IPod USB trouble!

So I have an iPod Touch Gen 4 and whenever I connect the USB cable to my iPod and Computer it just does nothing. It makes the little jingle when you connect but that's it. I can't access my files or charge my iPod. I'm pretty positive it's not the charger because I can charge it with the adapter. I tried updating the drivers but they're already up to date. The device status says, "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" and I'm just looking for a way to solve this and be able to charge my iPod on my computer once again. (My computer is a Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop) Please help!

- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:

paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port

  • 4th gen ipod usb troubles

ok, so i bought a 20GB 4th gen. iPod off ebay and i can't get it to work with my computer. I have a Gateway laptop with roothub usb. My computer will detect the iPod, but not my iTunes. And it has trouble charging. I think it is a compatability with my computer so now what can i do? I don't really want to have to upgrade my computer just for my iPod, but as far as I know the iPod is the only device that will play the AAC iTunes files.

Apple created the stupid AAC file format to annoy Windows users.
Change your settings in Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing ~ to "Import Using 'MP3 Encoder'" - not AAC. If you wanna send music to a friend over AIM/MSN/Yahoo or whatever and they dont have iTunes, it's annoying, MP3 is more globally accepted.
So your iPod works with your computer, but not with the iTunes.
    Things to try:
    1) Re-install iTunes
    2) Reset iPod
Good luck and reply back soon!

  • Nano, Vista & iPod USB drivers

Before I install iTunes Vista recognizes my iPod, it shows up in My Computer and I can use it as a storage device. In Device Manager it shows up under disk drives as an iPod and under USB controllers as a mass storage device. After I install iTunes it loads new drivers, or it tries to. It installs a new iPod USB driver & then it tries to install iPod drivers and never finds them. It tells me the device drivers were not found & I can't use the device until they are loaded. Now the iPod won't even show up in My Computer. When I check Device Manager there is an entry for the iPod with an exclamation mark beside it & under USB controllers it is now listed as an iPod USB device. When I uninstall iTunes it still won't recognize the device properly but if I do a system restore, back to before I loaded iTunes, and then plug the iPod back in it goes back to recognizing it in My Computer as an iPod storage device and under Device Manager it checks out OK. I think the problem is with the new USB device drivers iTunes installs. When installed iTunes will start up no problem, it's just when I plug in the iPod it loads the problem drivers & I have to do a system restore to get my iPod back again. Please help, I've had to do a system restore 5 times now & it still won't work. I can either have an iPod loaded or iTunes load, just not both at the same time. I'm very familiar with computers & software but this is driving me crazy
BTW, my iPod is a new 3rd generation 8-GB Nano

I had a similar problem under XP Pro SP2. If you have a 3rd party USB2.0 enhanced driver for your USB port, you could try replacing it with the Vista generic enhanced driver. Once you've replace the USB 2.0 driver, verify that your Nano is still showing up as a mass storage device, and then try installing iTunes again.
I was using the Adaptec driver, which always gave a blue screen error when I connected my Nano after installing iTunes. After restoring a backup, I changed the USB driver and my Nano showed back up as a mass storage device. Then, after installing iTunes, everything was fine.
    Hope this helps!

  • Apple iPod USB Device driver issue on Win XP - syncing shuffle 2nd gen.

Hello fellow iPod shuffle users. Any of you run into this problem using the following configurations? Any advise/recommendations/workarounds much appreciated as I've burned 3 days on this issue and I'm still stonewalled.
I personally think it's a device driver issue/bug and am searching for a way to update my Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Two brand new ipod shuffles (received for Christmas 2008) are both behaving this way, so the problem most likely points to a global software issue more-so than to shuffle hardware issue.
PROBLEM STATEMENT: Driver data i/o streaming issue does not allow shuffle to sync data with iTunes after initial sync (i.e. reading the content of the shuffle is good, but writing modified content fails). Posted error message "The ipod ... cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found". After cracking the hood on my device driver, the problem seems to point to the Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Driver will recognize the shuffle and read to it, but subsequent write attempts will result in device driver balks that "this device cannot start (code 10)".
    ATTEMPTED WORKAROUNDS:
*Read All "How to Get Started Manuals" to make sure I was using the right technique for syncing my two shuffles from within iTunes... tried and failed
*Ensure only one shuffle was plugged in at a time (saw notice that two shuffles plugged in at the same time is not yet a supported config)... tried and failed
*The 5 R's as recommended by Apple Support... tried and failed.
*I've tried all 3 built in USB ports on my Lenovo T60. no love... tried and failed.
*Per discussion board: From Window's Device Manager-> Scaned for new hardware while shuffle was syncing...tried and failed.
    * Per Discussion board: From Window's Disk Management -> Ensured shuffle came up as a FAT32 filesystem... connection tore down as quickly as windows recognized it.... tried and failed.
*From Windows Software config utility: Ran repair to re-install itunes 8... same results.
*From Windows software management utility: Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8... same results.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad/Lenovo T60. Using build in k/b & no external mouse. Has 3 USB built in ports.
Software: Windows XP Pro SP2/iTunes 8.0.2/shuffle (2nd gen) driver 1.0.4 (same behavior using the original driver 1.0.3).
    Apple iPod USB Device properties:
    Driver Provider - Microsoft
    Driver Date - 7/1/2001
    Driver Version - 5.1.2535.0
Digital Signer - Microsoft Windows Publisher

Hi. Ive got pretty much the same problem.... Got a new shuffle for christmas..having real problems syncing with itunes. Funnily enough I managed to get 25 tracks on it but then it just stopped. error message says " The ipod shuffle cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." Ive done restore, and downloaded a reset utility thingy to try but still no joy.

  • Apple IPod USB Device Driver Not Installed?  WIndows not reconizing IPod!

Hoping someone can help me with my new Ipod Nano. I installed the IPod Updater and Itunes programs from the provided CD and formatted the Ipod. That all works fine -- the Ipod actually works, etc.
But during the actuall instation process, the Hardware Update Window came up for the 'Apple IPod USB Device' (I use Windows XP) I've tried to have it install automaticaly and manualy, without any luck. As a result, when the IPod is connected to the computer, I get a '!' on the device in Windows Explorer and neither ITunes or the Ipod Updater -- or Windows -- will reconize it!
If I connect my Ipod to the computer, the 'hardware' icon comes up in my system tray and the Ipod screen changes to the 'Do not disconnect' message. I can click on the hardware icon to 'remove' it. But I can't DO anything with the Ipod if nothing will reconize it!
I've tried updating the ITunes and Updater to the latest versions, plugged the USB cable into different spots on my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled everything, this time selecting the 'do not connect the Ipod to the computer at this time' option.....nothing. Windows just will NOT reconize the IPod and everytime I install the software I get that Hardware Update Window screen up!
Is there a driver for this I'm missing somewhere? What's going on? I can't do anything with my IPod and can't even find a phone number to call Apple for help!

This might be an issue with your operating system. You might also want to try using it on another computer before calling them as they'll probably ask you to do so. This will isolate the problem to your computer and they might tell you to try calling Windows or getting the latest drivers for your computer.

  • PC shuts down when I plug the iPod USB cable in :(

    Hi,
I have just bought an iPod Nano 8GB. Downloaded the latest version of iTunes and installed. Then as soon as plugged the USB cable into the PC it shut down instantly. I had to wait a good 5 minutes when before it would boot back up again. I have tried the front and rear USB port... but to no avail
I running Windows Vista and my PC spec is as follows:
AMD Athlon X2 4600 Dual Core
    2GB Corsiar RAM
    256MB GeForce 7600GS
    320GB SATA II HDD
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum with Nvidia nForce 3 Ultra Chipset (motherboard)
The USB ports are all 2.0 compatible.
    My PSU is 400W.
I have 3 USB devices plugged in the rear and nothing in the front. Devices connected are:
    Keyboard
    Printer
    Scanner
I am sort of guessing the iPod USB cable is causing a surge of some sort, but I might be wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be... and to fix it please?
    Many thanks,
    Gazza.

Have you tried to use a different USB port on the PC?
Does the same thing happen when you plug in a different USB device?
Try a restart of the PRE and try again. Go to device info, reset options and select restart. Try again and see if you get the same error.
When you get the Blue Screen Of Death in Windows, it ususally means that Windows has a problem and needs to be reinstalled.
You could try to re-insall the usb drivers for your PC and see if that may resolve the BSOD error. You may need to contact the PC manufacturer for assistance in re-installing the USB drivers.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • Apple iPod USB Power Adapter - ?

    Hello everybody!
I've got a problem with my new iPod mini and I hope you may help me.
After updating the new software for my iPod Apple told me to charge the battery with a Apple iPod USB Power Adapter which I don't have.
I tried to connect the iPod to my computer (Windows XP) but there's always the picture of the adapter on my iPod. I've tried to reset it, restart the computer and so on ...
But the display always shows this sign of the adapter.
I hope you can help me, I'd be very greatful.

    iPod mini   Windows XP

but it's already worked with my computer, the iPod worked alright, so I don't think that I need this stuff you've just named.
The iPod will work just fine without those things.
It's the update/restore process that needs the A/C adapter.
Anyway, you don't need to listen to me if you don't want to. I won't be insulted.

  • FM Transmitter used to work fine but stopped working, bought 2 new ones and neither work, they work with other Ipods in the house, IPOD Usb syncs fine with Computer, why won't it work with the FM transmitters anymore?

Are the other iPods models, same version as yours. The 2 New FM Tx may need a new iPod software, which you can update via iTunes.
    Good Luck!

  • Is it ok if I use ipod usb adapter model a1102 charger for my iphone 4?

Is it ok if I use ipod usb adapter model a1102 charger for my iphone 4?

You can use the A1102 charger to charge the iphone 5 as long as you have the lightning adapter.  I just got off the phone with an apple tech, and you can use the A1102 charger to charge the Iphone 5.

  • How do I get my ipod shuffle/nano to play music in my 2009 hyundai elantra's ipod usb port? It reads the device (ipod) and says its "empty"?

I have a 2009 hyundai elantra with an ipod usb port, when I try to hook up my shuffle with its usb connector to my car, the stereo dashboard says its reading the device and then says the device is empty...therefore no music gets played or heard. What am I doing wrong? Or is there some sort of cable i need to be using with my ipod to get it to play in my car?Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either you have accidently posted this in the wrong forum (this is the LiveType discussion board), or the fora are screwing up again (if they ever stopped). To answer your question, though, you need some kind of converter that will export only the audio. I'm sure there are many free solutions out there, but not being familiar with Windows, the only one I know off the top of my head is Quicktime Pro ($30).
Either way, your iPod problems shouldn't be affecting your caps lock key.

  • Help...i lost my ipod usb...what should i do??

Help...i lost my ipod usb...what should i do??

Well... you can get them online in the Apple store, in an actual Apple store if there's on near you, probably also any store that carries iPod accessories, ebay, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Fry's, CompUSA,...
It's $19.00 in the online Apple store.

  • Updater - ipod usb interface not recognised at PC

I have a a 15GB ipod with dock connector. It was working fine playing songs and was visible from my Windows XP PC via the single USB cable. I could see ipod files.
I downloaded ipod updater 2005-09-23 and selected update.
    Thereafter :-
Ipod is no longer recognised by the PC, it gives - "usb device not recognised" when the menu button is pressed.
The ipod screen is blank. Reset gives the apple logo then the icon asking to connect the cable ( which is already connected).
Other usb interfaces on the PC give the same message.
Other devices connect OK to these USB interfaces.
The cable was working prior to the update.
Another PC ( compaq laptop ) gives the same "usb interface error message" when the ipod is connected.
the problem is within the ipod usb interface.
The updater appears to have corrupted/changed the ipod "usb interface"
I am unable to update again or restore as no connection available to the PC.
How can I restore the ipod's usb connectivity?

I went out and bought a firewire cable today.
The ipod was immediately recognised and ITUNES updated. I then connected the USB cable. It now works OK as well. I am so relieved.
On the updater screen, if you right click on the top bar, it drops down the "ipod models" updated by this version.
For my model it shows a firewire icon on the ipod. Is this co-incidence? I expect so.

  • My iPod USB won't be recognized, and is always blinking orange.... HELP!

I have tried all I could to make my iPod USB recognized.... I have tried the five R's, and all support systems, but it still doesn't work AT ALL. Is it my iPod or is it my computer??? I really need help. And also, it turns orange every second..... I can't restore it...... i really am stuck on this one. HELP.
P.S.: cool iPhone. I like it.

I had the same issue with my Shuffle about 4 months ago, and replaced it with a Nano. I happened to find this link a couple of days ago here on Apple site that did fix my problem, but as another poster mentioned, you have to have access to a computer to restore the Shuffle.
Download the file and then follow instructions to restore Shuffle - you will lose any data or music on it when you do this. Also, I have had to reset it twice.
