IPhone videos have no sound in iMovie preview

Movies imported into iMovie '09 (8.0.6) from iPhones (4&3GS) have no sound in preview when I click the spacebar, even iPhone clips that previously had sound no longer have sound in preview. Clips taken years ago with another camera still have sound in preview. All clips play fine in Quicktime in iPhoto. Clips have sound when dragged to the 'New Project' window in iMovie '09. I've clicked on the mute feature- which shows no volume when on and clips play.
Still have 150 GB of space on HD.

I have the SAME exact problem...it's very annoying.

I have a new iPhone 5C, have the sounds alerts set up. But I'm not getting sound alerts for new voicemail, only the red circle on the screen.  How can I make the sound alert work?

I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S.  I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds.  After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?"  I didn't even know such a function existed.  Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual.  If it is green, turn it off.  You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu).  I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere.  Good luck!

In yahoo, videos have no sound. How can I correct this?

I assume that the videos play and that only the sound isn't present, is that correct?
Did you check the volume icon on the Windows Task bar?
You can also check for problems with Flash local storage (some sites store the sound level in a Flash cookie).

Bought a new Mac Book Pro today running OSX 10.9.  I have noticed that all videos have scratchy sound.  I have tried both YouTube & Vimeo. iTunes has not been loaded yet.
    Ideas?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Music videos have no sound

I am wanting to play music videos but they don't have any sound when they play. I convert a music vid for Ipod. But by doing so it nolonger has sound on either the ipod or itunes. Can anyone help?

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • My iphone 3gs have no sound at all

my iPhone 3gs has no sound coming from it at all.Like when i play music get a msg a phone call there is jus no sound coming from it what so ever PLEASE HELP!!

Try restarting your device, hold the power button until "Slide to Power Off" shows up, click that and try turning the phone back on.
If that does not resolve it, try backing up your iPhone to your computer and restoring from your back-up.
If that does not resolve it, try restoring your iPhone as a NEW device.
And if none of these work, try taking it into a local Apple store and seeing if the Genius Bar will see you, it could be a hardware issue, and if it is in warranty the replacement should be covered.

  • No sound in iMovie preview

iMovie 09, Canon MV960 (mini DV) camcorder connected by firewire to MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.4. When previewing, controlling the camcorder via iMovie, there is no sound. The sound is on the camcorder when running playback disconnected from my Mac. I have checked all available sound settings both in iMovie as well as the camcorder settings, but without solving the problem. I also tried importing and playback, but there is still no sound coming from my MacBookPro. Unfortunately I'm not a frequent user of iMovie, this definitely worked fine without having to change any settings with earlier versions of iMovie as well as my older camcorder. I would be very grateful if anyone could suggest where the solution might be hiding?

    Hi
Just a thought - May be the old GarageBand trick still go for iM'09
    Close iMovie
    Open Garageband
    Play a few notes
    Close Garageband
Start iMovie and give it a new try.

  • Can't open movie to be edited. Also imported videos have no sound

One of my clips would not play, so i optimized it and then it worked. However today I tried to open my project and it won't let me open the entire project to edit. my project is there it just won't let me click "edit project". can i undo the optimizing thing? because now it automatically optimizes everything. I decided i would just restart but when i tried to import my video clips, there was no sound. I know that they have sound because they have been working before this big mess happened. my speakers are turned on. does anyone know how to get imovie back to its factory settings so i can get sound again or how to open my project?

Go to the map view. Click on the autoplay box and it will turn blue.
Click on the i at the bottom left of the iDVD window. This will bring up the information window where you can select loop for that box.

  • How to synchronize iPhone video and microphone audio in iMovie?

    1. I have video footage captured with an iPhone 5s (roughly 7 minutes of piano).
    2. I have audio footage captured with a third-party microphone (same 7 minutes of piano playing).
    3. I bring these two pieces of footage into iMovie and line them up at the beginning of the clips.
    4. When I start playing the movie, the video and audio are in sync. Towards the end of the movie, the video and audio are out of sync by roughly 0.5 - 1 second.
My question is how do I synchronize the iPhone and microphone footage in iMovie?
Is this a problem with the video captured with the iPhone?
Or is this a problem with iMovie not able to synchronize video and audio from multiple clips?
Note: I cannot use beat markers to solve this, because the piano playing does not fall on equal durations ("beats").

I cannot synchronize the Address Book and Calendar data, even by means of iCloud or similar servers.  It appears these data are not selected automatically during synchronization. How can one select Address Book and Calendar Book in Mavericks for synchronization ?

  • Videos have no sound!!

I've had my new i-pod video for about 10 days. First, I put two music videos into the itunes library, and transferred them to the ipod. When I tried to watch them, the video worked great, only there was no sound. I checked the volume and headphone jack. I never bothered checking it on itunes. I had never previously watched a video on itunes. Today, I discovered these podcasts. (Oh man, I love happy tree friends!) Anyway, Once they had finished downloading, I decided to watch them, that's when I realised it wasn't the ipod that had the problem. Once again, in itunes, there is no sound for the videos.. I tried watching those music videos i had downlaoded, and there was no sound. It's not the headphones. I'm not using any. When i play regular mp3's it works just like normal. I switch over the the podcasts, and videos but tehre is no sound anymore. I'm really frustrated and I've been trying to fix it for so long. I hear lots of people have this problem. Can someone pllleeasseee help me?!
(All videos function properly, and itunes and my ipod work perfectly aswell. It's only that there is no sound for the videos.)
    Thanks soo much!
      Windows XP

If I convert them to mpeg4 there is no sound.
This is a different problem entirely. If you use iTunes or Quicktime to convert an MPEG file to anything else, the sound is lost in the process. This is a side effect of how Quicktime works (I say it's a bug in Quicktime, personally).
I once made a post detailing two ways to convert MPEG videos into iPod compatible videos and keeping the sound in the process. Might try reading that:

  • Help! Converted music videos have no sound!

After converting a couple of music videos (using Advanced > Convert selection for iPod), I synched to my nano. The video played well on the nano but without sound. Played on iTunes, the converted videos are also without sound.
Can someone help me out here?

Hmmm...that's strange, I have no problems at all. I tried using the freebie version as I'm such a cheapskate and it worked perfectly except that every few seconds the words "Converted using an unregistered version" appeared over the video. This was so extremely annoying I promptly paid the US40 bucks for the registration. Now all my music videos work wonderfully.
Currently converting the Bruce Willis movie "Perfect Stranger" which I ripped from the DVD using the converter as well. I think paying 40 bucks is pretty steep especially since Apple should have packaged a workable converter but I must say that the AVS tools are pretty nifty.

  • Audio files and voice recordings have no sound in iMovie after a while, help?

I was editing and I was putting audio files and recording my voice fine then all of a sudden, audio files and voice recordings I were adding had no sound. The ones already put on had sound but when I tried to drag more audio files or record my voice, nothing. No sound. I tried restarting my Mac, didn't work. I changed the MP3 name to AIFF, didn't work. I'm using iMovie '11.

Hi PK - welcome to the forum!
Increasingly, people with digital still cameras want to import their short movie clips created with that camera. BUT the catch is that these movies are NOT in .dv format. They are MPEGs, and if they are MPEG1 or MPEG2 then they must be converted to DV before they will import into iMovie with the audio able to play.
This conversion usually can be done with a free app. called MPEG StreamClip, but may also need another piece of software called the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component (which costs about $20)..
A search in this forum for those, will give you several threads on the issue!
Look here, for example, for more about the method required:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
NOTE that iMovie was designed for DV use (a high-quality editing format), not the much lower quality MPEG footage.
