IPod doing the "slow sync" recently. USB issue?

So my iPod recently decided that it will sync VERY SLOWLY and sometimes, it's not even recognized on the iMac. I have restored it twice, once on my wife's iMac (PowerPC) and even took it to an Apple store where they wiped it out and confirmed the iMac is fine.
I have two Firewire drives connected to the iMac, and in the USB Ports: the keyboard, a LaCie 1TB drive (used for backups across the network of 3 iMacs of various ages) and when I connect it... the iPod.
In addition, the LaCie drive will periodically just dissapear from the desktop, making automatic backups a bit of a problem.
Any thoughts on whether this is a USB BUS problem (I have swapped the ports for the different devices) or if there might be a "fix" available in software or actions for me. Of course, my AppleCare warranty ran out about 3 months ago.
Thanks for any ideas and help!

Mee too.Recently i bought a Grand c-max.i have an Iphone 4 with ios 4.3.3, pluged via usb lead to the car.Checks all the tracks in by all details shown in the car's screen.Shows playtime counter but still no sound...the only sound that can be heared is a very annoying thin continuing buzz sound like:czzzz..Also when "ipod" icon tabbed on iphone when connected with usb, device seemes to be recognized properly by "Ford Sync" system.3 days past after i start to search a solution. But no results. But i must  frankly  add that, i still have not read the user manual of the car about aux usb connections.Nevertheless i need urgent help. Please advice.

  • Can I unsync my ipod from the original synced computer?

Can I unsync my ipod from the original synced computer?

The five number is the number of computers that can authorized to use a single iTunes account.  You can syncan unlimited number of iDevices t one iTunes account.  You need to find one of the five computer that you not longer want authorized for the iTunes account and then deauthorize that computer.  If you computer crashes and you have to reinstall the operating system the "old" installation still remains authorized.  To cover that case Apple allows you to deauthorize all computer one a year so then you can authorize the needed computers.  See:
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization

  • Why when I try to sync my iPod does the error message come up that it can't be backed up to my computer???!

I'm having issues syncing my iPod today! I sync once a week, I've got the latest version of iTunes, but today it tells me that it won't back up to my computer, WHY? Since updating iTunes, it keeps coming up with a separate error message about not being authorised for the library thing, after I've synced/used iTunes... Oh & it point blank refused to recognise my iPad to sync. It's driving me potty :(

I dislike technology on occasions... I shut down iTunes, plugged my iPad back in & NOW it decides to sync!!! No error messages...and then it syncs my iPod with no problems as well!!! It seems that I can't start iTunes, play music & then decide to sync the toys. I HAVE to just plug in the iPod/iPad and let it start up all by itself. How irritating! Thank you for responding!

  • Does playing my ipod on the car stereo with USB hurt the battery of the ipod?

Just curious if when playing the ipod on the car stereo using the usb plugged into the stereo unit will cause the battery life to shorten since it is seems to be charging the ipod.  Or does the ipod have a regulator that stops the charging once the battery is full?

Thank you for the info.  I must have gotten a bad ipod, because I only had it for a month and the battery would drain down overnight even with the wifi and bluetooth off.  I play it on my stereo unit hooked up with the USB.  I didn't think that by doing that it would mess up the battery and cause it to drain quickly in just a month.

  • How many devices (iPods) does Wi-Fi sync support simultaneously in iOS5?

I have 3 iPod Touch 3gen/4gen in my house.  They are setup and all work with WiFi sync individually but I can only get two to show up at any one time in iTunes and I'm not sure how it manages to decide which iPod to show and which one to not show.  Is two the maximum number of devices to show in iTunes 5 via Wi-Fi at once?  I want to make sure that they all sync at least once a day or so.  If you have multiple devices are they 'rotated' somehow by iTunes or am I gonna be stuck connected the 'odd iPod out'  (which varies from time to time) via cable to PC?.
I want to pick up two more touches which may make the issue even more confusing.  I'd like to get it settled for three before I buy my other two.
WIndows 7, latest iTunes.  IPod firmware all up to date and all are setup in iTunes and in the iPod's settings to sync via Wi-Fi.  Again, all work individually but only two show up on the left hand column in iTunes.
    THanks!!  Happy Halloween!!

  • Why does the "Finishing Sync" stage never finish?

When syncing both my iPhone 5S and my iPad 3rd generation the sync progresses well and all items appear to transfer properly.  But when the last stage of "finishing sync" arrives the system seems to hang indefinately and never actually finishes.  I have to "eject" each product to force sync to quit.  I don't notice any bad behaviour on either product, but the lack of completion concerns me.  I have gone so far as the RESTORE the iPhone, set it up as a new device, and manually reconfigure all the settings and re-synce all my apps, music and photos and I still get the same result.  I did notice the first time a sync was performed it completed quickly as expected but all subsequent attempts hang up on the finishing sync stage.
Any suggestions on how to rectify this issue are appreciated.

    Hello jb2000,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535?viewlocale=en_US
Connect the device to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. If your device isn't visible in the upper right corner of the screen, choose Library.
Click the Summary tab and unselect "Manually manage music and videos."
    Then try to sync again
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • How does the Classic charge, Firewire, USB method or both?

I am trying to understand how the iPod classic charges.
All of my cars have an iPod interface. Using the large flat connector that sends the audio to the car radio and also charges the iPod at the same time.
I am presently using the iPod Video (AKA 5th generation). It is my understanding that this particular iPod charges with the FireWire pin on the flat connector (+12V).
When I plug in my new iPod nano the audio comes through fine but it will not charge. I understand that Apple is changing its charging method to USB (+5V).
I have found an adaptor that corrects for this however it does not stay pluged in very well when moving the iPod around.
    http://scosche.com/products/productID/1667
I now want to buy an iPod classic, will I have the same charging problem that I experienced with the nano?
I was considering having my iPod connectors replaced in my vehicles (at no small expense). However some have advised me that the iPod classic can be charged using _either the FireWire or UBS methods._ (Meaning that my existing connector would work.)
I tried asking at the local apple store but I received different answers (there's no recession at this Apple store, they were very busy).
I would love to get an answer to this question from someone who _really knows_.
    Thanks.

I can confirm that the latest 120Gb iPod Classic CAN be charged via firewire. My original iPod has finally broken and I have a built-in car dock. Today I purchased an iPod Nano which gave the error message "can not charge using this accessory" (or similar). Luckily Curry's offered me a full refund as I had not even left their car park before I returned the item.
I contacted Apple who confirmed the latest classic would charge via Firewire, and therefore returned to Curry's and tried a shop model in my car. This charges fine. I have since purchased a classic and again this works fine in the car. I have also plugged it in via my old firewire cable from my original iPod and YES it does charge.
I hope this helps - my advice would be to go to a main highstreet store in your vehicle and get them to try a demo model for you and then purchase!
    Good luck!
    Alex

  • Does the wifi sync wake my Mac Mini?

I have my iphone syncing to the iTunes on my laptop. I recently purchased a Man Mini (2011) with Lion and I was thinking that now that iOS 5 does wifi syncing when it's plugged in, it might be better to let my mini be the new machine. However, I have my mini sleep after 15 minutes of non use. Will the wifi sync on my phone wake the computer on demand? I'd like to not have to turn my laptop on every time I want to sync my phone.

I too have a Mac mini (2011). When it was connected by wire to our router, the Mac would rarely go to sleep and when it did it rarely stayed asleep long even though I wasn't doing anything to wake up. However, I can confirm wifi iTunes syncing, remote app, etc WOULD always wake up the Mac.
However, we've recently relocated our router so Mac now wirelessly connected. iTunes wifi sync, remote app etc now NO LONGER wake the Mac up. Very annoying.
Considering iCloud backup now as a result.

  • How does the contact syncing work?

I am a little confused about the syncing process. I currently have exactly the same contacts on my iphone 4 as in my address book on my macbook. If I have the automatic syncing of contacts selected via itunes, which way do they sync?
If I put a new contact on my phone will it be wiped and my contacts revert to whats in the address book?
Or does it work the other way, my address book reverts to what iv got on my iphone?
Or do they merge and not delete anything? If they merge, do they combine an individual's details, ie an email address on my mac and that same person's mobile number under the same name on my iphone merge into one contact profile?
    Thanks

Are you aware if this is bidirectional syncing for iCal Events created on the iPhone 4 using iTunes 10. I have seemed to have lost this functionality, or maybe I am just not aware that it is occurring?

  • How is data sync'ed, or is the information from the different devices merged together or does the "first sync'ed" device overwrite the other devices entries?

Quite basic question, though the result is fundamentally different - and I'd like to know for sure before starting the sync. ;)

The devices that are listed are: 2 under the name of the device that synced incorrectly with mine and then 3 others that are not associated with my itouch. The name of the ipod, before the incorrect sycning is no longer under devices.  It has been replaced with the incorrect one because I can see the serial # of my ipod under the wrong name.
The playlists that are in my itunes library are from an ipod that I used a few times before I took this one over... Which happens to be the ipod that took on the ID of my itouch.
Both of these ipods used to be my kids.. I used my sons a few times and then switched to my daughters.  They each had their names attachted to their particular devices and now it just says my sons, which is the ipod that itunes was connecting to when all this happened. The really strange thing is my son doesnt use his ipod any longer and now uses his phone for music...So, it had been a while since that particular device was even synced to itunes!
    I hope this helps!

  • Does the MX892 connect via USB cable

Even though this is a wireless printer, can I just leave the usb cable attached and by pass setting up a wireless system?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi Zenjoo, thanks for posting!  The PIXMA MX892 can be plugged into the computer via a standard USB printer cable, as well as be connected wirelessly.  Please note that the printer does not come with a USB cable, you will be required to use the cable off your old printer, or supply your own.  We hope this helps!
