IPod FM Transmitter accessory question

hey everyone.
So I recently got my 4th gen ipod replaced with a new 5th gen and as such I need to get a new iTrip style device. With the old one I used to use my iPod at work to transmit to a portable boombox and had my power adapter there to keep it plugged in to power all the time. I was looking at the new iTrip that connects to the dock connector and was wondering if it has a connection on the bottom? Like if I use this new iTrip can I still have my iPod plugged in to a power adapter so that the iPod/iTrip combo works through my whole day of work?
I also looked at the Road Trip. I understand with it you can unplug the FM transmitter portion and use it with your computer, but when detached can it also work with the iPod? And can I connect power to my iPod while using this transmitter outside of the car?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Belkin iPod FM transmitter problem with iPhone

I've been using a Belkin FM transmitter with my iPod for listening to music in my car. It connects to the dock interface, and charges up the iPod as well as transmitting the music.
However, when I connect it to my iPhone and play music, the music only plays through the iPhone internal speakers.
Is the iPhone dock not compatible with iPod dock accessories?
Or is there some way of making it work?

The pin outs are different on the iPhone than the iPod and that accessory will not work with the iPhone (and there isn't any way to make it work, although some folks have reported that fooling around with the connections can sometimes make things work temporarily -- I wouldn't advise this).
You can only use accessories that say they are iPhone compatible.

  • Problem using Kensington Digital iPod FM Transmitter

    Hey all,
Please help me if you can, this is driving me crazy. I have a 80gb iPod video that I wanted to use in the car. The only option available to me was to use an FM tuner and after reading the great reviews the Kensington product received, I went and ordered one.
Now that I've had it for a few days I've been unable to coax anything out of it beyond static and my music very distorted and very quiet.
I have tried every single FM station in the spectrum (and I'm very serious when I say that). No change whatsoever and I don't live in a huge city so I'm certain that finding the "right" frequency is NOT the answer.
My car's aerial is mounted on the back windshield, do you think this is the problem? I would hope that Kensington would build their unit with a strong enough signal so that this wouldn't matter.
I read one review of the product advise to manually reset the iPod if having trouble. I've done this multiple times with no change. I'm very disappointed, if anyone can help me, please do!
    Spenno.

I am also trying to use a Kensington Digital iPod FM Transmitter in the car.
My iPod works fine, so does the car radio. The instructions say to tune to an unused frequency, or one that is not broadcasting, but the radio tuner doesn't allow me to do that - it just goes to stations that are broadcasting.
I tried using a station with a weak signal, and the transmitter works, but is static-y and at times the station breaks through the music.

  • IPod Volvo FM Transmitter - Have question. Please help

    Good evening.
My wife and I are looking to get the Volvo specific FM Transmitter installed in our S40 Volvo.
I have a 5th Gen Video iPod and was wondering if any knew for sure that this would work. I also plan on picking my wife up her own iPod.
Does anyone have one of these installed? Or know if it will work. Haven't had any luck on the Volvo forums getting an answer, so thought I'd try here.
    Thanks for the help.

Well it should work I don't see why Volvo will sell you something that doesn't work.

  • Multiple iPods on one computer question

    Hello,
I know this question has been asked already and I've read all the help topics about multiple iPods.
I've tried twice to use two iPods on one computer and it was not as easy as described. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
The first time I tried was on a PC running XP with two iPod minis. I had seperate user accounts and it kept erasing all the songs in one account.
The other situation was on a different PC running XP Pro with a shuffle and a 30gig photo.
I had my 30gig for about a year and as soon as I plugged in my shuffle it didn't recognize it and the next time I plugged in my 30 gig photo it froze and I had to end up doing the hard reset for it.
Tomorrow I am about to try a PC running XP with a shuffle, nano, and a video iPod.
I've read the two ways to do it and am going to try the specific playlist option.
I'm worried that as soon as I plug in the second iPod it will freeze and I won't be able to even get to the "iPod Option" Button in iTunes.
The computer is not mine nor are the music devices. I'm doing it for a friend who doesn't understand computers that well. All devices are new, never used.
Is it as easy as the process sounds?
Also the last time I tried multiple iPods was at least two iTunes updates ago.
    Thanks for any help,
    Chris

    Hello!
Let me explain this in detail for you:
    The Do Not Disconnect screen
It is normal for your iPod to say this message to you when you connect it to your computer.
When you need to disconnect it from your computer, you'll first need to eject it.
There are a few ways to eject your iPod; through iTunes, the Safely Remove Hardware program, and "My Computer".
    Through iTunes
Ejecting your iPod via iTunes depends on what setting your iPod is on for.
Connect your iPod. Go into Edit> preferences> iPod. See what setting your iPod is on; "automatic" or "manual".
    Automatic
If you aren't restoring, or updating your iPod, iTunes should automatically eject your iPod from iTunes. If it doesn't, then right-click the name of your iPod in iTunes, and make sure that the "enable for disk use" is un-checked.
    Manual
If you need to eject your iPod from iTunes if the setting is "manual", click the little arrow that's next to the name of your iPod in the left source list in iTunes.
Through the "Safely Remove Hardware" program
Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen, and there's the system tray icons there. If the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is there, click on it, select your iPod, and click "stop".
    Through "My Computer"
    Go to "My Computer".
Find your iPod's listing there (it's typically "E:" or "F:").
    Right-click it, click on "eject".
For additional information about ejecting your iPod, check this Apple Support articles about it.
    Safely disconnecting your iPod
About the "Do Not Disconnect" and "OK to Disconnect" screens on iPod
Any more questions? I'll be glad to try to help you again.

  • Can I disable an Ipod from ITunes/Other Questions

Hi all! I am new to this forum and to using IPods/ITunes, so I am still trying to learn as much as I can about them. I made the mistake of getting my very irresponsible young teenage son an IPod (Gen 3) Touch. I have asked him several times to hand the device over to me so I can review the browser’s history (I am not even sure if that is possible, but I was going to try). I am I have major concerns regarding the websites he may be visiting. I am not trying to violate his privacy, but if it was a problem showing me the device - why won’t he hand it over - so that raised some major red flags.
    So...my questions are:
Can I disable the device from ITunes? Or can I just delete the device from my ITunes Account? Would he still be able to use it?
I think I found a place on ITune where there was a place I could pick what parental controls that I wanted, I set those up - but I found this feature after he started hiding the device? Can this feature still work remotely without syncing?
Is there a way to view the browsing and internet history on the device (even if he would delete it)?
I am not sure if this would make a difference or not to answer my question, but when I had to set up the ITunes account, I did have to provide credit card information to start the account.
I do have my daughter’s new IPod (Gen 4) Touch also linked to the same ITunes account.
One more thought...can I just delete the ITunes account totally and start a new one for my daughter? Would this disable his device?
Again, I am very new to using an IPod. I can get around using them (and selecting the correct features) with a little direction though.
Thanks for your help and advice in advance it is very very appreciated!
    -SD

Can I disable the device from ITunes?
Not without being able to connect the iPod to the computer, no.
Or can I just delete the device from my ITunes Account? Would he still be able to use it?
    See above.
I think I found a place on ITune where there was a place I could pick what parental controls that I wanted, I set those up - but I found this feature after he started hiding the device? Can this feature still work remotely without syncing?
The parental controls feature in iTunes only works for iTunes, not for a portable device. There are similar restrictions on the iPod, but those can only be set on the iPod itself.
Is there a way to view the browsing and internet history on the device (even if he would delete it)?
No, sorry, if he clears the history, there's no way to view it.
can I just delete the ITunes account totally and start a new one for my daughter?
You can start a new one, but that won't affect any existing accounts. You can change the password on the iTunes Store account he's been using. That would block him from being able to purchase any new content through that account. But you can't stop him from opening up a new iTunes Store account by using a prepaid iTunes card, available from almost any grocery store.
    Would this disable his device?
    No.
Without being able to have the iPod in your hands, the only way you can affect it would be if you had set up the Find My iPod feature before giving the iPod to your son. If you had, you could then lock the iPod or wipe the data on it. Otherwise, there's nothing you can do until he gives you his iPod, at which time you could set up the Restrictions and, if you wish, download a web browser that allows you to set site restrictions and force him to use that browser.
    Regards.

  • Multiple iPods for 1 computer, questions???

Hi, I'm hoping I can explain myself in this....
Okay, a coworker brought in her iPod yesterday. It has a small amt of songs (100 maybe??) on it. She doesn't even have a computer, so the songs that were on it, were put on it by her ex-husband. She brought in some CD's and asked if I could download them onto her iPod for her. At first I was like, sure no problem. But now I am wondering what is going to happen when I try to do this??
I already have 4 iPods in my family using the iTunes account. So is it, correct to say that we are only allowed 5 iPods per iTunes account? I am personally hoping to get an upgrade for myself soon, but plan on keeping my old one too. So when I get my upgrade we will then be a 5 iPod family. If I add my friends, will she cancel my chance of being able to use another iPod? Also, when I hook her iPod up to my computer will it delete off the songs she has?
Sorry, can someone tell me if A) it is possible to help my coworker out and/or B) what will happen when I do hook it to my computer. thanks

I am not trying to share MY music. I don't want the CD's she wants me to add to her iPod, it is some Spiritual/Inspirational/Motivational CD's that I am not interested in.
I hate when I come in here and ask a question and people assume I am trying to screw the system. I am asking honest questions just trying to understand what I can do! Call me naive or whatever, I don't sit in here and study all the do's and don'ts of iTunes/iPods, but I thought that was what this forum was for...asking questions.
Please quit accusing me of illegal activity! That is why I am asking because I am trying to avoid that. So was it illegal for her ex-husband to buy her an iPod and load it with some songs for her???

  • New user, new iPod, new iTunes - some questions

    Hi,
I just got my iPod and this is actually my fifth hard drive based mp3 player but first iPod. I've owned one since before the iPod was released and yes, I was one of the reluctant ones. I'm thrilled with the feature set, the user base and the unit itself and glad to be on board.
I have a few questions, however, and I was hoping some of you could help:
    1. I have set iTunes to automatically synch all my music from iTunes to the iPod . I would like to actually exclude some albums from the device is there a more automated way to do this other than to set it to manual and then pull in all the tracks? I see an "only synch checked" option but it seems that applies to the songs already in the iPod. it would make sense to maybe have an "exclude from synchig" column for songs in iTunes, i would think. DO any of you have ways of resolving this?
    2. For my first charge, i am planning on following Apple's advice and charging until the iPod says "fully charged". Some posts here advise to overcharge for a few hours. This doesn't agree with how li-ion batteries are supposed to work but i was wondering if others did this as well.
    3. Do any of you use tag editors to edit the video tags? iTunes is sufficient for audio files but i find it lacking for video.
    Thanks.

    Hi snide!

If you go to "Edit -> Preferences -> iPod -> Music", you'll see that there is a setting called "automaticaly update SELECTED songs". From your description, it sounds like this option may be what you are wanting.
To make this work, create a new playlist in iTunes ("File -> New Playlist"), and select the albums from the library (dragging-and-dropping them to the new playlist) that you want to sync to your iPod through that playlist.
Now, go back to Preferences -> iPod -> Music. Select your setting to be "auto update SELECTED (not "ALL") songs". Select this new playlist in iTunes to sync to your iPod.
Whenever you want to sync more or less albums/songs to your iPod, drag the songs from your iTunes library to the iPod-syncing playlist, re-sync your iPod to iTunes, and the changes should be finished/recognized on your iPod.
    2. For my first charge, i am planning on following Apple's advice and charging until the iPod says "fully charged". Some posts here advise to overcharge for a few hours. This doesn't agree with how li-ion batteries are supposed to work but i was wondering if others did this as well.
Yes, I agree that this is not necessary; 3 hours of initial charge will do just fine.
I don't believe that overcharging would not make any difference in the long run, since that is not the nature or the way lithium-ion batteries work, as you said.
As I said, and initial 3 hours of charging (and/or until it says "Charged") is the only "best results" requirement that Apple states; you wouldn't need further charging to complete the process, or to make "even better results".
I personally cannot answer your 3rd question, as I do not have experience with videos in iTunes.
    I hope this helps!

  • New IPOD user with a question

Hi, I'm a new IPod/ITunes user, and I have a question that I can't find an answer to on any of the Help categories, so I thought I'd try here. Hope you all can help me out.
I love most pop, rock, and country music genres and sub-genres, but I'm also one of those mixed-up souls that love classical music as well (and gosh am I glad of it). But I don't want to mix my classical music in with "all other" on the same IPod. There's a number of reasons for this that I don't need to go into, but that presents my question.
I would like to have two IPods, one for classical and one for "all other". Can I have two different IPods on the same ITunes account so that I can connect and sync one type of music to one of them, and then connect and sync the other type of music to the second one? If not, then what are my options?
I hope this isn't a seriously dumb question, but I have no idea what I'm doing with this stuff, so I'm begging indulgence, and hoping some of you out there can help me out.
    Thanks so much!

I use method two from How to use multiple iPods with one computer with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which iPods should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's four iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • IPod touch 4th gen question about restoring to factory settings

I smashed the screen on my sons iPod still working but I bought a new one for him. I synced/backed up the smashed one and then connected the new one to the computer (iTunes) and restored it to the apps photos etc from the old one. We run on wi-fi. Now both iPods are working with all the same stuff on them both have the same apple Id and password and are synced to each ogher. My question is if I restore the old one to factory settings on the actual device  will it also restore the new one?? Please help and Thankyou for your time anyone who replies.

No.  How you sync one iPod does not affect the other. The same goes for restoring your iPod.  It will have no affect on the other one.

  • Apple iPod Nano replacement program - question

    Hello, Apple community,
I have a question about the new replacement program of the iPod nano 1st gen.
The program doesn't state whether or not you get a refund or a new iPod nano (the small squared once with touch screen).
The program says that you'll get a replacement iPod Nano, but isn't very specific if it is the new generation.
I apologise for any spelling mistakes and such.
    Thank you for any answer,

    Hi lindsayfromspencerport,
I can say it is not a scam - Apple is definitely replacing the iPods.  Once I read the article and went to apple.com, that proved it.  Apple.com would never risk another class action lawsuit over this iPod.
My First Generation iPod was given to me at work for being the winner of a give-away drawing and about a year or so ago it overheated and erased all the info on the iPod.  Now it will only charge and drain the battery.  It no longer allows me to store any thing on it.
I am glad that Apple is doing this exchange.  I thought I was just out of luck and was glad I had not paid full price for it.  I love my Nano and used it constantly!!!
Just send your's in using the box and label they send you and give them 6 weeks like the apple.com website says, Apple will make good on their product.  Millions of people don't stand in line and wait weeks/months for their new products to arrive for no reason, trust me.  Oh, by the way, I know this for sure.....I work for a wireless phone service that has been dealing with Apple for Yearsssssssssssss.....and every year the same thing.  People will give anything to get a product with that apple on it.

  • Best reasonably priced iPod FM Transmitter for the car?!?!?!?!

I've been looking at loads of FM transmitters out there and frankly I'm overwhelmed with which one to choose. I'd rather not spend 80 bucks if I don't have to but I also want something which will give me the best sound quality. I know that none will be perfect but it would be nice to have one that would give me enjoyable quality. I live in the bay area where we have tons of radio stations so I know that'll make it even more difficult. Has anybody (possibly in any metro area) had any real success with one of these? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
On a side note, I have a 2006 Altima w/Bose and SAT. Does anybody know of any relatively easy and/or inexpensive ways to wire the iPod to my car's audio if an FM Transmitter is not the way to go? I currently pay for Sirius so if it's possible to be able to use that when my iPod is disconnected that'd be awesome. Thanks again.

  • IPod Dock Photo / IPod Dock 3rd Gen Question

I just recycled my old battery exhausted 3rd Gen 20gig Ipod and bought the 20gig Ipod Photo.
Question: Can I use my old Ipod Dock (minus the S-Video Out of course) to transfer music and photos?
It doesnt seem to connect completely. I see the pod via itunes. I can see the disk via "My Computer" but the transfer of information seems to stop dead.
    Any answers?

Yes it works perfectly with both my firewire and USB. (which of course begs the question "Why am I trying to get the dock to work - it looks pretty on the desk and I dont want to shell out more coin for the Ipod photo dock).
Its just annoying to have the PC and ITunes both recognize the Ipod with the Dock but not allow music/file transfer.
My thoughts are different pin configuration?
    Thanks

  • Ipod showed folder with question mark inside

    Hello,
my ipod has lately shown a folder with a question mark inside of it when it was started (immediately after the apple symbol).
Now it shows me, after the apple symbol disappears, a line (from one end of the screen to the other).
I have an ipod which was introduced in 2003. It has 4 buttons below the screen and below that a wheel. It´s a 20GB.
I would really appreciate it, if some could help me out and give me some advice.

    Hi Mariondsummer,
Have you checked the suggestions in these Knowledge Base articles?:
iPod displays a folder icon with an exclamation point
iPod displays a sad iPod icon
Also, this post by Mitch, another user here on Apple Discussions, might be worth checking out. It contains a lot of things to try if you get an exclamation point and folder (or a sad iPod icon) on your iPod's screen:
Mitch 751: Exclamation point and folder and nothing else
    Any success?
