Is Adobe Edge Code ready for day-to-day use?

Yes and no, as it depends on what features are needed for your workflow. We hope to have a version of Adobe Edge Code that is ready for a broader day-to-day use definition within the next couple releases going into 2014 [timeline updated based upon all your recent feedback]. Until then, we'd appreciate your help in testing it out!
If you're passionate to assist in the future of Edge Code, consider contributing directly to its base open source project Brackets.

Manigandan,
Thank you.
Some PCs with less RAM or slower processors cannot display Flash in a smooth and fluid motion. Te motion is jerky or hesitant, with breaks an gaps.
So, can you tell me if Edge will NOT have the same jerkiness in motion as Flash does?
Will Edge retain all graphical elements and quality....and show all motions and actions as I set in Flash?

Does Anyone Knows How To Disable The "Check For Updates" Option in Adobe Edge Code and Reflow?

I don't think there is a way for Edge Code. I'm not sure about Reflow.
Why don't you just upgrade? That will stop the notifications.

  • What is the difference between Brackets and Adobe Edge Code?

Adobe Edge Code is a distribution of the Brackets open source project optimized for professional web designers and developers. This build of Brackets includes community and Adobe-built extensions that are not part of the Brackets open source project. If you are a Creative Cloud member, this is version is made special for you.
But, we're just getting started. Currently we have support for the free Adobe Edge Web Font service. The next release will add support for previewing directly on devices as you develop with Edge Inspect CCM and we'll be adding more integrations over the next few months.

  • How to uninstall Adobe Edge Code Preview 3 after installing Adobe Edge Code CC

After installing Adobe Edge Code CC via Creative Cloud I have noticed I still have Adobe Edge Code Preview 3 on my machine.
There is no specific uninstaller in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers
So how do I uninstall it?

Hey Jarrid, you can just drag it to the trash to get rid of it. The preferences are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Edge Code/ so you can delete that folder as well to completely remove it.

  • Adobe Edge code CC

Hello, Adobe Edge Code CC does not seem to be part of my CC account, its not showing the App in the Creative Cloud application! Any suggestions as to how to get it?

Edge Code has been discontinued in favour of Brackets - A modern, open source code editor that understands web design.

  • Adobe Edge code live preview is not working

I've recently downloaded Adobe Edge Code and noticed that the live preview doesn't work when i edit it and i also checked the source code and sore that it didn't change. The icon in the top right corner is yellow, i am using Windows 7 and Google Chrome.

The general rule of thumb is: only the contents of .css files are updated in real time as you're typing, in the current version of Live Preview.  To see anything else, you must save your changes and reload the webpage.  In the latest version of Brackets (and therefore the next upcoming release of Edge Code), we make this a little easier by automatically reloading the page when you save.
Down the road, we'd like to make .html and .js update as you're typing too -- we're just not there yet.  Here are the user stories tracking those future features:

  • Is there an Adobe Edge (code) CC Roadmap that shows Adobe's plans for future updates of Edge?

This is something I'm extremely interested in seeing for this family of Adobe Products as many really awesome projects (namely Open Source) do this so that early adopters and beta testers have a general idea of what is to come. Hopefully someone within this forum or one of you wonderful Adobe employees could guide me in the right direction. Or if such a thing doesn't exist, perhaps it'll inspire you guys to make one!
    Cheers!

Edge Code CC is a distribution of Brackets, so you can follow the Brackets Trello Board.

  • Why is Adobe Edge Code labeled as a Preview?

We are excited to share an early preview of Edge Code, but our work is far from complete. While this version is stable and mostly free of bugs, the product is still missing several features that might be required for day-to-day use. If you run into any problems, we're here to help you on the forums.

heathrowe Cant find any information for edge animate in there, only full.

  • What does it mean when Adobe Edge Code CC (Preview) highlights a line number?

    For example:

Yes, I agree that better discovery is needed here. I recently opened a bug with some suggestions.
In case you were not aware, Edge Code is built on top of the Brackets editor. You can find out more info in the How to Use Brackets doc and the Troubleshooting Brackets doc.
As far as the syntax error, I can't see enough of your doc to say for sure. I assume that you have an opening <body> tag, but it could be incorrectly nested inside <head> tag. Most likely is that it's not the <body> tag but the tag immediately inside it -- maybe an unclosed <div> tag?
Thanks for trying out Edge Code CC Preview.
    Hope this helps,

  • Adobe Edge Code Error HELP!

When i try to make a new file it comes up with a error message it says Error creating file, An error when trying to create the file "name.type". The target directory cannot be modified.

    >> file open folder and clicked on the folder gettingstarted and opened it
You need to pick a different folder, other than Getting Started.  If you pick a folder located inside the Edge Code install location (such as Getting Started), you will not be able to create any new files or folders there.  If you pick a folder somewhere else, such as inside your Documents folder tree, then it should work.

  • My Evaluation of Adobe Edge Code CC

    Pros:
    •          Conversion of images for export of assets from PS works well
    •          Reflow interface is quite sophisticated and the GUI makes it really easy to conceptualize the how your composition will flow when resizes with all the breakpoints.
    •          The artboard has a configurable grid system with gutters.  You can snap objects to the grid.  This is very powerful and would dramatically help with the designers in colouring inside the lines.
    •          They provide a pretty good demo for you to poke around and learn from
    •          The html it exports can be not bad. See caveat below
    •          When presenting the composition to the client, you are meant to present the html export and let them play around with resizing the browser.  You can host this on a server and clients can get a better concept of how it should behave. See Caveat below
    Cons:
    •          When converting PS to Reflow, it really does a poor job of converting the text positions and dimensions.  You almost have to redo it all.  It could cause a lot of duplication of work
    •          When converting PS to Reflow, the group / layer structure all gets lost and you must create the DOM structure by grouping objects. This is time consuming and unintuitive
    •          The role of the designer would have to adapt. The designer would have to understand min-width, max width, floating, position absolute/relative, etc.  This might be a really big stretch.
    •          Although the export to html works well.  Currently on chrome is supported.  Adapting it to IE8 would take considerable time.
    •          The html is not bad, it’s a good starting point, however it is all ID based and there is no reuse of styles by using classes. The html would take a lot of reworking.
    •          The css is not bad, however its really verbose, uses non-essential properties, doesn’t use classes and does not reuse common styles. You may be able to borrow components, but not use it entirely
    •          If you had to present a static export of the composition to the client, there is currently no way to export as image from reflow a JPG or PDFs. You would have to screenshot the html in each of its form factors
    •          You cannot actually design in Reflow, only add divs, text boxes, optimized images, form elements, etc…
Maybe someone can comment on my cons?
    Thanks,
    David

Hey smartcookie media, some thoughts, also love to get more of your feedback:
When converting PS to Reflow, it really does a poor job of converting the text positions and dimensions.  You almost have to redo it all.  It could cause a lot of duplication of work
We'd love to get a PSD from you where this is causing issues. We're actively trying to find users pain points with PS conversion. If there are discrepencies, especially on text, we want to see it. Feel free to email me a PSD at sewalker at adobe dot com. Can just be the text layers, no need for a big huge file.
When converting PS to Reflow, the group / layer structure all gets lost and you must create the DOM structure by grouping objects. This is time consuming and unintuitive
Do you feel like your PSDs are a good representation of the DOM? I feel like when I design in PS, I'm thinking about the DOM, but I know not all designers work that way. So we've been pretty hands off on converting folders from PS into groups. If you could talk a bit more about your specific usage, that'd be cool.
The role of the designer would have to adapt. The designer would have to understand min-width, max width, floating, position absolute/relative, etc.  This might be a really big stretch.
Y U NO LIKE CSS? We actually think there is a growing group of designers and developers who all simply work on the web, and CSS is their first priority. But it's all in how Reflow is used, we know we need to let people who begin in PS have a really smooth transition. This kind of goes towards your last point, which I'll get to.
Although the export to html works well.  Currently on chrome is supported.  Adapting it to IE8 would take considerable time.
Do you require more browser support? What do you need in order to show clients? We've only focussed on webkit browsers at the moment, but with increased interest, we may look to improve that.
The html is not bad, it’s a good starting point, however it is all ID based and there is no reuse of styles by using classes. The html would take a lot of reworking.
The css is not bad, however its really verbose, uses non-essential properties, doesn’t use classes and does not reuse common styles. You may be able to borrow components, but not use it entirely
Yeah, right now we don't support classes. So most of this feedback is around that issue. We've been working on it, but it adds a lot of complexity. The verbose-ness is definitely something we could take a look at, as well as reusibility if only on the exported styles.
If you had to present a static export of the composition to the client, there is currently no way to export as image from reflow a JPG or PDFs. You would have to screenshot the html in each of its form factors
I think you could do it by using Edge Inspect on your devices. That allows taking screen shots.
You cannot actually design in Reflow, only add divs, text boxes, optimized images, form elements, etc…
I actually would challenge this. I've been working in Reflow a lot recently—obviously, I work on it. But I'm actually getting used to designing with the tool. I associate it more to using InDesign, not Photoshop. Obviously I cannot pixel-edit an image, but for layout and styling its getting pretty good, but we still have a ways to go, no doubt.
This is great feedback, thanks for writing it up. We do add this kind of stuff to our back log and it helps us see priorities for users.

  • Adobe Edge code error

When i try to make a new file it comes up with a error message it says Error creating file, An error when trying to create the file "name.type". The target directory cannot be modified.

Seems like you're creating a file in a project using a system restricted direcrtory (eg. a directory under "Program Files (x86)"). If this is the case, then you need to move the entire project outside of the the system restricted directory.

  • Moving from Flash to Adobe Edge - concerns

Lets Design makes flash banners for some of our clients (we also make flash games).
We'd like to shft toward html5 animated banners. As a business we do not wish to take a risk and jump to using Adobe Edge / HTML5 if it's deemed too risky. I would like to know if anyone has any reasons for us not to do this shift?
I would also like to know of this communities opinions on the following:
    1. Their is a post on Adobe Edge examples. Inside this thread are a number of links to peoples examples. A vast majority point to 404 pages and to pages that take an age to load. Should this slow loading example pages be of concern to us and subsequently our clients?
    2. What are the best graphic formats to use for Adobe Edge. I'd like to start using SVG, yet Adobe seems to have a lack of integration between software packages. Where do you create vector SVG and does it form part of a good workflow with Adobe Edge?
If not, what is the best method for Vector graphics, it seems Edge haas it's issues with dealing with vector?
    3. Does it support sound yet?
    4. What programming can go alongside the animations. Javascript?
How deep can you program the animations, can you make games?
    5. If you were to recommend a rival software to Adobe Edge, what would be the best alternative?
    Is it better?
    6. If you could say 1 really bad thing about Adobe Edge, what would it be?
    7. How steep is the learning curve for someone who animates in flash?
I welcome any answers and help you can give me, even just to answer 1 of the questions.
    Thanks and best regards,
    David

    Hi there,
I'm not sure what page you are talking about that has 404 errors on the examples. The Edge Animate Showcase can be found in the link below which has examples of Edge Animate that all work and load perfectly fine for me:
    http://html.adobe.com/edge/animate/showcase.html
There's all different options for graphics/image formats for Edge Animate. Ultimately it's up to you and what you want to deliver for your audience, but the link below points to an article written to explain all of the different image types and what their pros/cons are, as well as talks about best practices for images in Edge Animate:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/edge-animate/kb/best-practices-graphics-edge-animat e.html?promoid=KBHBC
There is a way to add sound in Edge Animate, however it is all dependent upon the browser's support of audio. This thread below will point you in the right direction on code examples to add sound to your file:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4736869
The programming that Edge Animate supports is Javascript, CSS3, and HTML5. Many users have made games using Edge Animate, and you can find links to examples of these in the Edge Animate Showcase link that I posted above.
At this time there really isn't anything quite like Edge Animate with it's tools and smooth integration into the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite. My suggestion to find rival software is to search on a search engine for HTML5 software.
The learning curve for Edge Animate for Flash users is minimal. Coming from Flash myself, it only took a couple of days for me to pick up the interface and functionality of Edge Animate. Below is a link to the getting started tutorials on Edge Animate:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/edge-animate/topics.html
I hope this helps! I know some of these answers are a little vague but my only suggestion is to try out Edge Animate for yourself and see if it's right for you. I know I fell in love with it as soon as I started using it. : )
