Invalid Number Using 'IN' Clause

Hi,
I use the following select statement to populate a report.
<p>
SELECT cpnidd, ...
FROM pdrcpn, pdrcpnsts
WHERE pdrcpnsts.cpnref1=pdrcpn.cpnref
AND pdrcpn.bizidd1 IN (SELECT PKG_APEX.GetUserBizIds(:APP_USER) from dual)
<p>
In the <b>IN</b> clause I use a call to a function to return a list of comma seperated numbers. This only works if a single number is returned, if more than one number is returned (eg. 23,34) I get the following error:
<p>
report error:
ORA-01722: invalid number
<p>
Am stumped as to why this is happening or how I can fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
<p>
Cheers
<p>
Simon

'bizidd1' is a number so SQL is expecting a list of numbers separated by comas. What '(SELECT PKG_APEX.GetUserBizIds(:APP_USER) from dual)' returns is one text string. So if it returns '1,2,3,4' your SELECT will execute the following:
SELECT cpnidd, ...
  FROM pdrcpn, pdrcpnsts
WHERE pdrcpnsts.cpnref1=pdrcpn.cpnref
  AND pdrcpn.bizidd1 IN <B>'1,2,3,4'</B>Where what you want to execute is really:
SELECT cpnidd, ...
  FROM pdrcpn, pdrcpnsts
WHERE pdrcpnsts.cpnref1=pdrcpn.cpnref
  AND pdrcpn.bizidd1 IN <B>(1,2,3,4)</B>So how to get it to work. Whatever table PKG_APEX.GetUserBizIds retrieves it values from (say YOUR_TABLE) change your SELECT to be something like:
SELECT cpnidd, ...
  FROM pdrcpn, pdrcpnsts
WHERE pdrcpnsts.cpnref1=pdrcpn.cpnref
  AND pdrcpn.bizidd1 IN <B>(SELECT your_column FROM your_table WHERE id = :APP_USER)</B>If you are using the SELECT statement for a report region, you could change your region to a PL/SQL function that returns the SELECT statement like:
DECLARE
  v_sql VARCHAR2(4000);  -- bad to hardcode limits
BEGIN
  v_sql := 'SELECT cpnidd, ... '||
           '  FROM pdrcpn, pdrcpnsts '||
           ' WHERE pdrcpnsts.cpnref1=pdrcpn.cpnref '||
           '  AND pdrcpn.bizidd1 IN ('||
           REPLACE (PKG_APEX.GetUserBizIds(:APP_USER)||' )';
  RETURN(v_sql);
END;in a PL/SQL variable and

  • Classic ASP - "ORA-01722: invalid number" using OraOLEDB.Oracle driver

    I am working on doing some maintenance updates to a Classic ASP website, and I need to be able to run an insert/update statement for putting values into a lookup table. I am currently running into an "ORA-01722: invalid number" error when trying to use ADO and bind variables for my insert statement.
    Below is an example of a table that I am having problems with:
    CREATE TABLE "MATMGR"."TEST_SWING_TABLE"
    (     "TABLE1_ID" NUMBER(4,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "TABLE2_ID" NUMBER(4,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,

    PCTINCREASE 0 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1 BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT)
    TABLESPACE "USERS" ;
    Here is some snippet code of the basic functionality I am trying to get to work:
    ''START CODE''
    Dim connDb, cmdDoseInsert
    Set connDb = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    connDb.CursorLocation = adUseClient ' Setup to return RecordSet
    connDb.ConnectionString = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source={host};User ID={user id};Password={password}"
    connDb.Open()
    Set cmdDoseInsert = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.command")
    Set cmdDoseInsert.ActiveConnection = connDb
    cmdDoseInsert.CommandType = adCmdText
    cmdDoseInsert.NamedParameters = true ' Set the command object to use named parameters
    cmdDoseInsert.Prepared = true
    cmdDoseInsert.CommandTimeout = 0
    cmdDoseInsert.CommandText = "INSERT INTO TEST_SWING_TABLE (TABLE1_ID, TABLE2_ID) VALUES (:P_TABLE1_ID, :P_TABLE2_ID)"
    cmdDoseInsert.Prepared = true
    cmdDoseInsert.Parameters.Append cmdDoseInsert.CreateParameter("P_TABLE1_ID", adNumeric, adParamInput)
    cmdDoseInsert.Parameters.Append cmdDoseInsert.CreateParameter("P_TABLE2_ID", adNumeric, adParamInput)
    '... START: While Looping
         cmdDoseInsert.Parameters(0).Value = {some numeric value}
         cmdDoseInsert.Parameters(1).Value = {some numeric value}
         cmdDoseInsert.Execute
    '... END: Looping
    ''END CODE''
    What I have been able to find out so far is that there is some type of issue with numeric values getting translated right when sending two and retrieving from Oracle in ASP. So, does anyone have any thoughts on how to resolve this as I would like to use parameterized SQL to improve application performance?
    I am connecting to a developmental server running Oracle 9.2

    Ok, in my slightly larger example I found out that for what ever reason my named parameters are not being enforced, and so I had to make sure that the parameters were in the same order as they appeared in the SQL. To be on the save side, I did this when they were added as well as when I was assigning values to them.
    Can anyone tell me if this is an Oracle issue or a ASP issue?

  • ORA-01722: invalid number caused with SQL using bind variable

    Hi,
    Im am hoping that someone can help me resolve a problem thats only just services and is being experienced on quite a few clients.
    our application uses C++ exes and makes OCI calls to the database.
    what has happened in the last week or so, there has been quite a few invalid number errors being received on a prod server but strangly enough we cannot reproduct the error on our UAT system.
    The sql is using bind variables and the information in the trace file shows that a number is being used for the bind variable, here is an extract from one trace file:
    for some schemas, the bind variable value is some currupted value, i think:
    oacdty=01 mxl=32(21) mxlc=00 mal=00 scl=00 pre=00
    oacflg=03 fl2=1206001 frm=01 csi=178 siz=32 off=0
    kxsbbbfp=9a8d62b8 bln=32 avl=03 flg=05
    value="Â*d"
    but on another schema, the value used is:
    Bind#0
    oacdty=01 mxl=32(32) mxlc=00 mal=00 scl=00 pre=00
    oacflg=03 fl2=1206001 frm=01 csi=178 siz=32 off=0
    kxsbbbfp=c5f92718 bln=32 avl=04 flg=05
    value="2101"
    however both produce invalid number errors.
    I am relatively inexperienced as a DBA so would appreciate as much help as i can get.

    Could you post your sql statement that is being run.
    Also post the query plan from your uat system and the one from your production system (They are likely to be different)
    You can export the stats from your production system and run them in your uat system. If you do this, then the execution plans should be the same on both systems(dbms_stats) and if you have the same data you should run into the same problem on uat as in production.
    The root cause of this type of problem is having a column in a table which holds values which are of different datatypes. Typically there is a condition in the where clause which indicates that for example only numeric columns should be retrieved from the column which holds multiple data types. However since the optimizer is free to rewrite the query any way it sees fit, (It does not necessarily execute in the order the sql statement is written) it does not filter this data first, and therefore you hit non-numeric data and run into the invalid number error.
    You can use little techniques like using an inline view with rownum in the column list, to perform the first filter. This ensures that the inline view is executed on its own, rather than being merged (materialized) with the rest of the query.
    A quick temporary solution is to use a comparison like to_char(column_name) = variable
    Make sure your comparisons are correct and it doesn't negatively impact on performance of the query

  • Using apex item for list of number for 'IN' clause

    Greetings,
    I have a computation that looks like this:
    select count(mr.mr_id)
    from ds_moriver mr
    where mr.approved = 0 OR mr.approved IS NULL
    and mr.mr_id NOT IN (:P62_MRID)
    I am looking to enter numbers in the NOT IN clause like '123,234,...'
    I have a text field item (P62_MRID) where the user can enter IDs for the NOT IN clause.  So for example, 13578,182.  If the user enters one number it works fine.  If the user enters 2 numbers with a comma (13578,182) then I get this error when the computation is run:
    ORA-01722: invalid number
    So substituting 13578,182 for P62_MRID the SQL statement should compute as:
    select count(mr.mr_id)
    from ds_moriver mr
    where mr.approved = 0 OR mr.approved IS NULL
    and mr.mr_id NOT IN (13578,182)
    Why am I getting the error, 'ORA-01722: invalid number'?
    Thanks in advance!
    John

    Glad to help. Don't know how long you've been using APEX, but thought I'd caution you against "going wild" with the item substitution syntax. In general, if you can do it with bind variable syntax, that's better. The use of item substitution syntax can contribute to SQL injection attacks. But, if you have suitable control over the contents of the items being substituted, the risk is mitigated. Just don't create an APEX process like this:
    begin
       &P10_TEXT_DIRECTLY_FROM_USER.
    end;
    That'll get you into trouble.

    Did you ever get resolution to this problem?
    My coworker has the identical issue, including the number (+1 (1)(216)116-11) in the error reply.

  • I have a new iPhone 5 and receive the following message when texting some people within my contacts.  Message sent using invalid number of digits please resend using 10 digit number or valid short code Msg:2114

    I have a new iPhone 5 and receive the following message when texting some people within my contacts.  Message sent using invalid number of digits please resend using 10 digit number or valid short code Msg:2114. Online I found a discussion that stated i needed to delete contact and re-add. I have done that to no avail. Any ideas?

    I had the same issue with the iPhone 6 and tried everything!  I now understand that at some point I stored a number for a contact without including the area code and sent a text message.  So, to correct the issue, you must literally "erase" all references to the contact, not just the number.  Deleting the contact and entering a new one is not enough because the iPhone stores references to that number in multiple places.  The steps below worked and are very simple:
    1) On the contact screen, delete everything stored for that number.  You can't just edit the contact to fix the problem, so write down or record the info somewhere before you complete this step.  Choose edit and then select DELETE to eliminate the entire contact which means home, work, cell, email address, etc.
    2) Delete the entire string of messages you sent to that number.  That's every single message...
    3) Now delete the entire string of invalid 2114 messages you received after your text(s) failed.
    4) Finaly, remove the contact from FAVORITES if you saved it that way.
    5) To validate that all this worked, simply go to the keypad or contact screen and enter the number associated with the contact to verify successful removal.  I used the keypad and dialed to confirm.  If the contact number still shows up, you need to go back and recheck your steps.  Trust me, I had to do this a few times.
    Several posts suggested that you should  reset and turn off your phone.  After following these steps, it was not necessary for me to reset or turn off my device.
    is there a much faster way to achieve the same results?  Probably, but this was safe for an iPhone novice and may help you avoid inadvertently deleting other contacts or replacing factory settings that you need.

    It it comes as a text convert it to date TO_DATE('2011/12/23','YYYY/MM/DD') to use in comparison operators like =, != , > , < etc. Comparison operators used taking date as literal will give you wrong result.
    Better to do it right even it takes huge effort.

    I'm using oracle 11g.Here's one way:
    SELECT       CASE
               WHEN  NVL (test_column, '0') = '0'
               THEN  0
               ELSE  1
           END          AS nre_score
    ,       ...          -- you must want other columns, too
    FROM       national_rare_ecosystems
    ;Since you don't really care about the numeric value, don't use NUMBERs anywhere; stick with VARCHAR2s, such as '0'.
    I hope this answers your question.
    If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only), and also post the results you want from that data.
    Point out where the query above is getting the wrong results, and explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from the sample data in those palces.

  • "Invalid number" error using Interactive Report search  on collection

    hi -- I have several interactive reports based on collections. In the IR reqion query definition,
    I cast the collection values as needed (number, date, etc). Everything's been working great.
    In both development and production, I can use the search feature of interactive reports
    and it finds rows containing the text I type in (as well as everything else working fine...)
    I just imported a new version of an application into our production database. Now, when I use the
    interactive report search, I always get "invalid number". This even happens on interactive reports
    that still work in the previous version of the production application... and these IRS
    have not been modified at all.
    If I create a filter and search for "elevation" in a string column, the filter works. If I create a filter
    searching for "elevation" in a number column, I get "invalid number". (In the development
    environment, I can do the latter -- it just doesn't find any rows.)
    Clearly it's choking on the types of the columns in the IR... but why now and not before, and why
    in the production database but not the development DB? Both are running 4.0.1.00.03.
    This is a pretty major loss of functionality... and it comes at a really bad time... Help?!

    It's not tons of stuff, so here it is.

  • Pipelined function with Union clause(Invalid Number(ORA-01722) error )

    Hi,
    I have a pipelined function.
    I am fetching the data with the use of a REF cursor.
    The query has two part: query1 and query2
    when I am opeing the cursor with query1 UNION query2,it is giving me Invalid Number(ORA-01722) error.
    but when I open the cursor separately for query1 and query2,I am getting the resultset for each of the query.
    query1 and query2 are running fine with UNION in the sql editor.
    But,when I put them into two variables (var1 :='query1' and var2:='query2' and try to open the cursor with var1 UNION var2 , it's giving me the error.
    But when I put query2 as 'Select ..... from dual' and then try to open the cursor for query1 UNION query2,
    then getting the result of query1 and one extra row for query2(dual).
    The FROM table set is same for query1 and query2..
    can anyone please help me , why this Invalid Number(ORA-01722) error is coming.

    How can this be fixed? Most of my numbers are saved as 7 digit

    So I THINK I've figured this out. Hopefully. I was getting the same problem when I was trying to text my boss and my dad. I went back to try to delete the contact and try again and I noticed that I had the little phone icon next to their numbers and not the messaging text bubble. But I'd also left their type of phone as "home" in the drop down menu. I edited that to mobile and boom, got the text messaging bubble. Tried texting them both, I could now send the message.
    I think if the number is set to home the phone assumes it's a landline and doesn't even try to send. I think the people who have had success deleting and re-inserting the contact edited that piece of information without realizing it.
    I really hope this solves your problem!

  • Error Invalid Number, re-send using a 10 digit number when texting a certain number, but when I put the area code in it still sends to the 7 digit number

    About a month ago I added a friends number without the area code. I was in an area that I couldn't send texts from.  Two days ago he texted me and I tried to reply, but when I did I got the error message "Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code."
    So, I put in the area code in front of the number and when I sent it, the phone dropped the area code and just sent it to the 7 digit number.  I went ahead and deleted all of his contact information and text messages to him and re-entered the with the area code and saved him as a new contact.  I tried to text the number and it still sent it to only the 7 digit number!!!
    I have tried everything there is to try, but there seems to be a part of the phone that is remembering this number even after I've deleted it and everything associated with it.
    Does anybody have a solution for this??  I have called Apple and they told me they have never heard of this problem before.

    The fix for this problem is easy and is set out here: http://edctips.blogspot.com/2014/09/fixing-iphone-texting-problem.html

  • Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code

    Hey, so my friend got a Galaxy s6 edge yesterday and gave me his new number. When I tried texting it I received this immediately after:
    Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code. Hey
    I can receive messages from this number as well as calls. I've become aggravated and am not sure what to do. Please help, thanks!

    Hi there
    I’d be happy to help with this messaging error! This will be due to the device storing the number incorrectly. Please do the following to resolve the issue:
    Delete texts from both old number and new
    Delete any call logs including these numbers
    Delete old number from contacts
    Delete new number from contacts
    Restart device
    Send text to the new number directly (do not save as contact)
    Once the text sends successfully, you can then save as a new contact
    I hope this helps!
