IPhoto to PSE 11

Starting up, how do I import images (in folders and albums) from iPhoto to PSE 11 without creating a chaos?
Should I un-install iPhoto afterwards?
FH-elementary

Just to make sure: you do know you can use iphoto with the PSE editor? That it's up to you whether or not to use organizer? If you do decide to go with organizer, you can either use the From iPhoto command, or follow 99jon's suggestion to export the photos from iphoto, organize them in folders and put them where you plan to keep them, and then use From Files and Folders to import them. You might as well keep iphoto even if you delete the contents of your library--there are occasions where you may still want it for a project sometime.
(nb, I don't believe that you can get images from an iphoto backup as the wording of 99jon's post seems to suggest, at least not without restoring them to iphoto and then going through the steps above, any more than you could easily add images to iphoto from a PSE backup.)

  • Iphoto 11 + pse 9 editing

I have iphoto 11   pse 9 ,when I edit using pse as external editor and save simply clicking save ( not save as) when I try to reopen the photo a big black exclamtion mark appears. What's happening?

See if this info is helpful:
Using Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
s  I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Photoshop elements 8 for Mac - how to move photos (events) from iphoto to pse

I have figured out how to move one  photo over through opening a file.  But I can't move a full event or album from iphoto.  Ive tried going to bridge but when i click on the iphoto folder, it takes me into my iphoto and I'm not sure what do then, no buttons or anything that seems to connect to PSE.  Any help would be appreciated!  I wish Adobe supported this product better for Mac users.  Maybe they read these discussions?

    Hi,
Are you opening iPhoto files from within Photoshop Elements? You can open all the files in an iPhoto event into PSE8 through a single click.
In Photoshop Elements, go to File menu > Open. In the browser window that appears, click Photos under Media in the sidebar. Now, you should be able to see iPhoto with all its events. When you click on an event and "Open" it, you should get all the photos of that event in the project bin.
Is this the problem being asked?
    Thanks.

  • How can I open a photo on iPhoto and PSE 10?

Before upgrading to PSE 10 for Mac, I would select a photo in iPhoto, click on edit and PSE 8 would open with the selected photo.  Now PSE 10 will open but, there is no photo open in PSE 10.

Make sure your iPhoto settings are linked to the application in support files:
They may be hidden system files - see link:

  • MAC: Using iPhoto with PSE 4.0 instead of Bridge.

I'm thinking about buying PSE 4.0 for editing my digital photos on my PowerBook. Can I continue to use iPhoto 6 as my main photo organizer and then PSE 4 for just editing, and forgo using Bridge? Can I just not install Bridge, since I read it's a separate app from PSE 4.0?
Does anyone else here use iPhoto 6 and PSE 4.0 together? Thanks.

You can't not install bridge, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to.
You can either set iphoto's preferences to open an image in PE with a doubleclick, or export your photos to the desktop to work on them and then reimport the edited photos.

  • Editing photos (from iphoto) in PSE 11

I've recently upgraded to PSE 11 from PSE 10. Previously, when I click edit in iphoto, the photo that I want to edit automatically opens up in PSE 10 and I can do my edit rightaway.
However, the photo does not open up automatically in PSE 11 now. My computer will launch PSE 11 but I have to manually load the photo for editing.
I've done the necessary settings in iphoto (i.e edit using external editor) but it's still not working like it used to.
Is this a change in feature in PSE 11 or I'm missing something here?
Appreciate all advice and tips on this.
    Thank you.

In iphoto, for any edited photo (no matter where you edited), to see the original, select the edited photo and go to Photo>Revert to Original. iPhoto remembers your original, but versions in iphoto don't work the same way the do in PSE, at least not when you use an external editor. iPhoto assumes that if you want to use another program for editing, you want to use that other program for editing. If you want to use iphoto instead, you would need to revert it. If you want to have both available, the original and PSE edit, some versions of iphoto automatically send a duplicate for editing, but I don't think the latest version does, so make a duplicate in iphoto and send that to PSE.
An external editor is by definition external --the photo left iphoto to get edited. The external editor mechanism merely lets you  get your edited photos back into iphoto again automatically.

  • Editing headshots:  iPhoto '08, PSE 6, or Aperture 2?

    Hi, all:
I'm not a big photo guy, but I do have an important project I'd like to tackle... I need to edit a couple of headshot-style photos taken of my daughter. The pics were taken on B&W film; I have the negatives, I had a contact sheet printed, and all the images burned onto a CD as .jpg files.
I need to clear up skin tone, remove stray/flyaway hairs, that kind of stuff.
I don't think iPhoto '08 is robust enough to do this, so I'm thinking I'm going to have to buy either PSE 6 or Aperture 2. I've never used either, and would appreciate some guidance.
    Many thanks,
    Bill in CT
PS: I'm going to cross-post this on the iPhoto forum, too.

    Hmmm.
For any serious retouch I would go with one of the photoshops CS3 or Elements. Better yet if you are not a big photo guy you may just want to have someone who knows what they are doing do it for you on your favorite shots so they don't end up looking like cartoons or worse.

  • Iphoto 11 + PSE 9 externer editor

    Hi,
Because the organizer of PSE 9 is very slow, I use iphoto 11 on Mac OSx to organize my fotos. If I edit a foto with iphoto, I get one modifieded picture in iphoto. If I work with PSE 9 as an external editor, iphoto does a duplication of my foto and I get 2 fotos (original + modifieded) in iphoto. Is it possible to get one modifieded foto with PSE 9 in the organizer of iphoto with the option to get back to the original?

No, this is a quirk of the current iphoto with any external editor. Most people think it's a bug, but apple evidently disagrees.

  • RAW iPhoto to PSE 4

I have read the instructions, and must be doing something wrong--the process isn't working as described. My understanding is that to open and edit a RAW image in Photoshop, one must drag a previously unedited RAW image from iPhoto to the desktop. Then, open the image in PSE. This doesn't work for me. I get a dialog box, "Photoshop Raw Options," that wants dimensions of the image. From the "Get Info" screen on the RAW image, I get the dimensions, and enter them into the box. No go. The box doesn't like anything I put into it.
Anyone know the trick? What am I doing wrong?
    20" iMac Core Duo.
    Mac OS X (10.4.9), 2GB RAM.
    Camera: Nikon D80

The solution was simple. Although I just bought PSE, the Camera Raw plug-in was old, version 3.3. I'm not sure what led me to check the version, or to see what update was available from Adobe. Regardless, I found version 3.7, downloaded and installed it, and now the process works as it should. Moral: ALWAYS check for updates, even if the software is "new."

  • IPhoto with PSE 12 help ...

I am opening pics from iPhoto ... selecting edit with external editor (have set as PSE 12).  After editing the pics, it will not allow me to resave the new photo back into iPhoto??  HELP!!

You must make sure that you don't see the save as window. Go to the editor preferences>saving files>on first save and set PSE to save over the existing file. That's the only way to make an iphoto version.

  • IPhoto to PSE

How do I open a photo in photoshop elements 12 from iPhoto?  It worked fine in the old pse...

I just figured it out.  When you open iPhoto preferences, advanced, you select your external editor which opens the PSE12 editor, but you have to open "support files, PSE 12 editor ..... open.  Then the iPhoto photo will open in PSE12 editor when you hit the edit button.  Oh yes.

  • Move photo from iPhoto to PSE "open in camera RAW"

    is there a simple way?

You need to tell iphoto to send raw files out of iphoto or it will make its own conversion and send a pre-converted file. Go to the iphoto preferences>advanced and turn on this checkbox:

  • Iphoto and pse elements 9 events original and modified

Hi I am new to iphoto and adobe elements 9 so please accept my apologises if this is answered eleswhere.
I have set up iphoto with the library to store my photos and set up in prefs. to use elements as editior.  I can click on edit when on a photo in either events or photos and edit with elements then save and the photo is sent back to iphoto. All this is ok.  When I view my photos in either photo or event i see two photos the original and the edited one.  I have follwed the path of each photo back the photo on the left for example can be revealed in finder as the original, the photo on the right can be revealed in finder as the orginal and the modified.  Both orignals are revealed as the same photo so only in one place.  Can I get events to only show the modified photo not both oginal and modified.  The only way I can see is to hide the original.  I have followed carefully all the editing instructions in the discussions and i believe to be doing this correct.  As soon as I click on edit I see a duplicate photo apear then elements opens and I do my editing and then save (not save as) and the photo goes back to iphoto as modified image.  To sum up I have only one original and one modified stored in iphoto but both are in events when viewing events.
    Thanks for any help given.

    Suggest that you delete preferences:
Preference settings control how Photoshop Elements displays images, cursors, and transparencies, saves files, uses plug‑ins and scratch disks, and so on. If the application exhibits unexpected behavior, the preferences file may be damaged. You can restore all preferences to their defaults.
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements. For information on a specific preference option, search for the preference name in Help.

  • Opening files in PSE from iPhoto - Saving issue

I opened my files to edit in PSE10 directly from the flagged folder in iPhoto. I noticed it was saving them to a weird numbered file but kept going. I can't find the folder ANYWHERE! How can I recover my edited pictures?

I'm not sure what you're doing but you have two choices when using iphoto with PSE:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto and save, not save as, without changing the name or format. You will have to go to the PSE preferences>saving files>on first save and set it to save over existing file to do this. Then you should see the edited photo in iphoto. iPhoto will remember your last edited version and you can revert to the original at any time, but you will have to lose the edited version to do so.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in the PSE editor and then make as many changes to the name or format as you like. You will need to import the edited file to iphoto as a new image, but this lets you save as many versions as you like.
The one thing you should never do is to try to save anything into iphoto from outside iphoto. That's the fastest track there is to corrupting the iphoto library and losing all your pics.

  • Iphoto won't open in pse 11

I have to drag my picture from iphoto to pse 11 even though I have it set to edit in pse 11 when I double click. it does bring up pse 11 but then I have to choose between editor and organizer...then I have to drag picture from iphoto into pse 11...any body can help me?
    thanks for the help

When you install PSE 11 you should get a folder titled Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 with an alias file for the PSE application inside the Adobe Elememts 11 Organizer application.
Here's what it looks like for PSE 10:
If you don't have that alias open the Adobe Elememts 11 Organizer application package by Control (right)-clicking on it and selected "Show Package Contents" from the Contextual menu.
Inside the application in the Contents/MacOS folder will the the PSE 11 application.
Make an alias of it and move to the Applications folder.  Then choose that alias file in iPhoto.
