IPhone 5 / iOS8 install process frozen, what to do

I backed up the iPhone 5. I downloaded iOS8. Then initiated the update from iOS 7 to iOS 8 and now my iPhone is stuck with the Apple logo and the progress bar one third of the way!!!!! What should I do?  I got an error in iTunes that said "unknown error (14)".

I left the phone connected to my MacBook for many hours and this morning the iPhone was displaying a connect to iTunes image.
I disconnected the phone, rebooted my MacBook, checked if there were any OS X updates, there were so I updated my OS X with an update from the Mac App Store (which required me to close Safari and iTunes). Once the update was done (which did not cause any reboot), I re-launched iTunes. Then, I connected my iPhone which went through a very long process of re-installing iOS 8, then recovering from backup and then re-installing the apps, songs, books and the rest. This took like 30 minutes.
I was then able to follow the iOS 8 config steps on my iPhone and everything now seems fine. Not certain if it is related by the Facebook app on my iPhone kept on freezing after the upgrade, so I uninstalled it and re-installed it and it is now working.

  • My iphone ios8 update is frozen - what do i do?

It seems to be instructing me to hook up to a laptop - I have no laptop back up. Any suggestions?

If the device is in Recovery mode, then a reset will probably not help. However, it doesn't hurt to try it. A lot of posters had issues with the iOS 7.1.2 update freezing and not continuing on a Wifi update. The reset worked for that condition with no issues.
If the OP is going to try the reset then they need to hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the "Slide to Unlock" screen will redisplay.
Once the reset is complete, they should go to Settings>General, and click on About. They then should check the Version number. If it is not 8.0, then they need to hook the device up to iTunes and start the download of the upgrade from there.

    Hi,
    1) Forget downloading the application from the device, and instead download it through iTunes and sync to transfer the application to your iPhone / iPad.
    2) Other way is: Go to Application Settings> Store and tap above the Apple ID to sign out. Restart your iPhone / iPad, go back to Settings> Store and sign. Tap the icon that was waiting to update the application.

    UDPATE:
Spoke with Express lane, and issue was escalated.  Kudos to the support guys that handled this one (Brian and Yi).  Went through everything in detail and took all the crash dumps off the iphones and ipads to send to engineering.
After backing up the contacts, the recommendation was to delete all contacts in  iCloud.  Doing that caused my iCloud to crash (in the browser), so more crash dumps were sent to apple.
Eventually got all contacts deleted, then did a resync.  Looks like IOS devices are coming back to life and syncing again.
Also, Outlook iCloud connector has just been updated to ver 1.0.1 so i installed that on their recommendation.
    BOTTOM LINE workaround:
    1. Backup contacts
    2. Delete contacts in iCloud
    3. Delete accounts on IOS devices
    4. Recreate accounts on IOS devices.
Hoping a real root cause can be found and real fix implemented.  This has caused me to doubt the stability of iCloud, so i will procees with caution.

  • After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update, I can no longer access the itunes store and my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?

After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update I can no longer acces the itunes store nad my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows updates. I have checked the firewall settings. what else?

The problem is with version 10.4.1.  I had to reload 10.3 to get it to work.  The recommendation from a previous poster worked for me.  Here was their list of steps:
    Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall
    2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:
         a. iTunes
         b. QuickTime
         c. Apple Software Update
         d. Apple Mobile Devices Support
         e. Bonjour
         f.  Apple Appllcation Support
    3.  Reboot PC
    4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)
If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:
    5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file
    6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.
    7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder
    8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"
    9.  Reboot PC

I upgraded to iphone 4s and installed iOS 6 but now my battery life is significantly reduced. What can I do to fix this problem?
I restored my settings my I got the new phone but I think I heard that with the iOS 6 updated that can be an issue and it is better to start from scratch rather than restore your settings.

    reset all settings
settings- general- reset - reset all settings
    now reconnect to wifi
settings - wifi- click network name - enter password - join
if issue persists backup info and restore via itunes
    Peace, Clyde

Why do Orange and EE blame Apple for the delays in unlocking my iPhone. 10 months now. What is the exact process that these companies have to go through to unlock an iPhone and is Apple in any way to blame for the delays.
Indeed how long does Apple take to carry out its part of the process.
It seems to me that Orange are just trying to stall me despite the fact that I am out of contract with them now.  I originally paid to have the phone unlocked back last November.  This was never done.
I have phoned them numerous times over the last two months but still they haven't done it.  Can anyone advise me and has anyone had similar problems with them.
    Thanks

I certainly understand that only Orange can unlock my phone.  My annoyance is that they blame Apple so I am keen to know what exactly is Apple's involvement.
I presume that Orange have to tell Apple that the phone has been authorised for unlocking by Orange and that Apple then notes that in some way on iTunes so that the user can then complete the process on iTunes.
What I would like to know is how much time Apples part in this process takes.
I would also like to make contact with others who have had similar problems.
    Many thanks

    Hi Drgeert-
The hub may not be broken per se, but Apple has made adjustments to the limits on current that can be drawn from ports.
You probably need a new hub.

I too am having this problem. All I want to do is use my iCloud backup of my phone to fix a bug in IOS 7 that loop-prompts me to connect to iTunes. Anyone that has an answer to to OP would be greatly appreciated. There have been almost 3000 views on this page and only 8 posts that aren't much help at all so far. Enough with this 'Do you know how to read' white-space. I'm here for answers!!!
However, I suppose I already have the answer. This is simply another example of Apple using their software to limit consumers of certain demographics (namely, people who have the phone but don't pay for service from a carrier). A SIM card is only required for activation because the software administrator says so; and for no other reason. The hardware is there and its perfectly functional otherwise. I shouldn't even need to activate in the first place. Just restore my freaking phone!!

  • My iphone 4 is enlarged and frozen on the lock screen...what can I do?

My iphone 4 is enlarged and frozen on the lock screen...It will not let me do anything! Please help!!

You have Zoom on... double tap with three fingers to turn it off.   Go into Settings > General > Accessibility to disable it.
    If that doesn't work...
Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider if, it comes up. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
