IPhoto 11 deleting some keywords

Hi all,
Yesterday I started trying to add keywords to my photos in iPhoto. It went well for about 100 photos, then started getting a bit wonky.
If I added keywords a, b, c, d to a photo and then clicked outside the keyword box (say, to add location data, which was not doing well with batch editing), 2 of the keywords would just disappear. It was the same two keywords for every photo. I'd have to go back and add them again and then they'd stay.
Any idea what's going on there?

I applied the keywords (2 of them twice to make them save) to a photo.
I exported it to my download folder, making sure it was a jpeg and that the "titles and keywords" box was checked.
I exported a few photos that would require the same keywords (but had none) to the download folder.
I closed iPhoto, then reopened it holding down the option key. I made a new library and then imported the file with the keywords and the other 3 without.
I added keywords to the other 3 photos in this new library.
For two photos, I added the keywords from the grid view (all 4 photos were on the screen) and the same behavior occurred - those two keywords disappeared as soon as I clicked out of the box. For one photo, I needed to add a face and when I did so, it enlarged that photo to fill the screen. I added the keywords while it was the only photo on the screen and it took all 4 keywords without deleting any.
I reproduced this in the original library as well. It will add the keywords if that's the only photo on the screen, but will delete those two if I'm adding keywords to a photo that's in grid view.

  • IPhoto, deleting some not all photos

I imported photos into iPhoto but I only want to delete some from iPhone. iPhoto shows that I already imported all my photos. It gives me the option to delete all my photos since they are already imported. However, I want to keep some of the photos on my iphone.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Iphoto deleted some pictures from both iphone and iphoto.

I marked some photos to import to iphoto. Iphoto asked if I wanted to delete these photos from iphone and i klicked yes.
Iphoto then deleted all of my photos from my iphone.
I cannot find that itunes has made a copy before either.
    what do i do?

did the computer drash during the import? are the photos in the Last Import" list
I cannot find that itunes has made a copy before either.

  • IPhoto deleted important keywords and over 1000 tags!

I have an extensive list of keywords and two of my most used keywords have suddenly disappeared, along with the tagging of the photos! Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a way to get my hours of tagging work back?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The tip at the end of my signature may help to resurrect the library in case this happens again.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto deletes city/state/country geotags! Any way to recover?

    Hi,
It seems like iPhoto deletes some geotagging-specific EXIF tags when creating a "modified" version of a picture! (Steps to reproduce appear below.)
Is there any way to go through and restore the "original version's" geography-related EXIF tags to the "modified version" for all photos in my library? (For example, does Automator have access to the EXIF tags?)
    Thanks!
    To reproduce the bug:
    1. Take a photograph. Use a 3rd party program -- I use HoudahGeo -- to add geographic information to the photo's EXIF tags. Insert data into the City, Province, and Country fields.
    2. In Finder, click on the photo and hit command-i. Note that the city, province, and country data appears in the "More Info" panel of the "Get Info" window.
    3. Import the file into iPhoto.
    4. Note that dragging the file out of iPhoto and then repeating step 2 yields the same result, as it should.
    5. Enhance or otherwise edit the photo in iPhoto.
    6. Note that if you repeat step 4 -- i.e. drag the file out of iPhoto and then hit command-i --, the city, province, and country data is missing.

    Hi,
I'm not sure that I fully understand the difference between these two types of metadata.
If I open the original picture in Graphic Converter and view the EXIFTool readout, I see these tags repeated three times:
    -Once under the "IPTC" heading
    -Once under the "XMP-iptcExt" heading
    -Once under the "XMP-photoshop" heading
If I open the "modified" version, the city, province, and state tags are missing from all three places.
(I'm assuming that since it's EXIFTool telling me this data that these are indeed EXIF tags, but hopefully, the above should clarify what I'm talking about.)

  • Iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  When I deleted some, I found that the event still shows up with a blank frame.  Can I move some photos to an external hard drive but leave the pointer in iphoto?

iphoto: How to safely delete or move photos.  I have over 7000 photos.  I would really like to move tsome of the older photos to an external hard drive. (They are backed up in Time Machine, but I like the immediacy of having them available.)  So question 1 -  is it possible to split the iphoto library so that the directory tree points to an external drive in some cases?  And if that doesn't work--I am willing to export and delete some of these photos.  However, an earlier delete left me with events that have a name in the event folder, but no photos.  Question 2 -- How do I properly delete photos so that all references disappear?
    example:

Warning: Time Machine is not an Archiving application. It keeps rolling back ups. That means if you delete something from the source Mac it will eventually be also deleted from Time Machine. How long that takes depends on the amount of disk space TM has. So, remember, backing up in Time Machine is not the same as Archiving.
For the blank thumbnails: This can happen if you try delete too many photos at one go. Experienced users suggest you should delete in batches of 100 or so.
Yes you can split the Library, where some of the Masters are stored locally and some on an external disk, but really, you don't want to do that. iPhoto's file management tools are limited at best, and if the path to the files changes then you could find yourself repairing the links to the files - all of them, one by one.
Better: Have your entire Library on an External Drive.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you want to have a smaller library on your internal disk:
Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • I have two related keyword problems.  Some keywords get "broadcast" to every photo in an event.  It's almost impossible to delete these keywords from individual photos.  I select the keyword, hit delete and it reappears after a few seconds.

I have two related problems with keywords in iphoto 11.  Sometimes, keywords get magically "broadcast" to every photo in an event or album.  It's difficult to delete these keywords.  If I select one and try to delete it it vanishes.  About half the time, it reappears again either in a couple of seconds or after I go to another photo and then return to the previous one.  When thios happens, I need to delete the keyword two or more times before it actually vanishes.  With several hundred photos in an event that all have a bad keyword, this is a tedious process.  I've tried rebuilding the library once, but with only the first (I think) option checked on the rebuild.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Web Gallery strangely rearranging/deleting some photos in iPhoto 7.0.2?

Hi - I created a Web Gallery with iPhoto and .mac... Now whenever I try and edit the gallery in iphoto it duplicates, rearranges, and even sometimes deletes photos at randomly. I'll move one photo to the first position, and 5 seconds later it will automatically rearrange the photos randomly. Occasionally when I open iPhoto all/some of the photos in the Web gallery will have been duplicated. When it duplicates a picture in the Web Gallery folder, deleting one duplicate for some reason deletes BOTH.
Anyone else experiencing this? Know what to do about it? It makes the .Mac Web Gallery totally and completely unusable.

    Jeremy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. See if that will correct the problem.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Iphoto deleted all my masters, any way to recover them? PLEASE HELP!!

Iphoto deleted all my masters and I cant seem to find them, is there any way to recover them? Iphoto 11 version. The only pictures that are left are some previews and some thumbnails.

    Try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
    If that fails continue with:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

I am having problems gettting my mail to work ... Mac telling me that my start up disk id full and to delete some files to free up space ... have done this but when i open mail from the dock it just brings up the colour wheel and nothing happening ... it shows when you right click on the mail icon that " application not responding"

If your hard drive is getting full, you need to free up, at least, 20 GBs of space on your iMac's hard drive.
If your Mac is running a fairly recent version of OS X, here are some general guidelines.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it run the automatic ans S.M,A.R.T. tests,  then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the tabs that have the ability to clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • How do I access pictures from my iPhone saved in iCloud so that I can delete some of them from iCloud selectively?.

How do I access pictures from my iPhone saved in iCloud in a computer so that I can see & delete some of them from iCloud to free up the free 5GB?.

What Mac model do you have? What system version and iPhoto version are you running?  Do you meet these requirements:
The following is for this Apple document: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What do I need to use Photo Stream?
To use Photo Stream, including Shared Photo Streams, you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6.0 or later
Mac with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later and iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later
PC with Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and the iCloud Control Panel 2.1 or later for Windows
Apple TV (2nd generation) with Software Update 5.1 or later
You can still use Photo Stream without Shared Photo Streams if your devices meet these requirements:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.1 or later
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and iPhoto 9.2.2 or Aperture 3.2.3 or later
PC with Windows 7 or Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and the iCloud Control Panel v2.0 or later for Windows
Apple TV (2nd generation) with Software Update 5.0 or later
If you do then sign in to the same iCloud account that's on your iPhone on your Mac via the System/iCloud Preference pane as shown in this screenshot:
Next setup iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane as shown in this screenshot:
The photos on your iPhone must be in it's Photo Stream so make sure the iPhone has enabled Photo Stream as shown below:
Now you can select a photo in the Photo Stream section of iPhoto and control-click on it to delete it:
