chat with an online rep for help so I did:
To my astonishment, the online rep informed me that there is no way to do this online and that I should call a local Verizon store. When I asked if he could please give me the address or the phone number of such store in New York City, he said he did not have that information!
So basically I have spent hours trying to fix something that is not my fault to begin with. I just want a new DVR and I don't think I should have to pay the upgrade fee because I just had this installed yesterday..., can anyone help please?

    Hello Aj88
I sent you a private message to help you with your issue.

  • Internet speed horribly slow

I am using a brand new computer with Windows 7 64 bit Premium Edition, and I can't even watch videos on YouTube!
Also any page on the internet is slow to load.
Here is a copy of my speed report from dslreports.com:
    <a href="http://speedtest.dslreports.com"><img border=0 src="http://www.dslreports.com/im/99869921/7948.png"></a>
I am soooo tired to turning my modem off, waiting 10 seconds, and waiting another 45 secs to reconnect to the internet.
    Please help.

    According to: http://i.dslr.net/imc/0/0/7/9/99869921.png
You're getting your speed. That's about 89KB/s measured when downloading since there are 8 bits in a byte.
I would see about getting 1Mbps pushed to the line, even then. It's free and  it helps.

The first to bring me 1Gbps Fiber for $30/m wins!

  • Firefox crashes or slows in an unpredictable and inconsistent way so I am going back to the dreaded Internet Explorer a disappointed customer - at least thats just slow!

I don't have time for products which require my time to feedback to the company why their product does not work!

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • IPod Touch 4g internet conection works on and off

I got my new touch just a while ago after my classic died, it worked great. Then out of the blue the internet performes horribly. 99% of the time now I get the error that I cant connect to the itunes store or appstore when I open it. If I can get it to open and download something; it fails instantly saying cannot connect. In safari the internet is meh, sometimes it wont open certain pages but does a lot better than the apple store. My email works fine. When Im one facebook however if I try to view lots of images after the first few it will say no internet connection, my newsfeed seems to work okay though. My other apps that use internet are also kind of glitchy but some work fine while others dont work at all. I have no idea what is wrong. I tried a restore and the ios upgrade and a bunch of other stuff. It is not jailbroken if you are wondering. I am also having more app crashes now and i have light leakage in the right bottom corner. Anybody know whats going on?

I would start with a simple reboot of your router. Just unplug from its power source for 30 seconds or so. When it has completely restarted, try things again.
If you are having app crashes then you need to either reset or restore your touch. I would start with reset (you can do this while your router is rebooting) by holding down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Let go at that point. If you still have problems, do a full restore via iTunes.

  • Purchase Lion prior to new SSD installation?

I am currently running Snow Leopard on my 2011 iMac from a 120Gb SSD.  I will be replacing the 120Gb SSD with a 240Gb SSD this weekend, and I believe it might be a good time to upgrade to OS X Lion.  I would prefer a clean install of Lion on the new SSD, and intend to do this through the Internet Recovery feature, but I have some concerns.
    1. When should I purchase Lion? Can I purchase it during the Internet Recovery proceedure, or do I need to purchase it before hand?
    2. When I performed a clean Snow Leopard install on the original SSD, I deliberately abandoned the additional printer drivers and language packs to conserve space.  Will I have this option with the Internet installation of Lion?
    3. Is it possible to burn a recovery disc of Lion once it's up and running?
    4. Can I restore my Snow Leopard Time Machine backup to Lion?
    Thanks in advance!  -Jason

    1. When should I purchase Lion? Can I purchase it during the Internet Recovery proceedure, or do I need to purchase it before hand?
Internet recovery is not available until Lion is installed on a machine.  You can
purchase Lion and then download it but do not start the installer.  Follow the
    instructions here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20080989-263/how-to-create-an-os-x-lion-ins tallation-disc/
You can then use this disk/USB stick to do the Lion install.
    2. When I performed a clean Snow Leopard install on the original SSD, I deliberately abandoned the additional printer drivers and language packs to conserve space.  Will I have this option with the Internet installation of Lion?
There no longer is any custom install option available for Lion as there was
    in Snow Leopard .
    3. Is it possible to burn a recovery disc of Lion once it's up and running?
Use Recovery assistant, which can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
    4. Can I restore my Snow Leopard Time Machine backup to Lion?
Not sure of this one as I never use Time Machine.  You could get
an external SATA->USB adapter and connect the old drive and use Migration
Assistant, as you will probably need to start a new Time Machine backup
    for the Lion install.

  • My phone won't send outgoing mail.  Won't send some text messages and now when it's not on wireless and only 3g the internet won't load.  Help!

These are ongoing problems.  I really want to go back to my android.  This moring the problem was sending outgoing mail.  I have done a restart.  I have cleared my cookies.  Some text messages I have to send twice to non-apple phones.  When I'm not on wireless and I'm on 3g there is no point in even trying the internet.  Very disappointed in this phone.

if your having issue with your 3G service, then you should contact your cell phone provider as they handle cellular networks.
in the mean time you can try a reset, hold down the home/power button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for you phone to boot back up.

  • High Speed Internet Install Hangs

Another user already posted this problem but I seem unable to reply to that thread.
I am having *exactly* the same problem, namely:
Today is my Service Ready Date. I opened a browser and got the 'activation page', entered my line number, then got to download the verizon high speed internet installer for mac. Once I opened this I got to set up a username/password, then the installer went through a series of checks, and finally gets to 'saving settings for *******@verizon.net', where it says 'Please Wait, This step could take up to 3 minutes'. And it just hangs at that point. I waited for an hour and nothing happened. I tried again later with the 'resume installation' alias that was created when I quit the installer, and it jumps straight to that step as expected, but hangs again.
What could be causing this? I'm using a mac with MacOS 10.6, the modem is a Westell 7500, and the plan I've chosen is the 3MBs.
    Thanks for any help!
Note: I copied the original poster's description of the problem because it is accurate in my case, revising only the OS version to reflect my own.

Update: 12 hours later.  Still not solved.
    Utterly appalling.
After 20 minutes on hold waiting for a second support chat, then a 20 minute chat during which the rep repeatedly asked for information I'd already given, and then congratulated me and told me the service was working (it is not) ... the rep finally conceded they could not help me and said a Mac rep would call me on the phone in "20-30 minutes."
It's 90 minutes later.  No follow up, no call.
On my own I have re-started modem, re-started computer, trashed preferences for that Verizon activation software.
    The last seemed to help.
Each time it got a little further.
Eventually it assured me I had completed the activation process. It gave me a confirmation.
Meantime Verizon has also e-mailed me saying congratulations, my service is up.
But when I try to connect to any page through the DSL in a browser, I keep being re-directed the Verizon activate / welcome page (which, believe me, I am pretty tired of seeing by now.)
    https://activate.verizon.net/launch/welcome
... if I follow those steps, it tried to download the software *again* and start all over.
Seems I am in an inescapable loop.  Can I really be the only one who's had this problem?
I have now three times "activated" my internet service and still I am re-directed to the "activate" page.
I can only say, at this point, I wish there were an alternative to this terrible company.

  • How share ADSL Internet connection to all machines without RRAS but using Windows Server DHCP and DNS

    Hello!
I have this scenario on my small network with 10 PCs (connecting from outside to inside my network):
    1) Modem with ADSL connection
    2) Wireless Router with public IP on WAN interface
    3) Switch
    4) Server 2012 with DC/DHCP/DNS (with 2 NICs) and others servers/desktops machines
I want to share internet to servers and desktops.
I was able to share internet by 2 methods searching on google, but I am not satisfied with them:
First method - Using the Wireless Router and its DHCP Server
I turned on the DHCP inside the Wireless Router. All machines will get an IP and be able to go to Internet, but I don’t have the ability to control the DHCP and DNS in the router
how I would like to have, because the server DHCP and DNS must be turned off on Windows Server.
Second method - Using the Windows Server RRAS NAT, DHCP and DNS server
I have 2 NICs on the server:
    NIC1 - CONNECTED TO SWITCH
    IP: 192.168.1.1
    MSK: 255.255.255.0
    GTW:192.168.1.1
    DNS:192.168.1.1
NIC2 - CONNECTED TO WIRELESS ROUTER
(the LAN IP of the wireless router is 172.16.0.1)
    IP: 172.16.0.2
    MSK: 255.255.0.0
    GTW: 172.16.0.1
    DNS: 172.16.0.1
After installing and setting the RRAS with NAT at the Server, the internet began to work on all machines but at some times the internet stop to load some
random webpages, and if you hit a couple of times the F5 button, the webpage open sometimes, but very, very slow.
I saw other people in foruns saying that RRAS is not very good, and could cause weird things at internet connection, so, now I think the internet is horrible
because of RRAS. After notice that internet is bad I tested it connecting a cable direct to the lan ports of the Wireless Router, and the internet works fast and perfect.
What is the best thing to do in my case to maintain Windows Server DHCP and DNS turned on and Internet be shared without loss of quality?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
please deploy according to this network topology. please turn off DHCP from router and use internal NAT function to share internet. Detailed configurations:
    Router part:
    LAN address: 192.168.1.1/24
    DHCP part:
    scope name : site name
    address pool: 192.168.1.3-192.168.1.254
    scope options:
    router:192.168.1.1
    DNS server:192.168.1.2
    DNS part:
configure a forwarder to point to the public DNS address such as 8.8.8.8
with these settings, you can maintain Windows Server DHCP and DNS turned on and Internet be shared via hardware router.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Leopard install nightmare

    Hello,
I've had a bit of a nightmare installing Leopard on a first generation base model MacBook. I put the DVD in and did a standard install (ie, not archive/erase and install). Everything seemed to go fine at first and the MacBook restarted after about an hour of installing. But the initial window that comes up (the one where you need to type in your password before you get access) wouldn't let me type in my password. The cursor was flashing, but typing on the keyboard did nothing. When I pressed login anyway, the window sort of 'shudders' but nothing else happens.
I restarted the computer a couple of times and now the screen goes white and a flashing question mark on a folder appears. Also, when I tried re-installing Leopard it appeared not to be able to see my hard drive. I googled these symptons and it seems that this might be related to a hard drive failure.
Any idea what I should do? Something tells me that this is not something I'm going to be able to fix by myself. I hope Apple will fix this for free, given that its their new operating system that has messed up my computer. Also, I didn't have a back-up of my hard drive.
After a long wait for Leopard, what a horrible disappointment. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Joelsome

As a Mac user since '88- I'll remind you of the precautions you should take (or should've taken) before installing a new operating system (especially a brand new release with no public testing).
First and foremost, everything should be backed up. All of your personal info needs to be somewhere else, whether on another HD or even a DVD. If you don't back it up and your system goes bad, then all of the files under that system are pretty much gone.
Secondly, you should have at least one other operating system or boot disk you can fall back to. If the new install doesn't take on your computer and you just wrote over or upgraded your original OS and you don't have the backup disk, then you are screwed.
Third (and this is optional but my recommendation), you should equip yourself with some different disk utilities, such as disk warrior, norton, techtool (what I use) or something...even a freeware utility like onyx or something that can just clean caches or temp files. The most important thing you can do as a user to allow your system to run smoothly and prevent problems from occuring is keeping the system clean- but many third party cleaning tools allow you to make a boot disk in case of a problem like you are explaining here.
All of this to say, did you do any of this? You can't expect every OS install to go totally smoothly, especially an upgrade. If you don't wipe your disk clean before an install, there is always a possibility that something existing on your disk or a periphreal could conflict with the new OS. This is why you should take precautions as mentioned above.
As far as your accusation against Leopard, you don't have much evidence and should check some other things first before coming to that conclusion. First, I would take the install disk and boot from it, then run disk utility (it's up in the menu somewhere) and try to repair your hard disk, and check the smart status of the drive. If it says "failing" then your HD is bad and probably already was bad...If you repair it and it repairs it successfully, then try the install again and see what happens. If that doesn't work, and all of the other suggestions didn't work, then you may as well erase the disk completely and install Leopard. Only then will you know whether the Leopard install really is causing problems. If you can use your install disk on a clean HD and it runs fine, then your HD or existing information on your HD is to blame, and also the lack of precautions taken to make sure these things don't happen.
Apple has taken "use friendly" to a new level...but that doesn't mean there are no strings attached. You can't expect everything to run flawless on a computer, since a lot of the way it runs is dependent on the user and what you do with it (continuous internet downloading, tons of failed installations and orphaned files, etc.).
I always look at a computer like a house...If you don't clean up after yourself, take care of it and make it look nice, or fix things when they break, then you risk other things getting broken or even the entire house being ruined. For example, you shouldn't leave your house while leaving the fireplace or oven on. You should have your furnace checked on every so often and you should make sure you don't overload any circuits with too much electricity, or your house could burn down. If you don't fix the roof when the shingles go bad, you could get water damage. It may sound like a lame analogy, but it helps me to keep my computer clean.
My computer is a G4 from 2000. 7 years old coming up on 8...it's been through 3 operating systems and updates within all of those, and I'm still running on the same HD. If you take care of your stuff, clean out your files and caches and don't download random things all of the time, and take the precautions I mentioned above, then your machine will last a long time and will run great.

  • Hard Drive not supported?

    Im using an ibook g3 os x 10.4.11 700mhz ppc 640mb ram
When i connect my hard drive i get an error message that says it isnt supported. formatting this hard drive is out of the question. it has 2 years of photographic work on it, so no partitioning, erasing, or formatting. It has worked on the mac previously, and all of a sudden it doesnt? The HD was originally formatted for my imac on the leopard platform (os x journaled) and has worked on any computer i've ever plugged it into. this ibook has been a horrible disappointment thus far.
what can i do to make some, if any use of this thing. i need my hard drive to connect, otherwise i just have an overly expensive internet browser i guess.

Hi joshphoto, and a warm welcome to the forums!
It has worked on the mac previously, and all of a sudden it doesnt?
Are you saying it worked on THIS Mac, or another Mac? Was it Partitioned GUID on an IntelMac perhaps?
Do you have another Mac, one with Leopard on it to check out the HD with Disk Utility?

  • E72 - "Unable to Complete Command"

Dear all - I just bought a new e72. Waited months for it, and now i am horribly disappointed. It syncs okay with Microsoft Outlook, mail, calendar, contacts. But, everytime i try to compose a new message, or reply, or forward, the message "Unable to Complete Command" pops out.
Can somebody help me please? I am running Microsoft Exchange as mail server. Thanks.

    I have a SOLUTION!!!
Called NOKIA support and they were ZERO help. Only thing they could do for me was to reset my Nokia Messaging service from Expired to active again.
    So to summarise:
I had the problem that I could not send email (either create, reply or forward) from my E72 connected to my Google Apps Premier Account via Mail for Exchange. I wanted to have my calendar and contacts synchronised and PUSH email on the phone.
The other symptom of the problem was that I could only see my inbox and my deleted items folders when I tried to select a different folder. There were no sent items, outbox or drafts folder.
    The solution was:
reactivate my Nokia Messaging service online - this had expired
check the settings on your Nokia Messaging service to make sure you have set-up the email account you would like to have push email for
create a new mail account using Mail for Exchange on the phone. Use the settings as specified by Google, i.e. the server is m.google.com with your username, password etc.- make sure you select that you want to sync calendar and contacts via MfE
switch OFF the email synchronisation with MfE by going to the settings while in the email inbox, selecting settings and disable the email synchronisation
create a new email account using the Gmail option in email setup. This will set up an IMAP account that will connect using Nokia Messaging and deliver push email. The most important thing is that this will create another email inbox THAT WORKS!
Now I have push email from the IMAP/Nokia Messaging service and sync for calendar and contacts from the MfE service. A little clumsy, but it works and thats the main thing!
    Enjoy!
