IPad and encrypted dmg directory

Hi
I just built an encrypted document directory on my Mac (so the result is a .dmg file), and I have put it on a remote Linux server to have backup in case something happens to my Mac. Is there a way from my iPad to get access to the content of this .dmg file on my remote server?
1) by downloading it and then read the content in the iPad? (I would hate that because it would take a while)
2) or by remotely accessing to it? (a kind of remote mount to get access to my files)
Would it be possible to create an app talking the second proposal?
Thanks

When creating an encrypted .dmg - at what point in the process can you determine the size of the initial image so that it will accommodate future additional files?
At the very beginning When you click New Image in the disk utility. You can choose the volume size.
Just make it large enough.
You can always create a new, larger encrypted image later and move everything into it.
Please keep it simple ... and thanks in advance.

  • I have a ipad and i can open a dmg file?

I cant seem to open a dmg file in any of the apps i have on my ipad and i am not very good with technology so i dont know what to do?? Please help!

Unsealer would appear to be a program (the .dmg file) that needs to be run on a Mac.  What it does I've no idea other than to access 'sealed content' which I found from a quick Google search.
Bottom line... you can not access .dmg files on an iPad.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • Mount encrypted DMG and share as a shared filesystem over afp

I am trying to share the hfs+ filesystem that resides on an encrypted .dmg file.   When trying to share the filesystem the only one that can mount this system is the person that mounted it on the localsytem.   Is there a limitation on mounting .dmg and sharing the filesystem or is there a trick that i don't know.   The end result should be a work group with an encrypted share.
    Thanks

Try creating a disk image on your Desktop. If you have the same problem with it, do as follows.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I have several manuals in PDF format. How do I download them into my iPad and view them?

I have several manuals in PDF format. How do I download them into my iPad and view them? I downloaded a PDF viewer on my iPad and via itunes I can download the PDF to the iPad although for some reason the iPad comes up as 'RmoteTV' with a sub-directory of 'Books'. The 'PDFReader' app doesn't seem to find the file.

You can use the free iBooks to read PDF files. Download the app, use itunes to transfer the data then open the PDFs.
There are other pdf readers as well. I see good reader recommended and I'm sure there are more.

  • How do I get an encrypted dmg on a network share to automatically mount at login?

I need to mount an encrypted dmg that is stored on an SMB share to automatically mount at login.  I've got the SMB share to mount at login as a "Login Item," but I can't get the encrypted dmg to mount.
    A related question:
I've got a shell script that mounts my encrypted image, copies data using rsync, and then unmounts the encrypted image.  I tried automating this using a cronjob, but cronjobs are nut run as $USER.  Since the cronjob isn't run as $USER, the cronjob does not have access to the $USER's keychain and cannot authenticate to the encrypted dmg.  Any tips on getting either of these to work?

I don't use SMB so I'm not sure whether this will work, but try it. Open a TextEdit window and type something like this:
    smb://user:password@server/path-to-file
Make the obvious substitutions in the text, then select it and drag it to the Desktop. You should get a bookmark file. Double-click it to test. If it works, you can rename the file and put it anywhere you like. Add it to your login items.
If the above doesn't work, try again with "cifs" in place of "smb".
The "user:password@" part may not be necessary if the password is in your keychain.

  • I have Photoshop for the IPad and my file won't load, can anyone help?

I have the iOS app for adobe Photoshop and I stopped working on my project for a bit, went back to access it (I did save before hand) and it won't load, the loading animation is all that shows and nothing else. It's been doing this for 30 minutes or so. I've tried refreshing, shutting the app and turning it on, shutting off my iPad and turning it on again and nothing.

We don't deal with IOS applications in this forum at all, only with Photoshop proper for Mac and for Windows.
Are you on something like  Adobe Photoshop Touch for tablet?
Try finding the forum for whatever your application is on the forums/community directory:

  • I am on an iPad and can't tex my mates as it says that they are not registered and I know they are. I am in Australia and they are in Canada. Please help

I thought it was an issue between my son and I but I just tried someone else and it also doesn't work. So???PLEASE HELP!! Thank You. I am using the latest iPad - the 3? And aim trying to contact iPhone 3 users and iPod users.

At this point, I would go for reset to its factory default condition, using the iTunes program to get a clean system install. That way you'll clean everything out and just have it set up the way it would come from the factory. You'll need to do your backup (on the iTunes program too) and be sure you understand which stuff will be saved and which will not (from the links below). Also turn off any anti-virus program you may have on your desktop. Then when you reset it to the factory default condition, don't restore your backup just yet ... until you check it out without your data put back on it. Verify its operation first, to make sure that you know it's okay. Hopefully everything is okay at that point, otherwise you'll have to take it into Apple to check it out for any hardware failure.

  • Backing up ipad when encryption is set

I have an iPad with encryption set on the backups in iTunes and the password is not known. I am not bothered about the old backup - they are not needed and I do not want to access the content of the old backups.  To my mind the password is not therefore of any use or relevance.
What I want to know is can I start making new backups that are unencypted? If so how?
I own and have full access to the iPad, and there seems (to me at any rate) to be no reason why I can't make new backups that are capable of being restored, without knowing the old password. If not it is very poor show, but what alternative backup tools are there to achieve this task?
Will wiping the iPad and putting back the apps achieve this goal?
    Thanks
    El KAy

    Hello ElKayUk,
If the backup password is forgotten, you are correct that a restore will be needed to create normal non encrypted, or even new encrpted backups. Take a look at this info:
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
Make sure that the password you use is one that you'll remember. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you won't be able to restore from backup, and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and choose set up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Problem to import clips video with "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader", my mini ipad and my camcorder?

I need import immediatly my clips video from my camcorder in my mini ipad with my SD card.
Solution: I have to use "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader"
Problem: When i insert my Sd card in the "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader", my mini ipad don't recognize the sd card... And i'm sure the format of clips video is accepted by ipad (specs).
I know why my mini ipad don't recognize the sd card... Because the directory where my camcorder put the clips video on the SD card is not accepted by  "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader". After some research, this device accept only the video in "DCIM" directory.
So my question: WHO KNOW WHICH CAMCORDER CAN BE ACCEPTED BY  "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader" WITH CORRECT VIDEO FORMAT (SPECS) AND CORRECT WRITING DIRECTORY "DCIM"?
    Thanx for your help!!!!!

Since the ipad is not a computer it cannot be expected to behave as such. The resources are limited  and so are the capabilities. Some things will work just fine but others will not. You have to be  willing to make some compromises and accept some of the limitations, otherwise you will end up being frustrated. Maybe another device will better suite your needs.

  • I'm taking pictures with iPad and tying to share on face book and its saying error in need 4mg or jpf files what do I need to change

I'm taking pictures with my iPad and trying to upload on Facebook and its a error saying i need a smaller then 4mp or j? Something file. I just uploaded pictures last week what happened and ow do I I'd this any clues? Thanks

Lightning is a problem for you because it hooks into Thunderbird at a low level and you need a version compiled for the platform Thunderbird is running on. So you can't do the preferred solution, which is to put your whole profile in a shared folder and have both instances of Thunderbird reference the same profile. (Ditto for Enigmail). Lightning may become an integral part of Thunderbird in an upcoming release, at which point this limitation due to Lightning should disappear.
And if you can't use a shared profile, you can't set your Lightning, or your Address Book, to share a common set of files. Put another way, the linkage from Thunderbird to its address book files and calendar data is hard-coded, and not exposed where we can adjust it. :-(
The halfway house is to place your mail stores in a shared place, and use the Local Directory setting in each account's settings to connect to it. They don't need to be in the profile; what's more important in your case is that they are in a folder accessible to both operating systems.
Look in your profile; everything under Mail and ImapMail needs to be moved out to a shared folder. Note the entries in Thunderbird under Local Directory before you do this, and reconstruct those pathnames in Thunderbird, but adjusted to suit their new locations.
(You can see here that you need to make many adjustments, one per account, in each instance of Thunderbird, so it's a high-maintenance solution and this is why we don't recommend it when the alternative, moving the whole profile, is possible.)
I share address books and calendars between Thunderbirds on various computers (and my phone and tablet) by syncing to something in the cloud; Google Contacts and Google Calendar are my choices, using gContactSync and CalDav.
Having made the break myself some years ago, I'd recommend you break away from Windows. ;-)

  • Can't browse large encrypted DMG after Security Update on 10.7.5

Performed security update today to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). I have a 4.1 TB encrypted DMG that I can mount. Disk Utility says is in good condition, but when attempting to browse in a finder window or via any app except Terminal, the Finder or App will crash. Finder gets into a state of perpetual reloading and physical drive must be powered off, or machine restarted. Terminal app lets me browse through and access files on the mounted drive just fine, though iTunes was unable to read its library files upon startup.
Has anyone experienced this, and/or have a solution?

Not exactly true. Other encrypted DMG files work fine. I've tested up to 1.2 TB. I believe that as the Terminal can browse the file system and unix commands interact fine with the files this is not an issue with operating system, but rather a bug in the higher level software.

  • Our picture transfer from iphone, ipads and or Sony DSC-W150 camera ended when we changed int providers from xfinity to frontier. All attempts to troubleshoot have not corrected problem, HELP!!

Our picture transfer from iphone, ipads and or Sony DSC-W150 camera ended when we changed int providers from xfinity to frontier. All attempts to troubleshoot have not corrected problem. The only changes to the system that was functioning properly are Fios int service and router. All apple components are using the fios router. Can anyone Help get us up and running again? Thanks

How have you been making the physical connection from:
    iPhone
    iPads
    Sony DSC-W150 camera
    ...to your Mac?
If WiFi, have you changed the WiFi encryption method or WiFi password? If so, each device need the new information netered into it manually to get onto your "new" WiFi Network.
