IPad iBook Store discussions needed.

I'm developing an e-book for the new iPad. Apple however is mum on all details/policies for would-be private publishers. Before I can lay out the big bucks to a developer to process my children's book, I need to know Apple's policies of acceptance/publishing on the iBook Store.

I'm talking with a developer who will prepare it for ipad, and says he'll give me an .epub edition for no extra charge. However, I'm reluctant to do anything until Apple comes out with their rules of acceptance, and know for certain they are going to be open to new independent authors like me. Things aren't clear if they are really going to open to us outsiders, or if as one article suggests, Apple may clear out all small time epub books that are now applications in the app store as apps.
My guess is Apple isn't going to open the "rules" and the "floodgates" as Jobs said, until after the big publishing companies are already in and going. So no way to prepare now to be at front of the line when the ibook store opens. What do you think?

When I look at the iBook store on my iPhone the book is listed for $12.99 when I look at the iBook store on my iPad the price is $15.99. I, of course, would want to pay less. The lesser-cost version will work fine on your iPad.
As for the difference in cost, is it possible the price has changed since you first researched the book on your iPhone? Is is possible it's a different version, such as a multi-touch version of the same book?

How can i send emailed PDF's directly to my iPad iBooks rather than have them sitting in my inbox unorganized...

I had hoped that my PDF's in my iPhone iBooks would automatically also go to my iPad iBooks without the need for syncing. Is there some setting to make that happen?
If that is not an option, how can I send my emailed PDF's directly to my iPad iBooks; I no longer want them sitting in my email folder since there is no way to organize the content of the email folders and I am looking for a way to organize this information that I need to be able to quickly retrieve.

Thank you for your rapid reply! Yes, I was able to move them from my email to iBooks on my iPhone in this way, but the same method did not work for the iPad . I was really hoping for some super simple solution... thanks for your comment though

How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased books from the ibook store. The problem is, once I create a document in Pages and turn it into an ePub to be opened in iBooks, I delete the document in Pages, because I don't need two copies taking up space on my iPad. Before Maverick, iTunes would backup everything in my iBook app on my iPad. If something ever happened to my iPad, all of my created ePubs would be lost and I would be screwed. I suppose I could keep everything on Pages and go to iCloud and download my documents to my Mac, but that is a lot of steps. I may have to do that if there is no other way, but I am hoping someone will have the answer for me. Pretty disappointed in iBooks app for Mac at this point.

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

Whenever I launch the Newsstand or iBooks stores, either from the applications or from a download link online, the app crashes immediately.
The App Store and iTunes work fine.
Would appreciate any help with this!

NewsStand remains a non-functioning app on my iPad after trying the suggestions posted here. It's been some time now since this crashing feature was invoked. No resolution to date. A non-issue for Apple? Okay.
Maps used to be a feature demo app for me. Street View wowed everyone. Apple developers met and agreed that that wasn't cool and needed to be fixed. Now maps is painfully slow and shows my mother as being located offshore on an island in the Pacific. She lives in Vancouver. This is improvement? How did this notion even get out of the meeting room?
Developers everywhere seem bent on improving functionality to the point where it's just easier to grab a pencil and a piece of paper and get the job done.

As a native English speaker living in Holland I would prefer to be able to go the UK iBooks Store on my iPad. How do I get it to change from the Dutch language store to the UK one by default?

You can only use the store in the country where your iTunes account is based - so if you are in the Netherlands you can only use the Dutch stores. To be able to use the UK store you would need a valid address in the UK and be in the UK when purchasing. Have you tried other ebook apps/stores ?

Do I need to apply for copyright when I publish a book to the iBook store through iBooks Author?

I am about to publish a book to the iBook store through iBooks Author. Would I need to apply for some sort of copyright? I have no experience so please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you

Copyright is an important legal issue and certainly complex. But in general, a good place to start is registering your book with the Library of Congress. You can do it by mail, and they will grant you a Library of Congress control number which you can place on your copyright page. This will register your book as your copyright and is well worth checking out.
Though, and I'm not sure, but you may have to have an ISBN so some cost is involved.

I am unable to access the iBooks "store" from the iBooks app on my new ipad air. I have tried deleting the app and re-downloading. I have tried turning ipad off and restarting. Any ideas?

Sign out of your ID, close the iBooks app, reboot the iPad, sign in again, launch the app again and then try to access the store again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store. Tap your ID and sign out.
Close iBooks. Double tap the home button and find the iBooks app thumbnail on the screen. Swipe up on the app preview thumbnail to close it completely.
Reboot the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen and then let go of the buttons.
After the device completely restarts, go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store and sign in. Launch iBooks and then try to access the store again.

Hi I had a similar issue to you, I could connect to the router but no internet. Here is my explanation of how I sorted it.....I hope this works for you.
*To anyone that is reading this it appears that the problem lay in the airport setting: IPV6: set to 'Automatically'. I turned it off (after reading someones plight on MacFixIt) & everything is back to normal.*
*The worrying thing is although my problem was extreme with other computers on the network being locked out nothing was changed, one minute it worked the next it didn't. Reading on other forums it appears to be a problem with laptops (but I could be mistaken). A lot of people on the Macfixit forum are complaining of network just dropping out even when they are next to the router.*
*I hope this is the fix (although I dont know why it suddenly went to sh*t!) & I hope my hair pulling & trawling the forums can help someone else out.*

have you tried quiting the app, ie removing it from the multitasking bar also, and then retrying it? Failing that, flick the ipad into airplane mode for a minute, then flick it back, wait for your wifi to connect then try again.

Why won't the App, iTunes and iBooks stores load on iPad?

Every time I tap on iTunes, App and iBooks stores on my iPad, it hows all the spaces where images should be but the spinning grey icon dosnt go away and just does that (see below). I've tried quitting the app in multitasking and doing a full restore, nothing works.

I wish I had something else that you could try, but the only thing that I can suggest now is to go throught this website suggestions ... Can't connect to the iTunes Store.

This is the very basic stuff in the first article, but it can link you to a bunch of other websites that get much deeper into the issue. It seems like you have to have certain ports open in order to access the Apple Stores. I'm not sure if that's your issue or not, but there is a plethora of things to read and try.
Maybe somebody else has another idea.

Is your payment information up to date? Even free content requires your credit card info match with the banks info. The most common problem is an expired date or CVC number. the easiest fix it to choose "none" for payment info.

I was searching for a book that was only available in the US and my iBook store asked me if I wanted to visit the US store (thinking I could purchase it there) it converted my iBook frontend to US. When I went to purchase from the store I couldn't as I did not have a US account. Anyway, now I can't get my iBook store to return to the Australian store. I have checked settings>Itune & Apps store> Apple ID> Country/Region and it IS set to Australia. Is there any other ways to revert this?

Are you using a proxy or a VPN to connect to the internet? If you are, this is possibly the reason why. I suggest using anothe connection which is not a proxy.

Ipad app store no longer shows updates

ipad app store no longer shows updates. was working fine until a couple days ago - whwt can I do?

If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
1. Go to App Store
2. Select Purchased
3. Select All
4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.
