IOS 8 photo albums

I'm guessing with iOS 8 there isn't a separate album for photos I took on my phone and what is on the cloud from other devices on my iCloud account?  Is there a way to separate them?

You can read some here
Other changes in the Photos app are primarily cloud-related. The default Photo Stream functionality has changed in a way that regular people will probably like but that we personally find annoying. iOS 8 does away with the concept of the "camera roll," the album of photos taken locally on the device you're actually holding in your hands. Now iCloud photos and local photos all mix together into one continuous stream. Many will like this because it makes all of your stuff available everywhere, and it means you won't have to poke around in different albums to find a picture if you don't remember whether you took it on your iPhone or iPad. If you're taking a few hundred screenshots for something like this review, though, it's a little irritating to get screenshots from multiple devices plus pictures from iPhoto all mixed together. You've got to turn Photo Stream off if you only want to see the stuff that's actually on your device.
Finally, there's that iCloud Photo Library feature Apple talked up at WWDC, which has made it to the GM build of iOS 8—but only as a disabled-by-default beta version. It's similar to Photo Stream, but it differs in a few key ways. Both offer to sync photos between your various Apple devices using iCloud, but Photo Stream will only save pictures for 30 days or until you upload more than 1,000 photos, whichever happens first. iCloud Photo Library won't delete photos automatically. Photo Stream photos don't count against your iCloud storage space, however, but iCloud Photo Library pictures will. You'll definitely need to pony up for more iCloud storage space if you're anything more than a casual photographer.
If you still want to use iCloud Photo Library, there's nothing here to stop you. However, that "Beta" tag means "proceed with caution, because we aren't ready to promise that this thing won't eat all your pictures." You're prompted to back up your iPhone's local photo library to your computer before getting started, and you should be extra attentive to performing those kinds of backups for as long as that beta tag applies (we'd look for it to be removed either when Yosemite releases later this year, or when the OS X version of the Photos app comes out early next year)."

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • "iOS Photos" album missing from Facebook drop down box

I have an iPhone 5S running iOS 7.0.4. I want to post a Photo from the Camera Roll to Facebook. I tap on a Photo in Camera Roll and choose FaceBook. The Album field defaults to one of my existing Albums at the top of the list. When I scrool down through the list the iOS Photos album doesn't appear. Therefore any photo I upload via the Photo App appears on Facebook under a specific Album not Mobile Photos or iOS Photos. How do I get iOS Photos to appear at the top of the drop down box?
    Many Thanks!

  • Direct upload from Photos app to Facebook & iOS Photos Album

When I use the Photos app to upload photos to Facebook, it places all of the pictures in an album called iOSPhotos.  There is no option to post them just to my normal Facebook Timeline. In other words, I'm forced to select an Album.
This is a problem because I get a huge mishmash of photos from different dates, times etc in this album called iOS Photos.  Instead of commenting on an individual upload, people end up commenting on the whole iOSPhotos album.  So you get a huge odd conversation appearing over time as more photos end up in there.
Apple, could you please allow us to upload a photo to the timeline, without forcing it into a specific album?  Or to allow us to create a new Album on the fly?

Once again, very aggressive and defensive response. Neither addresses the question nor aids in finding a workaround.
The Facebook api is open to all, and allows any album or the timeline to be specified. Many other apps and platforms manage that. So the Facebook end of this is available and ready to use.
It is an Apple choice to load to 1 specific album only, instead of offering the user a choice of album, or indeed the timeline. So the only part of this Facebook/Apple interface that needs a change to address this request is the Apple end.
My Android kit does this nicely enough, as does my Macbook Pro , its just my IOS devices that struggle.
It is Apple's absolute right to leave this as it is, presumably to nudge users further into the iCloud ecosystem, but it is a legitimate request and entirely within Apple's control to resolve.

  • Syncing iOS Photo Albums

I'm looking for the most effecient way to manually "sync" my iPad and iPhone photo albums. Specifically, I'd like to have all the same albums, pictures, and videos on both devices. (One could also add an iPod into the mix as well.)
I like the devices to be "synced" for two reasons: 1) I simply prefer to have all my content available on both iOS devices, and 2) I have found that if content is not "synced" between devices it becomes hard to organize.
This process must be done manually for a few reasons: 1) Photostream/iCloud pics are temp, 2) Photostream/iCloud doesn't sync albums, and 3) Photostream/iCloud doesn't support videos.
Below I will outline the method am I currently using, and I'd like feedback if there is an easier/better/different way to accomplish the same. (If there is a way to automize any of these processes using additional 3rd party apps, please let me know.)
    1) Manually create the same albums on each iOS device. Ex. Create Family, Work, and Hobby albums on both devices.
    2) Manually (of course) assign iPhone pics/videos to iPhone albums and iPad pics/videos to iPad albums.
    3)  Use Photostream to automagically transfer pictures betwix devices. Pull pictures from Photostream and manually assign to corresponding iPhone/iPad albums. Ex. Take a picture with iPhone. Assign it to "Family" album on iPhone. Then, on iPad, pull same picture from Photostream and assign it to "Family" album on iPad.
    4) Use PhotoSync iOS app to manually transfer videos betwix devices. Pull videos from "Saved Photos/Camera Roll" and manually assign to corresponding iPhone/iPad albums. Ex. Take a video with iPhone. Assign it to "Family Videos" album on iPhone. Then, use PhotoSync app to send video to iPad. Assign video from "Saved Photos" album to "Family Videos" album.
    5) If you delete or remove from album a pic/video on the iPhone, manually do the same on the iPad and vice versa.
This is the method I use. Again, I'm seeking feedback about whether there is a better way to accomplish the same.
    Thanks!

    Hello JimS19,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. If you are having issues accessing your Shared Albums from your iPad (but not from your other devices), you may want to double-check your iCloud Photo Sharing configuration as outlined in the following articles, just to make sure it hasn't changed:

  • Photo albums in IOS 7.0.4

I have just updated the software on the iPad to IOS 7.0.4 and can no longer view or access our photo albums. They appear as a numbered square which try to load when activated but nothing happens.

After copying the pics to new album tried to delete these pictures from camera roll. But it deleted pictures from album as well.
Actually, that is how it is supposed to work.  Albums only create new views of the photos you are storing in your camera roll. Albums do not actually hold copies of the Photos, just a reference to the photo in the camera roll. Albums are more like collections of bookmarks to what is kept in your camera roll. This way you can add a photo to many different albums without needing extra storage for these photo albums. But if you delete a photo from the camera roll, it will be removed from all albums, since the photo is no longer stored on the iPhone.
If you have an iCloud backup or iTunes backup of your iPhone, that still has the photos that you just deleted, you could try to restore your camera roll from the backup, see: iCloud: Backup and restore overview

  • Photo albums in iOS 5

    Hi there,
I used to sync my iPad1 with iPhoto to create a dynamic display of our multiple product lines. Everything went fine until the iOS 5 upgrade.
For whatever reason, albums on the iPad now appear to be classified in a strange manner, unlike on iPhoto where I have ranked them by alphabetical order. I thought it would be solved if I sorted the albums manually on the iPad, to recover a convenient way of accessing each product line in no time.
The bad news is that I had to update a couple of photos in iPhoto. Guess what? When i synced my iPad to take these changes into account ... it went back to the original "order" of albums. So I had to do the manual sorting all over again. What an awful waste of time!
Is there any parameter or initiative that I am missing to get my iPad to suit my professional needs again?
Otherwise, I would hope that Apple developers realise that the present iOS 5 photo album classification is IRRELEVANT for businesses who use iPads for marketing purposes.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have named all my 16,000 photos when saving into appropriately named Albums in iPhoto. The albums are arranged in iPhoto in alpha order. My 3Gs has always mirrored that alpha order. It's annoying enough that you can't search Photos on iPhone by name (as you can in iPhoto, and even in Photo Browser in Apple Mail) but NOW, after upgrading to iOS 5, my Albums on iPhone are just some seemingly random order, album names starting with a "B", say, may be mixed in with "S"s or whatever, making it extremely inconvenient to find an album.
I cannot fathom the WHY for this. Please, Apple: I would love to see Search available for Photos on iPhone. But at the very least, PLEASE allow some way to restore Albums in alpha order on iPhone. Do this quickly, please. It is NOT sensible to have to scroll through randomly arranged Albums.

Take pictures, but are not taken to save them in a photo album. This problem occurred after you update to ios 6.0.2. My phone is iPhone 5

That's corrected, they save to your camera roll.

  • After updating to iOS 5, the Photo album stopped working.

After updating to iOS v5, my iphone 4S's built-in Photo app stopped working.
The Camera takes a photo, but the photo disappears from the camera roll and shows no photos in the photoalbum.
My iPhone used to take photos so, I don't believe it is a hardware issue.
Is anyone having the same problem?
Would there be a update of the v5 to solve this issue?

    I figured it out.
In my case, I just needed to restore my phone to the factory setting.
My iphone = iphone 4 running iOS v5
    My computer = iMac
Software didn't work = preinstalled "Photos" app
Symptoms = after I take a photo, the image thumbnail of the camera roll shows the image, but images are found neither in the camera roll nor in the albums of the "Photos".
    Solution procedure:
    connect the iphone to iMac
in the Summary window of the devices, click "Restore"
choose not to save the backup file
choose to restore the iphone as a "NEW" device instead of choosing a backup files*
    follow the rest of instructions.
It helped and now I can view my photos in the photo album.
    * However, I accidentary re-restored it with a saved backup file and the "Photos" application stopped working again. I repeated the resotre procedure avoiding the accidental restoration to a backup file.
The camera and the photos were working before iOS v5 update, and it is now working again. So, it is obviously not the hardware issue. It seems that iOS v5 and the Photos are having compatibility issue Apple should look into this issue.

  • IOS 5 Photo Albums

I have been attempting to create new albums within the Photos app (iPhone 4, IOS 5).  It seems that after I've created them (by adding photos from the camera roll), at some point they simply disappear.  The timing doesn't seem to be consistent--sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after a few hours.  The camera roll and photo library are not affected, just the new albums that I created.  Anyone else having this problem?

Yeah this is REALLY frustrating.  It happened to me when I "upgraded" to iOS 5.  I've managed to figure out how to get rid of the duplicate photo albums by making a new folder outside the iPhone folder on my PC which is located in "My Pictures" on my computer.  I moved all the pictures from my actual iPhone to this new backup folder plus copied what was in the iPhone folder on my PC.
Once I was sure I had backed up all my pictures taken with my iPhone I deleted everything in the "iPhone" folder on my PC including the iPhone Cache folder.  I synced from the folder "iPhone" which was now empty & it made the duplicate albums disappear.
I tried syncing from the backup folder to using iTunes & WHAM duplicate photo albums again!!! All the same pictures but now one had the name "Photo Album" & the other duplicate was named the folder that I synced from.  IRRITATING!!!!
So I got rid of the duplicate albums by deleting everything in the iPhone folder on my PC & syncing from that folder chosen in iTunes.  It's a drag that I can't load up my pictures to enjoy or share without duplicate albums showing up.  I want to be able to put pictures from my computer to "Camera Roll" which allows me to delete whatever I don't want easily.
I hate that Apple has made this iCloud thing so duplicate folders show up on my phone without my ability to just delete pictures from those albums or delete the albums easily from my phone.
    FIX FIX FIX it Apple!
I should also note that I never allowed iCloud services on my iPhone & have NOT downloaded the service to my computer either.  I don't want anything to do with iCloud.

  • IOS 5 Duplicate Photo Albums

iOS 5 produces exact duplicate photo albums in my Photos on my iPhone.
Before syncing photos from my PC I had Camera Roll and Photo Stream.
In iTunes I configured my iPhone to sync with a folder containing photos, for this example we'll call it FolderX.
When the iPhone synced with that folder it created TWO albums, one called FolderX and one called Photo Library and they BOTH have the EXACT same photos.
So now I have Camera Roll, Photo Stream, Photo Library, and FolderX with the last two albums having the precise same number of the exact same photos.
I do not need this. I do not need two photo albums with the exact same pics. Why on God's green Earth would they make it do this?
When I click the "edit" button I do not get the option to to do anything to the albums except the FolderX album, and it only has the option to move it, but alas, it really doesn't let you move it even though the button is there.
I have already deleted all iPhone and iPod photo cache folders and resynced.
What do I need to do to have only one album on my iPhone with my photos, and not two?

  • IOS photo app vs iPhoto, keywords, smart albums, face detection?

    greetings,
i have some questions about iOS photos app in comparison to iPhoto (in 10.8).  i've done a little searching on the web and in the forum, but didn't see this covered...
i always sync my iPhone to my mac, copy/import my photos to iPhoto, and use iPhoto to organize my photos.  in iPhoto, i tag photos (keywords) and use "smart albums" to access all my photos based upon the keyword tags.  face detection in iPhoto is GREAT!.   i have all my friends faces named and finding them by "people" grouping is fantastic.  the down side to all of this is that i have everything working great on my mac, but usually i'm using the photos app in the iPhone to show pics to my friends since that is what i have with me.  i'm not sure if this information in iPhoto ever gets synced back to my iPhone.
1- does the iOS photos app have any of these features from iPhoto?
in other words, can i tag photos, lable the faces of friends, set up smart albums in iOS photos?  if so, please point me to some info.  i haven't seen an obvious way to do any of this.
2- can i sync what i do in iPhoto back to my iPhone?
in other words, can i get the tags, peoples' names on their faces, and smart albums copied from iPhotos back to my iPhone?  is there some setting or command in iPhoto, or somewhere else?
3- i just turned on photostream.  can/does this iPhoto data transfer via photostream to the iPhone?
    i have an iPhone 4.
i am just about ready to upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6.  so if any of these features are specific to iOS 6, please let me know.
i'd appreciate it if you could mention if there is anything special about iOS in the iPad, because a friend has asked me how she can do in her iPad (iOS 6), what i do with iPhoto in my mac.
thank you for any suggestions or advice.

After I updated to IOS 8.3 my photo albums on my ipad are all disorganized AGAIN!!  This happens every time there is an update.

After updating to IOS 8.3 last night (4/9), my selected albums I want on my iPhone are there, but it added a bunch of others that shouldn't be. It seems to have created albums using photos from the selected albums I already had, so now I have more photos mostly duplicates & more albums. Those additional albums don't match the photos that are to be in them. Weird. Apple please fix this pronto!!
