IOS 6.1.2 upgrade and email sync

Since downloading iOS 6.1.2 I have been having trouble downloading my email on my iPad. Anyone else having a problem with this issue?

If you are using a hotmail account then what we have found is that on two 3GS phones, that were updated to iOS 6.1.2, we could no longer log into the hotmail server. This worked fine on an iPad II.
After spending a few hours deleting mail accounts and going through most of the other threads and trying all the possibilities from them we could not fix this problem.
The problem was fixed when we connected the iPhone to iTunes and sync'd the phone. Then hotmail was back working again on the phone. So maybe this might work for you.
We updated over the air initially which has affected some users.
I never thought I would be saying that I think it's time to consider something else. Apple has completely lost it. Too interested in the $$$ and no longer considering their customers. Its not just iOS either. It's accross the board. Too many issues lately and this is the icing on the cake.

Easy solution for restoring lost calendar informaiton, thank goodness. On your iPhone, go to settings, then to iCloud. If your Calendar selection is turned off, turn it on. Your info should restore. If your Calendar selection is turned on, then turn it off. Choose to save calendars when asked. After it shuts the Calendar off, turn it back on. Your info should be restored.
Thank you to Apple support for walking me through this. Shame on you Apple for not just telling people about this easy fix rather than making us go through all of this pain and worry.

Since yesterday morning about 11:00 I have been having TERRIBLE email problems on this iPad 3G. Email comes in (I hear the sound) but nothing displays -- no folders, no content, no nothing in e-mail. The blank email screen shows up and then disappears after about 10 seconds, taking me back to the Home Screen.
Right now, the only way I can see email on this device is to log onto AOL via the AOL app.
I have been doing a lot of online reading about the problem. It has to do with iOS 8.1.3 and it affects older iPads and iPhones. I'm having no problems on my iPod touch, which -- fortunately -- is so old it cannot update its iOS 6.
I waited to update the iOS on this iPad until iOS 8 was "mature." That was about 2 weeks ago.
Anybody know know if Apple is aware? working on a solution?

Hotmail Full Calendar/Contacts and Email Sync Poss...

You can set up hotmail to sync calendar/contacts and email (all folders, just like imap) through the N900 but have to set it up as an "exchange" account.
In the email client add new account and select "exchange" and put in your username and password. The next page will ask for the server which is m.hotmail.com - leave the domain empty. Select SSL (which it does by default.) Then set up your sync parameters.
This is nice for consumers who don't have a work exchange account that takes care of syncing for you.
If you run Outlook - you can use the Outlook connector to sync your contacts/calendar to Hotmail - which will then sync onto your N900. This way you won't have to use Ovi or PC Suite to sync...
Just passing along... I searched and found some info on this for other Nokia devices - but nothing for the N900 so I thought I would mention it.

kudos for that, since i upgraded to pr1/2 i've been changing between both google and hotmail, but after pr1.3 i decided to stay with hotmail.
anyways here are the settings to get google account working :
Calendar AND contacts sync settings can be created by:
1st Open settings menu.
2nd Open "Email for Exchange" submenu.
3rd Filling in the fields as:
a. Server: m.google.com
b. Port: 443
c. Secure connection: check yes
d. Conflict resolution: your choice
e. User name: [email protected]
f. Password: your password
g. Domain: leave blank
h. Synchronize e-mail: leave unchecked.
i. Synchronize calendar and tasks: check yes.
k. Calendar: N900 (to populate existing calendar) or create a new one
j. Synchronize calendar back: your choice
k. Synchronize completed tasks: your choice
l. Synchronize contacts: check yes
m. First synchronization: your choice
A note of caution: For this sync to work your calendar must be empty. If you have already used the synchronization tool to transfer the calendar data from your old phone to your n900 it will not allow you to write the Google calendar data from the server into it. The n900 calendar will remain as a local, unsynchronized calendar and you must create another calendar for synchronization purposes. However, I believe this is not the best way to go. Instead, if you have already transferred your calendar data from your old phone open the n900's calendar, select all, and delete. Then the Google server will synchronize its data with the N900 calendar.

I have my iphone syncing with my exchange but there is a few issues possible there is a solution or a thirdparty software to fix it.
My issue is I can not invite people when create a schedule on the iphone. I also can not seem to reschedule or delete the appoint once I accept it.
Finally this more with email sync once I read the email in iphone the outlook envelope notification on my still exist it show emails read I would like disppear if I read email on the iphone and there no more new emails then in theory that envelope should disappear is their a way to do this?

Yes, it's a missing feature.

This is a bug in Outlook. The workaround is to right click on the Inbox and "Mark all as read"

OK. Called my service provider today. Apparently razmee209 was right. Bell/Virgin network is experiencing LTE problems since September and it affects random people all LTE phones. They said they are working on it. And the solution for now is to turn LTE off and keep the phone on 3G network.
Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Which account type are you using? POP3, IMAP or Exchange? What does 'Hotel Sales' refer to?
Please come back and provide more information about this problem so that we can resolve it more efficiently.

How can I stop ios 7.1.1 update and still sync and back my iphone4?

iOS 7 wiped my iPhone 4 and I am still manually restoring the lost music, photos ect that I can still find. I never want another update - yes apple I really think you don't gave a stuff about us, we can be forced to buy another phone and that'll boost your profits more so why would you care! Anyway the phone has downloaded but not applied the update. Next time on power my phone will be bricked! Yes I have back ups but iTunes lost those last time. And doubt they've done a fix for that! I've turned off auto sync in iTunes and it has been asking to do update which I decline as blew up my computer restoring from ios 7. If I try to backup and sync will the update happen? If so I need to dump apple as I cannot lose my phone and my pc again I am trying to do my finals! Apple treat your customers properly and test these updates properly as there are other options! Help!

I had the same request and called Apple Store where I live yesterday and asked if there was any way to make this downgrade happen. But unfortunately not...

ITunes upgrade and iPod syncing issues

I opened itunes and it said there was an upgrade for it. I installed it and when I plug in my ipod, it syncs, then when I try to sync it again, it does not. on the initial opening of itunes I noticed that windows has the ipod drive listed as "G". upon syncing it disappears. I unplugged the ipod and then plugged it back in. windows again recognizes the ipod and the ipod automatically syncs when connected so it can find it in itunes. as soon as its done syncing, again it disappears from windows. there has to be a fix for this. as far as I can tell its in the itunes software that is causing this because I have not changed any drivers. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't want to do manual update, theres nothing else we can really recommend. You might want to invest in a cheap External drive and put all your music on it. You can get one for 100 or less if you shop around

IPhoto and Email Sync

Recently I transferred my iPhoto library from my old MacBook to my brand new MacBook Air by copying the iPhoto folder accross to my new machine.
When I access my photos through iPhoto, everything is fine; however, when I create an email from Mac Mail and then hit the Attach button and navigate to Photos on the sidebar, my latest photo downloads are not available. It seems there is a lack of synchronization between iPhoto proper, and the Photo folder available from Mail.
Is there something I can do. I still have my old MacBook from where I transferred the photos originally.

This is not - nor ever was - a supported way for access your photos.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.

Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of the above are a: Faster and b: safer than rooting around in the old Library's folders.

OS upgrades and iPad syncing

Hi, I have an installer for Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and I am tempted to upgrade my late 2009 iMac (running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard), but as a security precaution, I wanted to ask if the use of backing up my iPad will be affected by this change of OS. I am currently running snow leopard on my iMac and iOS 6.0 on my iPad, and I have backed up my iPad on this mac in the past. If I upgrade my iMac to OS X 10.8, will this affect my backups or the ability to make backups in ANY way?

Backups won't be affected. iTunes is the same version on Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion, so you won't have any problem. However, you must make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner before upgrading, so your data will be safe in case the upgrade goes wrong. My iPad is supplied by my employer, whose office is in another state where I very rarely visit. My applications are loaded at that office. I manually sync media here at home on my MacBook Pro. I would like to upgrade to 4.2.1 here at my home but I am worried this might erase my applications. Anyone know what I should expect? Thanks in advance...

From reading the following it appears that the apps themselves are not in the backup. Specifically it says it backs up:
Application settings, preferences, and data
App Store Application data (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).

Upgrade and email

I upgraded my 3GS to 4.0 and haven't had many of the problems discussed in the forums. However when I go on my phone to delete emails it has frozen up several times. I need to shut off my phone and reopen my mail before I can continue with the deletes of emails. Has anyone else had this problem? This doesn't happen all the time, but it has happened enough to become annoying.

IOS 4.3,4 Upgrade and Tom Tom

I have just upgraded the iOS on my Ipod Touch 4gto iOS 4.3.4 and my TomTom Car Kit and Tom Tom Car Kit tool are no longer docking or picking up any GPS signals. This has been working fine for months until this upgrade.

I have found that I have to do a complete shutdown by holding the home button and on/off button down until the power down slider shows. on power up it then works but I have to go through the same rigmorole every time because as soon as it is undocked again, the and re docked the car kit shows up as undocked.
Don't know if anyone has any suggestions. For now I will have to live with it.
