IOS 4 : removing the "can't connect to mail server" messages

Ok, since the new Mail in iOS 4 have a "global inbox", everytime i open the app without being connected on the internet, it send me 5 "can't connect to mail server" message. So i have to click "OK" five times before being able to use the app. It does that even when WiFi is set to off.
Am i the only one ? Is there a setting for that ? Do I have to wait for iOS 4.1 ? Does god really exist ?

Your email provider has servers. There are no Thunderbird servers. Thunderbird is email client software that runs on your computer.
Contact your email provider about server issues.

  • All the sudden can't connect to mail server

This morning I stopped receiving email. Mail says it can't connect and that the connection timed out. I use IMAP with SSL (port 993). I don't know of anything I could have changed on the MacBook to cause this. As well, my iPhone can't connect either (same settings as Mail). It gave a connection error once and since then doesn't give errors but never pulls in new mail. I can ping the mail server and telnet in via port 993. I'm not sure what else to look at. Mail settings haven't changed that I can see. Hosting provider says there aren't any issues on their end. Any suggestions?

Do you have Mail properly configured for their servers? I know you said you use SSL, but does the ISP use it, and if they do are you using their default port? Verify your server setup by opening Mail preferences, select Accounts, click on Account Information tab. From the server drop down menu select Edit. Check that your server is correctly configured and the right security option selected. If you have multiple server entires delete all but the one you use for your mail account.
You can also try removing the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file in case it's become corrupted.
It also can't hurt to do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Download and install the freeware AppleJack 1.5 - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and carefully read its instructions. Then run its full suite of maintenance and repair routines.

  • Can't connect to mail server - DNS Server settings?

    Hello:
Let me preface this question by saying that computer networking is not my strong suit.
Last week I moved our web hosting from our ISP to Lunarpages; our domain is marshall-arts.net. I set up some POP email accounts on our new mail servers and was able to successfully send and receive email wirelessly using our G4 ibook. However, none of our networked desktop systems could connect to our new mail server, although they could connect to our ISP's mail server; they also have no problem connecting to the web. The mail server and user names were identical between the desktop systems and the ibook. But upon closer examination of the TCP/IP settings of the ibook I found that the ibook had 209.253.113.10 entered into the DNS Servers (optional) field. That field was blank in the desktop systems. Once I entered that address into the DNS Servers field on the desktop systems they had no problem connecting to our Lunarpages mail servers.
Here's our setup, as best as I can describe it:
We have an AirPort Extreme connected to our DSL router. It's connected via ethernet, configured manually with a static IP, router and DNS server addresses provided by our ISP. It's set to distribute IP addresses with the AirPort client computers sharing a single IP address using DHCP and NAT (10.0.1.1. addressing). It's connected via ethernet to a Linksys gigabit ethernet switch to which we have connected three desktop Macs running OS 10.3.x and 10.4.x.
The TCP/IP of the three desktop systems and the ibook are configured Using DHCP.
As I wrote above, only the ibook had an address entered into the DNS Servers field, 209.253.113.10. This doesn't correspond to anything our ISP provided (those addresses are entered in the AirPort Extreme.) I have no idea where it came from.
    So I have two questions:
Would that address have been generated automatically while setting up the AirPort connection on the ibook?
Why would that supposedly optional DNS Server address be required for me to connect to our new mail servers (but not our old ISP mail servers)?
    Thank you.

  • CF Can't Connect To Mail Server

I have been running CF 8 since release and generally no
problems. Now, it can't connect to our mail server and there
appears to be no reason. Here's the setup: We have CF 8 Standard on
Win 2003 server. The same box runs SmarterMail 4.3.
When I try to verify connection settings in CF Administrator,
it fails, using all of the same settings that worked 2 hours ago.
I've tried restarting the CF service and that didn't help.
    Any ideas are much appreciated!

    > it fails, using
    > all of the same settings that worked 2 hours ago.
Something has changed in your config.
It might not have been you who changed it, so ask around.
THis sort of thing doesn't just "stop working", without
    intervention of
    some description.
Have you checked your SMTP server is responsive?
Have you given the system a reboot (it is Windows after all,
    so this is
    almost the first troubleshooting step).
Is you mail server set to relay email for the CF server? (NB:
    do NOT set
an OPEN relay. That would be bad).
Have your relay settings, or login creds changed?
Has anyone been fiddling with your firewall or port filters
    or anything?
Have you asked your mail admin what they've been doing?
There's really a lot of things you could investigate and
    report back on, I
    think.

  • Can't connect because mail server doesn't support A-POP

A strange little bug is happening with me. Every time I reboot my mac and startup mail, one of my POP accounts fails to connect giving the warning message that my mail server doesn't support A-POP.
After quitting and restarting mail about 5 times it finally kicks in and connects up.
    Anyone else had sim issues?

  • Can't connect to mail server...

Dunno if the two issues are related... downloaded and installed Thunderbird two days ago... set it up as newsreader and mail client without issue. Trying to set up Mail as mail client and it keeps telling me that some other client has the account locked out. This is when Thunderbird isn't running...
    All assistance greatly appreciated.
    TIA,
    Lang

I wish to thank all for the replies, but it hasn't had done the trick. I've had success in one way however -
We "logged off" from what she normally uses as a user profile, and logged on to an old user profile created many moons ago by an Apple specialist in troubleshooting a problem when she first got the computer. This old profile ("test") was used then and never deleted, so it doesn't have whatever software update (I suspect a security thingee from Apple) that has sabotaged her normal version of Mail.
I don't want to have her chasing around in different profiles to look for her mail, so I'd like to repair whatever Software glitch took down her main copy of Mail. Again I suspect something is blocking Mail from downloading mail from the server to Mail (the program on her iMac)
I don't know boo about Apple OS's since I could never afford one and have been a tormented Windooze user. So, while I could breeze through this if it was one of my MS junkboxes, I fear to try to solve this on her iMac. If 10.4 was out, I'd simply save her files, format the HD and load the new OS, but I understand I have to wait until Fall, yes?
Any tips on how to uninstall the Security Update or any ideas on how to root out the offending program? We have no Anti-virus on this iMac, as I stopped paying for Norton updates about 2 years ago after she has never, ever had a hit (unlike me running MS junk where the AV is essential)
    Many thanks in advance...

  • Mail can't connect to isp server. provider says it's an internal issue

mail can't connect to isp server. provider says it's an internal issue, mail is set up corectly.

Are connecting exclusively through IMAP or through POP?   IMAP automatically stores all the e-mails on the server.
POP gets them onto your Mac.   The advantage of IMAP, unless you desire, you are not downloading all the attachments to your hard drive, and bandwidth issues of downloading slowing you down with lots of large attachments are avoided.   The other advantage with IMAP, you can try a web based e-mail to see if your e-mail program missed downloading everything.    http://www.mail2web.com/ is my favorite web based e-mail.  I recommend at least trying it to see if it will let you see your e-mail.  Any custom folders will be invisible, but at least anything in your inbox should be visible and usable.
Are you using any other e-mail software for forwarding, such as gmail?

  • IPhoto for iOS removes the GPS exif data from the photo after an edit

iPhoto for iOS removes the GPS exif data from the photo after an edit
Using the iPhone camera, I take a photo and then I want to make the photo a little brighter.
So, I edit a photo using iPhoto for iOS and then save the photo back to the camera roll.
Now, I might want to see where that photo was taken via another app (like Photo Mapo) or on the map using the Photos app, or even the Mac iPhoto app.
However, the GPS data has been removed. Looks like all of the other exif data is still in the photo.
Why not just have a feature to remove the GPS data if the user wants? no reason to remove it for them.
The user explictily chose to have location services turned on so the GPS data would be in the photo.
    Is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    Brian.

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
None of my cameras has a GPS function so I never see that data in the info of a photo in iPhoto for iOS. But I do see the map choice to set a location for the photo. Perhaps a reboot will fix this for you.

  • Do i need to remove the .mac account from my mail

    HI,
Just setup the icloud, everything seems to be working fine, getting mail exc..
But when i open my mail i see that the .mac acount is offline! i get the message:
The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user -------------
in the accounts setup it shows two accounts:
.Mac iCloud IMAP -- the one thats Off-line
    iCloud icloud IMAP -- On-line
Did all the change password stuff for everything
anyways the short of it, was wanting to know if i should just delete the .Mac account out of the list now that i am changed over to the iCloud.
    thanks for any help
    Barry

    Update:
I did remove the old .mac account from mail:

so no more having the .Mac account offline,
no more trying to enter a password that just will not work
everything is working Great! receiving all my email.
