IPhoto Library duplicated - HELP!

My iPhoto library has duplicated (do not know who did what to my computer) and now i have over 19,000 pictures when i only had about 8,000 in it last night. it looks like i now have deleted pictures, originals, altered pictures - how do i revert back to my originals only without having to manually delete 1 by 1?

Did you create a new library and import the old one? Doing that will create multiple duplicates of each modified file and import them as regular originals.
Duplicate Annihilator can search you library and indentify duplicates. However, I found that with a situation like I described above, it would often identify a modified as the original and the original as the modified duplicate. So use DA with care. I set it up to add a comment, duplicate to those it thought were dups and Orig to those it identified as the original. These terms were added to the comments field in iphoto and could be search by the text search box at the bottom or a smart album.
I may not have set DA up correctly but I do suggest you not have it move the dups to iPhoto's trash but add the terms to the comment file. A lot safer that way.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why is my iPhoto Library duplicating photos

why is my iPhoto library duplicating photo's, sometimes 3 times ?

Your iPhoto library is not duplicating anything. Give virtually no information the only guess is that you imported an old iPhoto library into a new one.  NEVER import one photo library into another one. If you did and still have the old library you can easily recover. Drag the library you messed up to the desktop and drag the old library to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto

I can not enable selected photos to sync to my iphone 5. It is greyed out. I do not want to sync my entire iPhoto library.. help!

Guys, I found another user and what he said to do worked!!! I have copied the information below:
This was 1 of the things that happend to me too, the other one was that at the bottom of the itunes page were it says all the memory info, it marked that I had over 3gb of other memory wich I didn't.
Anyways what I did was to unmark the calendar, contacts etc. ( so that they wont sync with the computer ), pressed apply,  then I marked all of them again, apply again and for last I pressed Sync wich is at the bottom right coner by the apply botton.
I'm not sure that had anything to do with it but it worked, my music appeard both of my itunes playlists and the ones I bought in itunes.  Also the other memory dissapeard and it's all good.
I'm not sure this will help you but thats my 5 cents, if the problem continues its better to call customer service and ask for a technician.
Hope your problem gets solved. Have a nice day.

  • Time Machine corrupted iPhoto library? Help!

    Hi,
I need some advice. It appears that I have lost thousands of photos. I know that's not true cos I have a Time Machine backup, but I want to run my situation past you before trying to recover my library. You see, I had a Time Machine backup error. Actually, scratch that, I had a problem with iPhoto not showing some particular photos. They showed up as just a dotted outline, yet when I chose 'show original file' or clicked to edit the photo, it appeared. So, the photos were there, but the thumbnails had a problem.
After some time spent searching for a fix, I started iPhoto with the command and option keys pressed and chose all options to rebuild iPhoto. This looked like it was gonna take some time (I have over 4500 photos) so I left it alone and went to bed. In the morning, iPhoto appeared to be fixed but Time Machine had reported an error while backing up. I clicked ok, did a new backup by clicking 'backup now' which worked fine and carried on as usual.
I've used iPhoto some more today and then, this evening, another TM backup failed. I tried again, and it failed again. I searched the internet to figure out why and discovered how to view the log file. This reported this: Jun 19 21:22:59 lee-webbs-intel-imac /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[10907]: Error: (-8062) SrcErr:NO Copying /Users/leewebb/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library6.iPhoto to /Volumes/Time Machine Backup/Backups.backupdb/Lee Webb’s intel iMac/2010-06-19-210546.inProgress/5A645817-7095-47FC-A658-A447B5A5814C/mac hd/Users/leewebb/Pictures/iPhoto Library

So, something seems to be wrong with the iPhoto library. I reckon that the rebuild process was somehow interrupted/corrupted by a TM backup. Following some instructions I found in C3 here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057525 I ran a verify on my TM backup drive. This returned with OK. I then excluded my iPhoto library from my backup and ran the backup again. It worked fine, which would confirm that the iPhoto library is indeed the problem. Good. Ok. So, that's where I am now. Except it isn't. When I now start up iPhoto, my library has shrunk down to 748 photos! Eeek! What's happened, and what can I do about it? In iPhoto, those 748 photos add up to 1.4gb yet the iPhoto library file is still 12.87gb.
    Please can you help me.
I just want to make sure I do the right thing instead of panicking. I've switched off my TM backup for now.

  • Mac Mini wont start after power outage, and problem copying iPhoto library. HELP!

So, recently there was a power outage in my neighborhood, the power was intermitent for about 2 hours, during this time my mac rebooted itself several times, but on the second time it rebooted the power went out during boot, then the power finally went out for good, it was back in about 3 hours, but when i finnaly turned on my mac it got stuck at the Apple logo with a spinning wheel and a progress bar that wouldnt go past 40%, when i boot holding command -v it said that there were a lot of errors which were automatically fixed, except for one, "Incorrect Thread records" or something like that.
I have another partition with Mountain Lion installed for emergencies, the other one with Lion became inaccessible to mountain lion or any other OS X version, but oddly enough, I can access my Lion partition via HFSexplorer and see all my files untouched.
My main concern are my pictures in iPhoto, and thats about 36Gb of data, I want to backup them to my windows pc by copying the whole iPhoto library package, but HFSexplores for some reason cant copy the folders with date (XX/XX/XXXX) with the /, and it keeps changing them to XX_XX_XXXX and I know that would pretty much break my iPhoto library!
I googled my drive problem and people said that I need a Disk Utility called DiskWarrior, but I cant seem to find how to to use it, I got a copy from a friend, it was the digital version of the boot disk which need to be burned to a dvd.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for the bad english

  • Iphoto library manager - help!?!

    hi all
not sure exactly how or why but i have 2 iphoto libraries on my mac - iPhoto Library and iPhoto Library old
i am working on mergign the 2 libraries - i purchased  iPhoto Library Manager and it has been runny for almost 2 day (sheesh!  too many pics)
well..... what happens when it is done and all my pics are in the 'Merged Library"
did it physicall move all my pics form both libraries or did it just copy them into a 3rd library?
do i delete/remove both - iPhoto Library and iPhoto Library old
and what do i do to set my new Merged Library as my primary, one and only iPhoto Library?
thanks in advance for reading and helping me out!!!
    =) joeanna

Type iPhoto into the search window at the top and see how much CPU iPLM is using.  Click on the Disk Activity button at the bottom and see if there is any disk activity.  The graph will show if there is any.
If iPLM is plugging along on its task its CPU usage will be high and the disk activity graph should show the line to be rather high on the chart.
If it appears that there is no activity then things have stalled and you can quit out of iPLM.

  • Missing Photos from my Iphoto library, Please Help!

#1 Woke up yesterday and noticed there are many pictures missing from my Iphoto library.
#2 The folders are still there but there are NO picture in some of them EVEN though my total picture count remains the same. About 25k pics.
#3 I do a google and some forums suggest "rebuilding" the photo album THROUGH my Iphoto Photo Library.
#4 I go ahead and start the rebuilding process which seems conceivably at the rate its going, it might take maybe a full day or more!!
#5 My laptop FREEZES for some mucked up reason at about 5500 photos rebuilt so far. I am forced to force quit Iphoto and RESTART the whole process.
#6 Now during the "rebuild" process. The process stops at and ONLY recognizes up to the 5500 photos.
#7 Now my library ONLY says 5500 photos instead of the 25k
#8 All of my photo FOLDERS still remain.
#9 A little tidbit, I don't know why but my external 2tb hd is somehow connected to my Iphoto, where if my EX HD is not connected I will be missing many photos from my mac laptop Iphoto Library while disconnected.
#10 2 things, I have not backed up my library since Dec 2010, BUT i also have added very little photo since then.
PLEASE HELP ME KIND MAC PEOPLE, What can I do? Where have all my photos in my library gone? Why will it only rebuild now only to 5500 photos. Please shoot my some ideas and help if you can. Thank you very much for your kind advice and help! Humbly "Devastated" for these photos are work and family irreplacable :[

It is unlikely that your problem is a corruped preference file - the correction for that is
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
It is likely that you have a corrupted library - and backups are NOT just to protect against hardware failures
Note - things fail - software - computers - people - and if you do NOT always have a current backup you will lose all of your photos and other data sooner or later
And the managed library has NOTHING to do with the library you have selected - it has to do with iPhoto preferences you have selected -
Were the "missing" photos only missing when the EHD was no tavailable as you implied?
and do you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - if htat option checked or unchecked?

  • Complete novice at LR. Just imported iPhoto library - please HELP!

I have just installed LR and imported my iPhoto library.
LR has created hundreds of folders - one for every day!
Also I now have alphabetised collections for each of my iPhoto events (these were previously in date order)
I wanted my folders to be  - year > month > event.
Is there any easy / quick way to do this? How to I make a collection into a folder?
If its a lot of work - is to worth it or should I just give up and return LR and go back to iPhoto.
    Feeling overwhelmed. Help appreciated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

  • Need iPhoto library management help

I've been trying to organize and archive my photos and videos for the past few weeks. I have well over 250GB, spread over several iPhoto libraries on an external drive. Many of those libraries contain duplicate images, and are taking up way too much space. I am looking for an app that will scan multiple iPhoto libraries stored on an external drive for duplicates, so I can remove them and consolidate all of my libraries in the smallest amount of space possible.
I haven't had luck with: Dupe guru, Duplicate cleaner for iPhoto, Photos Duplicate Cleaner or iPhoto library manager. I know that I had found one before that scanned the libraries and showed me which duplicate images were on which library and gave me the option to delete them. That was a while ago, and at that point, I hadn't organized things to the point that I was ready to start deleting. It may be one of the apps listed above that I'm just not using correctly. If so, and if someone can walk me through getting started doing it the right way, it would be much appreciated. If not, and there is a different app available, please let me know which one it is & I'll try it.
Not sure if this matters, but I'm using OS X 10.7.5, iPhoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424)
    Thanks in advance.

Duplicate Finder apps for iPhoto all search the contents of one library for duplicates. There is none that compare across Libraries.
If you are seeking to consolidate your Libraries, then using Library Manager to merge them can be done while also eliminating duplicates.

  • Having trouble restoring iphoto via Iphoto Library Manager HELP

I have been trying to restore I photo ( cant open it just spins) I downloaded Iphoto Library Manager as directed in other discussions but when I click add library there is nothing to choose from unless I choose manually (wouldn't know what to choose) There left side does have a check next to Default Library...and all my photos show up.  I really need these pics & hopefully my videos too ( Many are of my daughter that died and these are my only memories)

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto and iPhoto Library Mgr help

Hi, I have an iMac and Iphoto version 8.1.2.  About a month ago I tried to log on to Iphoto to view some pictures I previously successfully downloaded.  Iphoto wouldn't open and prompted me to rebuild my library.  After reading posts on these boards, I decided to rebuild the library, and Iphoto now loads after a long time, but there are no photos in there.  After reading several more posts on these boards, I downloaded Library Manager today.  When I tried to rebuild the library, it said that no photos were found.  There are clearly photos available on my hard drive, and I see that I have a file named "album.data.xml."  I also back up to Time Machine so I assume the photos are there, but I haven't touched that yet.  What should I do next?  Thanks for your advice.

Right click on the iPhoto library and show package contents - look (do not tourch or change anything) in the masters folder - are your photos there?

  • Upgrading to iPhoto '08 - what's going wrong with my iphoto Library

    Hi,
I would appreciate your advice/knowledge on this problem.
==> Short Description of my problem:
I can't recover the keywords associated with my pictures. I am asked to import my pictures although I choose to open my previous iPhoto Library after converting to iPhoto 08.
    ==> What I did:
    1. I recently upgraded my mac to Leopard, and then to iPhoto'08. When opening for the 1st time iPhoto '08, I selected my iPhoto Library (as I held the option key while opening iPhoto).
    2. I then get the message: “The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.” I clicked on the "Upgrade" button
    3. My Mac then loaded/created ALL my previous albums and smart albums (including the most recent ones). It loaded pictures up to April 2005. BUT then, it prompted me with the following message : "5584 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that are not a part of this photo library. Would you like to import them?". I was surprised to get this message, as I read that the upgrade should run smoothly.
    4. I made two tests, following this prompt. First, I answered "YES". I ended with a 24.5 GB iPhoto Library (instead of my previous 12.64 GB library). Then, while repeating steps 2&3, I answered No. I then decided to import manually my missing pictures, and ended up with a 14,4 GB (surprisingly, I got events called originals that contained same pictures than other created events). I have repeated the steps 2 to 4 from a new user account, but got the same results.
    5. None of these solutions are satisfactory as I had assigned keywords to my 5000+ photo. What is going wrong? Here is the content of my iPhoto Library (before conversion), if this is of any help:
In my iPhoto Library Oct 23, 2007:
    folder 2000 Oct 18, 2007
    folder 2004 Feb 13, 2005
    folder 2005 Jan 29, 2006
    folder 2006 Jan 7, 2007
    folder 2007 Oct 23, 2007
    AlbumData.xml Apr 17, 2005
    folder Album Nov 11, 2007
    Dir.data Apr 9, 2005
iPod Photo cache Nov 11, 2006
    iPhoto.db Apr 17, 2005
    Library.iPhoto Apr 9, 2005
    Thumb32.data Apr 9, 2005
    Thumb64.data Apr 9, 2005
    ThumbJPG Apr 9, 2005
This library is an external-drive backup copy of my HD photo library (that no longer exists).
    ==> What to do next?
    1. How to check if my keywords information is still present in my original iPhoto library? Is there any solution to get back my photo with their keywords?
    2. Manage my iPhoto library with a smaller quantity of pictures, to ease backup and conversion. I have understood that iPhoto Libray Manager is a convenient free software to merge/de-merge libraries. Is that correct?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nicolas

    NicoSou
This sounds to me like your v5 library is corrupted.
Try using the rebuild command from iPhoto Library Manager to recreate the library - it won't get everything, but should get albums and keywords. Read the iPhoto Library Manager Help for more details.

  • How do I fix a messed-up iPhoto Library?

I have been using iPhoto since version 1. In the early days when iPhoto's performance was severely crippled by large number of photos I used iPhoto Buddy (v1.3) to create separate Libraries. As iPhoto matured and got more efficient at handling large libraries around 2005, I decided to merge my separate (organized by year) Libraries into a single, large Library. I have obviously failed miserably since I now find photos scattered all over my hard drive.
In the Pictures folder I have five iPhoto Libraries: 1) iPhoto Library (7.5 GB, my latest photos) 2) iPhoto Library 2001 (360MB), 3) iPhoto Library 2002 (160MB), 4) iPhoto Library 2003 (202MB) and 5) iPhoto Library Archive (513MB). I understand that the underlying iPhoto Library architecture has changed over time and my earlier Libraries, generated prior to iPhoto '06, are fundamentally different from the more current Libraries (I am now using iPhoto '08 v7.1.5). The first two Libraries in the above list are packages (i.e., newer format) while the others are separate folders with subsequent sub-folders. My most recent photos are so deeply buried in my screwed-up file structure that it practically impossible to find individual original files. For example, here is the path-name to a recent photo: User/kmf/Pictures/iPhoto Library/2003/10/04/iPhoto Library 2004/Data/2008/November 21, 2008!!
How do I restore some order to this mess. My wife is mad at me because she can't find some of her original photo files without needing to drill deep into the file structure. Can a program like iPhoto Library Manager help, although it sounds very much like the iPhoto Buddy application that got me into this mess in the first place? Help.

Welcome to the Apple user assistance forums
first - you should never be using the finder to look at or move photos
I'd start by launching iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and using the select library option and see what libraries you can find that iPhoto likes - open each one and verify it - and then download iPhoto Library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and use the paid version to merge the ones you just found into one new library
Once you have a know good library that contains all of the photos from good libraries then back it up and delete the libraries that you merged to create it
Then spotlight "Originals" and see if you find any originals folders from old libraries - if you do take a look at them and see if it looks like you want the photo from them in your "new" library - if you find ones you want drag them (of the folder if you want the entire folder) to iPhoto to import them
Then if you believe there are still photos not in the new library you will have to use spotlight to find JPEGs that are not in the new library and import them
Once you get things like you want my personal suggestion is to keep everything in one big library - and back up often
I only use secondary libraries for projects (books, etc) and testing
    Good Luck

  • I needed idvd, but since my iMac is newer, I didn't have idvd on it. I installed iLife 11. I should not have installed the iPhoto part because it was 9.1 and my iMac was 9.2. So now my iPhoto wouldn't work. I went to iPhoto Library organizer.

I shouldn't have installed the iPhoto part because now my iPhoto wouldn't work since iLife 11 was 9.1 and my iMac had 9.2. So I used iPhoto Library Manager to create a new library. That was working, but my computer ran out of hard drive room since my original iPhoto had 137 GB of photos. My new iPhoto library had the majority of my pics and the iPhoto now worked with those pics. But now I still had all of those original pics in my hard drive. I thought that by getting rid of the original iPhoto on the iPhoto Library Manager I would get rid of all of those original pics. I now have no access to them but they are in my hard drive and I can't do much with my iMac because it is all clogged up with those original pics - I think. How do I get rid of my original iPhoto pics out of my hard drive?

What system are you running?  If it's Mt. Lion go to the App Store and sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the Mac.  Go to Purchases and download iPhoto again. The current version is 9.4.3.
If you're unable to download iPhoto from the App Store you can reomstall iPhoto from the iLife 11 disk and  update it from the Apple Downloads website  to the highest version you can get to (I was able to update all the way to 9.4.3 via the updaters). Then if iPhoto can't open the library  use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild it and it will rebuild it compatible with your version of iPhoto via this iPLM tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto
