IOS Security Msg On AIR 3.7

Hi,
I am using the new 3.7 SDK with my mobile Flex application, and have a situation where my externally loaded swf is generating mysterious messages in the debugger console. The mobile app downloads and caches swf files from a server, then loads them on an as needed basis, and unloads them when the Flex View is discarded. The swf files contain no AS3 code, but some of the symbol instances on stage have been assigned names if that matters. When I load these swf files and turn on/off the named symbols on stage by setting their visibility property to true/false, the app spits out these trace messages in the debugger console when I debug on the device:
[trace] IDS_CONSOLE_SANDBOX
[trace] IDS_CONSOLE_SECURITY_CONTEXT
These are listed in the console as trace statements, but I have not coded these anywhere. Everything works as expected and there are no errors in the app. So my question is, what could be causing this, and could these messages cause an App Store rejection?

It seems I have a security sandbox violation error at runtime, and it seems there is no way to correctly fix this because of AIR's rule that it cannot load any swf into it's security sandbox. The docs for LoaderContext say: "Content in the air application security sandbox cannot load content from other sandboxes into its SecurityDomain."
It would seem that in my LoaderContext object that I pass to the Loader object to load the external swf that I could set the security domain property to the security domain of the AIR app, but that does not work at all and throws a security error and program halt. So is this a limitation of AIR or is there a correct way to load an external swf and manipulate it's movieclips on stage?

ITunes no longer syncs to iPhone or iPad after iOS security update

I did the iOS security update on my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air. Now, iTunes will not sync with either device - neither one. In both cases, I get the error message "iPhone5 (or iPad) can not be synced. An unknown error occured (1140)."
I then did the iTunes update that just came out - still the same problem.
The Mac is a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 7 running OSX 10.7.5. Everything worked fine before the iOS security update.
What is going on? What to do?

Finally, I had time to do a on-line support session with the Apple Care help people (excellent). We went through and verified a lot of things. Finally, he had me run the disk utility and run "repair disk permissions". That resolved things and it works now.
Also related is that the iOS 7.1 update installed a lot of stuff on the iPhone - including iMovie, Numbers, Pages, Keynotes - stuff that I will use on the iPad but not on the iPhone. The result of automatically installing all these things on the iPhone was to but it way over the limit on memory. I deselected thos apps (and a few others) plus some movies and am now below the memory limit on the iPhone.
Things are now working well with both the iPhone and iPad - both syncing correctly. So, with that, I will close out this case.

Branch office setup with L3 switch and router with IOS security

Hello,
I am in the process of putting together a small branch office network and I am in need of some design advise. The network will support about 10-15 workstations/phones, 3-4 printers, and 4-5 servers. In addition we will eventually have up to 25-30 remote users connecting to the servers via remote access VPN, and there will also be 2-3 site-to-site IPSec tunnels to reach other branches.
I have a 2911 (security bundle) router and 3560 IP Base L3 switch to work with. I have attached a basic diagram of my topology. My initial design plan for the network was to setup separate VLANs for workstation, phone, printer, and server traffic. The 3560 would then be setup with SVIs to perform routing between VLANs. The port between the router and switch would be setup as a routed port, and static routes would be applied on the switch and router as necessary. The thought behind this was that I'd be utilizing the switch backplane for VLAN routing instead instead of doing router-on-a-stick.
Since there is no firewall between the switch and router my plan was to setup IOS firewalling on the router. From what I am reading ZBF is my best option for this. What I was hoping for was a way to set custom policies for each VLAN, but it seems that zones are applied per interface. Since the interface between the router and switch is a routed interface, not a trunk/subinterface(s), it doesn't seem like there would be a way for me to use ZBF to control traffic on different VLANs. From what I am gathering I would have to group all of my internal network into one zone, or I would have to scrap L3 switching all together and do router-on-a-stick if I want to be able to set separate policies for each VLAN. Am I correct in my thinking here?
I guess what I am getting at is that I really don't want to do router-on-a-stick if I have a nice switch backplane to do all of the internal routing. At the same time I obviously need some kind of firewalling done on the router, and since different VLANs have different security requirements the firewalling needs to be fairly granular.
If I am indeed correct in the above thinking what would be the best solution for my scenario? That is, how can I setup this network so that I am utilizing the switch to do L3 routing while also leveraging the firewall capabilities of IOS security?

1. I agree, since I have only three to four printers, they need not be in a separate VLAN. I simply was compartmentalizing VLANs by function when I initially came up with the design.
2. Here's a little more info on the phone situation. The phones are VoIP. The IP PBX is on premise, but they are currently on a completely separate ISP/network. The goal in the future is to converge the data and voice networks and setup PBR/route maps to route voice traffic out the voice ISP and data traffic out the other ISP. This leads up to #3.
3. The reason a router was purchased over a firewall was that ASA's cannot handle routing and dual ISPs very well. PBR is not supported at all on an ASA, and dual ISPs can only be setup in an active/standby state. Also, an ASA Sec+ does not have near the VPN capabilities that the 2911 security does. The ASA Sec+ would support only 25 concurrent IPSec connections while the 2911 security is capable of doing an upwards of 200 IPSec connections.
Your point about moving the SVI's to a firewall to perform filtering between VLANs makes sense, however, wouldn't this be the same thing as creating subinterfaces on a router? In both cases you are moving routing from the switch backplane to the firewall/routing device, which is what I am trying to avoid.

Have you tried to reset it? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if that helps.
You may need to restore your iPad. That's where you back it up, then restore it to factory defaults, then put your backup back on so you don't lose any data. Sometimes a fresh start clears out any glitches and can help.

Setting up FB4.5 iOS Packager to use AIR 2.7

I'd like to update my Flash Builder so that the mobile packager for Android and iOS uses the new AIR 2.7 SDK.
How do I do this?
I've downloaded the AIR 2.7 SDK, but the instructions say I should use the command line - but I'd like it integrated into my version of FB4.5.
Please advise.

I found a way to use the emulator for iOS (and possibly package) :
Copy the Flash Builder 4.5\sdks\4.5.0 folder to an other place. Overwrite the content of that copy with the AIR sdk.
You will now be able to compile and use the IOS emulator in command line (be sure that ADT and ADL are in the path variable).
Your command line will look like this :
adl -runtime "COPY_FOLDER\runtimes\air\win" -profile mobileDevice -screensize 700x862:700x900 -XscreenDPI 72 -XversionPlatform IOS FULL_APP.XML_PATH FULL_PROJECT_bin-debug_PATH
I didn't try the packager for now cause I don't have a valid iOS certificate, but you will have to use adt instead of ADL and export your project to the AIRI format.
I hope Adobe will simplify the process SOON....

It totally depends. The servers are getting slammed. Bunch of people trying to download at the same time.
Anecdotally, it took me about 20 minutes.
Give it time, keep trying, should eventually work.
Ways you can maybe speed it up - use iTunes, get off wifi and do a hard connection via ethernet.

Wireless security for iPad Air in the UK

I need to secure my iPad Air while using Hot Spots in the UK. I have seen downloads for VPN but not sure of how they would work while traveling. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess that Microsoft has either chosen not to release it in the UK or has some licensing issues preventing them from doing so.

I updated my iPad OTA in my office at work and lost nothing at all. However, I did backup and sync with iTunes in the morning at home, in case something went bad.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

After upgrade to IOS 8.3 iPad Air no longer connects to iTunes

Today I upgraded my Macbook Air to Yosemite 10.3 and my iPad Air to IOS 8.3
After upgrading the iPad I was asked to connect it via cable to iTunes in order to allow for wireless sync.
When plugging the cable in, the iPad starts sending endless alert beeps and the top line of the screen is shaking. On iTunes the error message "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected." appears with every alert beep from the iPAD. No matter how often the OK button is pressed, the message appears rightaway again.
I made a full backup of the iPad Air before upgrading to IOS 8.3 but I am very reluctant to reset the iPad as the same error might come up when connecting the iPad after reset to iTunes and then I would not be able to restore it at all.
Does anyone had a similar experience and/or is there any known workaround?

Thanks for your further consideration, much apreciated. I tried a different cable, different port and did reboot and soft reset. I also did reset of settings on iPad, just in case.
As I can with no problems use the same USB cable and USB port with my iPhone to connect to iTunes, the issue must be somewhat with the iPad Air and iTunes on my Macbook Air. I also can connect the iPad with the same USB Cable to iTunes on a different Macbook with no issues.
I think, best is to do a full backup on a different machine and then setting back the iPad to initial state, followed by a restore.
This I can (hopefully successfully) do with iTunes on a different Macbook.

IPhone iOS 7 and Macbook Air Mavericks, deleting hotmail emails to POP folder! Help!

I have an iPhone using the iOS 7 and a Macbook Air using Mavericks (although I'm not sure how relevant this is) and both are set up to receive and send emails to my hotmail account.. Every so often (I think a month or so) I check my emails on either device to find that my hotmail emails have been deleted from my device. When I then log on to hotmail's website, they have been moved to a POP folder, so I then have to move my emails to my inbox and the phone and macbook start receiving them again, very strange! I assume somewhere the settings are wrong, on either my macbook or phone (or possibly hotmail itself). If you have any ideas, please help me, it's getting very annoying!

Ios security - encryption - where is it?

hi all,
     I read reports and apple's statements saying ios 8 is so secure and encrypted that law enforcement find it difficult to crack it. I used my iphone 6 with ios 8.1.1 on ubuntu linux and also windows 7 with ifunbox.
    It doesn't matter if the phone is locked prior to this or not. The entire filesystem is accessible. I can see pictures, apps, ebooks, podcasts, safari data, itunes purchases, voice recordings, icloud sharing data directly. The files can be opened and viewed, there's no encryption for any of the things I mentioned, even if the phone was locked.
   This works even for ios 6 - 8, with iphone 4s, iphone 5 and iphone 5s and iphone 6. I can't located emails, imessages and contacts as yet, but maybe by digging more into the filesystem, you could find those.
   So my question is - what exactly are people who are against ios encryption complaining about? But more importantly, what does apple mean when it says that it's implemented a high level of security with system wide encryption?

sure, but how is it relevant that its "my computer"? Maybe in windows, but there's no itunes trust in linux. the phone is locked and I didn't click "trust this computer" when I connected using linux.
so effectively its anyone's computer.

My PDFs disappeared from iBooks after upgrading to iOS 8 on iPad Air

I've just upgraded my iPad air to iOS 8, via iTunes, and restore process. I had a fresh backup, so my iPad has all on it just as before except my PDFs in iBooks. There are just the purcheses in it. Is there any way to get my files back?

All; I had the same exact issue and there is a quick remedy for this which I'll outline below. Even the Senior level tech at Apple was unaware of this and I figured it out myself.
Once your iPhone is connected to iTunes and docked to your Mac, you'll note that there exists a tab, 2nd from right in iTunes 11.4 named 'Books.'
Select this tab and you'll note all of your purchased books and PDF's you've previously chosen to reside in iBooks app on iOS devices are displayed as a mirror image of what actually resides in your iBooks App that by default should result in your doc on the Mac. You must SELECT all or check individually each respective book or PDF document that you wish to sync with and reside on your iOS device.
Just as is the case with Music or Photos you may elect to manage your library of books and apps MANUALLY. In my case there are certain apps I know I want on my iPhone; conversely, there are apps I want to reside ONLY on my iPad and NOT on my iPhone 6. So this is how you control and manage this aspect of the "iBooks" app or program . It's easy!
