IPad 2 Safari screen greyed and unresponsive

Safari screen greyed and unresponsive have cleared I think it happens when too many windows are open. Solved it once by reinstalling is there a less drastic solution?

The "sleep" button is the same as the on/off button.
The Home button is the button that returns you to the App screens. (Center of bezel on narrow edge of iPad).
Restart: Press the On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, to restart press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).

Why is my IPod screen grey and won't turn off using restart button?

as to why its gray, its either a glitch or something else. you need to turn it off and plug it into itunes and restore it. then sync it.

  • The tabs icon in Safari is grey and inactive

The tabs icon in Safari is grey and inactive. How can I activate it?

    That did not help :-(
First it looked like it was ok, but when I clicked the +, then it just shut down Safari.
Then I started safari again and the + was grey and inactive again.

  • Ipad Safari screen is tinted in grey appears to be stuck? Cannot search?

I have an Ipad 1. When I go to Safari my screen is grey and it appears to be stuck?  I just reset my network connection and it seemed to fix the problem.  What hapened?

In the future, try tapping Settings / Safari. Clear the History, Cookies, and Cache.
    Restart your iPad.
Press and hold the sleep/wake button until you see the red slider then swipe to power off. Then press and hold the sleep / wake button until you see the Apple logo.
If that doesn't help, reset network settings.
There may have been an interruption with your Wi-Fi.

  • Ipad apps are greyed and say waiting, but can open them from app button

The apps were reloaded after the ipad was reset, but only about 1/3 loaded. The rest are grey, and say "waiting" under them. In the app icon, they all show up as loaded, and can be opened, but from the home screen, nothing happens when the app is tapped.

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • The text on my iMac, MacBook Pro and iPad are light grey and difficult to read

I have the latest upgrades of OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 on my iMac, MacBook Pro and iPad Air 2. To my dismay, the text on all three computers is light grey and difficult to read. I tried to increase the contrast and also reduce the transparency, but to no avail. It is still difficult to read the text. What do I do?

Send feedback to Apple about their poor design choices. That's all I can think of, since this is the new, modern, minimalist, gray, and drab crapola Apple's foisting on computer users.

  • Why is Safari becoming slow and unresponsive?

Ok - I have exactly the same problem.  I can run safari and use it.  After a short while it becomes slow and unresponsive.  When I quit I get the rainbow ball of death and the only way I can stop the application is to force quit.
It is definitely linked to a particular network account as the guest account check above shows that it runs fine on another account.
As I watch system memory in actvity monitor while I use safari the fhe following occurs:
    1.     free memory gets gradually used up to about 50%
    2.     Inactive memory gradually builds to about 50% of total
    3.     Then page in and page outs build massively and the swap file goes into overdrive
I have 32GB memory on board but even so it doesn't take long for Safari to gobble it up.
At the same time CPU % shows 90-100% and Real Mem sits around 15-18GB.
By this stage the whole machine is slow and unresponsive as safari ***** up all its processor and memory resources.
I have taken the following action:
    1.     reset safari using the reset process built into the app - no difference
    2.     deleted the preferences file - no difference
    3.     deleted the Library/cache file - no difference
Thought about resetting NVRAM but decided that it wouldn't make much difference because it seems to be linked to a user.
Any thoughts/suggestions on other actions I can take would be welcome.
Are there other cache or preference files that I should be trashing.  Can I delete and reinstall safari?  I don't really want to have to go through the process of establishing a new user and rebuilding a reasonably substantial docs and photo library and set up.
    Help.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

You forgot to mention what version of Safari you have, but:
If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

  • 3/4 screen grey and 1/4 white

Picked up my MacAir today.  The hinge had to be replaced. My computer is out of warranty, but they replaced it at no charge.
Turned laptop on when I got home, and the screen is vertically 3/4 grey and 1/4 grey.
Have to go back to Apple store that is over one hour drive tomorrow morning.
Did not turn on my MacAir when I picked up - huge mistake.   Apple Tech said there was a an internal crack in the screen! It would cost $700 to replace.
Any idea what is happening. Want to understand this situation when I go back to Apple store.

Thought you might like an update.
Apple store was able to track (all those service notes) the fact that our computer was funcitoning when it left the store. It arrived at the repair depot with a sizeable crack in the screen.  It has been determined this was damage caused in transit. Apple will repair without cost to us.
Interesting aside...when the computer arrived at the depot we got a call that there was a crack in the screen, and it would cost $700 to replace the screen.  We declined as it was just too expensive a repair!

  • Are iPad Safari's Cookies And Website Data The Same Thing?

Are they the same, and do they collect indefinitely until you manually clear them?

    Sheden-
It is not clear if they are the same thing, but I do not believe so.  There are two places to manually delete Data:
    1.  Settings - Safari - Clear Cookies and Data
    2.  Settings - Safari - Advanced - Website Data - Remove All Website Data
I tried clearing Cookies and Data, and the data previously listed under "Website Data" went away.  When I tried just "Remove All Website Data", it went away again.  I can not tell if Cookies also went away since I do not know how to examine them.
After clearing the website data, images on a facebook page had to reload when I revisited it.  Normally they come up immediately.  I know the images are definitely not "Cookies"!
As far as I kinow, website data collects indefinitely.  I suggest you search the web for information about Cookies, to see if they have a limited lifetime.

  • When Syncing, my iPad switches screen off and syncing stops

I have the new ipad, and upon syncing, the ipad screen will turn off after a few minutes but the iTunes can't recognizes the iPad anymore. It says "Waiting" but then when I switch the screen back on, the syncing stops.
Its never happened to my original ipad so did I set something wrong?

How long is the waiting? Are you interrupting the processes by switching the screen back on?
Temporarily change the Auotlock to NEVER (Settings, General, Autolock).
Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

I've noticed this message from you several times, John. Often in cases like this where there is a possibility that another user has had the exact same problem, and thus might have an answer.
I suggest that you shorten your message to "You may need to contact Adobe for help, and the following two lines" which will seem less naggy.

Siince updating to 8.0.2 from 8.0 my iPad has not been the same. Can I delete both of these updates?

  • Jittery and unresponsive iPad Mini

IPad Mini has jittery and unresponsive screen on some aps. Reset doesn't fix the problem. This started happening after the latest update was installed.

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
