My computer cant see the phone
ANy ideas anyone, I Cant lose the photos and contacts on my phone,

Hi mshiningstar,
You can transfer content from your iPhone to your new computer with the File menu in iTunes and even redownload previous purchases from the iTunes Store. The article below provides details about those processes and others, which may be better options depending on the type of content you want to transfer.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
Method
Considerations
Home Sharing
The easiest option, as long as your new computer is already connected to the Internet.
External drive
Requires additional hardware but backs up your iTunes library.
Transferring purchases
Fastest, but only moves the content you purchased from the iTunes Store. Also requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod with the content on it.
Windows Migration Assistant
Works best for migrating from an old PC to a new Mac, and transfers more than iTunes.

I have all my music on an external hard drive. I just transferred all my files to a new hard drive . How do I sync all my files with my itunes library without losing all my playlists etc and keep everything intact?

Launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and specify it. If the external drive doesn't contain the iTunes database files, create a new library there and import that music.
If the library contains any rented movies, they won't play on a different computer.

  • How do I get my old iPhone 4g to work with a new computer without losing all data on it?

I bought a new MacBook Pro with Retna display to replace a dead gateway running Windows XP. My iPhone 4 was always connected to the old gateway and I synced to the iTunes on it. Now I have my new MacBook up and running and have logged into its new iTunes and synced my new iTunes to my Apple ID and to the apple store. Everything looks good in the new iTunes. Problem is now when I connect my old iPhone to the new computer it's iTunes warns of my iPhone data about to be erased. How can I prevent losing all my stuff. I don't want to lose all my text messages on the iPhone. What can I do to prevent losing everything from my phone?

Ok thanks again for your reply, link to Apple article, and concern for my questions. That is very refreshing to have people willing to share their knowledge like you.
So why do you suppose we get this awful warning when we connect our iPhone to a new computer that all data on the phone will be deleted if we continue? Furthermore why don't we get a further explanation as to what to do sat that point?
I can not stand warnings like this that make me feel like I have done something wrong, that somehow I may be violating my terms of service. All that legalize is not customer friendly. Apple has always impressed my more that any company with excellent personal customer service but this is not good the way they scare you when you honestly are trying to move to a new computer with your old iPhone.

  • How can I synchronise my Iphone with Itune without losing all my contacts in my Iphone?

I am working for someone who has more than one computer with Itune installed.
I have been asked to synchronise an Iphone with one of them.
Before doing, I would like to make sure that I will not lose all the contacts on the Iphone.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thank you!

Remember that your iPhone will be able to sync with only one computer/iTunes Library. If your boss is insisting that you sync with one of his computers, I do hope he is at least paying your monthly cell bill, and preferably the initial cost of the phone itself.
You can copy your own computer's iTunes Library to your boss's computer first. You will then get all your apps and media back during the first wipe-and-sync with the new computer. You can also copy the Address Book data from your computer to your boss's computer to preserve your Contacts data.
An easier way to preserve your Contacts data is to sync it "over the air" using an email service. MobileMe, Google, and Yahoo are all easy to use for Contacts syncing. This is a very good method to use, since your Contacts are always "in the cloud" and available from anywhere, including from any computer with a web browser connected to the internet.

  • Can i change my existing sim card on my iphone 4 with a completely new sim card, without losing information, icloud info etc?

Getting a completely new sim card but same network this week. I have an iPhone 4. Once i receive the new sim card, will my photos, music, contacts etc still be there with the new sim card in the iphoine? Will my icloud be the same etc? How would i transfer it over if i have to? or will nothing change ? thanks

Yes, you can change your sim card and not lose pictures, etc.  The only thing the sim card holds is carrier settings.  That said, just to make sure you are completely safe, backup your phone before you replace the sim.  If anything goes wrong (it shouldn't), you'll have everything in your backup.

  • My old computer got stolen, how can I sync to a new itunes without losing all my contacts, and other stuff?

So my old windows computer that my iphone was sync to got stolen, I bought a new MacBook Pro and it asking me to erase and sync What can I do to keep all my contacts, photos, and other data and sync my iphone then restore all my data? or anything similar you might think that could help. Please any information or tips will be helpful!

The right way is to restore the backup that you kept of your old computer onto your new one. If it is too late for that before you do anything set up a backup process for the new one so when it crashes (note I said "when", not "if") you won't be faced with this problem again.
In lieu of that the apps already mentioned will help you get content off the phone if it was not purchased from iTunes. But it it WAS purchased from iTunes just connect the phone to your new computer, Authorize iTunes on the new computer and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes file menu.

  • I have 10GB of Other Data. How can I restore my phone without losing all of my data?

I have 10GB of Other Data on my phone.  If I restore from backup, all of the Other data is still there.  Do I understand correctly, that I can restore to factory settings and then load all of my apps, music, etc back onto my phone from my computer?  If so, how do I do that?  What data will I lose by doing this?
    Thank you!

If restoring from a backup still shows the "Other" data, it's likely contained as a part of the backup. You can restore the device and resync that data (apps, music, etc) back to the device. The things to pay attention to would be things like contacts, calendars, and notes -> would want to make sure those were synced with an account of some sort, or saved elsewhere to transfer back to the device. Also, items like messages can't be synchronized back over to the device, unless it's from a backup.

  • I attempted to move my iTunes library so that I can share it with the other accounts on my computer. Now it won't play on any account.  How do I restore locations without losing all my songs etc?

I was following directions on a mac board on how to share my iTunes library with my kids accounts on my computer. I must have not followed the directions correctly, as now I can not listen to any music on any account including the admin.  I don't remember where I got the instructions or what I did to reverse the things that I moved.  How do I restore my ability to listen to all the music that I have without re-aquiring it?
And then how do I get it so that I can share with the other accounts on my computer?
    thanks

Without knowing what changes you made it's impossible to say what you can do to fix it, but I would suggest checking two things in the Preferences menu:  first, under the Parental Controls, make sure you haven't disabled any of the areas that won't play; second, go into the Sharing area and uncheck the "Share library on my local network" box, then go back to the main library and see if the songs will play.

  • HT1766 I got a new MacBook Air. I need to sync my iPhone with the iTunes on my new computer so I can back up my iPhone. How do I do this without losing my pictures/contacts, etc. on my iPhone?

I have not updated my phone yet because I know it needs to be backed up first. However, I cannot do this in fear of losing everything on it if I sync to my new itunes. I am not really concerned with losing music, just do not want to lose pictures, notes, etc.

First you need to copy the entire iTunes folder from the
old computer to the new one.  You should also make sure
that anything on the old computer that goes on the iPhone
is present on the new computer.
If it is a Mac, this process is usually pretty easy by using
Migration Assistant which will transfer all that stuff over to
    the new Mac.
If you are using a PC, I will defer that to someone else for
all but the iTunes stuff.  You will do the same thing on the
PC, that is copy the entire iTunes folder to the new computer.
Migration assistant is available to move things from a PC,
but not sure how well that works.
When openning iTunes for the first time, you will need to hold
down the Option key on the Maccbook Air and you will
be presented with a dialog box and you will select open existing
library and navigate to it.  Failure to do this, will create a default
library with nothing in it and you will have to move stuff again.
So if all the data is the same, you should be able to sync
    just fine.

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4 to a new "home" (computer/PC) without losing content, ie. music, etc???

PLEASE HELP!!! I've been told that before I try and authorize my laptop as my phones new home, I need to ensure that I have at least one contact and one event in the address book and contact list in Microsoft Outlook.. Not only do I not understand how that is relevant to iTunes, but regardless, I don't even have the programme on my computer.
The main thing that I am worried about is losing my music, as there are thousands of songs I've obtained from the old "home", and anything of any major importance such as phone numbers, messages or photos etc.

You need to copy everything from your old comuter, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.
The music and pic sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases
If you sync contacts and calendars to a computer with no contacts and clandars, then they will be erased as well.

  • HT1848 How do i sync my old iphone to new windows laptop which is authorized without losing all the data on the iphone and having to sync only with what is on the laptop??

I have a new laptop and i have authorized it with my apple ID but I can't sync my iphone with it because it is currently synced to another computer. Every time I try and sync my music it comes up with the message  ' are you sure you want to remove existing music, films, tv programmes, books and tones from this iphone and sync with this itunes library' which i DONOT want to do! Also on my laptop none of my apps are there so I would assume i would lose all of those from my Iphone as well!
Please help, looked at other threads and all they suggest is to click on 'transfer purchases' but this is not an option anywhere on itunes..!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

what does "Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications on your computer(iCal & Address Book on a Mac, Windows Address Book or Outlook if using Windows). These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty" mean???

  • I have bought a 3rd generation IPod and have given my husband my 2nd gen Ipod plus my Ipad   How do I change it over to him without losing all my passwords etc for my current one?

    My question remains the same.

Just restore your old one. This wipes all content from the iPod and resets all of its settings back to its defaults.

  • I have an old ipod that got put through the washer. I want to restore it but i already have a new ipod. How can i restore my old ipod without losing all of my new itunes songs?

I accidently put my old 2nd generation Ipod nano through the washer a few years ago. Well after that it would no longer work do to water damage. After a while i got a new Ipod (the same type) and was able to get new songs to put on it and what not. Well i was playing around with the one i washed opne day and found that i could still restore it on iTunes. However, it wont let me restore it without losing all of my music and what not that i got for the new one. I would like to continue to use the old one, but I am afraid of losing all of my current stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can restore the old and keep the new? I am in desperate need.

    Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.
The flat fee for a battery exchange is, I believe, $99.00 USD.

  • I have just purchased a Macbook pro, but my iphone is currently synched to my old pc. How can I now synch it with my new mac without losing all the apps/music etc on my phone, Ta

Hi, I have just purchased a Macbook, but my iphone is currently synched to my old pc. How can I now synch it with my new mac without losing all the apps/music etc on my phone? Ta

The easiest way is to copy the iTunes folder from your old PC to your MB (put it in the Music folder as a subfolder), along with the other valuable data on the old PC. Or restore it from a backup of your old PC. Then authorize iTunes on the MB to the same account you had on the PC. When you sync it will warn you that your content will be deleted, but it will be replaced with the same content from the MB. Before syncing you should also make sure there is at least one entry in iCal and Address book on the MB (assuming you sync to Outlook or equivalent on the PC) to assure that your contacts and calendar entries will move over correctly.
Al alternative that is less effective is to connect the iPhone to the MB without syncing, and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes File menu. This willl copy purchases music, videos and apps, but not ripped tracks from the iPhone to the MB.

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.
