IPhoto sharing only works 1 way ?!?

Hi,
I've got a MacMini and a MacBook Pro both running the latest and greatest version of Leopard (10.5.6) and iLife '09. Now I want to share the iPhoto library from the MacMini to the MBP and that does not work, the library does not show up in iPhoto. The weird thing is that the other way around (MBP -> MacMini) does work (library of MBP shows up in iPhoto on MacMini)
I checked if there was a firewall issue by disabling the firewall
Still no luck and with the firewalls running it does work from the MBP->MacMini.
Any ideas on how I can investigate this any further?
As additional info, I have a similar problem with iTunes sharing...
Thanks,
Gero

Hi,
You can ignore this question. I'm now sure that the problem is not related to the software, but is has to do 'something' with the network setup.
I had the MacMini connected with cable and the MacBook Pro wireless. When I also connected the MacBook pro with a cable it works. Need to check my DSL router now....

  • Does Home Sharing only work over wi-fi?

This may seem like an odd question, but I think it may be the root of my problem. I have a network that uses three Devolo mains network extenders in various rooms (the house has very thick walls). All three Devolo mains plugs connect (via the ring main) to the router. An iMac, laptops, an Apple TV, iPhones, etc each connect wirelessly to these very happily.
However, no two computers (say an MBA and an iMac) in the same room, or different rooms, can 'see' the other in the normal way - i.e. by having the other device appear in the left hand pane of the finder window. They can, however, if I enter the IP address of the other machine manually. So this is irritating but not insurmountable.
What does appear insurountable though is that, in a similar way, iTunes cannot 'see' any shared libraries across the network. Because of the issue described above, I had assumed that both problems were probably being caused by some sort of issue with the way the Devolo boxes are configured. But then I realised that, even though each device is connecting wirelessly to the Devolo boxes, I don't actually have a wi-fi network in the same sense that I would if I had an Airport-based system...and if Home Sharing only works over wi-fi, this might explain why it doesn't work for me.
Apologies for the rambling question, but given the increasing popularity of these mains network-extender boxes, I feel I can't be alone in experiencing these issues. Can anyone shed any light?

The quick answer to your question is no, for example Home Sharing works over Ethernet as well. Strictly speaking Wi-Fi is not required and iTunes doesn't care either way.
However, I understand that the Devolo mains adapters have problems coping with this. If I had to guess, the problem might be an inability to carry the required bandwidth. The reason for this is that Airtunes is fairly demanding of bandwidth and if your wireless network's performance is degraded due to any number of variables, Airtunes is the first to suffer.
You didn't say what kind of computer or OS you are using but Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP ports 123 and 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries. Those ports need to be configured in whatever firewall or security settings you may be using. If you are certain you have those ports open on your shared computers then concentrate on the Devolo adapters. Perhaps they are in need of a firmware update or modification of some configuration setting.

  • Lightning Connector Only Works One Way

I have two lightning connector cables, and the new 30 pin to lightning adapter, all direct from Apple.
I've found that if I plug them in one way, my iPhone won't charge, but, if I plug it in the other way, they work.
It'sprobably a software issue, as the pins aren't being reassigned. I found that if I have the plug in, and it's not working, I can restart my iPhone 5, and the cable will begin working for this orientation, but not the other way.
I've seen others mentioning this issue, but haven't found a solution yet. I've tried a hard and soft reset so far, and all that does is set the pins to work for one direction on the cable, not both.

I recently tried resetting all my settings. This did not work either.
The cable may appear to be charging, but no juice is flowing. If I reverse the cable, however, it starts charging.
I can't be the only one with this issue, as it appears to be firmware related. There's a chance it's hardware related, but my iPhone was working fine for weeks, with all cables. Now, all my "reversible" lightning cables only work one way.

  • Library sharing only works on wifi

    Hi,
Please help. I am running an iMac with OS 10.6.8 and a Samsung netbook NC10 running Windows XP. Both machines are in the same LAN, with a router of Sitecom to connect them and create internet availabilty.
When I run the Airport Express on the iMac the netbook itunes can see the itunes library of the iMac. When I just have the ethernet running, the library is not visible. What is blocking the sharing opportunity of the library of the iMac?
I would like to have only one library I actively use and update and play music on the netbook in the living room, connected to the amplifier.
    Thanks!

Have you enabled your phone to use Cellular Data for iTunes Match?  If not it will only work on WiFi.
The other possibility that I read is that there is a weird glitch in Apple's Terms and Service which changed recently.  Apparently until you accept the new T&C the iTunes Match will skip on cellular.  Annoyingly it seams the only way to get the new T&Cs to show for you to accept them is to go buy a new song.

  • IPhoto sharing not working

As of today I am unable to share any of my photos to any of my accounts that are enabled in iPhoto, Facebook, and more importantly, flickr which I use for my work.  They are greyed out.
I tried closing iPhoto, and reopening, but that didn't fix the issue, so I them deleted the accounts in iPhoto, and tried adding them again and act

OK, so something is not quite right, I have had to reboot my iMac every day now to get iPhoto sharing back, otherwise it just greys out.
Anyone know what the issue is?

  • SMB File Sharing only works for Admin Accounts???

I'm using a mac mini as a small file server. It will share files to WindowsPCs using SMB but there is a problem.
On the Option dialog where you select accounts to share files and folders using SMB only Admin accounts show up. This is far from ideal as I'd prefer to using Sharing Only or Standard accounts.
Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

What permissions are you setting on the share?  My guess is you are only using user, group, and other (POSIX).  You need to add an ACL to the list and then set read/write or full control.

  • Google Account BlackBerry Sync only works one way

Hey I just got my BB yesterday... I set up my Google Account on my BB and it downloaded all the data to my device. Then I set up an new Test-Contact and a Test-Appointment (calender) on my BB and it was synced to my google account... everything was fine... After that I set up another Test-Contact and Test-Appointment in my google account to check whether it would be synced to my BB... But that did not work at all... NOTHING WAS SYNCED... I waited for houres but it just would not sync the data to my BB... Same situation if I read or delete an Email in my google account the Email still appears as unread on my BB... But when I read one on my BB it appears as read on my google account... seems like sync is just working one way!
    Any ideas?

I'm still new with BB, using it as a loaner phone when my Android got waterlogged.  I have the same problem, sort of - in my case, I noticed with Emails that it takes a good amount of time for one read on the BB to show as read in my Gmail.  And it's the same the other way except maybe a tad faster.
But I'm not able to sync my google calendar any longer.  I read that google was dropping support for BB sync options sometime around 6/1/12, and somewhere in these support forums there's a thread on the topic, stating you can use your BIS account to get them to sync, and in looking for that thread I ran across your post.  If I find it, I'll come back and link to that thread.

  • File Sharing on a Network and it only works one way

I recently configured a new wireless network, and want to fileshare between my Mac and old PC. I have followed several tutorials, and I can read/write to the Mac from the PC. However, when I try to connect to the PC from the Mac, it asks for username and password. I type in the only user name and password setup on the PC, and it says I do not have access to that server. Any ideas?

There is a "Server" service, and it is running on the laptop. The file I needed to move was ~150GB - wifi would be faster than OneDrive. You can appreciate my desire for full gigabit speed :)
I can connect to the laptop from the desktop over wifi. So the functionality of sharing is all there for me. But I am completely unable to set the wired network's location to "Private", which essentially enables Windows Firewall rules under the hood that
    block any file sharing connections.
I can manually edit the firewall rules, but these apply only to network location profiles, i.e. "Domain", "Public", "Private", or "All".
I'll post a few screenshots to try and make this more clear.
Here is my wifi connection. Highlighted in red you can see the option to enable file sharing. Prett slick.
Here is a screenshot of my wired connection. As you can see, the option to enable sharing is completely missing.
The only explanation I can come up with for this is that it is an "Unidentified network", however on the other end of the cable is a desktop with the same connection settings running the same OS with the same updates and on that machine the network is set
to "Private" and has file sharing enabled. The option to enable or disable file sharing does not appear on the desktop either. The only difference between the two is that the network was enabled on the desktop prior to updating to Windows 8.1 (from Windows
8), the laptop had Windows 8.1 clean installed.

  • Screen Sharing not working both ways!

I have had screen sharing and back to my mac set up for ages between my mac mini and macbook. It worked fine until now. I can still connect to my laptop from my mac mini, but it doesn't work the other way, and the majority of the time i am using my laptop to connect to my mac mini.
    please help me!

Same thing happening with me. I want to go from my Macbook to Macbook Pro and vis versa. But it will only go from MB to MBP not the other way. I set up both settings to the exact same thing. But nothing is working so far.

  • Screen sharing only in one way

Hi, I'm doing screen sharing everyday -mostly for helping other with their macs- with no problem but with one person (an uncle of mine).
He uses a new 20" iMac (the late one), we can text chat, videoconferencing, audioconferencing and screen sharing in one way, I can let him control my mac but it's impossible to let me control his Mac.
The fourth button in ichat (where to ask for permission or give permission to screen sharing) is half enable, only one of the options is enabled to click on, the option for "ask for screen sharing" isn't. So I can give him permission to control my mac but not to control his mac.
How can this be possible? I asume screen sharing works in the same protocols in both ways, above all when we can do video and audio conferencing.
Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi Ralph,
When you have ticked the screen sharing option in iChat>video>screen sharing and your buddy "high lights" (one click) your screen name the screen sharing icon will be displayed in black on his end indicating "enabled".
This way he can ask for your permission to share your screen.
When your contact has not ticked the screen sharing option the screen sharing icon in your contact list will be grey.
When your contact has ticked the screen sharing option as well the screen sharing icon in your contact list will be black as well.
Of course all other requirements for iChat screen sharing have to be met.
More important: I wish you a very happy new year!

  • File sharing only works in one direction

I have a 2011 iMac and a 2012 rMBP. File sharing is turned on on both machines, but when I try to connect to the MBP from the iMac, it refuses the connection. I've noticed that it works if I check that box for my account for Windows file sharing (the one that stores your password using a weaker hash I think) on the MBP, but I shouldn't need to do that, hence why I'm here.
It of course works absolutely fine going from MBP to iMac.
Anybody experience something similar, or have any suggestions short of reinstalling the OS?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • IP phones only working one way

Sorry, I'm a complete VoIP novice...
We have a bit of a weird problem in that when you dial an extension which is our other office (connected by 2 x 2mpbs MPLSs) the caller can hear the recieving person's voice but the the recieving can't hear the caller. This happens both ways, i.e. when we call them and when they call us. We do have an access-list in place and I have opened up the ports that were logged as being denied when the calls were placed (namely 51000 range) and now nothing is being logged as denied.
Apparently this has worked when initially tested, so I'm not sure what could have changed.
Any ideas? Has anyone come across this before? We are using Avaya phones.
    Many thanks,
    J2026

Thanks for your response Martin, much appreciated.
    1) I have removed all filters and re-tried: same result.
    2) Definitely connectivity is OK, OSPF routes in place, lots of traffic passes between the 2 regularly. Verifyied by ping as suggested.
3)This could be an issue...I've looked at the interfaces in question, and some of them have a large amount of drops - input queues leaving from here and output queues from the other offices, e.g.
    Output queue: 0/1000/64/1067272 (size/max total/threshold/drops)
However, I have cleared the counters and tried again, with same results, yet no more packets had been dropped.
    4) We currently only have 4 IP phones (1 at this site, 3 at other) as we are still setting it up. The problem is with all 4 phones, when going between offices. They work fine within the same office (to IP and standard analogue phones). Also, I can use the IP phone here to dial out to my mobile with no problems (this does not traverse the 2mpbs MPLS).
We will be implementing some QoS queueing tools but I was under the impression that we should be able to get at least some, albeit choppy, audio working. Do you think it's likely/reasonable that this problem won't go away until proper queuing is implemented?
    Many thanks for your help.
    Regards, J
