Ipad2 Face time & skype

Hi,
I am looking at the ipad2. One use will be viceo chatting with my collection of friends and family that are on skype, as I do from my desktop or my DroidX. One thing that is not clear to me is if I can call someone on skype and initiate a video chat, with both sides having video and audio. Anyone know if this is possible. I have seen the discussions on the topic in the mobile phone space, but in this case, the people I want to talk to are on the internet (wired or wireless), running on PCs (most of them anyway), and using skype as their video chat app. Thanks for any pointers.

Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears but do not side to shut off. Now hold down on the home button until Face Time quits. Now restart by holding down on the sleep button until the slider appears and slide to shut off. Hold the sleep button down now to restart.

Why do my face time, Skype and Vsee all have no video working?

I have tried various solutions but now not only does my skype not have video capability, also it looks like my face time and Vsee video are non-existent. Frustrated!

OK, checked out the camera's specs. and it records in DD 5.1 SS using AC3 format. In previoud versions of PrPro, one could just copy over the AC3 .dll from Encore and PrPro would ingest the AC3 Audio fine. I have read conflicting reports on CS4's ability to do this.
You might have some success with info on this LINK. There were more in the old Adobe fora, but those links have died, since the forum change. I do not have CS4, so I cannot give you the exact .dll (name changes slightly version to version, but has "ac3" in it. It will be found in Encore and a copy of it needs to be placed in PrPro.
I'd try the copy technique and see if it works. Next the upcoming (later this month?) CS4 update, 4.1 is supposed to fix a lot of things. This might be one of them. Exact release date has not been given, so patience will likely reward you.
Note that you will have an extra Audio Track in your Timeline, either by your, or PrPro's creation. Instead of a little single, or double speaker icon, it will have "5.1" in the header. You will not be able to move this Audio to one of the Audio Tracks with the speaker icons, because of it's type.

Ipad2 face time low and static audio at the receiving end

iPad 2 face time audio is very low and alot of static at the receiving end. Any suggestions on how to have a clear sound?

Umm, Odd.
You seem to be saying that iChat has the correct Mic/sound input slected in the drop down in iChat > Preferences > Video section > Drop down.
You also see to have the setting in Sytem Preferences > Sound > Input tab.
You say that recording in other apps is ok with this set up and we have looked at the Bit rate of the MIDI device in the post above.
At this time I can not thimk of anything more to try.
I will sleep on this and post again if I think of anything.
Edit: Possibly deleting com.apple.ichat.plist will make iChat reset the readings it is getting from other sources.
Deleting this and restarting ichat recreates the .plist but you lose any saved Status Message, Font style, Bubble colours and other less visible things like Individual sound alerts.

Some users create another Apple ID just to use for FaceTime and Messages, but I have 4 devices using both apps and I use one Apple ID on all four. I added another email address on the other devices as the contact at email address and kept the Apple ID email address on my iPad as the contact at email address.
Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached for FaceTime at>Add another email address. Add the email address, Apple will verify it. Go to the InBox of that email account, read the email from Apple, follow the instructions to complete the verification. Go back to Settings>FaceTime and uncheck the Apple email address and check the address that you just added. You can also tap on the blue arrow next to the Apple ID email address and remove it in the next window if you like.
Do the same thing in Messages and ...obviously you need another working email address. You can use your wife's own email address on her iPad as the contact at address.

Face time is not working in my MacBook Pro, not even the video in Skype or Photo Booth

Since I did some projects on iMovie I can't make the face time capture image work. The built in camera is not working even in Skype, or phot booth. What could be the problem? What can I do to solve it?

MacBook Pro / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better. Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG. However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success. So here's what I did:
1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
5. Go back to the Get Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

I can get the camera working for Skype but face time is fine ??

I ahve a brand new 13" pro retina mac book and all of a sudden my skype wont activate the camera the green light doesn't go on but it works fine for face time so its not a hardware issue. I have checked the photobooth and face time is off so not sure is this an apple thing or a skype thing?

Try this:
Make sure that you have quit Skype.
With Finder active, hold the Option key down and click on Go in the menu bar.
In the drop down list select Library.
Scroll through the library folder to the Preferences folder.
Open it, and look for this file: com.skype.skype.plist.
Trash that file.
Now try Skype.

FaceTime is not available in the UAE so it is not on your iPad. It is restricted there.

How can i change the setting for audio-video for my face time to built in only so i can have my skype camera ?

The last few days my I lost the ability on Skype to be seen by the other party ... I can see them but they cannot see me. At the same time my Face Time sent me some messages error.
When I open my Skype and go to Preference and go to audio/video I see my image ... and when I go back to make a call the camera is off (no light). When I look at the bottom where I can have a drop down arrow I have Face Time (built in).
On my other Macpro (that work well) I have at the same place built-in only.
Cannot change anything on my MacBook air ... no drop in.
Please Help and thank you !

Using Face time or Skype in assisted living

Hi,
I have a friend in assisted living who has both memory and vision problems (difficulty in reading,
though she can see OK to do Skype calls). She also has a very hard time learning new procedures.
I would like to set up an iPad for her so that she could make and receive Face Time and /or Skype
calls. I know that you can use Siri to make a facetime call, providing she can learn to press and hold
the home button and speak the command. This is simple enough that I think she could learn it. I know
you can open Skype with Siri, but then you have to tap on a contact and perhaps do other things to make
a call, and I'm not as sure she could learn this.
My idea is to get a charging stand (iportproducts.com) and set the iPad up on her table, and leave it on
all the time (not let it sleep even) so that someone could call her that way and she would be able to answer
(though that might take a tap on an icon also)
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I wouldn't leave the device on constantly, as over time that could take a toll on the display or other components. I would use FaceTime. If you leave the device in sleep, it will turn on and make a noise when a call comes in. All she would need to do is slide the Slide to Answer button. FaceTime is best because she'll be able to use Siri to initiate calls.

HT204380 I recently got my wife an Ipad2 and I have my own so 2 on one appleID. Both use Wi-fi. I will be traveling a bit and want to use Face time but I can not seem to get a connection between these two pads. Can Anyone help?

OK my family now has (2) Ipad2. Mine and my wifes. We do NOT want a second apple account but we want to use facetime. Both pads will ring like it is making a call but the other pad will not recieve the call.
I'm sure I'm not the only person with one account and two apple products. Can someone please let me know how to get these to ipads talking to one another so that while we are traveling we can utilize facetime?

No you do not need two Apple ID's. This is what I did on my iPod Touch and my iPad using my one and only Apple ID.
I used my Apple ID which is my main email address associated with my ID as the email address that I can be reached on the iPad so essentially all I did on the iPad was turn FaceTime on in the settings and let that email address be verified for FaceTime on the iPad.
On the iPod Touch I turned on FaceTime in the settings and then under - You can be reached for video calls at - I added another email address that I have with AOL. Then I went to the inbox of that AOL email address and there was an email from Apple with a link that I tapped on to finish the verification process. I can't recall exactly what it said, but it was very easy to follow the instructions to verify the address.
Then I went back to the FaceTime settings on the Touch and removed my Apple ID email address from - You can be reached for videos calls at ... You have to remove this email address so that you do not end up calling yourself. FaceTime will always revert to the first email address in the settings so that is why you have to remove the Apple ID email address in the one device.

Assuming you have set up your Preferences correctly in Skype, sometimes Skype doesn't seem to automatically trigger the camera. When that happens just click on the camera icon that appears at the bottom of the screen when making a call:

Last week I was in Warsaw and tried to connec to my iMac at home through Face Time on my iPad2. It would not connect. Then I figured it was because my wife was on my account. How do I create a seperate Face Time account for her?

Without knowing the Apple ID and password that has been used to set up the phone, the phone can't be restored. Check this article:

Can I use Skype with a macbook air and the face time camera

I am an Imac user and learning this new macbook air. I have face time on this and am wondering if I can use skype with the facetime camera of if I need to add a remote web cam? I am not seeing the video function in skype.

I've used mine a few times within Skype. No issues.
The FT camera is suitable for any application requiring a camera, notwithstanding the "not so hot" resolution of the built-in camera on the MBA.
Check the Audio/Video tab within Skype Preferences to select the built-in camera.
