Invisible Text Fields/Print Button error

Ok, so I'm creating a blank form for users to input data fields and then print them out on a pre-made paper form. I started out using Adobe Designer 7.0.
While I was using 7.0, I made all of the Text Fields, and spent hours lining them up to print out correctly in their corresponding boxes on the pre-made paper form that we load into the printer. (Already tried scanning the form and creating a form that way, but the scanner is weird and scales everything incorrectly.)
I upgraded to Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES today so that I could make Text visible on the form, but not visible when it prints, so that I can label each Text Field, otherwise it's just a blank template with random Text Fields all over.
Well, after upgrading, I created the Texts prompts above each Text Field and I selected Visible (screen-only) for each one of them, hoping that once I printed the form out, those texts prompts won't print out on the pre-made paper form. But, to my dismay, they printed out even though I selected the option for them to NOT print out.
So I was doing some reading and decided to add a "print button" to my form. I added the print button. Made it visible (screen-only). Printed out another form, and BAM. All of the hours I spent lining up those Text Fields went to waste because all of a sudden my Text Fields are all over the paper. I immediately removed the print button, assuming that was the problem, but for some reason my text fields are still all over the paper.
I don't want to spend the hours and hours I spent lining them up again. It just took too long. Does anyone know what happened here? If so, how do I fix it?
Also, how do I make it so that the Text prompts I created do NOT print when I print out the form?
I'm sure this is all an easy fix for you experienced ones. I'm a noob... obviously...

Thank you for the help, but I'm still not really sure what I should be doing here. I went to form properties, but didn't see any kind of settings that would fix what I'm having problems with. I'm using Adobe Designer ES 8.2.1 now, but for some reason when I make my text Visible (screen-only), it still prints out when I click print. This shouldn't happen and I can't figure out what's wrong. I've reasearched all I can, but can not find a solution.

  • Safari 3.0.4 (523.12) weird text field & delete button behavior

    Just installed the software update (10.4.11), and now have a weird problem with Safari 3.0.4 (523.12).
    When entering text into a text field _on a web page_ (i.e. NOT the address bar or the built-in Google search field), the screen scrolls when the space bar is pressed (oddly, a space IS entered into the text field).
    Also, once a few pages have been visited, hitting the delete key makes the browser act as if the "back" button had been pressed!
    What gives?
    I tried disabling plug-ins (and restarting Safari) in case one of them was causing a conflict, but it didn't help. I also repaired permissions with Disk Utility. For clarity, I hadn't tried rebooting before launching Safari.
    Is it possible to revert back to a previous version?

    Hi,
    Some other things to try:
    - delete the Safari prefs file at /Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    - try resetting Safari via the Safari menu
    - a test you can do to help narrow down things is to try Safari in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+\] to create a test one (and \[-\] to remove it if needed)

  • LOV from text field vs. button

    I have an LOV that works upon navigation to a text field. It works great. I now want to base it off a button instead. Can I do this, but keep it based on the data from the text field even though it is the button launching it?
    Also, can I elimate or disable the Find button in the lOV? How do I do this?

    I got it working now.
    used the following code:
    LOV lov = new LOV();
    void jButton1_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
    lov.setDataItemName("infobus:/oracle/jstut/lOVRowSetlkupquad");
    lov.setRestrictedQuery("infobus:/oracle/jstut/rowSetlkupquad/QuadLong", null);
    lov.setTitle("Title of window");
    lov.setSize(550, 300);
    lov.show();
    ** note that lOVRowSetlkupquad is the lovrowset and not the lov.
    ** and note "rowSetlkupquad/QuadLong"
    is the object in the rowset it is based on.
    Still does anyone know how to eliminate the find button in the LOV box?

    There are three steps you have to make in order to be ablr to connect to a system from VC:
    1. Define system.
    2. Define alias.
    3. Define user mapping (for the user that connects from VC to the portal)
    please check step 3.

  • How to set  a  focus to a text field when  button is clicked

    [b]in sun stdio creator  setting  a focus is not possible is it a bug
    if  we use  java script
    <ui: button  onClick="focuss(form1:text1)"/>
    function focuss(text1){
        var text=text1;
        text.focus();
    the code is executed but  it is not  working  why[/b]

    Sorry, I didn't read carefully your question. My answer refered to client side only. You can set the focus programmatically with Body.setFocus(). In the appropriate action method or action listener call
    this.body1.setFocus("form1:textField1");
    or maybe
    this.body1.setFocus(this.textField1.getClientId());
    to avoid errors due to changing client ID or save the client ID of the TextField in a private member and call Body.setFocus() in prerender().

  • Bug? Text field & Button are still visible when solid-filled rectangle is placed on top of them

    Adobe Live Cycle 7.1
    It cannot work when i tried to make the text field and button invisible without JavaScript:
    1. Create a text field with any default value and button.
    2. Create a filled color rectangle.
    3. Set the rectangle on top of all objects (right click it and select "bring to front")
    4. View in Pdf.
    5. Result:
    Text field's caption and border are invisible (covered by rectangle) ,but the text field's raw value and the button are visible.
    Is this a bug?

    It's difficult to tell. I can see what you're trying to accomplish but it's possible that Acrobat is giving priority to fillable fields over static objects (such as the rectangle) regardless of z-order (i.e. "bring to front", "send to back"...).
    You can make objects invisible without having to write any script by selecting the objects which should be invisible and setting the Presence property, on the Object palette's Field tab, to
    Invisible or
    Hidden - Exclude from Layout. The former means the objects won't be visible but they will still be a factor in the way in which objects are placed on the form while the latter means they're totally hidden from the form.

  • Text in fields prints faintly, but everything else in the document prints fine

    I am using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional on a Mac. I am using a black and white laser printer.
    In my work, I fill out PDF forms prepared by the federal government.
    I can't modify the forms, because they are secure.
    Filled-in text fields print so faintly (i.e., too light, not dark) that they are hard to read when printed.  They don't look that great on the computer screen, either.
    The form itself prints out excellently: nice and dark; easy to read.
    Text entered using the typewriter tool prints out excellently, also.
    Acrobat does not seem to allow the font in the text fields to be changed. It is some kind of Courier, and it never changes.
    How can I get darker printouts from my text field entries?

    Yes, that is not the best font choice. It's Courier New and this is a common complaint with this font. That particular form is not secured, but it is Reader-enabled. It is an XFA form, so it can be modified with LiveCycle Designer, which unfortunately for you does not come with the Mac version of Acrobat. If you want to go to the trouble of modifying such forms, you could do so on a Windows machine that has Acrobat Pro/LiveCycle Designer installed.

  • Empty text field warning

    I want to have a book printed from Aperture 1.5.4, but when I press the 'Buy Book' button, a dialog pops up:
    "*Empty text field detected in book*
    The book you are about to order contains an empty text field.
    How do you wish to proceed? Cancel/Continue"
    That's all very nice, to give me a warning like that, but how on earth am I going to find one invisible text field in a 50-page book full of colour photos??
    Does anyone have a hint? How problematic is it to leave the text field in? Common sense dictates that an empty text field should not be visible in the printed book either, but knowing Apple's fickleness in book matters... can I be sure? I can generate and check the PDF of course, but I don't know if that's sufficient proof.
    Thanks!

    hi, prauz
    sounds like there is a text box (unfilled) and you haven't typed nor pasted text into it.
    it's not that the text field is invisible, it's there yet to be selected and filled in with your information. so it is visible. have another looksie at it, look for the default letters or "Title Information Here"...

  • Strange behavior of letters/characters in text fields

    I've created a form in Livecycle Designer ES2 for a government company.
    The form contains several pages with text fields, radio buttons and check boxes.
    Also javascripts to enhance the form.
    I've used their company font for static text and Verdana for the textfields.
    My customer uses Windows XP (SP3) and Adobe Reader 10.1.x on all of their computers.
    When they open the form and start typing text in the formfields something strange happens.
    It looks like that if the first key they hit on the keyboard, directly after opening the form, acts strange in the entire form.
    For example:
    If the hit a letter "a" as the first key, after opening the form.
    The letter "a" will be followed with one or several spaces through the entire form.
    Also some letters shows on top of each other.
    I've tested the form on several other Windows XP computers with Reader 10.1.x and the problem didn't show.
    The test where made on different locations and companies.
    The problem only seems to exist on all of the computers of my customer.
    Is there a known problem dat looks like this?
    Maybe a third application is cousing this problem, but i don't know what it can be.
    Anyone seen this behaviour before??
    I recently upgraded to ES4 and exported the form using ES4, but the error seems to stay.

    Experts,
    Thank you for your quick replies.
    Our environment...
    -JDeveveloper 11.1.1.5
    -WLS 10.3.5
    Browser is IE8 on WindowsXP and Windows7.
    As you mentioned, I don't think using popup in table is good either.
    Popup is reusable component and it should be shared in a page.
    My customer created a page fragment that has a icon button and popup to search items.
    When a user click the icon, popup opens and available options are displayed.
    It was designed initially to use outside table, but it's useful so they tried to use it in table.
    But what I am really confused is why each initially rendered pages contain different popup client id if it is located in table.
    Anyway I will tell my customer your suggestions and not to use popup in table.
    Thanks again,
    Atsushi

  • Auto populate blank text fields with n.a from a button or on print out.

    This seems straight forward but I cannot find an existing questions on this topic.
    I would like to add a form function that will fill any blank text fields with n.a. I do not want to use the default field value as I think it will cause confusion and cannot be applied for text fields formatted for dates. Is it possible to run a script that can do this? It would be OK if the action was triggered from a button or print activity after the rest of the form has been completed.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    The question is whether your form is used only for filling out on screen (and not as a level 0 form, being printed out and filled out manually).
    If so, why not make the default value of the concerned fields to be "n/a" (or whatever you want to name them). That would relieve you from any validating before printing.
    Otherwise, you could maintain a list of field names which should get the n/a value if empty. This list would be an array.
    Your code in the willPrint event (if you want to have it reliably) would then look like this:
    for (var i = 0 ; i < nafieldarray.length ; i++) {
    if (this.getField(nafieldarray[i]).value == this.getField(nafieldarray[i]).defaultValue) {
    this.getField(nafieldarray[i].value = "n/a") ;
    HTH.

  • How do I disable printing of my PDF if a text field isn't filled in?

    Hello all I'm currently trying to find a way to make the print button of my pdf not work if say a necessary textfield wasn't filled in?
    I take it that the standard validation scripts won't work?
    The very helpful fellow from a thread seemed pretty sure it couldn't be done.
    In short in order the print button to work the form must have certain textfields populated with content if the combo box next to them has a certain value selected.
    Say for example
    A text field by the name AIMCode_R1 has no content in it but it's related combobox "Loc_R1" has value 2 currently selected then before printing the pdf must validate that textfield "AIMCode_R1" has content and visversa if "AIMCode_R1" has content then "Loc_R1" must have  value 2,3 or 4 selected before the pdf will allow the user to print.

    In that case all the responses above are incorrect. You can write whatever conditions you want before calling the print command.
    Of course, the user will still be able to print the file using the built-in Print command, in which case you can use some of the ideas mentioned above, but the file will still print. One approach I like to use is to reset the form if some required fields are not filled-in, so the printed copy is blank, and then re-fill it afterwards, so the user can complete it.

  • Script needed to print complete contents in scrolling text field Acrobat Pro 9 (MAC)

    I've seen this question several times in my search but no real solution. My client wants a form with text fields that only show 1-2 lines when viewed on-screen but are scrollable so that the user can input a lot of text. I had no problem creating that. The problem occurs when I try to print the form. Only the visible lines of text print and not the entire contents of the field.
    Is there a Javascript that I can assign to a Print button in my form that can be assigned to the Mouse Down action that will make the entire field contents print? I even recreated the form in WORD so that when the user inputs text into the field, the contents of the form move down the page. My client didn't like that approach. I'm not a programmer and so I haven't been able to write my own script to handle the printing issue. I'm MAC based so using Livecycle isn't an option for me. Thanks!

    I'm using Acrobat Professional 9. I used to use Livecycle which was more flexible, but I no longer have a PC, only MAC and Adobe doesn't make Livecycle for the MAC.
    The client doesn't want larger fields unfortunately. They have questions that require 2 or 3 pages of information to be entered into a small text field but they don't want large fields. If they're reviewing the answers online, it's fine - they can just scroll through the text fields and read the answers but they don't want the completed text fields to expand unless the form is printed.
    I've already set up my text fields to be multi-line and scrollable so that the client can review all of the text in the field if they are looking at the saved PDF online. The problem I'm having is that I need the entire contents of the text field to be visible ONLY when printed out. They don't want larger fields to show in the form. The client was quite specific about it. The form is also going to be used infrequently, so collecting the data and storing it on a server isn't something they're particularly interested in. The information is also confidential, so they do not want me to be collecting and storing the data and sending it back to them in another format. The easiest option I could see was to create a script tied to a PRINT button that printed out the complete text field.
    Thanks!

  • Printing all text in a multi-line text field??  Can it be done?

    I was wondering if there is a way to print out a multi-line field and have all text entered print as well.  Currently, anytime someone enters more information in a multi-line text field on our form than is set to show without scrolling, when a PDF is created for printing from the results page, only the text that fits within the specified size prints.  You can scroll within the PDF and read it all, but I can't seem to figure out how to get all of the text to show and have that field resize accordingly on the printed copy.
    Is there a way?  Thanks.

    Is there an easy way to determine the character count that is visible in a given multi-line text field when designing the form, so if I want to allow 500 characters, the text box I create is large enough for 500 characters?  Obviously I can just do a trial and error process using a cut and paste of 500 characters and testing it, but is there an easier way?

  • Print just what is typed in the text field without printing the text fields

    Hello,
    I'm trying to print a form after I filled in the text fields, but would like it to print just what I typed in the field, not the text field and the color in the text field. I use CS3.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello Teddy and wellcome to the group!
    If you want to change fonts or other things then you might need to use the PrePrint method. What I normally do is select PrePrint from the "Show" section in the Script Editor (If you do not have it go to the toolbar at the top, Windows, and select Script Editor). After you select PrePrint you can now either type the name of the subform and field you want to change (or you can put your cursor in the Scripting Dialog box, hold CTRL and then select the field with your mouse) and then type in the JS to change the font. it is something like TextField1.fillcolor = "255, 255, 255"; (that changes the background fill to white). You can also replace fillcolor with font or border to change the color of the font or the border. I put a link to an Adobe website that goes over JS color changes below. You just need to add a PrePrint method for each field that you wish to remove the necessary highlighting on. Then once the user either hits a Print button that you have on the form or uses CTRL+P to print the form it will remove any highlighting.
    Now On the Text Field not printing itself that I am not sure what you are asking for. Are you asking for the caption not to print or for there not to be a box around the data that is entered? If you do not want to have a box surround the text field that is in the Object section of the field (see image below). You just need to select None if you just want the text. If you want to change that with JS I put another link below that has the code to change the border color to white and the user cannot see it. If you do not want the caption to print the only method is to delete the caption from the text field and replace it with static text that can be hidden, but I am assuming that is not what you are talking about (correct me if I am wrong though).
