IPhoto says " no pics ". Events is pitch black, Photos is white, and I can't restore my Library .

iPhoto says " no pics " at the bottom of the screen.
But Events is pitch black ( why ), Photos is white ( normal ), and I can't restore my Library .
When I want to restore the Library,  it is said that it is already there ... Where ?

I now can't open iPhoto! have just updated it, downloaded everything they asked for and still can't open it!

To be able to help, we will need more details.
What is your current iPhoto version, Anthony?  And your MacOS X version? And what was the iPhoto version you upgraded from?
What happens, when you try to open your iPhoto library?
have just updated it, downloaded everything they asked for and still can't open it!
You say, you downloaded everything - did you download the Library upgrader? And did you install and run it? Was there any error message?
If your iPhoto library has been upgraded ny the upgrader, you should be able to upgrade it to your current iPhoto version by double clicking it to launch iPhoto on it. Have you tried that?  What happens when you try?
One problem to check for - iPhoto may be unable to open your iPhoto library, if it is not on a dsk formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled). Check the formatting of the drive with your iPhoto library.

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

Be good to know what the diagnostic results are.
I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

  • Update for iphoto ....and i can't find my library or any of my pictures!

    Hello Wayne,
well recently did the update for iphoto ....and i can't find my library or any of my pictures! I tried the same procudere that you suggested for numbers and pages, but that did not work. I don't even see the previous iphoto...Do you have any suggestions for this?
    Thank you.
    Edna

Sorry but you need to give details to get help. What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? What upgrade did you just do? Who is Wayne - never sevens anyone named Wayne in this forum? What was the procedure tat was recommended (I doubt that any trouble shooting hints for numbers or pages would apply to iPhoto)?

It sounds like you have restrictions turned on on the device.  Settings>General>Restrictions.

If you can access the device: Tap Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings.
If you can't do that then you need to Restore it as New:
Locked Out, Forgot Lock or Restrictions Passcode, or Need to Restore Your Device: Several Alternative Solutions
    1. iOS- Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    2. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    3. Restoring iPod touch after forgotten passcode
    4. What to Do If You've Forgotten Your iPhone's Passcode
    5. iOS- Understanding passcodes
    6. iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help
You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
Also, see iTunes- Restoring iOS software.
You can also try using DFU mode:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Had to restore my Mac Book with Snow Leopard. My i Life disc appears to be damaged, and I can't restore my iPhoto application. I have searched for downloads but all appear to be upgrades. Any ideas on how to restore iphotos

Given what you describe you will have to upgrade Snow Leopard by downloading and installing Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then go to the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID. Purchase and download Mountain Lion to upgrade your OS. Then purchase the latest upgrades for the iLife applications which includes iPhoto.
Or you can go on eBay, Google, or Amazon and purchase another copy of the DVD based iLife.

  • IPhoto says iPhone pics are improper format

For some reason, when I try to import from the iPhone to iPhoto, only two pics show up in the thumbnail view (actually, just frames where the pics would be) even though I've taken many more.
When I try to import, iPhoto tells me that the pics are improper format and cannot be imported.
Any clues? (phone is 2.0 but not 3G)

I have this same issue. When opening iPhoto 7.1.4 with the iPhone (v 2.0 software), pictures that have not yet been imported into iPhoto appear as gray outlines in the main window. Attempting to import new images results in an error dialog box stating that pictures were not imported due to improper format. I also get a list of the images not imported.
These images show up fine in the iPhone Photos app. I've imported to iPhoto from the iPhone many times before with no incident. Other users have reported this issue recently -- some fixes suggested:
    1) reboot the iPhone (turn off by holding the sleep button on upper right until the shutdown slider appears. turn off the iPhone, then turn on again.)
    2) reset - hold down the power and home key simultaneously.
    3) trash the iPhoto prefs (haven't tried this yet)
    4) rebuild the iPhoto catalog (I'm using a third party app from FatCat software to make a backup and new catalog now -- it's taking a while)
    http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
There doesn't seem to be any official Apple fix for this problem, although it seems to be related to the 2.0 upgrade. I don't have enough info to be able to pinpoint the cause or a proper fix yet. More when I do. I'm getting rather irritated at Apple's high-handed Microsoftian approach to user problems these days. Their "knowlege base" is usually useless. Thank god for user forums!

  • Trying to rebuild my iphoto library from time machine backup and it still says 0 restored with a grey screen and the circle. How can i restore my library?

I just bought a new Macbook pro and i tried to rebuild my iphoto library from a time machine backup on an external hard drive. Even after pressing command+option when starting iphoto and selecting rebuild library from automatic backup, it still doesn't work with the grey screen with the white circle and a little window that says 'rebuilding library: 0 versions restored'. I also tried to make a copy of my iphoto library but that did not work either. how can i restore my iphoto library or at least gain access to my photos?

    Your question is not clear
Rerairing or rebuilding the iPhoto library never involves using Time Machine in any way
TM is a totally seperate program and you can "restore" a file (including the iPhoto library) from the past using TM - you launch TM and go back to the time you want and select the file (or folder or package) you want and click restore - it probably is best to keep the current one until you are sure everything is good

  • I have never activated time machine and my entire iPhoto library is missing. How can I restore the library from the last back up??

I am using a MacBook Pro version 10.7.5.
Ive just noticed my entire iPhoto library is missing except for tonights last sync.
I have never activated Time Machine. I am worried if i activate it now, i would have no chance of retrieving my iPhoto library.
Can i restore the iPhoto library from the laptops memory? Or have i clicked the wrong thing while syncing, with no chance of seeing my life again?

I was distracted at the time and have forgotten but I thought it was something like "are you sure you would like to replace all photos on this divise for the ones in your iPhoto library" I was confident as both the comp and my phone have been together for years now.
Im questioning wether the iPhoto program had its own problem before tonights sync. Syncing photos is something i would do regularly without problems, but I've had about a six month break.
Luckily i have made some folders and copied photos out of the iPhoto program. iPhoto was my default photo program and had so many photos from my travelling.
Also I remembered Facebook syncs photos privately, I trying to go way back in time to see if there are any i can save there.
I respect your honesty, if you believe there is no way i can get the program back to normal just say so.
