IPad 2 64GB (White) Backlight Bleeding

Hi all, I just received my iPad 2, but I noticed near the home button when I view black photo/web brosing I noticed a "Backlight Bleeding" on my iPad 2.
Is this consider damanage?

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, restore your iPad >  iTunes: Restoring iOS software
Otherwise, take your iPad in for service >  Apple - Find Locations

  • IPad Air with backlight bleeding

My iPad Air offers some degree of bleeding of the backlight of the screen.
    See: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ra0vhxzh5sfswha/Backlight.pdf
Is this acceptable? The defect may worsen over time? Should I request a repair?

    Hi thiagueirass,
It looks like you are having issues on your iPad with uneven display backlighting. You may want to follow the steps in this article that relate to the display. Note that the article is mostly about iPhones but for this issue the steps are the same -
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    In particular -
    Display image issues
This can include bright or dark pixels, lines in video, or sections of video missing.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaper and slide the slider.
    and the last step -
    Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

Bit more info please. Connect to iTunes on your Pc/Mac click on your icon and confirm your memory usage in the Capacity bar at the bottom of the Summary page.  Try also unticking some Apps you use less frequently in the Apps section in you iPad's pages in iTunes on your pc/mac, sync afterwards to clear them off your pad then try downloading again.

  • Frequency of iPAD Backlight Bleeding

    Dears,
Just i like to know the frequency of iPAD backlight bleeding, is this a common problem in all iPADs where can i find bleeding around the screen corners (to look bright than the other areas)
and is there any solution to fix this problem ?
    Thanks

I've never seen it on my iPad or the iPads I played with at BestBuy and Apple. It also doesn't come up that often on these forums.
If the standard troubleshooting in the manual doesn't correct your issue, the next step is a trip to the Genius Bar.

  • IPad 2 'backlight bleed'?

We have three iPad's in the family, two iPad 2's and one iPad.  My iPad 2, which I have had since last August, has a fairly bright and noticeable light shining in from the left hand edge of the display.  This is what I would call 'backlight bleed'.
Is this a known issue and, if so, given the amount of money I paid for it, I don't want it repaired so I entitled to have it replaced under warranty?

    Hi
    Thank you for your response.
I'll have a look at the thread you included and see how my iPad 2 compares but, what I would like is a black or reasonably dark wallpaper to check out if there are any other parts of the display which also have this issue.
Any suggestions on where I could find such a wallpaper?
It's too early to say about what I'd like to do but I would certainly not accept any repair and I'm sure Apple Support would be very understanding, especially as the iPad 2 is only just 4 months old?

  • Planning to Buy iPad-3 concerned about Backlight Bleeding issue !

    Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy the iPad-3, BUt with so many issues of Backlight Bleeding issues popping up. It looks a Rampant issue. Do you guys think I should wait some days before the First Batch of Munfacturing is sold out. Maybe once the Second Batch of production hits the stores this problem would not be there. But at the moment looks like Early Production and the Hasty process to get the Products out on Launch day and ready for delivery could have been the reason these issues slipped out of Quality Control. Do I wait like a month or so? I can do that, will waiting a month help ? I hope I dont get it in my iPad. I dont wanna go through the hassles of exchanging and stuff I would rather wait and buy a little late than go through these issues.
    Cheers !
    Augustya

Augustya, you are always free to wait until another round of hardware becomes available if you are concerned about problems people are having.
I would point out, though, that the discussion group is often looked at as an emergency room in a hostpital...you see only problems because no one healthy goes there.  You can get a false sense of the magnitude of problems if you only look at the number of complaints showing up here.
On the news last night they said Apple sold over 3 million iPads last weekend...the couple dozen problems brought up on here is insignificant out of 3 million items.  Another way of looking at the magnitude of the problem.
So if you have the ability to buy now, you can always go to the store, Apple if that is what you have available, open the iPad there, check it out (they come charged) and see if there is a light bleed problem.  If so complain on the spot and ask for a different unit.
Or wait for another round to be manufactured...just do what you are most comfortable doing.

  • Dark backlight bleeding on ipad mini?

  • Backlight bleeding on IPad 3

    Hello everyone,
I be just noticed that my new iPad 3 has a backlight bleeding on theright corner bottom ... Is anyone experience the same problem ? Should I ask a replacement ?
    Thanks

You may want to check this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2779476?start=0&tstart=0 for more information on the iPad history and light leakage.
You could exchange it. I would if it was bothering me.

  • X220 still suffers "Backlight Bleed" ?? How about the X230 ??

I have sent mine in for repair. It was leaking light from atleast 6 places on the bottom. It also recently had a white dot (not pixels, more like bleed) appear on the right side of the screen.
Any chance they will actually do something ? I am hearing that they just ship them back without even fixing anything.
Also, what is with all the "this is normal, its just you"....
The ipad 2 had the same backlight bleed issue and it was LG's fault.
Anyone who had the issue was able to get as many exchanges from an apple store until the problem was fixed.
Now I pad $1000 for this laptop, MUCH MORE than an iPad 2. Not to mention it has a LOWER RESOLUTION.
This light bleeding issue is unacceptable. Excuses are also unacceptable.
So someone please answer. Has Lenovo fixed this light bleed issue ???

White dots / blotchly spots have become a normal feature of modern laptop screens. I don't know anyone with a screen over a year old that doesn't have one or more of these, regardless of vendor. However, Lenovo has a decent track record of fixing them as long as you have the accidental damage protection. Without the adp, its possible it'll be classified as "user damage" or some such thing, and then you have to deal with that hassle to have it replaced.

  • Another iPad2 "light leak" "backlight bleeding" "yellowing spots" thread!

I bought the iPad 2, White, 64g WIFI-only, at a Target. As soon as I turned it on, I immediately noticed a yellowish bleeding light from the edge of the display on the bottom right.
Today, I went to an Apple store and showed it to a Genius, who was "shocked" to see it when he took is to a dark room in the back and replaced it with an unopened one.
So I took it home, and guess what happened next? It was WORSE! It had light leaks, backlight bleeding, and yellow spots all over the screen! I drove back to the Apple store and found my Genius who was surprised to see me. He immediately took it the back room and confirmed the issue, yet again. So he gave me a new one.
Guess what happened next. Yup, same problem, not as bad as the 2nd one, about the same as the 1st one I bought from Target. So I went back to the Apple store, and couldn't find my original Genius. A guy called "Scotty" told me that they "ran out" and that I would have to call back on Monday and can "...reserve one if they receive a shipment, because it's an exchange."
I wonder if it's a "white iPad" issue. Some folks online with a black iPad seem to be reporting an issue.
This is quite annoying and cannot wait to get a replacement. I was at the Apple store for 3 hours today. Blah!

I am now on my 4th iPad returned and exchanged.
This time I asked for a black one to replace my white one - which I justified as "maybe this is a white issue, not a black issue, as some people report." That seemed to convince them.
So now I have a black one, which is the color I actually originally wanted anyway. My brother, who is thousands of miles away, told me his black iPad has no leaking whatsoever, which made me think I should try to the black as well.
Guess what, the Black is ALSO affected. No change. I'm tired of going to Apple store at this point. I'll just wait for a few months and exchange this stupid thing. I cant really say I didn't try. And I can't really say Apple Genius guys didn't try either.

  • Backlight bleeding

I just bought my iPad 2 about early or mid August. I have just noticed some backlight bleeding from the edges of the screen. It is very minor but I was doing some reading online, and many people said this was a common problem and it wasn't worth trying to exchange for a new one. But the most recent posts I have found were from late 2011/early 2012. I'm wondering if this problem has been fixed yet and if it would be worth exchanging for a new iPad?

All 3 iPads I've purchased have backlight bleeding. Of the 3 only 2 were really tolerable/acceptable. Mine was not. I had a serious flashlight bleeding from under the bezel to the right of the home button. It was clearly evident at 50% brightness Auto On in a well lighted room. I called Apple Care and was next day air shipped what appears to be a brand new replacement in a plain brown box. The box did not contain a retail box - only a packaged iPad and instructions/materials for returning my original. The replacement iPad, like the others, has what I would call minimal backlight bleeding so I will keep it. Also of note, my replacement iPad also has a brilliant white/bluish (very cool temperature color) panel as opposed to my original which had an overall yellowish tint to it. The replacement was hassle-free and blazingly fast.
All iPad 2s seem to suffer from backlight bleeding for whatever reason. Perhaps due to overall slim design, lack of clips for securing glass & panel, etc. I don't believe there
will be an iPad 2 that doesn't suffer from this unless something is
changed in production. Search out this problem on Macrumors.com and there are several posts with pictures of effected panels. My advice would be to exchange an unacceptable unit for a new one however temper your expectations with the knowledge that no panel will be perfect.

  • Ipad air back Light Bleeding Normal

Hey  so I recently got an iPad Air and so far I love it is amazing and since I am a designer it has allowed to show my work very well.  Recently I got some eye surgery and something I have notice that I am far more sensitive to light and can detect sudden things that before I would have just ignore. I was in my dorm watching a movie on Netflix and I started to notice that there was a “glow” in the  left side of the display; I changed to YouTube and even my own videos and that glow  persisted. After some research I came to the conclusions that it was backlight bleeding, though I believe that  it is not as bad as some of the images as I saw on the internet, it is some thing that many IPS LCD LED suffer from. Is my display in the normal a acceptable range or should I get it changed ???
    Thanks

Try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait until your iPad starts on it's own.

  • Backlight bleed on iMac 27"

    I don't understand this.
Why is it that every iMac 27" has this stupid light bloom from the bottom right hand corner? It is incredibly distracting.
Having had several replacements for flickering and other problems, I can tell you that backlight bleed on these machines is very variable. But every time, there's this distracting white light off to the right and it is ******* me off.
After nearly three months of ******** with these machines, I'm asking for my money back.

Thanks for informing us on your decision.

  • Can someone post a pic of a new iPad with no light bleeding

If you have an iPad with no light bleeding can you post a pic. I don't believe they exist

I have it but not horribly. I have resigned myself to wait until the mad rush for the iPad2 is over and see how they resolve the issue. Reminds me of the iPhone4 camera problem with white balance. Eventually they solved it. At that point I took mine (iPhone) back (several months later)and they still replaced it without questions. I am suspecting they will do the same with the iPads.

  • Anyone NOT having the backlight bleeding?

I'm looking to buy an iPad 2 and would like to get some idea how common the backlight bleeding problem is that some users have reported.
If you don't have the problem, can you let us know?
    Thanks

The ways the iPad was manufactured was different to the iPhone 4 and the issue did happen in the US before it was available in AUS. People in Aus who wanted an iPad on release should have known about this.
A light leak is pretty much a confirmed Hardeware issue and can be replaced by the point of purchase or a restail store/mailing exchange. (I called Apple Tech for options)
Thing is the factory that made the iPad 2 batteries was about 500m from the Fukoshima Plant in Japan so the batteries are either waterlogged or radioactive. Once the factory is up and running again or another factory starts making them then the Retail Store will be able to replace the iPads.
