Invoking rules from bpel.

Im trying to create a decision service in bpel. However there is not much docs on how to accomplish this. Ive created a rule following chapter 4 of the users guide for business rules. However when i go to jdev to select the ruleset. i can select it but no facts show up... am i missing something?

Ok - I re-created my 10.1.3.1 environment to try this one more time. I re-installed so that I would have a clean start.
Everything is on one machine.
1. Using RuleAuthor, I created a repository in c:\rules.
2. Using JDeveloper, I created a BPEL process. Synchronous. Input and output schemas the same as what I used in my rule so that I could test this easily.
3. I added a Rule connection to point to my repository at the c:\rules location. I also added the application server and integration server connections.
4. I added a DecisionService using the Rule connection. I set the invocation pattern to Execute Ruleset (since I have rulesets in my repository, not functions). I browse to select the Ruleset. I see my Rule connection and expand it and see the ruleset and select it. I select the Assert Fact and Watch Fact checkboxes and select Next. In step 2, I confirm that the xsd file is available.
5. I create a Decide activity. I select my Decision Service created in (4). I choose to "execute ruleset, retrieve results, and reset session". I add the Assign Input Facts and Assign Output Facts copy operations to copy my input variable to the ruleset input and the ruleset output assigned to my output variable.
6. Save everything. Deploy.
7. Open Enterprise Manager and go to the web services page. See my bpel process web service endpoint. Select Test Service (twice), enter my input data and Invoke. I see the output from the ruleset evaluation.
I did not copy any files around or do anything with classpaths. The tools did it all for me. In the process of Deploying, the repository gets copied into my JDev project and also to the application server. If I want to make changes to the rules that are effective immediately, I have to edit the respository on the app server, not the one in c:\rules.
Note: make sure you set the invocation pattern as described in step (4). Otherwise you are asking to select a Function and if you don't have any, you'll see nothing under your Decision Service Rule connection.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Heidi.

  • Accessing Business rules from BPEL, OESB and OSB

    Hey you can use Decision Service in BPEL process. You have "Decide" activity for this. However, no idea about ESB or OSB.

  • Invoking rule from a rule

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to call a rule from within another rule ?
    Thanks

    Take the following two rules for example:
    If a customer has flown more than 25.000 miles and is not already a Silver Elite customer then he becomes a Silver Elite customer.
    If a flight concerns a Silver Elite customer then the bonus miles count 1.5 times.
    When a flight is asserted to the rule engine making the first rule fire, the rule engine can change the status of the customer to 'Silver Elite'. This results in a new fact, being that the customer now is a Silver Elite customer, which should fire the second rule. This phenomena is call rule inference.
    Oracle Business Rules uses the Rete algorithm to determine when to fire rules. When a new fact is created, this algorithm will take care of the adding the related rules to the set of rules to fire, and by that automatically will handle rule inference.

  • Getting error  connection timed out while invoking webservice from bpel.

    Hi,
    I am trying to call a secure webservice developed in .Net having extension .svc from the bpel service and in response i am getting error
    com.oracle.bpel.client.BPELFault: faultName: {{http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension}remoteFault}
    messageType: {{http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension}RuntimeFaultMessage}
    parts: {{summary=<summary>exception on JaxRpc invoke: HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: Connection timed out: connect</summary>
    I am able to call this web service from the java programme using HTTPClient by setting the username/password and soapaction in http Header but not from the BPEL process. This .Net service is synchronous in nature. I also set the proxy in opmn.xml but didn't got any success.
    Please reply me ASAP. Need urgent help.
    Thanks.

    Are you working on 11g ? if this is 11g
    How are you invoking the webservice ...does it have any authentication..
    If the webservice which you are invoking has basic http authentication...
    1. In the composite.xml file, right click on the reference and configure WS policies. In security tab, add a security policy named"oracle/wss_http_token_client_policy"
    2. Add two binding properties for the reference
    (i) oracle.webservices.auth.username
    (ii) oracle.webservices.auth.password
    and provide the username and password for those two properties...
    Just try this out...
    Thanks,

  • Invoke WS from BPEL 'exception on JaxRpc invoke'

    I am trying to call a standard Java web service from a BPEL workflow, and randomly get the following error:
    exception on JaxRpc invoke: HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: Connection refused
    The web service in question is deployed on the local machine, and the BPEL partnerLinks point to "localhost". It doesn't appear to matter whether or not the application server(s) are clustered.
    Because it seems to happen randomly, regardless of load, I am thoroughly stumped. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this problem?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan,
    I wonder if you can write a simple Java client and try to call this WS. Do you get this error also? Was the WS deployed to the same application server as the BPEL? Can you try the actual IP address of the server or the hostname rather than localhost? Would that make any difference?

  • Invoking EJB3 from BPEL 11g

    Hi,
    I need to call EJB from my BPEL process. I am using Jdev 11.1.1.4. I am able to call the EJB from my BPEL if both are deployed in the same container.
    Ideally I would be having the EJB deployed in a different machine. But when I try to invoke EJB on a remote machine, I am getting error during invoke saying "Unable to create initial context, jndi lookup failed". I have checked for JNDI entry in the remote machine and its there.
    Thanks,
    Arun

    Anybody knows the solution???????????

  • Can't invoke WS from BPEL process: Unable to locate activated endpoint

    I have a simple Calculator Web Service deployed on Glassfish, that I can access with any kind of SOAP client (e.g. soapUI). I have then created a BPEL process that invokes this external Web Service (which happens to run on the same Glassfish server, but that's largely irrelevant I suppose). I can instantiate and invoke the BPEL process (I've tried it with a dummy assign earlier just to make sure, and it runs successfully), but the BPEL process doesn't seem to be able to locate the external Web Service. I get the following fault:

    Check the ports of Web services and those of BPEL, as Hambo have different communication ports.
    Normally Webservices point to the port 8080 and BPEL to 18181 or 9084.
    Check and I accounts.
    Greetings.

    Can you please let me know where I'm going wrong.

  • SOA Suite 11.1.1.4.0 - Unable to invoke REST service from BPEL

    Hi all,
    I am trying to invoke a REST service from BPEL.
    I am supposed to call the following REST URL:
    http://apolloiserdev.corp.webex.com/ExportComplianceWS/webresources/ECCheck/emailDomainCheck/[email protected]
    In order to achieve this:
    1. I created an empty composite
    2. Added a HTTP Binding as external reference
         2.1 In the HTTP Binding wizard, I copied the above URL in 'Endpoint'
         2.2 Operation Name --> request-response
         2.3 Verb --> GET
         2.4 Created XSD for Req and resp and added those in 'Messages'
    Now, when I deploy and test this process, I get the following error messages:

    Not sure if this helps. But for rest based services we need to create a WSDL which has http protocol and get/post method like below
    types>
    <message name="HttpPostParamIn">
    <part name="param1" type="xsd:string"/>
    <part name="param2" type="xsd:string"/>
    </message>
    <message name="HttpPostParamOut">
    <part name="Body" element="get:Request"/>
    </message>
    <portType name="HttpPostParamPortType">
    <operation name="PostData">
    <input message="tns:HttpPostParamIn"/>
    <output message="tns:HttpPostParamOut"/>
    </operation>
    </portType>
    <binding name="HttpPostParamBinding" type="tns:HttpPostParamPortType">
    <http:binding verb="POST"/>
    <operation name="PostData">
    <http:operation location="/EchoApp/echo"/>
    <input>
    <mime:content type="application/x-www-form-urlencoded"/>
    </input>
    <output>
    <mime:mimeXml part="Body"/>
    </output>
    </operation>
    </binding>
    <service name="PostParamService">
    <port name="HttpPostParamPort" binding="tns:HttpPostParamBinding">
    <http:address location="http://localhost:7001"/>
    </port>
    </service>
    <plnk:partnerLinkType name="PostParamService">
    <plnk:role name="PostParamServiceProvider">
    <plnk:portType name="tns:HttpPostParamPortType"/>
    </plnk:role>
    </plnk:partnerLinkType>
    definitions>
    And then use this wsdl to invoke it from BPEL.like any other wsdl using partner link.

    Hi,
    I'm also trying to implement the scenario of invoking ODI from BPEL process. I need a document with the steps to guide me thru the whole process.
    Thanks in advance!.

  • Invoking BusinessRules with BPEL

    i want to invoke business rules from bpel without using Decide activity , i want to invoke it by embeded java activity that call a java class in jdeveloper and retrieve the rule
    the java class works fine in jdeveloper and retrieves the rules but when i invoke it from bpel an error occured in both javafacts and xmlfacts
    the error message in javafacts is
    exceptionoracle.rules.rl.exceptions.UndefinedException: 'javaclassbusinessrules.Driver' is undefined at line 11 column 7 in underage
    where the javaclassbusinessrules.Driver is the class that i import it as a jar file in java fact
    and according to xml fact the message is
    he can't locate jaxb.property even all the jaxb classes were imported in jdeveloper
    class and deployed with the proess

    Hi,
    why dont you want to use the decide activity?
    It is very easy.
    For embedding see

  • Calling a Procedure which has Array of Objects as arguments (from BPEL)

    Hi,
    I wanted to pass multiple records as arguments to a stored procedure from BPEL.
    We created stored procedure which takes array of Objects as arguments. I invoked it from BPEL. It was successfully compiled and deployed.
    At runtime it is throwing following error.

    I think you from Sierra Atlantic and you using Beta 3. There was a bug in Beta 3 in using arrays, which got fixed in post Beta3. You got to wait till next release.
