Ipod touch won't charge on Macbook computer

My ipod touch (purchased in Australia) won't charge on my Macbook Pro (purchased in America). Would would be causing this to happen? It charges on the wall socket but when it comes to the macbook it won't charge or even show up in itunes.

The screen just shows a faint red line on the battery with a lightning bolt below it

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch won't charge

    Hi, folks:
Suddenly, my 4th generation iPod Touch won't charge. I don't mean it won't hold a charge; I mean it WON'T charge. There's no (peep!) when I attach it to a Mac, a Windows box, or to the wall. I've tried not only at my place but at my doctor's office, too, on his computer. Rats.
It fell three feet onto a concrete floor a week before this happened, so I'm unsure of cause/effect there. However, chances are most excellent that I touched it while filled with static electicity (my bed is exceedingly staticky). Maybe I touched the charging port? I have no idea, but I kinda sorta have a memory of having gotten a shock while touching my pod and wondering whether that was bad.
It'll be a couple more days before I can get to a Genius Bar (but thank cow I'm in New York City and have my pick of them!). In the meantime, can anyone calm me down about my situation? Do you imagine it's doomed (it IS still operable provided I keep it plugged in, though iTunes can't see it since it won't mount), or do you spose the installation of a new battery might bring my precious baby back to me? It IS freshly backed up (again, thank cow!), but I'm not in a position to buy a new one right now, and unfortunately, I don't know what to do with my eyeballs without a Touch in front of them.
Oh, how I hope someone can tell me that this has happened to him, and an Apple Genius merely did something magical and handed it back intact and amazing again so Ican cry happy tears. It's been four days and I'm just sick without it (and having to look at this gigantic Mac, with its large and beautiful text in many windows, means I can't RECLINE! WAAAAH!).
Thanks for any soothing words you have, and if you have sad ones, well, I'll vag up and read them, as I've prepared for the worst anyway (sob!). Just please deliver them gently.
    I appreciate it!

Wow, Kevin; that's a tantalizing theory! I don't like it (I *never* like to think about logic board damage for any piece of hardware), but it's tantalizing, as it would explain my pod seemingly charging out of thin air, and it'd also explain why my pod doesn't just DIE altogether from a dead battery.
I feel like an idiot: I have iTunes set to never sync automatically with my pod, so it never automatically recognizes the pod. I'll bet I could sync it if I clicked to "apply," as I've been downloading new apps since 2/21 (the last time I backed the pod up, mere minutes before it failed), but I don't want to risk not having a connection that's 100% and bollixing up what's on the pod now. (I'll be in the hospital for a day and will need something to read the whole time; I'll need an intact pod!)
Thanks for sticking with me, Kevin; I always like figgering things out, and your theory's interesting. I'll mention it to the Genius. It doesn't give me any hope, but not having any hope, I can always be pleasantly surprised, whereas if I go in all hopeful, someone can dash my dreams. This way, I'll prolly just have my expectations met.
I appreciate your talking it out with me a lot!

I have a second generation iPod touch and every morning I could just plug it into my iMac and it would charge. But for some reason recently it won't charge unless the computer is awake. So at the login screen unless the screen is on it won't charge. I am not putting it to sleep where I have to push a key to wake it it goes to sleep by it self after a while which means the iPod won' charge which is a pain. Please help. Thanks in advance!

  • IPod touch won't charge while installed in vehicle through direct interface

    Hello,
This just began happening about two weeks ago. The touch won't charge while installed in the car directly through the interface. I have tried three different set-ups so I know it is not the iPod cable or stereo. It seems to charge and hold said charge fine through wall plug or CP but while in the car it only seems to charge enough to continue playing and then when the car is off, it acts as though it is no longer connected and dies so when I start the car the next time, I have to wait for the unit to charge enough to play...
Oh and it is a 1st gen 8gb touch.
Is this the battery or a hardware issue with the touch itself?
    Thanks for any help...
    Nick

I have the same problem with my Audi and started when I installed the 3.0 update. Besides I can't use the Hi Fi Apple device, which I bought 3 years ago. I'm sure the update didn't take in considerations old interfaces and the HiFi.

My ipod touch won't recharge after I let it run all the way down.  It shows an empty battery with a tiny bit of red, and a spiky unblinking circle on the batery.  I can't turn it off or slide the slider.  I tried to charge it for 8 hours and nothing.

  • Brand new iPod Touch, won't charge!

    Hi there,
Have posted this under another topic but hope to get some more exposure here.
Just as a disclaimer, I work for a retail store in New Zealand. Have taken a returned iPod touch home to try and fix, but am stuck! This iPod still belongs to my employer however, needs to be restored to a re-sellable condition.
Basically, the iPod touch will not charge. It is forever stuck on the 'no charge' screen with the red battery symbol and the lightning bolt at the bottom. This is when it is plugged in (have plugged it in to a PC, my Mac and wall charger). When not plugged in, same symbols appear except with a plug symbol, pointing to the lightning bolt.
When plugged in, the iPod doesn't show up in iTunes or Disk Utility, same on the HP PC laptop I also tried it on.
I put the iPod into DFU mode and restored it to the latest firmware with iTunes on my Mac. However, once the iPod has finished restoring, iTunes tells me it will show up after rebooting but once the countdown has finished, the same stupid 'no charge' symbols appear.
By the way, this iPod has been left charging on two different wall chargers overnight, I have tried restoring it several times and still to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I am totally stumped.
    Cheers!

Well since it has not been charging on multiple computers i would take a look at replacing the usb cable. Something could not be connecting right or just needs to be replaced. If this has already been done it is starting to sound like a battery issue with the ipod.
    Hope this helps!!

The music is not stored in the iTunes application itself. The music is stored in the iTunes Music or Media folder. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2279 provides more information about where the media is located.
If the issue persists after updating iTunes, try the general tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852.

  • Movies downloaded to iPod touch won't play on the computer when transferred over.

The movies I bought from an iPod touch , and then transferred to my computer using iTunes will not play. They give error code 2401 on QuickTime an say stuff like invalid codec, invalid sample description, etc. I'm very upset because I paid for these movies and I should be able to watch them! I've tried recouping them to my computer but nothing so far has worked. Pleeeease help me.

Have you converted the movie file to the correct Extention to play on the PC?
Go to the info panel of the file in iTunes and make sure it ends in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" those are playable in QuickTime Player.

  • New ipod touch won't charge/sync on the computer or using a wall charger?

My new ipod touch was working and i synced it on itunes and downloaded some apps and then it suddenly could not recognise it and stopped syncing.
it came up with error 0xe8000001 and said the iphone cannot be found, eventhough it's an itouch not iphone.
Now the error does not come up but it's not recognised on any of the computers. The cable is fine as it works for other ipods. It won't charge on the wall charger either and the battery is almost out. It syncs for about one second when i plug the usb into the computer and beeps and then disconnects again.
    Please help?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • IPod touch won't charge or respond to computer

I recently lost my iPod, but a wonderful woman found it and returned it to me. However, when I tried to plug it into my small iHome to charge it, as it had been mostly dead, it wasn't responding. It won't charge in the iHome (and it's too low of a battery to play any music, though I think it still can). I tried charging it with a wall charger with several different outlets and USB cords. Nothing. I tried plugging it into my mac laptop, and it doesn't even seem to read that the iPod is there.
I'm worried it's the inside that's given out, where the ipod connects with everything (sorry, I'm not good with termonology). Could it be something else? Is there something I can do to fix it, or is my poor little iPod doomed?

That actually did help a lot, thanks! It never said it was charging, but by the morning the battery showed it was almost full!
But now it's still running slow. It's been freezing up, and now the sound doesn't seem to be working. Songs won't start or will stop randomly, with no sound using it's internal speakers, head phones, or my iHome. It just starts making clicking noises that worry me. It also won't sync to my computer.
I've turned it off for several minutes and turned it back on, then reset it (holding both the on/off and home button down). I can see other ways of resetting it if needed.
Is the sound, or some internal chip/board, just shot? It is a bit old, and when I checked it over again I saw a nice dent in the back, so I worry it may have fell harder than I thought when I lost it.
I'm thinking my little iPod is on its last leg, but please someone correct me if I'm wrong!

  • My iPod touch won't charge or connect to my computer but connects to the wall charger!

My iPod is charging fine when connected to the wall charger but when I connect the same to my computer, it does nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! My stupid computer just gives the sound of a USB connecting. That's all! I updated my iTunes from 11 to 12 last night and I haven't connected the iPod to my computer in a while so I don't know when exactly it seized to connect properly. I can't risk going into recovery and requiring to connect to the computer to restore a backup too! What should I do?
