IPhoto Window remains hidden

Hi, my iphoto window has just decided to remain hidden.  I know it is open as it appears when I press the 'F3' button to reveal all of my windows.  Unfortunately, I cannot access it though.  Any ideas people??

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Hidden iPhoto window?

    I left my sister using iPhoto and she called me back telling me the iPhoto window had disappeared. I tried clicking 'show all' in the iPhoto menu but the window is still 'hidden.' However, if I use Expose to show all open windows, I can see the iPhoto window - however, when I click on it, it darts away under the dock and becomes hidden again.
    I had been trying to restore my library and now I am unable to even quit iPhoto because I need to click restore/cancel on the window.
    Please help.

    renew the iPhoto preference file -
    A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
    This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Why is the first tab in a window now hidden!!!???

    Using Firefox 7.0.1 w/ Mac OS 10.6.8 for a while now but suddenly I noticed that the first tab in a window gets hidden. Then on the tab bar I have only the + add-a-tab tab and then the 2nd added tab, and onward. I can only decipher what is the first tab by clicking the down arrow at the very far right-hand side of the tab bar and there it is. But if I click on it, all i get is the window but still NO tab.
    This becomes crucial when I'm trying to organize transfer tabs to a different window to clear space in the first window. Now that is simply impossible because there's no tab to grab and drag into another window Not!
    Hopefully there's a simple fix, but I have not been able to find an answer yet by googleing. Thanks.

    I think that it is a bug.<br />
    I've seen it myself too.<br />
    I see it all the time if I tear off a tab to open in a new window.<br />
    There is only the plus sign to open a new tab nad opening a new tab opens that tab to the right of that New Tab plus sign.<br />
    Closing the tab (Cmd+W) and restoring the tab (Shift+Cmd+T) fixes that problem for me.

  • IPhoto Window moves from external monitor to MacBook Pro

    When working with iPhoto 9.5.1 on my external Apple Cinema display, the iPhoto window periodically jumps from the external display to my MacBook Pro display. This usually occurs when I work in a second application for a short while and when returning to iPhoto, as soon as I select something in the iPhoto window, it jumps to the other display. The OS is 10.9.5.

    Sounds like the standard VGA connector used in computers for ages. Connector looks anything like this?
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA4Mw
    If yes, will need that adapter and a male to male standard VGA cable.

  • What should I do about an icon, "Rebuilt Library" that appeared when I "grabbed" the top of my iPhoto window?

    The icon appeared when I "grabbed" the top of my iPhoto window to move it across the desktop. I don't want to delete important files, and wonder what I should do about the icon.
    I am using Time Machine.

    Thanks LarryHN,
    I have iPhoto version 9.4.3, and the "Rebuilt Library" icon is on the desktop.
    Interestingly, when I closed iPhoto in order to perform the option startup, I got the spinning beachball and had to force quit—when I reopened, using the option key, a window did ask which library to use—I chose the rebuilt library.
    I moved the "Rebuilt Library" icon to the iPhoto Library folder.
    Thanks again!

  • Why do I have 2 iPhoto windows open?

    Why do I have 2 iPhoto windows open? When I click on the dock iPhoto app it gives me 2 iPhoto window options. Do I officially have double iPhotos or have I some how duplicated it? How can I get back to one as Im already struggling with lack of memory space!

    That screenshot is only showing you one iPhoto window - the one with the checkmark. The upper part are the recently opened libraries. You can check this by selecting "Show all windows":
    iPhoto can have more than one window open, if you launched a dialogue, for example, if you are switching between libraries, you might see this:
    Then the main application window is open, plus the dialog window:

  • Why does my download window remain blank whenever i download a page?

    i cannot find my downloads, since the download window remains blank whenever i click "download" on any web page.

    Have you tried the suggestions in this article? [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
    Also, although it's not a complete replacement, I usually print those kinds of pages to PDF.

  • Iphoto stuck in hidden mode

    I can see the iPhoto on my dock. It looks open when I go to Hot Corners but will not open when I click on the iPhoto (either on dock or HC)

    "Why are you using a hot corner to access the iPhoto Window?"
    Should have been clearer - I'm using the hot corner to access my open windows. iPhoto opens, and when I have it open, the iPhoto window does not appear on the desktop, but it does appear when I go down into the hot corner. However, when I click on the iPhoto window from the hot corner, it just pops back out of sight.

  • Source window in iphoto window

    the source window on the left side of my Iphoto window on G4 Power Mac has disappeared --- how do I get it back?
    Mac G4 and IMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi fredz,
    Sometimes people can't get that source window open, even when they try to move the dot to the right.
    First try to drag the button to show the column as show here
    If that doesn't work, then you need to delete the Preference file. That info (size of the source window) is kept in the iPhoto Preference file.
    Quit iPhoto
    Open your User folder, then open the Library in your user folder, then open the Preferences in the Library folder.
    In the Preference folder is a file called com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    For now, drag that file to the desktop. Launch iPhoto and see if the source window is there or if you can open the source window. If you can, that means that Preference file you dragged to the desktop was corrupt. Put it in the trash.
    IPhoto made a new one when it was launched. Open iPhoto Preferences and set your preferences again and you are good to go.

  • IPhoto Window No Longer Maximizes

    iPhoto 11 no longer has the ability to maximize it's window to fill all available space except for the dock.
    Every time I load iPhoto 11 I have to drag the iPhoto window to the left and up along with widening the window from the lower right corner in order to fill the available screen space except for the dock.
    Have other iPhoto 11 users noticed this problem?

    I installed iPhoto 11 and Office 2011 as well, and clicking the green button fills all the available space.
    Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. • Web Gallery dissapears on my Iphoto but remains on line

    It is maybe a settings issue but some web galleries dissapear from my i-photo although they are still showing on line. and I can not add/remove photos from those libraries.

    I can not add/remove photos from those libraries
    First what version of iPhoto are you using? The latest is 7.1.2 and it had fixed many Gallery issues - if you have not updated you should do that first
    a couple of things to look at
    when you say the Galleries disappear I assume that you mean that they no longer appears in your source list (the left hand sidebar in the iPhoto window)
    If they are not there look in preferences under gallery and see it they are there
    If not then you can delete them via the finder - finder --web ==> sites ==> _gallery and drag the gallery(s) you want to delete to the trash and empty trash
    If the galleries are complicated (not just a single album or event) you may want to print a list of the photo in the web gallery to make reproducing it easier. I generally make an album for my gallery then create the gallery from that album both as back up and to keep me from doing lots of editing while it is published - That can be slow and (used to I think now) sometimes create duplicates and other problems

  • Awesome: Windows remain present all the time after libpng update

    Hi there,
    After the libpng update this week, my awesome behvaes strange.
    As awesome depends on cairo-xcb, I‘ve downloaded the tarball from this page, extracted it and ran makepkg -s followed by sudo pacman -U. Seemed to work, so I repeated these steps both for awesome and vicious-git and finally ran sudo pacman -Syu. During the last few days, I repeated some of theses steps (eg. I rebuilt cairo-xcb again)
    So I was able to launch Awesome again, but some strange issues occured: After closing (or even killing) windows or switching tags, windows remain present. The awesome context menu behaves as these windows: It does not vanish. In fact, if I open more than one window, awesome becomes practically unuseable.
    I moved my awesome config file (~/.config/awesome/rc.lua) and therefore awesome loaded the default config file, but the error occured again.
    So, after googling and asking in the IRC (nice to know that most awesome guys do not have problems with this update…), I finally use the forum
    Thanks for helping me out here, Keba.
    PS: Obviously, the “awesome“ in the title refers to the window manager not to the awesomeness of this error.
    //Edit: If I move windows, they leave some lines behind them, so awesome seems to have problems redrawing the screen correctly…

    Yes, and disabling that helps, thanks a lot
    For some reason I use the non-git-version, so I built the git version and installed it. Even after rebuilding cairo-xcb again, I get the same problem again So, how to use xcompmgr?
    Thanks, Keba.

  • Help - all Mail windows disappeared/hidden

    I have a problem: when I launch Apple Mail (Leopard, 10.5.6) all windows are hidden. If I select a new viewer from the File menu, I can see the viewer exists in the Windows menu, but I cannot see it on screen. Quitting/restarting makes no difference.
    System setup is a MacBook Pro with external 24 inch monitor attached. Disconnecting/reconnecting the external monitor makes no difference. This problem occurred after a system restart (I had to do a hard restart on the machine due to an unresponsive application that would not force quit)
    I wrote an applescript to see what is going on.
    tell application "Mail"
    tell front window
    set {x1, y1, x2, y2} to (get bounds)
    log {x1, y1, x2, y2}
    end tell
    end tell
    Result: (*-1411, 0, -71, 878*)
    So I set the bounds of the window to 0,22,500,500 and ran again. Now result shows (*0, 22, 500, 500*) but the window is still invisible! Tried bringing window to front, checking that it isn't hidden. I'm completely stumped. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be going on here?
    Note this applies to all windows in Apple Mail (new Message, new viewer, About Mail, Preferences etc). The only windows I've been able to display are the palettes like Show Colors or Show Text.
    Thanks in advance...
    ~ Rodney

    A little more info.
    I ran the following applescript to get all properties of Window 1 ( default message viewer window).
    tell application "Mail"
    get properties of window 1
    end tell
    The results are:
    {zoomed:false, closeable:true, resizable:true, miniaturized:false, document:missing value, bounds:{147, 272, 555, 633}, titled:true, floating:false, miniaturizable:true, zoomable:true, modal:false, class:window, name:"Previous Recipients", id:335, index:1, visible:true}
    end tell

  • Sql Plus Help! (the window remain open)

    I'm currently using sql plus to export data from oracle to text with spool command, in this way:
    sqlplus user/[email protected] @F:\pathtosql\query.sql (this line is in a bat file)
    where the file query.sql contain the spool comand
    spool F:\textfile.txt;
    set head on;
    set pagesize 0;
    set linesize 512;
    set trimspool on;
    set feedback off;
    set termout off;
    select field1, field2, ..., fieldn
    from table;
    spool off;
    exit;
    mi problem is when I run .bat (contining the sqlplus command) and for some reason the source database is not available the windows remain open requesting for a logon information, I want the windows close if are connection problem
    Can I do that with sqlplus
    Thanx

    Specify the -L command line option to SQL*Plus, i.e.:
    sqlplus -L username/password@db @blah.sql
    (this will prevent the second prompt for username/password if the initial login is unsuccessful for any reason, like an invalid password).
