IPlayer and the iPod Touch

Hello,
Sorry if this has been answered before, however I have just bought my iPod touch and have been playing around with it this weekend.
I went to the BBC iPlayer and tried to watch a TV show (which I thought I would be able to do), however it wants to download the Adobe Flash Plugin which fails to download.
Is there a way around this or can this not be done.
Paul.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Odd. Whilst iPlayer is predominantly Flash-based as Flash isn't available for +iPhone/iPod touch+ the BBC re-encode programmes into H.264 MPEG4 for our use. It * should * just automatically take you to that part of the site. Try navigating directly to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/index.html
I forgot to record Spooks on the iMac when I was away earlier in the week and have just watched the first two episodes by connecting the +iPod touch+ to my home cinema projector and using iPlayer. I find that it's better to switch the screen lock off (Settings > General > Auto-Lock > Never) when using iPlayer.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.

My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.  It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart.  That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other.  They just won’t talk anymore.
    Mac mini
    1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
    OS 10.4.11
    iTunes 9.2.1
    iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LL

I found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
    turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal.  :-)

  • I was wondering why the iPhone 5 has the option for a battery percentage and the iPod touch 5g doesn't? I mean... they are almost both the same thing... just the iPod does not have the phone.

I was wondering why the iPhone 5 has the option for a battery percentage and the iPod touch 5g doesn't? I mean... they are almost both the same thing... just the iPod does not have the phone.

One likely reason is the % battery is not that accurate because of the smaller battery capacity in the iPod compared to iPhone and iPad. Users why use a % battery app post that the % reading changes a lot.

  • What are the functional differences between the iPhone and the iPod Touch, barring of course the differences in service requirements.

What are the functional differences between the iPhone and the iPod Touch, barring of course the differences in service requirements.

For one, their form factors are slightly different as the iPhone has a bit more squarish body whereas the iPod Touch has a tapered back to it.
The iPhone also has much better front and rear cameras. Exact details as to the difference in megapixels depends on whether or not you talking about the iPhone 4 or 4S.  If you would like to get more details, you can always view
each models specs on Apple's online store.
See here for a better explanation.

I'm sure others will chime in with other things as well.

  • What is the difference between the iPod Touch and the iPod Touch MP3 ?

What is the difference between the iPod Touch and the iPod Touch MP3 ?

There is no iPod touch designated as the "iPod Touch MP3". If you've seen that listed somewhere, it's just a rather misleading title given by the dealer or web site, not an Apple product name.

  • I was watching bbc iplayer and my ipod touch crashed.  it has a white blank screen so I tried to link it up to Itues but even Itunes doesn't recognise my Ipod.  Help!!!!!!

I was watching BBC Iplayer and my ipod crashed.  I now have a white screen and it won't even sync to Itunes.  I have tried to reset it by pressing the home button for 10 seconds and it is still the same.

    Try the white-screen topic of:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
Next try letting the battery fully drain and then charge for an hour and try again. Frequently a white screen is due to a hardware problem

  • Major differences between the iPhone and the iPod touch after SDK?

I was so excited to read that there will be apps available for the iPod touch soon - the only reason I haven't upgraded from my 30GB iPod is that I use the games all the time when I'm on the treadmill. Not having games available regardless of WiFi connection just wasn't going to work for me.
That being said, once the SDK comes out, will there be any major differences (besides the phone, obviously, and WiFi connection to internet vs. connection anywhere) between the two devices? I have one year left on my current phone contract, so I'm thinking I don't want to wait that long since apps will be available on the Touch soon.
    Any insight is appreciated!

    We have NO idea.
But, let's play for a minute...
    Touch will still not have:
    Phone
    BlueTooth
    GPS capabilities
None of which I care about, except maybe the BT, which is not there, so it doesn't matter.
Maybe a future version will have BT, but now, no.
So...if they do really open the Touch, it will be the same sans the above - which is great by me.

  • HT1414 ipod touch 4th gen does not appear in iTunes, and the ipod touch always appear apple logo only. What happens?

Im Using an ipod touch 4th gen and i have updated the iOS to 6 and nothing happens except the screen is always in apple logo only. and when i connect it to laptop, the ipod does not recognizein windows and also in iTunes

The Nano uses different drivers than iOS devices like the iPod touch
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • Apps/Games and the iPod Touch/iPhone

Hello everyone! I will get it out of the way first, I am completely new to the iPod Touch! With that out of the way, I have a question that I'm hoping you guys can answer for me! Please bare with me!
My question is something that I haven't been able to find an answer to anywhere, and I'm really embarrassed to ask as I'm sure it's completely obvious. Do games and apps from the Apps Store (Like Rolando, Tap Tap, etc.) that run on the iPhone also work on the iPod Touch? I understand that certain apps may not run on different versions of the hardware, or work with different versions of firmware, etc., but that's one thing I've been extremely curious about, and what's caused me to put off buying an iPod Touch so far.
I'm sure someone knows and give me a quick and easy answer! Also, if it makes any difference, I'd be interested in getting the newest 8GB version that's in stores, and I live in Canada if that would make any difference at all! Thanks in advance everyone!

The description of the individual app will state whether it works on the Touch and what version of software/firmware is required.
Well that's always good to know! I've never had iTunes on my computer before, so I'd never really got a chance to look at any apps before to see what it's like, but thanks for the heads up!
    D'Fish'N'Seas wrote:
One of the topics of many discussions on this forum is the fact that the iPod Touch does not at this time come pre-installed with the 3.0 software/firmware. It is at this point an optional upgrade, not necessary in getting you started with your Touch experience.
Good to know as well! I don't like the idea of having to pay for an update, but I guess it would most likely be worth it in the end, so I'd make sure to look into that!
    D'Fish'N'Seas wrote:
Also, please be aware that you cannot purchase apps in Canada with an iTunes card, but will need a credit card on your iTunes account. Canadian law. You can search this forum for more information.
Really? That's quite inconvenient then huh? So what would the iTunes cards I have seen in my local Walmart be for then? Just music I guess? And I might be putting off the purchase of a Touch for a bit then, and will have to look into getting a credit card. Would something like a debit card or PayPal be an option?
    D'Fish'N'Seas wrote:
My suggestion would be, when you make your purchase, get the Touch completely up and running with iTunes and your computer before adding anything to it.
Don't worry, I would make sure to have it in tip top shape before messing about with it and adding a bunch of things! Thanks for the all the info though!

  • I now have I cloud on my PC and the iPod touch and it won't download the addresses into the iPod touch, please tell me why? many thanks for ur help in advance, Charlotte m

I just downloaded I cloud onto my computer and its on the iPod touch already, the contacts won't sync, would someone tell me why, it should happen? many thanks, Charlotte m

First import the card contacts into Gmail. Google for:
    import xx contacts into gmail
where xx is the form of contacts you have
See the following for syncing gmail contacts to your iPod:

  • HT4113 what do you do if you forgot your passcode and the IPOD touch locks you out.

Someone changed my daughters passcode and now she can't get on her ipod touch.

See this discussion  ipod passcode disabled?   from the More Like This  Section on the right.

  • TS3988 Do you create your account on both the pc and the ipod touch

I have not installed icloud on my PC pnly on my touch.
I got a message to verify my account. Then the account
Gets verified but still can use because everything
    Is in grey shade

Without a computer all you can do is redownload iTunes purchases to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Children and the iPod Touch

    Hi
Is it possible to lock some of the functions like video ect.
The schools do not allow any type of recording device, so they are not alloved to have the touch with them unless the video recorder is
    removed or turned off.
    br
    Ibitoft

Go into settings and general and restrictions and see what all you can turn off.
On my iPad I can turn off
    facetime
    youtube
    camera
    facetime
    itunes
    ping
    installing apps
    deleting apps
allowing changes to location settings or email accounts
set ratings for movies & podcaset, movies, tv shows, apps
allow or disallow in app purchases
choose how often the password has to be entered into iTunes
and control whether or not it can be in multiplayer games or add friends in game center
the iPod restrictions should be similar.
That's really the only place to lock stuff out or limit things on the device.

  • I just got a new Iphone 4. My husband already has an iphone 4 and an Ipod touch, with itunes set up on 2 different computers. How can I access the songs on either of his itunes accounts?

How do I get access to Itunes if my husband has already downloaded itunes on our 2 computers and his iphone 4 is the device for one computer and the ipod touch is the device for the second? I have already set up my own itunes account, but it doesn't recognize my phone on either of the computers. Do I need to down load a second itunes software on the computer just for my new device. That would seem ridiculous considering we are married and share all of the music together. Please help

There is no "adding" a device.  Simply plug the iDevice into the computer.  iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit.

  • Is the iPod touch camera good enough to use Scanner Pro?

I'm thinking of downloading this app but I believe it's designed for the iPhone. Is the camera on the iPod touch good enough to scan documents? I mean, I don't expect a perfect scan but if I scan a regular sized page is it readable?

I do not recommend this. While the camera is perfectly capable to film HD movies, it strangely is crappy when it comes to Pictures.
The iPhone 4 has 5Megapixels , the iphone 4s has 8MP and the iPod touch ( current version is still the 4g model ) has 0,7MP.
For snapshots ok, but not for OCR/Scanner purposes.
