Invoking BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA as a web service from CAF

I am new to BAPI world. Currently, we are building a composite application - a part of the application interacts with SAP R3 for creating materials and then getting a list of all created materials. We are using the following BAPIs: BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA, BAPI_MATERIAL_GETLIST, BAPI_MATERIAL_GETDETAIL.  All these BAPIs are exposed as web services. I have created an external service using wsdl file that corresponds to BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA.  I would like to create a new material by passing minimum possible parameters. I am setting the values in HEADDATA and MATERIALDESCRIPTION only. I am giving Y to basic_view and N to all other views in HEADDATA. The call succeeds apparently but when I try to retrieve it using BAPI_MATERIAL_GETLIST/GETDETAIL it fails to retrieve. My questions:
1. What is the best way to create a new material (basic view) by passing minimum parameters?
2. How to verify if the material is successfully created?
3. How does CLIENTDATA and CLIENTDATAX differ? There are similar 'X' appends in other places as well. Can anyone please provide any pointer/link about some more basic information on the following BAPIs: BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA, BAPI_MATERIAL_GETDETAIL, BAPI_MATERIAL_GETLIST.
Thanks.

Hi,
   3. To get more information about a BAPI, you can look at the function module documentation. Login to the R/3 system, start transaction SE37 and type in the name of the BAPI and select "Display". Once you see the source code, you'll see a button called "Function module document". Clicking on that will open up the help document for that BAPI.
   For eg., quoting from the docs for BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA, CLIENTDATA structure is used to transfer the general basic data on a material. CLIENTDATA X structure determines which fields in the assigned user data structure (CLIENTDATA) contain change-relevant information.
   2. When the BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA is executed, it should ideally contain the material number in the structure HEADDATA. Check if you are getting that. If you have it, then it should've been created. You can double check by starting transaction SE11 and display table MARA. Type in the material number that you received.
  1. All the parameters except HEADDATA is optional for the  BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA. So you can just choose to pass some of the fields of this structure and that should do it.

Satyajit.

  • Problem in invoking a secure weblogic web service from javaws client

    Hi all,
    the situation is this: there is a secure web service (Wssp1.2-2007-Wss1.1-X509-Basic256.xml policy) which is accessed by a stand-alone remote web service client (swing-enabled) which is initiated via java web start. You'll probably wondering why this is a special case. Let me elaborate...
    The first step was to develop the service and the client. This wasn't much of a trouble, since the documentation was very good apart from creating a ClientBSTCredentialProvider object at the client side. The documentation should explicitly state that the sixth argument, that of the server certificate, is required! In any case, the first step was a success and the invocation was encrypted and signed at the message level.
    The second step was to create a stand-alone remote client, without any local weblogic installation. That was a bit of a problem, since wlfullclient.jar or wseeclient.jar or weblogic.jar were not enough. I should note that the client was created via netbeans 7.0 and not with the help of weblogic clientgen. So, I had to make a verbose run from netbeans, in order to enumerate the jars which are accessed and gather them into the same directory. That was OK too. The standalone client works just fine.
    The third step is to simply (not so simply...) make a java web start version of the client. Since the previous step was a success (having all necessary jars in the same directory) this one should not be a problem. Well... that turned out to be a huge issue. What I get back as the error message (shown in the java web start console) is this:

    The two invocations (one using java and the other using javaws) should obviously have not differences at all since all resources (jars) are the same.
    I have tried all client jar combinations (with wlfullclient.jar, wseeclient.jar, weblogic.jar) and the result is the same. One additional piece of information is that when removing all security parameters (message level encryption and signing) from the web service the java web start client works just fine!!!
    This is not an issue of additional jars that somehow mess with weblogic jars, since the same error occurs even in the basic hello world web service.
    I wonder if someone has faced the same problem. I would really really appreciate any help. Thank you in advance and keep up the good work.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Hi Kal,
    since we're currently evaluating the software and haven't acquired a license, we cannot contact support.
    I only need to know if this is a solved bug or not. Does it have to do with the classloading process (I cannot think of anything else)?
    Thank you again very very much!
    Cheers,
    Paul.

  • Accessing BAPI web services from CAF External Services

    We have wsdl files that corresponds to BAPI calls.  Using CAF, we want to create an external service using those wsdl files and then create an application service which will be in turn used by web dynpro for developing our composites. We did the following steps:
    1. Created a new  Composite Application Service project
    2. Then right click on the External Services, select import, choose Web service.
    3. Select 'Local File System or URL' option. Copy the URL from the wsdl file and pasted the URL in the 'Browse' text field and click Next. Got an error in loading the web service.
    4. Removed the Proxy Server settings in Developer Studio but in vain. Tried all possible combinations with the URL also (such as with and without the wsdl key at the end of the URL and using the 'UDDI or URL' option under the Proxy Definition of the External Services Import and also with the Window => Preferences => Proxy settings).
    5. Since the above options failed, copied the wsdl files to the local drive and then choose that WSDL from the file system. Able to import.
    6. Created the application service and provided the custom code for the request and response.
    7. Registered the external service in the CAF browser -> Administrative tools -> External Service Configuration
    8. Tested the service through the Developer Studio.
    The error I get is: ERROR: IOError while working with the message. Check the nested exception: Connect Refused: connect:
    Any idea on what needs to be done to resolve it?

    authentication is required at design time to read the wsdl from bapis. did you provide username and password when importing the web service.
    you can always add the username and password to the url to see if you can successfully get to the wsdl. Like that http://<webas_abap_servername>:<portnumber>/sap/bc/soap/wsdl11?services=BAPI_PO_CREATE&sap-client=<clientnumber>&sap-user=<username>&sap-password=<password>

    Hi ,
    We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
    For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
    but sttill,after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
    &ldquo;Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message&rdquo;
    Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi James,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
    But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
    Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.

  • Problem invoking a web service from soa11g BPEL.

    Hi ,
    I am trying to invoke a web service from soa bpel 11g composite.
    We have the wsdl, wsdl URL of the web service along with the user name , password credentials.
    Initially w/o any WS policy attached and testing the composite, it fails with the below message

    *<bpelFault>*

    So I have gone back to the composite and added the WS policy (oracle/wss_username_token_client_policy) by Right clicking on web service -> Configure WS Policy -> Security -> oracle/wss_username_token_client_policy -> OK.
    After this I have added the following binding properties 'oracle.webservices.auth.username' , 'oracle.webservices.auth.password' with the respective values and deployed it again.
    Even then I face the same issue. I have looked into the EM console and found the HTTP username and password properties were blank for this Web service even though the WS policy was attached.
    Later I have tried editing the username pwd from the EM console, only to find out that the composite was now failing in the previous step (an ordinary db adapter with a select statement) even before it reaches the web service invocation.
    If I redeploy the composite, the http username and pwd properties in the EM console are erased and when i test it, it errors out at the web service invocation with the same issue again.
    Any pointers on how to solve this issue ??
    How can I figure out what is the security policy the web service is using ??
    Regards,
    Shiva Kiran

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me with this ??
    I guess I am not able to send the authorization credentials via the request to the web service invocation.
    Plz help ! This is a bit urgent..

  • How to access/invoke Web Service from BPM Process

    The following steps required to attach and invoke web service method from process:
    1) Add a module in the catalog for ex WebServiceMO
    2) Add WebService Catalog component demoWebService in WebServiceMO
    3) Put ur WSDL address in WSDL address field like "http://localhost:8080/test/test?wsdl"
    4) Click next to introspect the web service it will import required files and setting from the url to your project
    5) Now for invoking webservice just call the method for ex.
    @return as String[]
    getTestStringList(TestInterfaceService, out @return : @return)
    logMessage "web service calll result >>"+length(@return)+">>>"+@return[0]
    Here @ return is the return from webservice call.
    this way u can access web service from BPM process.

    I have a web service which does not return any value but when I introspect the web service, I have an out parameter to it.. Not sure why?
    For e.g.
    TestServiceListener.addTestNotes(TestNotes : testNotes, out TestNoteResponse : testNoteResponse);
    So here I see an out parameter, but my web-service has no out parameter...
    Any idea why is this happening?

  • Invoking a SAP web service from Dreamweaver MX

    I am trying to invoke a SAP web service from ColdFusion and it looks like ColdFusion does not even recognize the rfc generated wsdl file as a wsld file.  I have tried other wsdl url's outside my company and they work...so I know that web services at least work in ColdFusion.  Can anyone advise on this topic?
    Thanks!

    Paula,
    I suppose you're using CFINVOKE (http://www.activsoftware.com/code_samples/code.cfm/CodeID/44/ColdFusion/Invoking_SOAP_Web_Services_with_ColdFusion_MX_CFINVOKE_Tag) or are you using a third party tool like CFX_SOAP (http://www.activsoftware.com/products/productdetail.cfm/id/1015)?
    Are you working with WebAS 6.4 or 6.2?
    It works with web services created with WebAS 6.4, but you should generate proxy classes. Check Thomas' weblog (second part of it)->https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/1012. [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken]
    The WSDL generated by this method is more standard than the one generated when you just Remote enable an FM and look at the webservice browser.
    Th core of CF MX is Java and that engine is rather strict in standards.

    I am trying to invoke a soap-based web service deployed in a different OC4J container but on the same iAS middle tier install as the BPEL server. The deployment is successful. I am running 10.1.2 BPEL server.
    But invoking a process throws the following error.
    <remoteFault xmlns="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension">
    <part name="summary">
    <summary>when invoking locally the endpoint 'http://stadd53.us.oracle.com:7779/idm/ProvService/cps', ; nested exception is: ORABPEL-02052 Cannot lookup BPEL domain. The BPEL domain "ProvService" cannot be found; the domain may not have initialized properly. Please verify that the BPEL domain loader has a valid set of initialization properties in the application properties file.</summary>
    </part>
    <part name="detail">

    </part>
    </remoteFault>
    Any ideas on what the problem might be ?

    Sandor,
    Thanks. Your suggestion of turning off optSoapShortcut worked. So does that mean that by default remote web services cannot be invoked from BPEL process by SOAP - unless this configuration change is done ?

  • Deserialization Error while invoking web service from JDeveloper 10g

    When we tried to invoke a web service from JDeveloper version 10.1.3.4.0.4270, we got deserialization error.Here are the steps that we did to invoke the web service.
    1. Using WSDL URL, downloaded WSDL file and associated XSD files into local machine using wsa.jar utility.
    2. Using JDeveloper, created web service proxy project by referring the local WSDL file.Proxy got generated successfully.
    3. Secured the proxy using "secure proxy" option.
    4. Assigned all required values for parameters for web method.
    5. When tried to invoke the web service, got deserialization error.

    We think that the exact cause for the problem is as follows.
    1. If we check the XSD file corresponds to response object, for one of the element, the type is decimal
    <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="ParentValueSetId" nillable="true" type="xsd:decimal"/>
    2. In the SOAP response, this element is empty so during deserialization, the numer format exception occurred in LiteralSimpleTypeSerializer class.

  • Invoking a web service from jcd

    hi all,
    Is there any built-in class in CAPS5.1 for invoking a web servervice from jcd directly. Or is there any some other automation/mechanism to achieve the same, plz provide me any sample code avilable for the same.its very urgent for me.
    Thanks

    Hello rss,
    If you want to invoke a web service from a JCD you will have to build the SOAP message using JAX-RPC or AXIS and then programmatically creat an HTTP connection.
    Or you can leverage the HTTP(S) eWay and then you only have to build the SOAP message.
    Or use eInsight. You can import a WSDL into eInsight and eInsight will offer you a business process Activity to invoke the web service operations defined in the WSDL.

  • Issues in invoking a web service from a JAVA/BPEL client...

    We are trying to invoke a web service from a JAVA/BPEL client using org.apache.soap classes. But everytime we are running into issues of IllegalAccessError or InvalidClassError or IncompatibleClassError based on different jars we are trying to include in our project. Attached is a simple BPEL project which tries to invoke a web service through JAVA embedding (no supporting jars need to be included explicitly). It erros with following trace:
    Class org/apache/soap/Envelope violates loader constraints
         Invalid class: org.apache.soap.Envelope
         Loader: soap:10.1.3

    Could you please help us out or provide any pointers. Any help would be highly appreciated

    Because you weren't told what to get, perhaps you already have it eh?
    What you want to read up about is JAX-WS, which is the webservice API bundled by default with your JDK (Java 6 and up). You'll find the wsimport tool in the bin directory of your JDK. I recommend you explore that directory and read up about all the executables you can find there, to be more prepared in the future. Know the tools you work with and all that. Most tools have a manual on this website:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/index.html
    (under tools and utilities). Not wsimport, that is part of the jax-ws documentation. Better you look for jax-ws tutorials using Google, it will be quicker.

                e.printStackTrace();
    }How to solve the stub implementation error?
    Edited by: 901007 on 12 Aug, 2012 10:57 AM

    That did not work either. There was getPorts() and not getPort() and I used getPorts(). And I am getting the below error,
    java.lang.ClassCastException: java.util.HashMap$KeyIterator
    But when I try like the below,
        @WebServiceRef(wsdlLocation="http://localhost:7001/webservice/services/TraderBean?wsdl")
        String url = "http://localhost:7001/webservice/services/TraderBean?wsdl";
        QName qname = new QName("http://statelessSession.basic.ejb20.ejb.examples", "TraderBeanService");
                TraderBeanServiceLocator service = new TraderBeanServiceLocator();
                TraderBean port = (TraderBean) service.getPort(TraderBean.class);
                System.out.println("Invoking the sayHello operation on the port.");
                TradeResult response = port.buy("INR", 200);
                System.out.println(response.getNumberTraded());I am getting the below error,
    Invoking the sayHello operation on the port.
    AxisFault
    faultCode: {http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/}Server.userException

    faultDetail:
         {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}hostname:Gopi_Desktop
    java.lang.InstantiationException: examples.ejb.ejb20.basic.statelessSession.TraderBean
    As you can see the statement"Invoking the sayHello operation on the port." is getting printed but after that error is thrown.
    I tried changing it to, TraderBean port = (TraderBean) service.getPort(qname, TraderBeanServiceLocator.class);
    But even this is throwing the same error, java.lang.InstantiationException: examples.ejb.ejb20.basic.statelessSession.TraderBean
    I changed my webservice using Axis2 web service runtime and this time when I try to invoke using client, I am getting the following,

  • Invoking one web service from another web service

    Hi there,
    I want to invoke a web service lets say X. But befor sending parameters to this web service, what i want to do is first pass the parameters to a web service called Y and Y will decide wether to call X or not. In other words i want to invoke a web service from another web service.
    Its kind of urget so do the needful asap.
    Thanks

    Calling another webservice from within a webservice does not require anything special. The service (say svc1) that calls another service (svc2) will be a web svc client. So you will have to do the same steps for svc1 as you would do for any other web service client
