Iphone with existing unlimited texting family plan

Hi, I just got an iPhone today butt ATT has given me two different answers about my question:
I am on a family plan with 3 other family members. We have the 30 dollar unlimited text messaging that covers everyone. I was told by two people at ATT that if I picked the 20 dollar data pack for my iphone, even though it says I'll only get 200 sms texts a month, since we have unlimited texting on the family plan, the unlimited texting will override the 200 texts a month that the iphone offers.
I was also told by one person that this is not correct.. that the 20 dollars of 200 texts message will replace the unlimited texting (for only my line) that my family has.
ATT is closed right now so if anyone could give me some feedback asap I would be very happy! Thanks!

Yea, but isn't the data plan for the iPhone, iPhone specific. You know, so we can get our visual voicemail and things like that. I mean if it wasn't that way, then why would they make you have to buy it. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.
Ok, so you have unlimited testing for all the lines on your plan. Ok I got a little confused then, sorry about the date refrences.. I think though that what your saying about the number of texts will be correct. The rest of the lines on your plan will still have unlimited texts, but you'll be reduced to the 200 limit. You'll not have the Unlimited data as well, which is good if you surf the net a lot of the iPhone.

I have an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. Is there a way to go online with a wifi only iPad using my phone for access?

If your iPhone cell carrier allows you to use Tethering, you can turn your iPhone into a wifi hotspot, then your iPad Air can connect to that for internet access.  Not all cell carriers allow tethering without you signing up for additional fees/services.  For example, AT&T in the US still has grandfathered "unlimited" data plans, but they do not allow tethering for those plans.  With AT&T you need to switch to a Mobile Share plan (or a tiered plan if still available) to use tethering (legally).

  • I have iphone 5 and can not send a text to one person who has iphone 4s and on same family plan

All rebooting in between each new thing i did... Checked to see if sms is turned on ..yes and turned it off... turned of imessages and back on... rebooting in between.  Also signed out of and back into apple id. Also with reboots... did a soft reset.  Upgraded to ios 8 about 2 days ago... And a few times in last 10 days i could send for a few hours then it was gone again...... VERY frustrated at this point....Also i can text many others including iphones and so can she....

Thank you for reaching out to us, labrylao4. Regarding the issues with messaging, is this affecting only SMS, iMessages, or both? When you or her try to send each other messages, do you receive any error messages while it is sending? If it is for iMessages, have you tried to send while connected to WiFi?

  • Two iPhone questions (existing customer and data plan)

Hello, I have two questions about the iPhone. I am on a family plan with At&t. I don't pay my bill. I want to keep it that way. Will I just be able to take my sim card out of my phone and put it in the iPhone since it's AT&T? Or do I use a new sim card and when activating it choose existing customer?
My second question is I am wondering if it is possible to use an iPhone without the data plan. I know I will be missing visual voicemail and edge but I don't care. Also, will this make me get a thousand dollar bill if I accidentally press safari and don't have a data plan? Thanks.

You can't use the SIM from your existing phone. You would use the new SIM and activate as an existing customer.

You have to get the data plan and for $20 it's worth it, not only is it unlimited data but includes 200 text messages. Without the data plan, you'll pay for every voicemail you access, every text message, any time you check weather/email/youtube/etc. In a nutshell, the data plan covers a lot more than just using Safari to browse the web.

  • Syncing 2 iphones with Mobileme account and family pack account

I can't seem to get this answered.. I have a .mac (mobileme) account and I just upgraded the account to the family plan which give me 4 additional accounts. I am trying to sync the second email account up with my ical and contacts and I can't figure out how to accomplish this. The ical and contacts are under my email and not the family pack email. I would like to know how you share ical and contacts with multiple iphones..........

Probably, but that would result in much logging in and out as we both access the home computer many times in one day. Also, I find that Windows XP slows down a bit with multiple accounts. (Still haven't upgraded to Mac yet... It's coming!) I'll give it a shot when I get home and see if it works. Thank you.
Does anyone else have any experience with this setup?

  • Is there a way to transfer contacts from my 1 iphone to my 2nd iphone, both of my att family plan

I want to transfer my contacts from my 4GS phone to my 3GS phone. Both are on my family plan on AT&T. My husband also has a 4G Iphone.
Thank you for your help. I've tried everything. katmay43

Another option is to use the free app My Contacts Backup.  This will back up your contacts on your 4S as an email attachement.  Send this email to yourself, open it on your 3GS, tap the attachment and it will import the contacts.

  • Sync iPhone with existing iTunes

I have an existing iTunes on my home computer that I used with my iPod - mostly by ripping my existing CD music. Now I have an iPhone 5 that sync'ed with a different computer. I want to sync it with the existing iTunes on my home computer. When I connect the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes, it finds my account OK, but it doesn't show the home pages on my iPhone as I would expect. How can I sync the iPhone with that iTunes on the home computer?

    Hello kckjayhawk1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1202
You can manage your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music."

  • New Iphone with existing Contract...?

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first post so please forgive me if i posted it in the wrong section. I have the original iphone (2G) which i purchased over two years ago at an apple store in NY. I opened a two year contract online at the time with AT&T. However, my contract expired in February 2010, and I am currently on a month to month with AT&T. Currently i am paying $20.00 for unlimited data. My question is if i purchase the new Iphone 4G will i be forced into opening a new two year contract with their new data plan charges or can i just activate the phone and continue with AT&T on a month to month basis? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

AT&T sells the 3G and 3GS at the full retail sales price or at the no-commitment or no-contract price, which is the most expensive price. The iPhone can be activated on a post-paid month to month basis, but the data plan is required which costs $30/mo and does not include a 200 messaging allowance. The uimited data plan for the original iPhone which includes a 200 messaging allowance (SMS only) and costs $20/mo is a special unlimited data plan rate for the original iPhone only - not offered by AT&T for any other phone in the smart phone category.
AT&T may sell the next generation iPhone or 4th generation iPhone (which probably won't be a 4G network compatible phone) at the full retail sales price which won't require a 2 year contract if you are able and willing to pay the full retail sales price, but the data plan probably won't be optional.
If you buy the iPhone at AT&T's subsidized or discounted price, a two year contract will be required.

  • Sharing music purchsed on one iphone with others in a family group

Can music purchased on one iphone thru itunes be shared with other iphones in the family, that sync on the same laptop computer? we each have sep accts in itunes, under individul names in windows vista. Can music my son has purchased on itunes thru his iphone be shared?

you can have multiple devices setup to use the same iTunes account, which will give you access to all of the media on the computer (music, movies, photos, apps, etc).
you can have separate sync settings setup so music you want on your phone will not be the music your son wants on his phone, unless you listen to the same music.

  • Use new iPhone with existing EE pay monthly contract

I am 14 months into an EE pay monthly contract with an HTC One M8. If I buy an unlocked iPhone 6 direct from Apple, can I use it with my existing EE pay monthly SIM instead of the HTC?

You can use any device you wish, enjoy the iPhone

  • Use an iphone with existing account

I have an at&t prepaid wireless account. I want to know if i buy an iphone(for only $200:) will i be able to just put my sim card in and start using it. Or is there a special account that i must get to have an iphone?

A pre-paid account was allowed with or for the current iPhone, which wasn't subsidized by at&t in the traditional way. The iPhone 3G will be subsidized or discounted by at&t in the traditional way - which is why the price for the 8GB is only $199.
The only information provided at this point is a two year contract will be required for the iPhone 3G, which means a post paid account.
You should contact at&t customer support to confirm.

  • IPhone Family Plan Question?

I was wondering if I am a new AT&T wireless customer and I have 1 iPhone but I want to buy the $80 Family Talk Plan were do I choose that on iTunes?
The only one it could maybe be is the "Activate two or more iPhones on an Individual or Family Plan" But I only have 1 iPhone and I want my other line to be a normal AT&T phone. Any Suggestions?
    iMac bondie blue + PB 12' 1GHz + mac mini intel + MacBook 2.0GHz Black   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

But once you do that don't you pay $10 more because your an existing AT&T customer? so the plan comes out to $90 instead of $80

  • They eliminated our friends and family plan half-way through the contract without even telling me!!!

Whatever you do get it in writing, and even then, don't believe it! We switched to a 700 minute plan over a year ago and were told it included 10 friends and family numbers. My Verizon two months ago showed us over our minutes so I went in and updated our friends and family numbers to fix the problem. Last month everything was fine. This month it showed us over our minutes again but when I went in it said we weren't on the friends and family plan! I went to the store to figure out what was going on and they said we were never supposed to be on the friends and family plan. We have been on it for over a year now which can easily be seen in our records and it was sold to us that way. That's what we agreed to pay for. Their solution? Take care of overage fees for this month and give us 5 friends and family numbers for the remainder of the contract and that's after arguing for an hour. I'm disgusted with the dishonesty and Verizon will be losing our business when our contracts are up. To add insult to injury when I started discussing the problem with the clerk, she stopped me half way holding up her finger and went to sell something to a customer that had come in three minutes after me. She actually rang him up before finishing dealing with me to get her commission!!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!!! I'm done with this crappy company. We pay out the nose and regardless of how good the network may be, it's just not worth it. They tried to make it sound like they were doing us some grand favor by offering to upgrading us to a 1400 min per month plan at full price so we could get friends and family back! No thank you!!! We already had it!!!! Absolutely unethical. Now to add icing to the cake, I read that they are doing away with the unlimited wireless broadband plan that I was grandfathered in on. Yep, we are SO gone. What a dishonest way to run a company!!!!!!!! Buyer beware!!!!

And just to note, they have slowed down our internet speeds to the point of making them nearly impossible to use so just one more reason to be gone. Oh and did I mention that unless you have a data plan on your phone, to upgrade your phone is actually a downgrade this year??? The phones they are offering for talk and text customers are ridiculous! I went through the joy of trying to upgrade my phone and used my verizon a few months back. While in the process I clicked "only show options that are compatible with my current plan" to save time. I spent hours going through the phones and picked out a great one. When I went to check out it said that phone was not compatible with my current plan. Seriously???? I called and they said no smart phones were compatible. Great! But your website needs fixed and you just wasted hours of my life!!! Went back to look at the other phones that were offered that weren't smart phones and they were AWFUL! I really do hope a LARGE number of customers leave Verizon to show them that consumers won't put up with this kind of treatment!!

  • Is there any additional charges texting a person in Canada if I have unlimited texting?

    Hey everyone,
I have a phone plan with unlimited texting, and I feel if I contact Verizon they're just gonna give me a super confusing answer. I was wondering if it cost any extra money to text a person's phone in Canada if I live in the United States (Wisconsin) and I have unlimited texting. Some results on this site say no, other's say yes.
I just want a clear, clean cut answer of "Yes, it will cost extra to text a Canadian person if you live in the US and have unlimited texting." or "No, it won't cost extra to text a Canadian person if you live in the US and have unlimited texting."
    Thanks!
    Hunter

        pugsarecool,
Help has arrived! What exact plan do you currently have? Is it a Nationwide or More Everything share plan?
In most cases, text messages sent from the United States to Canada are covered at no additional charge as long as you have the unlimited text message plan.

  • What will happen to my unlimited 3G data plan if VZW gives me the Samsung Droid Charge 4G phone?

I currently have the Samsung Fascinate and the unlimited data plan, with a 20% corporate
discount .   The 2-year contract started when I bought the Fascinate in November 2010.
If I'm not mistaken, my unlimited plan is grandfathered in, even after Verizon changed the
    2GB limit for data plans.
There is no 4G service in my part of the state. There won't be 4G for at least 2 years,
according to the Verizon corporate store manager.  My part of the state was the second
to last to get 3G on the east coast.
If I take Verizon's offer and accept the Samsung Droid Charge 4G as a replacement phone,
what will happento my existing unlimited 3G data plan?   Can they activate the 4G phone
    on a 3G data plan?
Will the 4G phone pick up 4G signal when I travel to a major city with 4G service? (nearest
city with 4G is 230 miles away)

    SFObrien wrote:
If I understand their policy correct you will continue your current unlimited 3G plan and have access to 4G in coverage areas as long as you DON'T change your plan. If you change your plan new rates will apply.
Can one of the Verizon guys here verify this?
    Consider it verified, Steve!
