IPhone B5: UIPickerView Busted?

The UIPickerView rendering seems broken. Is there some magic size it needs to be to draw its borders correctly? Also I get some visual quirks when I turn on its selection drawing option.

Yeah, I'm specifically trying to use it with a width less than the width of the device. It doesn't let you set a background color so you can't easily make it look like it blends in with the interface. I was considering using a border image to blend it manually. I guess it's just another incomplete control. Will hope it gets better in next beta.
My other problem is that I'm trying to use IB to build this view. The picker isn't supported directly yet so I have to use a plain view and set its class appropriately. There's no realtime preview and you can't use the trick the samples suggest of setting a CGRectZero size so the system can size it the way it wants. Again, hopefully just a beta issue.

  • IPhone SDK - UIPickerView selection indicator customization

    Hi,
I have a UIPickerView and would like to have the selection indicator to show the units of my selection. This is similar to the Timer app on iPhone. On this app, the picker shows the numbers for hours and minutes and the selection indicator indicates the units (i.e. hours/mins). I want the same effect but have not been able to figure it out. I tried hacking it by constantly changing the value for the current selected cell in the delegate and calling reloadData everytime but the result is ugly and jumpy. I am sure there is a better way to do this.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    loungefan

Yes, that's the way I did it too, although I had to do it programmatically as when I tried to use datepickers, UIPickers in IB, other controls and views did not work properly, so I ended up leaving a space for the picker in IB and did the picker and selection label by hand (with MANY tweaks to get it right).

  • HT4061 my iphone screen is busted and i want to upload my pics to itunes

how would i bypass my lock screen passcode being that my screen is smashed and the lcd display is broken,i want to upload my pics to my itunes/pc before discarding my phone,is there any way to do so?

It's too late for that, now. If you're just going to toss it, perhaps a 3rd party repair shop can replace the display for you so that you can unlock the phone and transfer your photos. That will forfiet all rights to have it serviced by Apple and it could result in losing all the data on the phone... but... since you can't get to it now anyway, it might be worth a shot.

  • Can I use other phone charger on my iPhone 5

Recently my iphone charger got busted. It wont charge my iphone anymore
I'm wondering if I can use my galaxy S4 charger on my iPhone 5 because charging on my usb tooks forever. I won't be able to get a replacement charger till next week.
    iPhone 5 charger output:
    5V
    1amp
    S4 charger output:
    5V
    2amps
Any reply will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The charger from the S4 will not work as it is micro USB and all iDevices starting with the iPhone 5 use a lightening connector.  The 4S and older use a 30pin dock connector.

  • Geotagged iPhone Images lose location data when exported?

Gudday fellow iPhone warriors, here's my vexing issue:
This morning I used the Flickr and Panoramio iPhone Apps to upload some geotagged images from my Camera Roll and synced iPhoto Events (yes, I can confirm that all my images are tagged, and they show up in Places on iOS4).
When these geotagged images arrive at Flickr and Panoramio, they contain no location data.
Is this location metadata stripped from the images as they are exported from the iPhone? If so, who can I make the suggestion to, to leave the location data intact when I export images from the iPhone?
Cheers, and thanks in advance for your words of wisdom ;O).

    Thanks for the prompt response!
Did a little extra research, got some more information:
    - yep, the Flickr iPhone App is busted (per the App Store user reviews)
    - yep, the Panoramio App is busted (per the App Store user reviews)
    - my metadata permissions for both Flickr & Panoramio are good to go
    - pics emailed to Flickr from iPhone *lose their geotag* data
    - pics emailed to Panoramio from iPhone *lose their geotag* data
    - pics emailed from MacBook Pro Mail as small, medium, large *lose geotag* data
    - pics emailed from MacBook Pro Mail as actual size retain their geotag data
    - pics emailed from iPhone Mail lose their geotag data
So, looks like iPhone email app is one of the culprits, and the Flickr and Panoramio Upload Apps need to be updated to take advantage of the new capabilities in iOS4 to use image EXIF metadata.
I'm going to try another test tonight:
    - upload an image from the iPhone to the iPhone DropBox App
    - check the metadata of that image from DropBox on my MacBook Pro
Can you think of anything else??
I was quite shocked to see that Apple Mail strips the metadata of images that are resized for emailing...

  • Lower audio quality using iphone

listen to this quite strange thing: some of my mp3 files, played with my iphone 4s, have busted/broked low tones. then i tried to see if a friend's iphone had the same problem: with an usb, i put one of the files in his computer, then through itunes inside the iphone and: same thing. low tones are distorted.
not surrender, i tried to send to another friend's iphone 4s the file in question by email. misterriously the sound was pretty good. as final test, i auto sent the file by email to me and: my iphone played it good (it appears on the screen a quicktime logo, and he plays the song remaining in the email app).
i specify that not all the song with many low tones have the problem on my (and my friends) iphone. just some of them.
    any explanation or solution?!?!?!
    thanks to you all.

I have new Factory Unlocked iPhone 5 with new earphones. These earphones are pretty smooth while listening to music. When it comes to making calls there is lot of noise background or a sort of amplifier sound and both the ends the audio is not clear. Did any one face this issue with new earphones with iPhone 5? if so, what is the solution for this? Can any one help me resolving this issue as I am the extensive user of iPhone 5 with new earphones? Thanks in advance.

  • My cd drive on my mac w/ itunes is busted, so i'm looking for an alternative way to get mp3 files (large, for an audiobook) from a cd to my iphone. Any suggestions? Thanks

My cd drive on my mac w/ itunes is busted, so i'm looking for an alternative way to get mp3 files (large, for an audiobook) from a cd to my iphone. Any suggestions? Thanks

Copy them to a thumb drive using a different computer then use that to transfer them to your machine. Over a network from a machine with a working CD drive...
What does this have to do with using the iPhone in an enterprise environment?

  • [iPhone] UIPickerView - possibly caching

    Hi all,
I am doing a bit of prototype testing and have coded a small iPhone app that browses Bonjour services.
On the interface I have currently just added a UIPickerView which dynamically at runtime gets items added to it as and when my NSNetServiceBrowser finds services.
When the browser finds a service it simple calls:
// services is just an NSMutableArray of NSNetService objects
    [services addObject:aNetService];
    [aNetService resolveWithTimeout:5.0];
    [uiPickerView reloadAllComponents];
And my UIPickerViewDelegate methods perform the following:
    - ( NSString * )pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView
    titleForRow:(NSInteger)row
    forComponent:(NSInteger)component
    NSNetService* service = [[bonjourDiscoveryService services] objectAtIndex:row];
    return [service name];
This is working fine but I have noticed something strange.
If I turn stop the bonjour service on an already displayed service the UIPickerView successfully removes it from the list.
But, then if I change the service name and restart the Bonjour service the UIPickerView adds the service but with the old service name?
Does the iPhone have some form of caching objects??
    Many thanks all,
    Eggsy

To everyone that has read this post - I am a stupid programmer and there is no caching.
I wasn't changing my service object with the new name!
    Useless - my apologies!!

  • IPhone 5 Battery is a Bust and the Fixes Won't Help

You can setup your new iPhone 5 as a new phone, and it's not going to solve the problem of battery drain. I tried both ways. First, I restored by 3Gs backup to the new iPhone 5, and then I wiped the new iPhone 5 and set it up as a new phone. There are alot of claims that this will make a substantial difference. It may have made a small difference, but in the larger context it makes none and here's why:
The iPhone 5 battery does not perform even close to the specs claimed by Apple. There is no way you will get 225 hours of standby time. There is no way you will get 10 hours of Wi-Fi time.
    Specs: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
I could put my new iPhone 5 into Airplane mode, then turn Wi-Fi on and have everything else turned off: Siri, Location, Nofitications, Push. At best, I might get 6 hours of surfing time. No video, just apps and web pages.
I doubt very much iPhone 5 can even last a single work day of telephone calls, email, and web surfing. And this would be even if LTE, and everything else is turned off: Siri, Location, Nofitications, Push.
Latest Usage Data, with no LTE, Siri, Location, Nofitications, Push. In fact, the stats below are with 1 short phone call, and in Airplane mode overnight. Usage must stand for any time the phone is simply not asleep, certainly not when an app is being used.
    Battery: 9%
    Usage: 6 hours, 27 minutes
    Standby: 1 Day, 5 hours.
My conclusion: Apple's battery specs are not even close to performance. I really don't see how one could use the iPhone 5 as a business phone, as it could not even get you through a 12 hour day. And by 12 hour day, I mean ALOT of time when the phone is is in standby mode.

did you have a technical question?

  • HT4623 My Iphone 5 is experiencing terrible speaker issues - the speakers are busted I do believe.  I had a software update on Saturday May 11 - which said it was for the speaker phone, but to no avail... I still cannot use my speaker phone.

I am so disgusted with the new Iphone 5 and the speaker quality.  I was using the speaker phone a few days ago, and it started to sound like I had poor signal and poor reception.  I later discovered, it was the speaker itself.  It has apparently burst.
I then got a notice of a software update specifically for the speaker phone - on Saturday, May 11, 2013.  I downloaded the update, and it is still terrible.  I cannot use the speaker phone nor use the speakers in any capacity.
To have paid this much for such a wonderfully technical piece of equipment - to find it cannot perform the simplest task of delivering quality speaker tones.  It is inaudible.
I am not going to purchase another Iphone.  Sadly, I have been an avid IPhone user since they first came out, and have always purchased the newest version.  The Iphone 5 will be my last IPhone.
My daughter has the Galaxy 4S, and I am very impressed.
Sorry Apple, you have dropped the ball.  A phone this advanced should be able to have the simplest of features work properly... any cell phone has good speaker phone capabilities...except for the Iphone 5.
Signed, a very disappointed Iphone 5 customer.

This is a user to user help forum only so doubtful if anyone here is going to lose any sleep.
If you think android devices never have a hardware problem or failure, you are delusional.
Be sure to purchase an run antivirus on those android devices since you will need it. Android is the mobile equivalent of Windows in regards to security or severe lack thereof.

  • Broken iphone 5 I want to sell but how do I remove accounts etc?battery is bust too please help

I Need to sell the phone ,how do I wipe all data and accounts? Batter isnt working and screen is smashed ,buyer will repair it but need to remove passwords etc

You can reset your iPhone to factory settings with iTunes or by going to settings, this article may help you: Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings. As for the battery, you will need to request a battery service from an Apple authorized repair center, you can request one here: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/battery-power/. If your iPhone is still under Apple's limited warrantee (1 year), you may be eligible to repair it for free as a defective battery is covered, but if your iPhone is not under warrantee, then it may cost you $79 to repair. If you are also looking into repairing the screen, it will cost you $269 to repair as accidental damage is not covered under Apple's limited warrantee. I suggest that if your iPhone is still under warrantee, you send it to Apple for repair (battery only) as it may cost you nothing. (Shipping costs do apply.)
