Invalid icd file with Basler Spring Camera

Basic Problem
I am trying to run my Basler camera (Basler spL8192-70km) with the icd file provided on the NI website (http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nipc.product?pid=11078&asid=1102). When load this camera file through the NI Camera File Generator, I get the error:
"This camera file is not a digital camera file, or it is damaged. A new digital camera file will be created."
Why am I experiencing this problem?
Additional Details
I am placing this file in the default location for icd files. I have been able to run this camera with another camera file, but the dimensions and settings of this camera file are different.
I know that I can create my own camera file with the NI Camera File Generator, but I would like to see if I can get this icd file to run since all the parameters will be set correctly. I tried to search for the error message, but did not have any success.
Software/hardware specs: Windows 7 64-bit, LabVIEW 2010, IMAQ 4.6.4, NI 1429 frame grabber
Thanks,
Kristen

Hi Kristen,
The reason why you are seeing that prompt when trying to load the camera file you linked with NI Camera File Generator is that camera files are frame grabber specific. The linked camera file (.icd file) is for the NI-1433 frame grabber only and will not work without modification on the 1429. It may be worth contacting Basler to see if they have a camera file for the NI-1429 or we can create a camera file (based off of the 1433 camera file) for the NI-1429 specifically.

Have you used Nikon Transfer on those files? Early versions are known to corrupt files so that ACR can't read them. Nikon has since fixed the bug so new versions are safe.

  • Opening iPhoto 8 JPG file with Photoshop CS3 Camera Raw editor

I have all my photos stored in my iPhoto 8 library. I have both RAW (CR2) and JPG images. iPhoto 8 opens the CR2 images with Photoshop Raw editor, but I want to use iPhoto to open JPG images with the Photoshop Raw editor using Camera Raw.
How do I do this without having to export JPG images and opening from Photoshop?
    Thanks!
    SP

    SP:
If you're trying to use the RAW editor on a jpg it can't be done. It will only work on the RAW file. If you are wanting to edit the RAW file from within iPHoto with CS3 then set CS3 to be the editor of choice in iPhoto's general preferences. Next go to the Advanced iPhoto preference pane and select the option "User RAW when using external editor". That will open the RAW file with Photoshop's raw editor. When you finish you MUST save the new file to the Desktop and import as a new file.
For some general info on using Photoshop with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Unable to open RAW files with Photoshop CS6 - Camera Raw

    Hi all,
I'm trying to open .CR2 files from a Canon 450D on Photoshop CS6 as well as with Lightroom 4 but it doesn't work.
I've updated the Adobe Camera Raw to its latest edition (8.8), but anyway, when I try to open them it appears the message below: It basically says that photoshop is not able to open the file, make sure that you have installed the latest edition of Camera Raw and to visit the link for further info...
After looking for solutions on Internet, I've also tried to convert the RAW files into DNG, but Adobe DNG converter says that the folder does not contain any RAW file, though they are all .CR2 files...
I've tried several times in many ways... Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Benjamin,
You were right. It was the camera's provided software transfer system. I've copied them directly from the (same) card to the desktop and works.
    Many many thanks! Cheers

  • When Building an Application, which .icd file gets used on the deployment machine?

    Hello all,
I am building an application that needs to support multiple configurations for multiple cameras. I currently have a development machine with everything you would expect to be installed, and a deployment machine that does not have LabVIEW installed, but does have LabVIEW run-time, appropriate drivers and MAX.
My question is: When I build an application, I would like to be able to give a particular end user their own .icd file which the built application will recognize on their own machine. Then the .icd parameters can be tailored to their application. Is this possible?
I had hoped that this would just be the case, however when I compiled an application and tried to run it on the deployment machine it was obvious that the built application retained the .icd settings on the development machine and ignored the .icd settings on the deployment machine. Perhaps it has something to do with how I am compiling? Any additional info would be awesome.
    Thanks everyone for your time!

    Cole,
The easiest thing to do would be to manually replace the default .icd files with your configured .icd files at the directories specified in the following knowledge base.
Where Do I Place My Camera File Once I Download It?
LabVIEW won't copy the .icd configuration automatically because it is a configuration file for the IMAQ driver which is platform independent.  Another option would be to create VI that runs at installation or application run time that programmatically configures the .icd file.  You can add the .icd file to your project and copy the attributes to the camera file that exists on the deployed machine or replace it entirely.

  • PCIe-1429 camera files for work with Basler spL4096-70km line camera

Hi, please help with configuring my frame grabber.
Can I find camera files for PCIe-1429, working with Basler spL4096-70km line camera ?
now generating it with NI Camera File Generator, but when checking image with MAX -
getting error if configuring with 4096 pixels,
no error if with 2048, but! I want to get the full resolution (camera
has 2 segments of 2048 pixels, 12 bit pixel depth).
Settings snip attached - please help - what is wrong? (I'm new here )

    Hi Bruce,
This is Amitai from National Instruments Israel,
Allow me to enter this conversation.
Since you have a similar camera and working, I will be happy to get advises from you in order to help Sveta.
I have contacted Sveta today, and used remote desktop connection to try your suggestion and others.
We have used the Basler Vision Technologies spL4096-70km camera file -
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nipc.product?pid=11075&asid=1102
and we have changed the "InterfaceInfo" manualy in the text file, and reciceved the error : #0xBFF60056 Requested attribute is invalid.
We then followed this KB - http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/9757373FEE86D64B862573CA004FD752?OpenDocument
and edited the "Supported Image Acquisition Devices" to PCIe-1429.
    See cameraSettings.jpg file attached.
You can also see in the file, that the "PCIe-1429 Full configuration Camera Link" is grayed out.
I am wondering why  ... is it because this is the only frame grabber that is connected to the PC ? or is it because there is some issue with this frame grabber and this camera attributes ?
Following your advise earlier in the post, we chose the "2 tap interlaced vertically" Orientation.
We had success when setting smaller Acquisition windows (for example 800x1024 or 512x2 see jpeg attachments) and when we tried to reach the camera attributes 4096x2 (http://www.baslerweb.com/products/sprint.html?model=253) we got an acquisition timeout notification.
    see time-out.jpg attached.
    The NI-PCI-1433/5 has a 850 MB/s of bandwidth while the NI-PCIe-1429 has a 680 MB/s of bandwidth.
Sampling 2x4096 (which is the camera attribute that Sveta is trying to achieve) at 12-bit per pixel and with 55 fps equals 680MB/s.
Do you think the bandwidth difference can be the issue ?

  • Using pulnix tm-1320-15 lvds camera with pci-1422 lvds and ni's icd file

The camera provider give me a custom-made-cable.
Its pinout configuration is based on the ni's wiring diagram. (not opened)
But because of the problem of power supplying, the serial communication pins cannot be used.
With the icd file for tm-1320-15 in this site, I cannot get an image, but only the error messages of "IMG_ERR_TIMO" and dma error.
So I've tried some solutions suggested in this forum such as acquisition image reducing(the result is noisy one) and moving the 1422 closer to the cpu board. But all failed with that message.
I doubt that there must be an only one setting for tm-1320-15 camera and camera configuration in MAX 2.0 in case of "serial disabled", or the icd file is not
    proven in lvds version.
(Is "OnBoardClock(20)" right? the camera works at 25MHz according to its manual. )
Is there anyone succeeded in this combination?
(Thank you for reading my poor english. T.T )

    My problem is solved now.
But I don't know what is the exact solution.
The camera & cable provider and me tried as below.
    try-1. connecting tm-1320-15 and 1422 with serial-enabled cable
    try-2. changing 'OnBoardClock(20)' to 'OnBoardClock(25)'
With only 'try-1 ', it failed. but additional 'try-2' we could snap and grab the camera image.
And now, I can get images without serial-enabled cable, regardless of OnBoardClock speed.
I think the camera has been initialized with max's parameters(same as icd file) when the serial commnunication had enabled for the first time.
(I'll verify this assumption with new tm-1320-15 later.)
    Thank you.
Tip : If tm-1320-15 and 1422 makes error because of parameter mismatching, reset the tm-1320-15's power.

  • Drop frame rate when start saving avi file with GigE basler camera

    Hello all,
I use 2 Ace basler GigE cameras at 60 fps to capture animal locomotion. I experience randomly this kind of problem. When I start to record by a start/stop button and save the videos in the hard-disk sometime the frame rate drop to 20-14 fps and a skip 2 or 3 frame. After that the frame rate became stable to 60 fps.
These are the overall settings and spec of the program:
    - I use a producer/consumer loop (I never experienced a filling of the queue even when the drop frame rate occur)
    - I fixed the bandwidth of the Intel 100 GigE card to 500 for each camera
    - size of packet sent = 8000
    - firewall disabled
    - vi execution in highest mode
I observed that the dropping of the frame rate occur when the vi run for a while without interaction with the operator (the operator set others parameters in another computer, so the vi only acquire the videos without saving them)
    I have attached the vi
    Thank you for your help

GRAB 2 CAM SAVE AVI TTL SEND C-P LOOP 0.1.vi ‏151 KB

    Alex,
Does this drop in frame rate occur with both cameras or does it only occur with the "left" or "right" camera acquisition loops.  I think what is happening is that your producer loop is overwriting the images before they get written to the AVI.  In addition there may be some memory conflicts as queues are generally not recommended for IMAQ Images.  Here is an explanation stating that instead of enqueuing an Image Object you are actually enqueuing a memory location to an image.   This means that when you produce a new image it is writing to the same memory location you are trying to read from when you write the frame to AVI.  This forum offers a possible workaround.

  • .icd file needed for Pulnix TMC-7DSP camera

I am using Pulnix TMC-7DSP camera with composite video and I am getting constant problems acquiring images. Errors are: "invalid colorburst" or "unstable blanking reference". I found some article that suggested that these values are accessible in Color Advanced tab and can be changed. I tried playing with them but I have no idea what it should be and possibilities are endless. Even if I get it pretty close and number of errors goes down it only stays down for a while. Is it the camera or do I need a very specific icd file?
    Thanks.

We have several of the TMC-7DSP cameras here that we use mostly for training. Most of the cameras work fine, however a couple of them give random acquisition errors like you are seeing. There is no special camera file that I know of for this camera. You might want to contact Pulnix and see if there is anything unusual about the composite output on this camera. They might have a better idea about what analog settings would fit their signal best.
I have also used the RGB ouputs on this camera with no problems.

    (Windows7, Labview 13, NI PCIe 1429).

Have you tried using the camera file anyways? The framegrabber shouldn't make a difference, the camera file is just a way for the driver to know the attributes associated with the camera.

  • Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

That is an issue for the developer of that Download Helper.

  • Multiclip on FCP 7 with timecode: multiple files for the same camera have different Angle

    I have FCStudio 7 with OS 10.6.8
I just filmed a concert with 6 cameras (Sony XDCAM).  They are all timecode sync'd.
For various reasons there are multiple vid files for each camera (i.e. 172_003 thru 172_006 for camera 1).
I imported into FCP 7 using SonyXDCAM plug in with no problems.  Each camera file group was given its camera number as the Reel Name (i.e. Camera 1) and that camera's number as its Angle Name (i.e. 1).
Now when I try and create a multiclip using all six cameras, instead of keeping all the files for a specific camera under a single angle name it treats each file as its own camera angle.  It treats each file as an individual camera instead of having the files flow as a single clip from a single camera based on their timecode.  In viewer I have 8 different angles for a single camera (because of 8 files).  In the make media window for multiclip, the Angle Name is different for each clip but its position is still aligned to its timecode.
I worked the same project last year and the multiple files for each camera lined up fine, based on its timecode value and camera/reel name.  I can't see what has changed.
I need each camera's files to sync under that camera Angle Name, and for the files to play in the same angle spot in viewer.
All advice welcomed as I'm in a major time crunch to complete the job.
    Thanks.

Well why not just prebuild each angle in its own sequence with sequence timecode matching the source timecode?  Export with current settings and import these files back into fcp and then create your multiclip.
