Factory Reset Toshiba Satellite M305-S4848

Hello,
We recently got this model laptop from a friend due to the fact ours was stolen. I'd like to factory reset it, but I was wondering if I really need to copy the restoration data onto seperate disks, or if I can just do it from my system. I did read page 60, as referred to other customers, yet I don't understand it. Thanks in advance.

All models after a certain cutoff (and I don't have that information, but it was at some point during Windows XP's reign) come with the recovery partition unless a client specifically didn't want it. When recovery went this route, recovery discs stopped being packaged with the notebooks. Certain models, usually business models, don't have the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator application. I don't know the specific reasoning, but the specs should indicate whether or not it comes with this software (and I thank you for bringing that to my attention).
Sorry I don't have more information. As is usually the case, I wouldn't be surprised if there were exceptions to these rules either.

  • Factory reset my satellite laptop

hey, i would like to factory reset my satellite x200/x205 series. it's an old computer with alot of stuff on it. i would just like to in a way start fresh with a "new" computer. i have backed up and transferred all my important files and documents already and my computer is ready for a reset. am i doing this right? if i factory reset my comp will it mess up any drivers or anything else on my comp? if so how can i fixit or update any possible drivers afte the reset? i have the toshiba recovery and applications/drivers that came with the computer for windows vista home premium 32 bit disk one and two. if i put those in and follow the prompts is this all i need for a factory reset? i also have the upgrade your windows vista experience disk that came with the computer also.

When I had so much trouble installing Windows 7 from the purchased cd, I had to do an "out of box recovery" for my laptop . Make a back up disc of everything you want to keep. I only did Windows Photo Gallery, there was nothing else of importance to backup. Then insert the Toshiba Recovery Disc that came with your computer at the time of purchase, and follow all the directions.  If you do not have the Recovery Disc, call  1-800-457-7777, they can send you one, for a very small charge (?? $20.00 or so ??) Make sure you have your Internet Security and Anti-virus disc ready to install. Personally, there were less problems with the install than the download. TIP TIP TIP I use my favorites box all the time, so I wrote down every site I had listed there...that way when the out of box recovery was complete, all I had to do was go to my list (abc order) and open each page or site, then hit add to favorites. That saved me so much time !!! I also write down the passwords for each site, just so I don't have to remember them, and when you're working and trying to think...well senior moment takes on a life of it's own !!!   Hope I helped

  • Help - Internal Microphone Problem Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910

    Hello,
I really hope someone can help me.  2 days ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910 after reading rave reviews on BestBuy.com.    After attempting to use the internal microphone I discovered the following problem.
When I am on a video chat, it sounds like there is a lot of static on the line.  As soon as I plug in a headset, the sound goes away.  I called best buy for the free 14 day support and they said I have two options.  Bring it in to exchange for a new laptop or PAY for a service person to come troubleshoot it for me.   I have spent the last 3 days transferring files, loading programs, and now I have just about everything set up on this laptop.  I do not want to go EXCHANGE it for a new one and do that all over again.  I can reload software if its something simple like that.  Does anyone have any ideas how I can diagnose and possibly repair myself?  Part of the reason I liked this one is the built in mic and webcam since I video chat A LOT!
    Thanks
    Kristine

    Hi,
Since that the problem goes away with the use of external mic, it is very likely that the internal mic is malfunctioning or maybe a loose wire to the mic is causing the problem. Fixing these yourself means taking the notebook apart and possibly voiding your warranty.

  • Re: Can't perform factory reset to Satellite L650

    Hi support team,
    Hope you are well :)
I have some troubles and hope you will help me to resolve them. Here is the description of my problem:
I have a Toshiba Satellite L650 - 17R laptop which I want to reset to factory defaults. I have used the following instructions to do that (http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm), but when I'm pressing to the F8 upon notebook's startup there appears a list of choises on the display which doesn't contain "Repair Your Computer" or "?????????????? ???????" or something like that. The first entry in that list is "Safe Mode", second is "Safe Mode With Networking" and so on. Also I've tried the other method described in lots of places in the internet, that is to press 0 and power buttons together when turning on the laptop. In this case again it starts to do things as described in the instructions (for example here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5dEOm1EJBw): it beeps then, when I'm releasing the 0 button, it prints "starting Windows" and shows Windows logo, after that it turns on as always and no other dialog boxes are shown.
    Questions:
Is there an alternative way to do the factory reset?
I have doubts that the "Toshiba HDD recovery" tool of my laptop is corrupted, so is it possible to download that tool from the internet, put it on dvd disk and install from there? If yes, then can you please give me a link of that tool for my model?
    Best Regards,
    Mihran Hovsepyan.

Hello Mihran and welcome in Toshiba forum
Lets see what is wrong there.
At first some general info. Every new Toshiba notebook is preinstalled with original recovery image. This image is also saved on HDD on separate partition. With original factory settings Repair my computer option will be listed in Advanced boot options (F8 at start-up) and HDD recovery option can be done as described in Toshiba document that you posted in your first posting. If nothing is changed this option will be there and you will be able to do HDD recovery installation again ad again.
    > when I'm pressing to the F8 upon notebook's startup there appears a list of choises on the display which doesn't contain "Repair Your Computer"
This will happen if you have installed own OS version using Microsoft installation disc. After doing this option Repair my computer will disappear and you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation anymore.
    > Is there an alternative way to do the factory reset?
Yes. You must use recovery DVD disc for OS installation. After doing this everything will be as before. Repair my computer option will be available again and you will havce original factory settings again.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • How do you factory reset a Satellite M50 -159

    Hi,
I need to factory reset the above laptop. I've looked through the forum and seen a post saying to press 0 to access this option but this doesn't work. The laptop did not come with any CDs as the factory software is on a hidden partition on the hard disk.
Any other suggestions as to how to access the factory reset options?
    Thanks in advance
    Michael

According to the User's Manual for your Satellite M50, it came with a "Product Recovery Disk."

I'm trying to factory reset my Satellite A215-S5837 to sell, I've been trying to do that hold 0 when you start the laptop but all it does is stay on this black screen with toshiba leading innovation and it stay on it till i realese the 0 button,

I agree that it's confusing. And I could be wrong.
All that is in the section Hard Drive Recovery Utilities, which begins on p. 59 of the User's Guide.

Just below that section heading is this disclaimer.
       (Available on certain models)
If you inspect the spec for your model, you'll see that there is no software listed to burn recovery discs from that hidden partition. That was the basis of my inference. But it may have been left off the list in error.
It's easy to discover whether the partition is there or not. Simply open Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) and take a look.

  • Satellite M645-S4048, factory reset, image driver not working correctly

After searching the Toshiba support site for a way to reset my computer to factory settings, I attempted the preinstalled method (holding 0 while starting up the laptop), and everything looked to be fine until the system began installing Toshiba drivers. Once it installed the "Intel graphics driver", and restarted the computer to complete it's installation, I couldn't get past the BIOS without the screen going blank. I can hear Windows starting up and popups for auto-restarting the computer before the computer restarts and does the same thing all over again, but no image. It seems like the computer makes no connection to the monitor whatsoever past the BIOS. I attempted to restart in Safe Mode, where windows shows a popup stating "Windows cannot complete installation in Safe Mode. To continue installing Windows, restart the computer." But the I also tried plugging in an external monitor, but I get the same response there as well. If I need to reattempt the factory reset, is there a way I can prevent Toshiba from installing that Intel graphics driver?

I don't believe there is a way to do that, no. However, I agree that reattempting the factory reimage would be your best bet.

  • Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320 recovery help!

All the pc does is go to the Toshiba Splash screen, and then a blue screen that says "Recovery your PC needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accesed. Error code: 0x0000185.
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media contact your system administrator or PC manufactuer."  I have tried resetting the firmware and also holding down 0 like Toshiba instructs. However, after I select yes to get into the HDD recovery, the screen flashes white and then goes right back to the same recovery screen no matter what I do. It's very irritating when I can't even get recovery to work -___-. Someone please help me out? I don't have any recovery disks, etc.

To restore your laptop back to it's "ORIGINAL FACTORY SPECS" you must 1st access "Boot Options" on your Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5320, or similar model & here's what worked for me. Start the laptop while tapping the "F12" key. This will open your boot options menu. At the very bottom of the list is an option called "HDD Recover"...click on it if you want to be able to access your "Advance System Recovery Options" where you'll be given new options allowing you to restore your laptop back to it's original factory specs. Please don't forget to give me "Kudos" by clicking onto my Kudos button next to my post if my solution was able to help you in any way...thanks.~: )  (((A+ Discount Computer Repair, Alb, NM)))

  • Toshiba Satellite C40T-ASP4268FM Recovery messed up, windows 8 re install

I bought this laptop Toshiba Satellite C40T-ASP4268FM, practically new, plastic protectors still attached. Tried to remove microsoft account by factory reset, because there is no other way to delete one. After that it asked me to check and restore windows and froze on 40% after several attempts I somehow managed to get back on windows, but then after shutdown froze after welcome screen. I decided to install linux,it prompted a message that I could not install it. I tried to go back to windows 8, I have a DVD with an ISO I downloaded from Microsoft page before the release of 8.1, but I can´t install it because is a wrong Key. So I assume It would be the same with windows 8.1. It does not boot a DVD with windows 7, So I pretty much ended up with an expensive paper weight. How can I re install windows 8? I'm Mexican and so is the laptop.

  • Did a Windows 7 reinstall, now I can't factory reset to get drivers (p775)

My satellite p775 bricked after randomly restarting it last week. I tried to factory reset it but it hung up several times during the reset. So I took somewhere to be assessed and it was determined that the problem was a software malfunction. I had a fresh Windows 7 reinstalled and now it works perfectly.
However, I don't have any of my drivers. I figured I could factory reset it now without problem to install all those drivers again but when I go to do it, I don't have the option. I went on Toshiba's website to download the drivers manually but I don't know where to start. I'm not the most computer savy person. I wanted to factory reset it because it's easier and it installs all the drivers I was used to having before it bricked. Any advice?

Hi! I know what you mean. I really like all the Toshiba features. I have used my recovery CD's (5 of them) to restore back to factory one time. It worked pretty much without a glitch. I think I had to eject and reinsert one of the CD's, but it went back to factory and everything restored back to factory settings. I sense then have created a flash drive with factory restore on it. Haven't had the need to use it, but makes me feel good knowing I have it in a drawer I guess if you want the Toshiba restore to factory, you will have to order it from Toshiba. I supplied the link in my first reply. We learn from our mistakes and some times we have to pay the price. I'm very happy with my Toshiba PC. I joined this forum to pass forward what I have learned about my Toshiba. Good luck. The CD's will cost you 30$ shipping
