IPad physical education database app
I am a high school physical education teacher at a STEM school where every student has an iPad 2. I want to create a database where every student controls a database where the students use an iPad app to track their workouts and athletic goals. I have the app Bento but it does not generate reports which is necessary. The school cannot buy the app filemaker for all the students as it is too expensive. Can anyone recommend an app for managing this data?
Perhaps FileMaker Go along with the workstation version for the database development would work.

There are other database apps in the iTunes Store if Filemaker won't suit your needs. If your iPads will be cellular or otherwise regularly have access to WiFi, you could also build a web-accessed database, something which might make updates much more practical than sending out Excel spreadsheets to be imported on a bunch of devices. You could also host the database with FileMaker Server and access it across the Internet through FileMaker Go.

I am looking for a book database app to keep track of my physical books. I have used a Windows based application called BookBag plus but it looks like there won't be an iPhone version. I'm looking for an app that offers barcode scanning and a database that will work on my iPhone, iPad and PC (via the web) at the same time. I've looked at iBookshelf and Book Crawler and they seem OK but they don't seem to work on multiple devices. From what I can tell I will be able to transfer my existing database via a CSV file.

Problem in recover physical standby database(Data Guard) by rman

I have created a physical standby database ,I want make backup of it by rman and when I lose it's datafile I can restore it ,making backup and restore is fine but in recovery I encounter some problem
scenarios is follow
1- In rman I create a backup of standby database by this command:
backup database plus archivelog delete all input;
2- I run this comman in rman for recover standby database

5- if I just restore the database and I don't perform recovery by rman and I restart redo apply all thing seem fine
but in opening database I'll recieve ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/sari/system01.dbf' error)
do you know what is problem

I myself have found the solution , when I recover the standby database
it do recovery but at the end of recovery it raise the error(RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1
seq 118 lowscn 1392700) but if I begain redo apply before open the database
and I wait till all redo apply process start and communication between the
standby database and the primary database start, then I can
open the standby database and no error will raise
but if befor restarting redo apply I open the database I'll recieve the
ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/sari/system01.dbf' error

Physical standby database standby redo log problem
Hello
We have a physical standby database , I've created some standby redo log files but my problem is that they aren't used,
their status in v$stanby_log view is UNASSIGNED
and I see this message (ORA-16086: standby database does not contain available standby log files) in primary database alert_log file
while when I run "alter system switch logfile" in the primary database it transfer redo logs to the physsical standby database
and archive log file will be created in standby database
I've even recreated the standby redo log files and I added new ones to them but the problem wasn't solved
Do you know what is problem ?

Apply missing log on physical standby database
How to apply the missing log on physical standby database?
I already registered the missing log and started the recovery process.
Still...having log on standby that has status ..not applied.

ThanksNot much experience doing this, but according to the 9i doc (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96653/log_apply.htm#1017352), all you need is properly-configured FAL_CLIENT and FAL_SERVER initialization parameters, and things should take care of themselves automatically. Let us know if that doesn't work for you, we might be able to think of something else.

But i want to check data in physical standby database that there is consistant with primary database, there isn't? What method do I use? How to do?

Verifying the Physical Standby Database

Once you create the physical standby database and set up log transport services, you may want verify that database modifications are being successfully shipped from the primary database to the standby database.
To see the new archived redo logs that were received on the standby database, you should first identify the existing archived redo logs on the standby database, archive a few logs on the primary database, and then check the standby database again. The following steps show how to perform these tasks.
Step 1 Identify the existing archived redo logs.
On the standby database, query the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view to identify existing archived redo logs. For example:
SQL> SELECT SEQUENCE#, FIRST_TIME, NEXT_TIME
2 FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG ORDER BY SEQUENCE#;

Backups on Physical standby database?
I am using dataguard and a physical standby database.How to assign backups on physical standby database to reduce the load on Primary database.

Do i need to change the setting to backup archive logs from standby database? If i won't backup the archive logs on Primary the FRA will be full and i can't access it ?You can include even archive logs with your database backup.
How to assign the archive logs backups,full backup on standby database?Same script will work, Before that cancel MRP and after backup start MRP. That should be fine.

Problem in switchover to physical standby database
Hi All,
I am doing switchover from primary to physical standby database. Physical standby is in 'managed recovery' mode using real time apply and is in mount mode. I executed alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown command. Now i am waiting for standby mrp to exit after processing eor record, but it seems mrp was hanged.

I am a media specialist in a small school district (1400 students K -12) and am extremely frustrated with Apple. They market these devices to schools for 1:1 implementation (which we have done across the district), but management of these devices is still geared toward individual, personal use. We have had many issues with these iPads which we assured would NOT happen when we sold these iPads. For example, removing FaceTime and iMessage can be done, but students can simply add them back whenever they want. We have tried removing the App Store for student devices to control gaming, but in doing so, we have to handle each iPad individually when we want to add iBooks to the iPads.
We are currently using Apple Configurator to set up these devices for next year, and have to "touch" these devices at least 3 times to get the setup done correctly. First we supervise the devices using a cart of 30, then we have to add the iBooks individually, then we have to put the devices back in the cart to add there files because we need the App Store to put books on, but ultimately do not want the students to have access to the App Store.
Is anyone else in a similar situation who might have some advice for us? We have 1400 iPad 2s running on the latest iOS...and don't get me started on having to deal with iOS 7....
Any advice would be much appreciated....not getting a whole lot of support from Apple....Apple does offer educational discounts on the iPad 2 if you buy in 10-packs. It doesn't give you much of a discount, though; only $20 US per unit on the 16GB WiFi unit, for example. I doubt any store will offer discounts; they don't have to since they can sell every iPad they can get their hands on, though of course you can ask around.
As to apps, it really depends on what your educational purpose is for these units, whether they'll be given to administrators, teachers or students, etc. If you're going to purchase a number of iPads, you want to know about the App Store Volume Purchase Program:

I'm doing some reasearch for the company I work for. As of 1/1/14 we will have a very large list of people that we are not able to do business with as part of a state law. By very large I mean 250,000 statewide.
We are considering ordering ipad minis for those that will be checking the names against the list. Right now they are checking against a list of 1500, and doing it manually with a printed copy that we have laminated. This is an outside position where we check the names before they enter our property so the ipad mini will help us get to the names quickly and with a weatherproof case we can protect the devise from the weather or against dropping. And with 250,000 names we'll need a searchable database that we can search the names quickly.
We will be provided the list in Excel format. I'm looking for an database app that we can upload a csv file to that will present us a searchable database. Bento was highly rated but no longer available after 9/30 which creates some doubts about using that one.
We will have 30 - 40 devices at 26 locations that will need to use it.
Can anyone help?Perhaps FileMaker Go along with the workstation version for the database development would work.

There are other database apps in the iTunes Store if Filemaker won't suit your needs. If your iPads will be cellular or otherwise regularly have access to WiFi, you could also build a web-accessed database, something which might make updates much more practical than sending out Excel spreadsheets to be imported on a bunch of devices. You could also host the database with FileMaker Server and access it across the Internet through FileMaker Go.

I am doing a lot of presenting with the ipad and want an app that would bullseye or show where I am to my audience. Anyone know of something like this?
It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

IPad version of the app store on my iPhone?
Anyone else see this on their App Stores in iOS6? I seem to be getting the iPad version of the App Store on the iPhone
Open the App Store app, go to the Featured pane, swipe to the bottom, tap your Apple ID and sign out. Tap again and sign in. The App Store will be changed to the store for which your account is authorized to make purchases.
