Iphone not recognizing charger

My iPhone 5 stopped recognizing the charger about a week ago unless I shook it around or flipped the charger (the part that goes into the phone). I took it to the Apple Store, where an employee removed some lint and claimed it would work. Unfortunately, the problem has persisted and just today it stopped recognizing all of my chargers. My iPad recognizes them and my phone doesn't work with other chargers either, so I know that the problem is not the chargers, but the phone. What should I do? My warranty ended in October (I've had an iPhone 5 since October 2012, had to replace the original in February 2013)

    Hi GrannaJean,

  • IPhone not recognized/charging from laptop

I just tried to connect my iPhone so I could dump my video via Image Capture to my laptop & my iPhone will not charge when connected or recognized my iTunes or Image Capture.
I know both USBs are working because i hooked an external drive to my aptop and it was recognized right away.
Any ideas why this is happening & how to fix?

A few thoughts, in no particular order of things you can try:
Do you have the most current version of iTunes (8.2) ?? It's required for the 3GS.
Try resetting your iPhone, then try syncing again. Reboot your computer, try syncing again.
Try doing an SMC reset (google your mac model and how to do an SMC reset) and perhaps a PRAM reset as well.
Reset your iSync -- it's in your Application folder -- go into iSync, Preferences, click on "Reset Sync History" let it do it's thing, then close out of iSync and try syncing again.

  • HT1414 iphone not recognized in windows or itunes

iphone not recognized in windows or itunes

My iPhone 5 was not being recognized by two different computers, windows 7 and windows 8.1.  My wife's iphone 5 had no issues.  I followed all the advice on-line from re-installing iTunes, resetting my phone ( as new and backed up from cloud), device manager troubleshooting, re-install drivers, different cables, different ports.  Oddly enough in the fianl analysis my iPhone only gets recognized when the cable is insert in one way into the phone.  Flip the cable and it goes straight to "unknown device".  Doesn't matter which cable I use, it only works on one side.  My wife's works both ways.  I can't explain it, but there it is.  I put a dot with a permanent marker on the cable to identify which side goes up.

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes any more

    iTunes 9.0.2 on a 2006 iMac 2GHz intel duo running OSX 10.5.8
    iPhone 3Gs 32 gig
    iPod (5th gen)
3 external hard drives, all the iTunes library stored on a Mybook 1 TB Firewire drive plugged into iMac direct, not via a Firewire hub.
I plugged my iPhone into the Mac this am, tried to sync the iPhone and got an error message saying that something was wrong with my iTunes.
    Mac then froze.
Finally got the Mac back up after five attempts (eventually, had to unplug everything, including the mains to the iMac, plug in just the power, keyboard and mouse, press and hold power switch for 5 secs then plug in each extra drive when the Mac came back up).
Found something seriously wrong with iTunes as it wouldn't open when clicked on (Force Quit reported app frozen).
Deleted iTunes using AppZap then downloaded iTunes from Apple website.
iTunes now back up on iMac but can't find any of the music files (even when I carefully repoint the iTunes to the correct location for the iTunes library by iTunes/Preferences/Advanced then Change iTunes Media Folder Location). Each entry in the iTunes library now has a black exclamation mark against it,
Also, iTunes doesn't see my iPhone when I plug it in.
Also, when I plug in my iPod, get the error message "The iPod is synced with anotehr iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
    HELP!
By the way, I have TIME MACHINE running to a separate and dedicated HD. Can I not just "roll back" my iMac in the same way I could do with a PC, say selecting the iMac when it was last working fine (yesterday evening)??
Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for an answer....
    Chris

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes after update

I recently downloaded & installed the latest update for iTunes and it actually removed iTunes and put and extra (& useless) shortcut for quicktime in my desktop. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes and quicktime with nor problem. I hooked up the iPhone and downlaoded the latest update for it as well and it crashed during the installation of it. I have since had to reboot on my roomates pc and it will not be come up in iTunes. My computer still recognizes it though. I have gone through all the steps in apples site and microsoft and have no clue what to do now. I use this thing all day every day and need the music and video capablities for "work" purposes. If anyone can help, thanks.

    Symptoms:
iPhone not recognized by iTunes on Windows computer, however an iPod will.
The iPhone CAMERA appears in windows My Computer - but nowhere else.
    Problem:
The Apple iPhone Driver has been replaced by a Microsoft Driver which enables the camera/storage, but did not allow it to connect with iTunes.
    SOLUTION:
From Device Manager, Select the iPhone (under imaging/Portable Devices) and then select "Update Driver", Don't direct it to automatically search for a driver, instead, manually point it to search in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers - It should then "do it's thing" and install the correct apple driver - voila - iPhone is then recognized.

  • IPhone 4S not recognized/charging after iOS 6.0.1 update

    Hi,
I've upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.0.1 when the updates became available on my handset and everything seems to work fine until I plugged it into my iMac for some late-night development with XCode. It wasn't recognized/charging at all. At first, I thought the connector cable was faulty, but using the provided Apple charger and the same cable, charging was working....
This morning, when arriving at work, I upgraded an iPhone 4 (the previous generation) to iOS 6.0.1 and plugged it into my work iMac: Same issue.
It seems that upgrading the iOS version to 6.0.1 disable synching/charging on my iMac.
    Verified on:
    - iPhone 4 + iMac 27in Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    - iPhone 4S + iMac 27in Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
I have no iPhone 5 available yet, so I cannot verify it, but it seems that something is amiss.
    Beware of iOS 6.0.1!

    Let's do a little recap:
    - Do not detect in iTunes/XCode on my iMac Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (Both 4 and 4S)
    - Do not charge when plugged-in on my iMac Mid-2010 running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (Both 4 and 4S)
    - Soft Reset from the phone does not work (Only tried on iPhone 4)
    - Hard-Reset from the phone does not work (Only tried on iPhone 4)
    - DFU Mode will not trigger the iTunes. (Only tried on iPhone 4)
Perhaps it is not widespread, but it is annoying. Especially when the iPhone 4 is my work phone and I need it to deploy/test my App before submitting to the App Store!

  • IPhone not recognized by computer, but is charging just fine?

    Hello,
    I have synced my phone before with my iTunes just fine, but lately I've had issues. I plug my phone into my computer and it charges it just fine, but no trust notification or anything has shown up. No indication of it being noticed at all happens. Now before you answer, let me explain some things;
    1. I've tried three different cords, old one, and two new ones.
    2. It is no where to be found in device manager or anything of the sort.
    3. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of iTunes at least three times, to no avail.
    4. Restarted and updated everything multiple times as well.
    5. Tried two other computers, nothing.
I have iOS 8.1.2, and the newest iTunes (12.something.)
    Anyone have any ideas?

Well, this is the support document for an iPhone not being recognized with iTunes in Windows. iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
When you removed and reinstalled iTunes, did you do it by following the instructions in this support document? Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
If you did not follow the instructions above, it can cause additional issues for you. With the phone connected, you say you do not see it in device manager, do you see it in Computer? Do you see any USB error in device manager?

  • Iphone 5 not recognizing charger or USB to computer since 6.1.2

I did the update to iOS 6.1.2, the phone was charging at the time.  As soon as it installed the update my iPhone 5 stopped charging and will not recognize any chargers, won't communicate with any PC's.
I tried clearing and reseting the iPhone, that has not fixed the issue!
Right now I am down to 30% charge and by tomorrow I will have no phone service because the battery is quickly going flat.   Wi-Fi access is at a snails pace.  I've never had it restore settings and that portion to be estimated now at 26 minutes and rising.  I have extremely fast internet and it's only ever taken a very short time.
I cannot be the only one with this problem, surely?

I thought about that,  I tried multiple cables and the problem occured on them all.  It seems to be hit and miss when it recognizes the charger being connected.   If it is the cable that is at issue then it is a problem that Apple is responsible for,  all the cables are Apple Branded ones and at $30 a cable it is getting expensive.  A great money making machine for Apple.   Never had any problems with the old 30 pin cables on the iPhone 4 and 4S and those cables are still working.
Incidentally the issue still occurs with a brand new cable I bought though it seems to be more hit and less miss with that one and the problem is also occuring if I use a 30 pin dock with the adapter attached to that.
I'm tired of spending on Apple Cables and it makes buying an Android device more appetizing every time I have to chuck away another $30 + Sales Tax.  In fact the cable that came with the iPhone came apart in the first 14 days of owning so I have been a regular buyer of Apple Lightning cables since I bought the phone.

  • Iphone not recognized by windows or itunes

Can anyone please help me figure out how to resolve this issue?  My iphone 4 is not recognized by my PC.  My OS is by Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.  I tried the various "device not recognized" troubleshooting to no avail.  I tunes is up to date.  I even turned off my security sw for a bit to see if there was a third party conflict...all to no avail.  There has got to be someone out there who has the smarts to show me how to fix this.  Please advise and many thanks in advance!

    Jason,
I understand why Apple doesn't cover the water damaged phones under the warranty, but do you know why they don't fix them if the customer is paying? Is it just because they want the people to buy another phone so they can make more money? I guess I just don't get it.
The cost to repair a device and all of its components is more than the cost of a new device.
Other than the article I linked above, this is the part of the warranty/legal forms that would apply:

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes, won't stay Off, etc

My iPhone started giving me an error message yesterday (happens about every 30 mins or so) that "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone"
The problem is nothing is connected to the iPhone! Additionally, whenever I connect the phone to my comp, iTunes fails to recognize it. So I can't do a Restore. In fact, it appears that the iPhone doesn't realize it is plugged in.
I was able to charge it from the wall charger last night, so I am pretty sure the connector "works."
Is there a way to reset the phone without using iTunes?
(Yes, I am the original owner. No, it is not jailbroken.)
    Thanks!

I am having a similar problem. I am attempting to install the airport extreme card in my ibook g4. The computer is not recognizing the card and now it isn't recognizing the iphone. If I remove the airport card then itunes recognizes the iphone. I have the original phone with the 2.01 update. I'm stumped.

  • Iphone not recognized by Macbook

My i-phone4 is no longer recognized by my Macbook Pro from 2009. I have read other posts and tried but they do not work for various reasons.
    1. I have tried restarting my computer. The phone vibrates but does not chime. The phone can then charge but is not listed in finder as a device.
    2. I have gone through all the trouble shooting steps in support.
    3. The "iphone" devices button in I-tunes disappears when I click on it.
    4. The sync tab under file is grayed out.
    5. I have gotten the error message that I-tunes cannot connect with my iphone while running the trouble shooter guide.
    6. I am running Lion and everything is updated.  I-tunes is also updated.
I would appreciate any advice and am wondering if I need a new cable. Thanks.

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below. Note: While the article is written for iPods, the troubleshooting steps are applicable to iPhones as well.
