Is Calendar Server accessible through a firewall?

What ports on a firewall need to be opened in order to access the Calendar
Server over the internet?
<P>
Ports 5730, 5731, 5732
However, this configuration is not recomended unless you are in a secure
environment since there is not a secure Calendar protocol.

The point of using a web-based e-mail client is that ports 80 and sometimes 443 are the only ports you can be sure are open in most cases. It's the protocol that's blocked by the firewall, not the application. If pop and imap are blocked, then no pop or imap client will work.

  • NTP server unreachable through ASA firewall

    Hi all,
I've configured a DMZ switch to point to an NTP server on on the Inside, but I get a debug message on the switch that says:
NTP: <NTP server IP address> unreachable
I'm confident that the NTP server is configured properly, as there are more than a dozen other hosts using it, successfully. The difficulty here is that the NTP packets are having to flow from the DMZ to the Inside. I have a rule set on the firewall that permits the IP address of the switch to connect to the IP address of the NTP server as follows:
access-list intdmz1_acl extended permit udp host <IP address of switch> host <IP address of NTP server> eq ntp
I can see the hit counter on this rule incrementing.
The firewall can ping the NTP server, and the NTP server can ping the switch, so I think routing is OK.
    Output from the DMZ switch:

  • Is anyone using the Calendar Server to send external invites?

Is anyone using the Calendar Server to send external invites?
We have a Mountain Lion server running DNS, Open Directory, File Sharing and VPN. We have recently stood up the Calendar server and it is working very well. Internal invites work fine and are instantaneous to computer, iPhone, iPad. We have the ports working so that calendar items created outside the network work fine as well. Only problem is we cannot invite anyone with an external e-mail address. Each time we do the Calendar Error Log populates with:

We have set up an internal e-mail address. I have confined that it works fine. I have tried more than one internal account. I have also verified the settings through the command line by typing "sudo serveradmin settings calendar" The iMIP sending and receiving information is correct. There is no authentication type setting listed in the command line output even though there's a place to choose it in the Enable invitations by email - Edit button on the third screen. No matter what I choose it goes back to "login" and still doesn't work.
The command line settings mention a port number 62310 as being the MailGatewayPort but opening that port on the network's firewall makes no difference. As I said external set up works fine from Mac/iPhone/iPad and push notification works fine as well.
    Is anyone using this functionality?

I'm sorry. I forgot to add Mail to the list of services. I AM using mail on that server. Here's the iMIP portion of my settings output from Terminal.
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Server = "boardwalkserver.kuhnwitt.com"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:UseSSL = yes
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Username = "calendarserver"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Address = "[email protected]"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Password = "password"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Sending:Port = 465
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Enabled = yes
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:MailGatewayPort = 62310
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Server = "boardwalkserver.kuhnwitt.com"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:UseSSL = yes
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Username = "calendarserver"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:PollingSeconds = 30
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Type = "imap"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Password = "password"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:Receiving:Port = 993
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:AddressPatterns:_array_index:0 = "mailto:.*"
    calendar:Scheduling:iMIP:MailGatewayServer = "localhost"
So Add mail to the services being used. Since Calendar is running on the mail server one would assume that it could communicate with it fairly easily.

  • Portal access through a firewall

    Hi there!
Having the default installtion of R2 on a single W2K box, what's the minimal procedure to make this configuration available through a firewall?
I've opened ports 7777-7778 but fail when trying to logon via SSO (host.domain.com:7777/pls/orasso)
Have I missed out to open another port or am I forced to follow the steps of setting up a reversing proxy to have portal-access outside the firewall?
    Cheers
    /Staffan

If they are on different servers, then both are listening on the 7777 port, and you will have to change one of them to use another port (assuming your firewall can only port forward a port to only one host).
If you are running both instances on the same server, then your SSO is accessible via 7777 and your midtier would be on 7778, so your setup as described should be enough (I do the same thing).
If they are running on the one machine, can you access the SSO/INF server directly? http://inf.domain.com:7777 and then http://inf.domain.com:7777/pls/orasso ?

  • Can I use the Calendar Server on OS X Server to sync Calendar

    Hello,
I would like to know if I can use OS X Server to sync my calendar and addresses on my different devices (iPhone, iPad and MacBook) like in iCloud, or is this only possible in Workgroups?
Also I wondered if I can connect to my OS X Server shared folder from a differen Network when the server has a WWW Domain name?

It is possible to set up OS X Server with services for calendar and contacts for the users, and when you use the same user login on different devices, the contacts and calendars will update across them (assuming you have network connections to the server and the devices are set to automatically get changes with push notifications). The only issue I've seen with this is when you set up the services on a Mac, you will have the "On My Mac" calendar and contacts group (iCloud does not show this when you set up a device with iCloud as it really is modifying the local copies of the data and pushing changes to the server).
It is possible to connect to shared folders hosted by OS X Server if the server and network are set up correctly. To access it over the internet, you have two options:
Port forward (possibly with NAT translation) AFP or SMB ports through your firewall to your server. This would allow you (from a machine on the internet not on your local network) to access the shared folder in Finder as afp://yourserver.example.com (where yourserver.example.com is your domain name, or in the case of a home server, a dynamic DNS name that updates when your external IP address changes).
Setup VPN on the server and allow VPN services through your firewall. By creating the VPN, you would have access to your network (the one the server is on) like you were locally attached to it and not over the internet (with the exception of Bonjour services. Bonjour broadcasts don't work over VPN).  The VPN (if configured properly) would add another level of encryption to the data transfers (I don't recall off the top of my mind if AFP is encrypted by default). You can also set up DHCP and DNS with a primary zone and add the name of your server (and/or other computers) to this zone and be able to use Bonjour like addresses (like myserver.local).
As to which is 'better,' I would recommend the VPN route as I am cautious opening ports on my router/firewall and would allow access to more than just the one machine.  But in the end it will depend on what you feel like trying (with the help of these forums, other forums, and Google) and how paranoid you are about security.  If you implement the VPN, you could access your shared folders, your contacts and calendars securely from the internet, but you would have to have the VPN enabled to get push notifications/updates.

  • Calendar Server user can not receive external invites

    Hi,
We have a MacPro running ML Server 10.8.5 with 10 user accounts using the calendar and file server services.
Calendar server is where the issue is. We have 10 + users that are set up to send and receive external invites in calendar server without a problem. Recently, one of the user accounts stopped receiving external invites. The problem began not long after I set up a second account for the same user for their shared calendars (they requested this so all shared cals were not on their iOS devices). Although I used a separate email, it was an alias of the first so may have caused a conflict / problem (?). I got rid of the second account with no change to the first.
The account still receives invites from the other internal user accounts and the other services such as file sharing are unaffected. There are no other problems with the functionality of that user, in calendar or otherwise.
I have tried changing the email associated with that user account and setting up a new test user account (in Server). The email invite will still not come through.
I have changed it back to the way it was originally.
    Summary
One of 10 user accounts does not receive external invites
    Was working until recently
The account can send invites to external addresses
Same email address will not work even when associated with a different account
I have included a large section of the calendar error log from the part that references the email address (in red) attached to the user account in question. Apologies, I am not familiar with deciphering this information. That is why I've come here.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks so much for your comment ~morgen.
Sorry, I should have mentioned, that it what my first thought so I tested by ensuring the email address associated with the user account (not hosted on the server but by Google Apps) is recieving all other mail.
    I have also tried:
    - Setting all accounts (calendar, email and contact card with associated email address) in another local user on a defferent Mac. So it's not a local user or Mail app issue.
    - Sending invites from different Calendar apps and email accounts - iCloud, Gmail (both using Apple Calendar and the web interface).
That's why I came back around to thinking it must be calendar server related. However is there is absolutly no conntact with the server with incoming email invites I must be looking in the wrong place (and the wrong forum - sorry!).
Does anyone have any ideas where I should be focusing my efforts?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Calendar Server - Unable to add users

When I try to add users to a node I get an error message like:
    Working please wait...
unidsattach failed, see /users/unison/log/unidsattach.log, Error Code =
    0x13205
Add user [uid=ttesting,o=Airius.com] to node: failed
    Add user(s) to node completed.
    <P>
This means that the Calendar Server is unable to communicate
properly with the Directory Server. There are some Calendar-specific
entries and an ACI that are added to the Directory Server when a node is
created. These are critical to the proper functioning of the Calendar
Server. This error may mean that they are missing.
    <P>
You can also check the access log file of the Directory server to see what
the problem may be. If you see entries like:
    [27/Jan/1999:07:39:47 -0500] conn=1 op=2 SRCH base="o=Airius.com" scope=2 filter="(nsc
    alxitemid=15000:00001)"
    [27/Jan/1999:07:39:47 -0500] conn=1 op=2 RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=0
This indicates that 0 entries were returned for the search on the SYSOP
    Calendar user.
    <P>
If you have recently imported data into your Directory Server, it is likely
that these entries no longer exist. An import to a Directory Server does
not append data; it replaces the current directory with the data in the
LDIF file being loaded. You will need to recreate this Calendar information.
Export your directory to an LDIF file and review the output to see if these
    entries exist.
    <P>
Here is a boilerplate that may be useful if you don't have a backup copy
of the original LDIF. Try replacing the baseDN (o=Airius.com) and the node
id (15000) to match your Calendar configuration. The password is "password".
The following is for illustration purposes and may not fix all problems:
    aci: (target ="ldap:///o=Airius.com")(targetattr = "*")(version 3.0
    ; acl "Untitled"; allow (write, add , delete ) groupdn = "ldap:///cn=Cal-A
    dministrators-15000, o=Airius.com" ;)

    Jim,
I do not see this problem in the latest source line.
Probably I'm running a WLS server that is slightly newer than the beta,
    so maybe
some things might have been fixed.

  • Calendar Server Email Invitations

I have Mavericks server set up solely for the calendar. My mail is hosted externally. I set up an [email protected] account on my external mail server specifically for the this calendar server to use. In the server app, I enabled "Enable invitations by email" in the Calendar service and entered the info for my external server.
When I create an event and invite my internal users, everything works great. If I invite an external user, they never receive an email. I've tried with external mac.com and gmail.com addresses.
The calendar error log on the server is showing the following. The firewall is off. Any ideas for further troubleshooting this issue?

I went back and disabled SSL for the external email settings for the Calendar service, and it started sending mail. Not sure why that was an issue.

Error:service not available" also Do you get exactly what you say above, or have you substituted in the real server name for "Server:servername:" above?
I would check through the outlook connector deployment configuration to verify that you have inserted valid information into all of the host & port fields - perhaps check the .ini file that is created to see if it has "Server" and "servername" listed.
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
Error:service not available"You are able to log into UWC via the web-interface and access your calendar/pab and edit/modify/delete calendar & addressbook entries right? The services are all up?
asking to login to calendar server and address book
server.Clicking "OK" allows install. The outlook connector deployment software gives you the option to increase the logging level, try that and see what the logs say - what was it trying to connect to/check which failed.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the
meeting requests. It gives the error "login to
calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of
the error. The username and passwd entered is
correct.I suspect this is more of an underlying configuration issue that needs to be sorted out, once that happens you shouldn't have to keep logging in.
    Regards,
    Shane.

    Hi Venigalla,
You can implement a federated portal network (FPN) using the SAP NetWeaver platform to share content between portals.
A federated portal network allows organizations with distributed portal installations, both SAP and non-SAP, to provide a single portal access point per user to portal information, services and applications distributed on portals in the network.
WSRP-based application sharing (FPN Mode used for for integrating content between SAP and Non SAP portals) :-
-->     Content administrators on a SAP NetWeaver consumer portal can integrate WSRP portlets (i.e. iViews) from remote non-SAP portals into SAP NetWeaver Portal.
-->      SAP NetWeaver developers can create WSRP compliant iViews that can be consumed in non-SAP consumer portals.

  • Invitations not being sent out on Calendar Server 6.3

We would be grateful for any help on this. We can give further details if needed, please just let us know.
    Thanks very much.
    Issue:
To our customers the calendars server appears to be fully operational and without error. However, when a customer creates a new event and invites other people to attend, no invites are sent out. The event creator, however, believes all is in order as no error messages appear and the list of invitees appears on the event. This was working recently. We have looked for things which have changed (e.g. disk space, size of files, corruption, recent patching, licenses expiring, etc) but have not yet found anything that has changed.
    Some details of our system:

    What we've done:
We have run db_verify and csdb -v check on the databases. ics50deletelog.db did have corruption, so we fixed that by using db_dump and db_load to export then import the databases.
We also purged the ics50deletelog.db database using cspurge afterwards when the dump and load didn't seem to have had an effect.
We tried putting the log level up in the /opt/SUNWics5/cal/config/ics.conf , but didn't get any more details when restarting the service (through /etc/init.d/sunwics5 restart)
Before we did the db_dump, db_load and purge:

Sounds like we talking about 'Event Invitations Notifications'. These are the notifications that gets sent when some one invite you to an event. Whether you receive the notification or not depends on your preference that is stored in ldap. This can be set using the Convergence by navigating through Options-> Calendar -> Notifcations (Check "Notify me via email of new invitations or invitation changes"). The actual ldap attributes that gets stored in user's entry is below.
    icsExtendedUserPrefs: ceNotifyEnable=1
    icsExtendedUserPrefs: ceNotifyEmail=[email protected]
In the following cases, the user (attendee) will not get notifications even if the above preference is set.
a> Creating an event with attendees in the past. CS6, by default, suppresses notifications for past events. You can enable notifications for past events by setting the config "ine.pastnotification.enable" to "yes" in ics.conf
b> If the client creating the event requests server not to send notifications. (smtpNotify wcap param for storeevents.wcap). Outlook Connector uses this wcap param, so you won't get server notifications for the events invited using Outlook Connector. Outlook Connector sends it's own notifications directly.
I think, you are looking for these kind of notifications. The process responsible for sending these notifications is "csadmind" on the Frontend. So, you need to check admin.log on the Frontend to see if it is sending notifications or not.

  • Java accessible through Python COM? Alternative to packager?

Is Java Functionality accessible through Python?
For some of you who have lost all other options and do not care about GUI looking like Java, I almost went down this path.
Python works excellent with Java and .NET actually. I'm not sure about latency, but Python makes excellent glue between the two worlds.
I think through ActiveState and Mark Hammond's book (see Oreilly Python programming on Win32) you can download and install for free a COM based version of Python which can be used in other MS Languages including .NET.
If that doesn't work Python's interpreter and library source code is out there for you to adapt easily since it is written in C programming language.
Getting Java to talk to Python through JNI, Jython, SWIG, or other similar open source items is not difficult.
On top of that you can get access to MFC classes through Python and create GUI's that you wouldn't even know had been made from Python.
Data in variables can move from java to Python to C, VB, .NET, C++ etc.
Python is also a .NET friendly/compatible language. So if you ever find that Sun's packager is not working or you are stuck with a specific version, may I suggest you take a look at this option in finer detail.
I wouldn't mind discussing this in further detail here. Any questions or clarifications I can post too.
This is an easy and often overlooked solution to people's problems.

Look into a package called JAWIN, don't remember the URL, its open source and serves as a bridge between Java and Com objects.
Seems to work, we are using it in production.

    Hi,
I assume you mean iplanet calendar server 5.1.1 to the latest calendar server (6.3). If so, I suggest you start by reading through the calendar server admin guide which goes through the steps involved and tools to use to migrate from 5.1.1 onto calendar server 6.3.

  • Messaging Server and Calendar Server Mount points for SAN

    Hi! Jay,
We are planning to configure "JES 05Q4" Messaging and Calendar Servers on 2 v490 Servers running Solaris 9.0, Sun Cluster, Sun Volume Manager and UFS. The Servers will be connected to the SAN (EMC Symmetrix) for storage.
    I have the following questions:
    1. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Messaging Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
    - /opt/SUNWmsgsr
    - /var/opt/SUNWmsgsr
    - Sun Cluster (Global Devices)
Are there any other mount points that needs to be on SAN for Messaging to be configured on Sun Cluster?
    2. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Calendar Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
    - /opt/SUNWics5
    - /var/opt/SUNWics5
    - /etc/opt/SUNWics5
    3. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Web Server (v 6.0) for Delegated Admin 1.2?
    - /opt/ES60 (Planned location for Web Server)
Delegated Admin will be installed under /opt/ES60/ida12
Directory server will be on its own cluster. Are there any other storage needs to be considered?
Also, Is there a good document that walks through step-by-step on how to install Messaging, Calendar and Web Server on 2 node Sun Cluster.
The installation document doesn't do a good job or atleast I am seeing a lot of gaps.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    There are basically two choices..
    a) Have local binaries in cluster nodes (e.g 2 nodes) ... which means there will be two sets of binaries, one on each node in your case.
Then when you configure the software ..you will have to point the data directory to a cluster filesystem which may not be neccasarily global. But this filsystem should be mountable on both nodes.
The advantage of this method is that ... during patching and similar system maintenance activities....the downtime is minimum...
The disadvantage is that you have to maintain two sets of binaries ..i.e patch twice.
The suggested filesystems can be e.g.
    /opt for local binaries
/SJE/SUNWmsgr for data (used during configure option)
This will mean installing the binaries twice...
    b) Having a single copy of binaries on clustered filesystem....
This was the norm in iMS5.2 era ...and Sun would recommend this...though I have seen type a) also for iMs 5.2
This means there should no configuration files in local fs. Everything related to iPlanet on clustered filesystem.
I have not come accross type b) post SUNONE i.e 6.x .....it seems 6.x has to keep some files on the local filesystem anyway..so b) is either not possible or needs some special configuration
so may be you should try a) ...
    The Sequence would be ..
After the cluster framework is ready:
    1) Insall the binaries on both side
2 ) Install agent on one side
    3) switch the filesytem resource on any node
    4) Configure the software with the clustered FS
    5) Switch the filesystem resource on the other node and useconfig of first node.
    Cheers--
