IS COMPUTER FIX, INC A 3rd party Independent Tech Support Provider FOR APPLE? THEY CHARGED AS 339.00 DOLLARS TO REMOTELY REPAIR OUR MACBOOK

If you paid by credit card, contact the bank handling this payment
and ask that it be stopped since the provider did not actually do
anything to the computer and you are suspicious of their actions.
If the billing was added to a phone account, contact the vendor of
that service to dispute the charges against you; and cite concerns
of security, identify theft, privacy and of being scammed.
You may have to fill out forms, and see if the credit card bank will
refund or not; usually they mail them to your billing address, after
you call the bank customer service. Some are better at than others.
This could take some months to resolve, if you paid that way.
They may also have installed (or had you remove security) while
inside your Mac and its system software, remotely. If they were
able to 'scan' your Mac remotely, they may have harvested any
personal or financial information, including passwords saved to
online accounts that may have been in browsers or keychain.
On another track, complete repaired Macs of an older vintage
are not very expensive; even ones from companies who repair
them or those who have stock of repaired units...
While checking for a friend, online I found a few portables that
had been repaired and for sale by a company whose business
is to repair almost all portable Apple computers, in-house.
You can buy an early model guaranteed MacBook from reputable
repair companies with limited warranty for under $400. and that
includes a bill-of-health with an option to buy a longer warranty
for a little bit more. Or just mail in your computer in a flat-rate
postal carton with padding, to one of the well-reputed repairers
directly. They perform a physical/software hands-on diagnostic
& repair service, tell you before they fix anything what it will cost,
what the price variables are when they do hands-on testing; as
that is a real repair. An example: wegenermedia.com online.
The Apple support site has links to the better known AASP
authorized Apple service providers, and you could look up
the ones nearest your City & Country in the Locate section.
Blue links below require additional info once in their Site to
access the Authorized Apple Service Providers who have
an actual physical presence, where they offer services..
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Visit an Apple Retail Store
Apple - Find Locations - Country Selector:
https://locate.apple.com/country
Contact Apple Support - Apple Support:
http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Some independent providers may be in a situation to do more or
even less, than an Authorized service provider. Some may just
repair computers -- and not officially be affiliated with Apple...
Best to do the necessary research before committing to repair.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Disk Doctor Fails, S.M.A.R.T , anyway to fix with a 3rd party utility?

On my server, I get a Disk Doctor Fails, S.M.A.R.T , anyway to fix with a 3rd party utility?
    Thanks

If you're looking for help testing the Disk Doctor diagnostic tool, then you'll need to work with those folks and with the particular details of the SMART data being returned from the disk you're working with; the former and contents of the SMART data can vary by vendor.
But given you're using a disk diagnostic and posting here, I'll assume that you're having I/O problems, and the "fix" is to replace the drive.
If you're working with a dual-disk Mac Mini Server with software RAID enabled, the data can be recovered from the mirror.
If you don't have a current backup and don't have mirroring enabled and need some data off the disk that's reporting SMART errors, then you may end up working with a disk data recovery package, or a data recovery firm.  (I wouldn't spend much time attempting this, too, as performing disk verifications and related activities on a questionable or failing disk can reduce the chances of recovering the remaining disk data.)

  • 3rd party iTunes "Cleaner" in prep for iTunes Match

Just was wondering, since they seem to be capitalizing on it. Is anyone using one of the 3rd party library "cleaners" in preparation for the release of iTunes Match? Ya know, like TuneUp from TuneUp Media? It does make sense to me to have your titles and tags in order before you attempt to "match" your stuff. But, will it actually help or possibly cause problems.
Not to mention ... is it worth spending my very hard earned $$.
    Thanks all ...

The latest beta has been a great improvement, though it still is a bit glitchy.  Ive been spending the past 2 days organizing my library which i think helps, Match doesnt upload everything, and gets confused with recorder/live tracks.  I figured it must be similar to Shazam or Soundhound for tagging, but my experience has been less than perfect.  Still its pretty cool, but wish it had a bit better finding system in place.

  • I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

  • I have an iphone 4s that has been hacked.  Apple support has suggested that a 3rd party software has been downloaded replacing apple software which enables the hacker to screen share.  I need all the info about how it was done, and how to fix the problem.

I have an iphone 4s that may have been hacked.  Apple support has suggested that a 3rd party software may have been downloaded allowing screen share.  I need all the info I can get as to how this could have been done and how to fix the problem.

The only way the iPhone could have been hacked in such a manner, at least by any method currently confirmed, is if the iPhone was jailbroken. Was yours?

  • 3rd party apps from someone other then Apple

Does anyone now if you can get 3rd party apps without jail braking and without using Apples application store. I found a website that offers apps that I really want and was very disappointed to see none of the in the Apps store and dont know why nobody made them or offered them there. For $24.99 I can get all these apps that I was really looking forward to seeing in the apps store but werent:
NES System : Nintendo with all the games
Customization : Were I can custom every aspect of the I-Phone from I-cons to backgrounds
Screen shot : A app where I can take a picture of anything that my I-Phone is viewing at that time like from a game or a website ETC.
Video Recorder : I cant believe there was no video recorder in the apples web app release it is just something every phone should have
MMS : Picture messaging, I mean I dont know how many times I recieve a picture message and have to wait till I get home to go on my computer to go to a website just to see them. How long it takes also with normal broadband just to see a simple picture.........This is a must have app
Ringtone: Now all you have to do is select a song from your music library and put it to you contacts that easy no cutting or editing it down to size, no extra programs to make them with and no money to spend to make them
Also much more that I dont feel like describing like:
    Instant Messenger
    YouTube Downloader
    Books
    VNC
    <post edited by host>

Wow don't try to send a MMS to someones cell phone from the e-mail option this was a nightmare. I tried it to see if it would work and I received a message that the attempt didn't succeed so it kept trying and trying automatically. Then I get a phone call from the person I sent it to telling me it work but for me to quit sending it. I said I only sent it once then he said I have like 15 already so I check out my phone and it is really warm I looked at it and the battery went from fully full to a little less then half empty. So I am like what the heck so I go into my e-mail account and I see there is an e-mail demon meaning there was an attempt to send a e-mail but it didn't succeed. Normally when this happens it will make another try just to make sure it wasn't a service error well apparently my cell phone is continuing to retry to send the message so I have the phone trying my e-mail account trying while the person who the message is being sent to is receiving everyone........So I had to delete every message being sent on my e-mail account, I had to delete my E-mail account on my phone, and I had to shut it off for 30 minutes to see if this works it not I don't know what to do and my nightmare continues as well for the person who's phone keeps blowing up with the MMS message and I am wasting all of his text on his plan.......
    Thanks for the bad advice

  • No 3rd Party Plug-In Support in Prelude?

    Hi,
I am hoping to utilize this third-party plug-in linked below with Adobe Prelude to ingest Ikegami MXF media, perform pre-edits and transcode from camera media to permanent storage
    http://http://www.mainconcept.com/products/apps-plug-ins/plug-ins-for-adobe/t otalcode-cs-5-6.htmlhttp://
The plug-in works great in Premiere, but doesn't seem to be recognized by Prelude.  See this thread linked below.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4621685#4621685
The creaters of Total Code have informed me that Prelude does not support any 3rd party plug-in software.  Is this true?  If so, seems like a big oversight on Adobe's part given Prelude's place in the workflow for batch transcodes.  Any chance 3rd party support is expected to be built in via a CS6 update?
    Thanks,
    Lindsay

Thanks for your help Zac. I hope you can get ot the bottom of this for me.  I have corresponded with Total Code via email support and they kindly pointed the finger back at Adobe, but I have the feeling someone like your self may have a bit more sway.  Please keep me posted and thanks again.

  • Which 3rd party tools can support Open Hub Destination?

    Hi BI experts,
In the Open Hub Destination Type, I have a choice between Database Table, File or Third Party Tool.  From what I read from SAP documentation, the Third Party Tool which is supported is Ascential.  Apart from Ascential, what are other 3rd party Tools can Open Hub Destination link up to ?
Can Microsoft BI be linked up?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,

  • 3rd party software Instruments and pluggins for logic ???

I know logic has lots of software instruments and pluggins. What would be some good 3rd party instruments and pluggins to enhance the working and creative vibe? I know Spectrasonics has some good ones !!!!!!
    RD

    Rodney,
I think it really depends on what type of music you do.... But as you already mentioned, Spectrosonics stuff would certainly be at the top of my list.
RMX is practically a must have, as far as I'm concerned, and if you have Recycle, it IS a must have. Same with Atmosphere... I couldn't work without either one now.
Trilogy is really good to, but I wouldn't say it's a "must have". Still, it gets used a lot here.
I really like Arturia's synths as well, but customer service there has a lot to be desired. But the Vintage pack will certainly cover a lot of analog ground, and the Mini Moog is simply amazing.
There are a lot of sample libraries available in Native EXS format, but EXS reads Giga and Akai libraries as well, and if you got something like CD Xtract, you could translate even more formats.
Native Instruments makes some nice stuff as well.
As far as plug-ins, my absolute favorite are the UAD-1 plug-ins. But that requires the PCI card. Best money I ever spent though, hands down.
Here are a few other companies that make excellent plug-ins as well:

    http://www.sonalksis.com/

Believe me, that's just the tip of the iceberg...

  • 3rd Party Software in Support Section

I have been a frequent user of the 3rd party software offering of Apple's support section on their homepage but since the end of March there have been no further updates.
Does anyone know the reason? Has Apple closed down the publishing of 3rd party software via their own web presence?
    Thanks in advance,
    Christian

Thank you - the link leads to the right website but the software you'll find there has not been updated anymore after March 26th. Until then there have been releases of new software or software updates on a daily basis.

  • How can i download third party Softwares from Support tab in Apple site?

    Hi,
Previously i downloaded third party softwares for mac like Browsers, Anti- Virus softwares from Apple site but now i can download only Apple products (softwares) not third party softwares from download links so any one please let me know the status.
    Thanks in advance,
    Suresh Balakrishnan.

Apple no longer hosts a website for 3rd party software.  Instead it runs the Mac App Store, which offers a good range of software.
If you are very keen for the apps and other things that are not in the Mac App Store, a good app to download is "Bodega" - which provides another app store experience.
    Cheers,

  • Line in for itunes - Use computer audio in or 3rd party device

I wanted to know if there were any devices or a way to get something recognized by itunes that you could plug in something like a live band, that would be recognized as a device and then just select that device and it would play the audio from that thru itunes.
The reason for this is I use apple remote and airport expresses throughout my house to play music. It would be nice to be able to pipe in sound from another source and select it thru apple remote and play that audio thru the airportexpresses.
For example, someone brings over a record player and we hook it up, plug the RCA outputs into the device or line in on the computer. Then when itunes is opened the device/line in shows up as a source, and I guess to fit into apples schema, there would be one "song" on the device and it would just "play" that which would then send the incoming sound thru itunes and play over the speakers thru airportexpress.
Im suprised there is no device or option to play "line-in" or maybe there is a way to have the sound line in of the computer be used. Im sure there are lots of applications for this.  I suppose its possible apple doenst want this option but maybe someone out there has some kind of work around to accomplish my goal.
    Thanks
    james
Maybe it could be something line a live podcast or personal radio station that could be set up. I just thought of this looking at the catagories.

I eventully figured out how to do this. It cant be done in Itunes. You have to use airfoil not itunes to broadcast to the airtunes speakers. You can select any input or program to supply the sound.  If you want to control this from your iphone you need to install ReeMote and the ReeMote server on your mac to control airfoil Volume, you can not control the input selection from the reemote application.  This must be done on the Mac but it defaults to the previous selected input all the time on startup.
