IOGear GBU211 adapter hating on my Mac Pro

I opted out of the internal BT adapter on my new Mac Pro (D'oh!) hoping to continue using my IOGear GBU211 dongle. But it's behaving badly now:
1) Cannot connect to my T610 phone. Worked flawlessly before (on G4), and phone connects fine with 15" Powerbook with internal BT module. Neither phone nor Mac Pro can see each other when set to 'Discoverable.'
2) Bluetooth menus and setup screens very slow. Clicking between screens or clikcing on certain buttons/checkboxes gives me a beachball for nearly a minute.
It's not a big deal as I can always get another module. Just wondering if this means that older 3rd-party/v1 modules will not work with Intel Macs now.

Mac Pro 2.66, G4 Dual 1ghz, 15" Powerbook, 3g iPod   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The ONLY external USB Bluetooth adapter supported by Apple is the D-Link DBT-120.
Since around 10.4.6 many other USB adapters have stopped working fully. Pairing usually works ok, but often file transfers fail, and even more frequently iSync is unable to connect properly.

  • DBT-120 Bluetooth 2.0 Adapter not Compatible with Mac Pro V 10.4.10?

    Hello!
    I recently purchased a
    *D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth 2.0 USB Adapter* (My Mac Pro is *V 10.4.10*)
in order to resolve the Mac Pro / Bluetooth issue.
I put in the CD for installation and all of the files (.exe, etc.) read as PC files.
I was told by D-link that the adapter mentioned above is not compatible with this higher version of the Mac Pro.
However, I have read that other users have had success with the DBT-120.
    Does anyone have any recommendations?
    Thank you!
    Jeff

What exactly IS the mac pro/ bluetooth issue?
Some Mac Pros were (are?) shipped with incorrect labelling and connection of the AirPort and Bluetooth internal antenna wires. The causes reduced Bluetooth range.

  • Can I use headphones with the two adapter plugs on a Mac Pro

I have headphones with two plugs.  I don't know where to plug them in. There are two portsin the back and before I open this package I need to know if those are the appropriate ports, since they are the only two side by side ports on the tower.  I have another set of headphones that have the two plugs, but upon trying them, there was no sound regardless of how i adjusted things in the 'sound' in system preferences.
Help with this is greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing that the headset has a microphone as well as earphones, yes? If so, there is no microphone input on your Mac Pro, only a line level input. So you can use the headphones portion as is, but the mic will require additional hardware.
The ports will be designated in the user guide for your model of Mac Pro:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#macpro
but if you look at the various ports on the back of the MP carefully, you'll find one marked with a tiny "speaker" icon. That's the line-level output to which you can connect some headphones. The other port is a line-level input. If you want to use a microphone, you'll need either a line-level mic or an amplifier device of some sort. Griffin's iMic is a commonly-recommended converter.
    Regards.

  • What wireless adapter works with the mac pro, osx lion?

title says it all.  preferably cheap.  can be usb dongle.  something simple.

Whatever Monitor you like, exclusively. There are adapters available for everything.
Analog VGA is not a good idea. It's a Digital world. But it can be done if you want.
A TV set is not a Monitor. TV sets are for moving pictures, and may do badly with stable pictures, fine lines, parallel lines, smooth-edged text, and adjacent patches of bright colors.
Wider than 1920 needs special attention to details.

  • Mini Display Port to VGA adapter with Mac Pro

Just as a word of advice if you're thinking of buying a new Mac Pro and planning on hooking it up to dual VGA displays at their native resolutions - don't.
Apple claim it will support 3 VGA displays. That might be true in a very loose sense but not in the sense that you'll actually be able to work with it.
My experience (all using same adapter, cables and monitors):
*Mac Pro - Dual screen set up*
1 x LG Flatron W2242S connected via DVI > VGA adapter - offers native resolution (1680x1050)
1 x LG Flatron W2242S connected via Mini Display > VGA adapter - does not offer native resolution
*Mac Pro - Dual* screen set up*
    1 x Iiyama E2472HD connected via DVI - offers native resolution (1920x1080)
1 x Iiyama E2472HD connected via Mini Display > VGA adapter - offers native resolution (1920x1080) but displays it pillar boxed (i.e. squashed)
*MacBook Pro - Dual screen set up*
    1 x laptop screen - fine (obviously)
1 x LG Flatron W2242S connected via Mini Display > VGA adapter - offers native res (1680x1050)
The conclusions being that despite having the exact same configuration in terms of adapters and monitors my £3k Mac Pro is incapable of doing what my MacBook Pro can.
I have spoken to Apple about this and they have admitted it is a limitation and suggested buying DVI monitors along with the Dual Link DVI adapter (£70).
    Not ideal.

DVI-I provides the direct Analog signals needed to get VGA using a very simple adapter.
DsiplayPort (and its Mini variant) requires a converter to produce VGA or Dual-Link DVI, and the converter must be active/powered. There is a lot of logic in those converters. It may also have additional limitations.
In general, you should hook your highest resolution, most demanding display up with the DVI to VGA adapter. If running two Mini DisplayPort displays, ALL MiniDisplayPort converters must be active/powered.

  • Four monitor setup on 2013 mac pro using old 23" Cinema Displays

My current monitor setup on a 2009 mac pro is four monitors.  Three 23" Apple Cinema Displays (aluminum, mid 2000's) and one large Sony HDTV mounted to the wall as a fourth monitor.
I achieve this via 2 Geforce 120 video cards, each with a mini display port and a Dvi port each.
My question is, can I retain this same exact monitor setup on a new 2013 Mac pro cylinder?  If so, what adapters will be needed, and do they all plug into the thunderbolt ports?
Hearing all kinds of nightmares about multiple monitor problems with the new MP so want to be sure this will work before I drop big bucks.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the quick reply!
For the Tv I'm currently going VGA out of that to a Dvi adapter into the old Mac Pro.  The 3 Cinema Displays are all ether direct Dvi to the video card and two I have to use a Dvi to mini display port adapter.
So for the new Mac Pro, assuming I don't use the HDMI port, I would need Dvi to minidisplayport adapters for each of the 3 cinema displays and a VGA to minidisplayport for the TV?
EDIT: And the mini display ports may as well all be active I guess, and they need to plug into the usb bus for power?
    Thanks

  • Installing Yosemite on Mac Pro Early 2008

I seem to be having a problem installing Yosemite on my Mac Pro, 2008. This computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, fully up to date. I checked Apple's website to check compatibility and I am understanding my machine is compatible. When I go onto the app store, I get a window saying "OS X 10.10 is not compatible with this system."
    The system contains:
2 x 2.66 Dual Core Intel Xeon Processor (Quad Core)
8 GB Ram DDR2 ECC      (Does it need to be DDR3?)
    Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
    NVIDIA GeForce 120 512 GDDR3
    750GB HDD
    10.6.8 Snow Leopard
I own a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina (15" i7 2.3ghz, GeForce 750) and I connected my laptop to the Mac Pro VIA FireWire 800 (used thunderbolt adapter) and set the Mac Pro into "Target Disk Mode" and used the Yosemite installer and installed it to the HDD on the Mac Pro, but when I booted up the Mac Pro (after it installed), I got the blinking folder of death (Instead of Apple logo, flashing folder with question mark). At this point I had to use the Snow Leopard install disk, and start the Mac Pro using the disk, wipe the HDD and reinstall Snow Leopard and go back to phase one.
Please let me know what I can do.
    Thanks!

You said "2 x 2.66 Dual Core Intel Xeon Processor (Quad Core)"
Do you really have a two dual-core processors? If so then you do not have a 2008 Mac Pro. The 20 came with qual core processors. If you click on the Apple icon in upper right and select About This Mac what model Maac is listed? A 2008 is 3.1. A 2006 is 1.1 and 2007 is 2.1. Only the 2008 and later can go to higher than Lion without a hack

  • Need a RAID that will work on both new and old Mac Pro

Desperately need to expand my RAID storage, and also not quite ready to buy the new Mac Pro.   Are there any high quality 6TB+ RAID enclosures that will work on both the new and older non-firebolt Mac Pros?  I already have a sh*t load of 2TB 3.5 drives, so I only need an enclosure.
Even when i get the new macpro, I will use the old mac pro as a second station, so i need the RAID to work on both.

Why not go for a eSATA Raid and a cheap eSATA card for old Mac Pro  and get either a Thunderbolt to eSATA or USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter for your new Mac Pro? Thunderbolt to eSATA is faster, of course.
I have a MacPower/Inxtron Hydra 4 x 2 TB eSata for example. I have a eSATA card in my Mac Pro and when I need to use it on my Retina Macbook Pro I use a USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter. Gives me about 240 MBytes/s with Raid 5.
On the eSATAcard it's just a little bit more, like 250/260 MBytes/s.

  • 24" LED Cinema Display not working with Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core, model identifier MacPro5,1) purchased in late 2010 and a 24" LED Cinema Display. The Mac Pro has three video ports--a full-sized DVI and two mini DVI. When I plug the Cinema Display into either of the mini DVI ports, I cannot get a picture, although the iSight camera works fine. If I plug another monitor into the full-sized DVI port the computer believes that is the only monitor. The Cinema Display works fine with my MacBook, so there is nothing physically wrong with it.
Is it not possible to use this monitor with a Mac Pro without an adapter, even though the Mac Pro does have mini DVI ports?

  • Thunderbolt and Mac-Pro

I have a MBP "17/ 2011 and a Thunderbolt Display "27/2011 . Does anybody knows if there will be an adapter to use a Mac Pro/2007 with the TBolt display ?

You can't. TB displays only work on iMac and others like MacBook line with motherboard support.
So you need "old" not  proprietary, and lots of those to choose from.

  • Question: best Hardware set-up for final cut univ. and mac pro

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used final cut universal with their mac pro and can recommend a hardware set-up (Processors, memory... ) they found best adapted for it.
    my mac pro:
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    thank you
MAC PRO   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Final Cut Studio/video editing requires all four parts of a system…
    1) Processor performance
    2) GPU performance
    3) RAM
    4) Hard drive performance
… to be working in tandem. If any one of these areas a caught short then the system as a whole is disproportionately affected. It's one of the downsides to video is that everything needs to be working as well as it can.
So, what I would recommend for you is the following setup as your goal is something like…
    Mac Pro 2.66GHz
    6GB RAM (4 x 1GB + 4 x 512MB - I'm presumng you already have the 4 x 512MB)
ATi X1900 XT graphics card (or better - depneds on what's available at the time)
2 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB RAID 0 for boot and scratch
2 x Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500GB RAID 0 for data
Any further eSATA storage requirements for cloning, backup and data
    Not cheap but should scream.

  • Formatting USB Key (MS Pro Duo with IOGEAR USB adapter) for MAC & Windows

    Hi,
How do I setup my MS Pro Duo card and IOGEAR USB Adapter to read the entire capacity on both MAC OSX and Windows?
At this moment, I used it on MAC first and then Windows reads the card but the message 'disk full' appears when transferring files onto the card from PC.

    Windows doesn't ask to format.
Windows reads the folder and files uploaded on the MACbook. However, it still says that 'disk is full'.
Is it a formatting issue with FAT32 vs NTFS?
