Is construction of webi directly in production a best practice?

with bex-query and universes well consolidated and tested by a IT group,
can be considered the construction of webis directly in production without going through test and quality a Business Objects best practice?
is possible allow end-users (non IT personal) construct this webis?
Is there a document of good practices that SAP made this recommendation?.

If universe and all has been tested and signed-off; also end user are familiar with Webi report development and they want their ad-hoc reports instead of pre-developed report set; There will be no issue to allowing end user to develop the Webi reports in production. However there we have to take care of few points like
> need to check where report creation in production's public folder is feasible or not ? If yes how? is we need to create separate folders for individual user or what else ? and if No then what will be alternative like they can create in favorite folder?
> also we need to take control on number of report that users will create. however may be users will create so many reports with huge amount of data refreshes and etc and PROD will face performance issues etc etc...
like this there can be so many considerations needs to consider

  • Using WebI with SAP BW Data - Best practice for introducing BW Accelerator

    Hi,
    We have a significant investment in using BOE XI 3.1 SP2 integrated to SAP BW 7.0 EHP 1 SPS05.
    Now we intend to introduce BW Accelerator to improve the data fetch performance for the Adhoc (WebI) Analysis and the formatted reports built using WebI (Infoview).
    Data handling in question is approx. 2 Million+ records for each WebI report / adhoc analysis (20 to 30 columns).
    The solution could be BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> BO Universe --> WebI using Infoview
    Does it really help in introducing the BW Accelerator like the case described above ?
    Understand that the BW Accelerator could improve the performance of the underlying data and hence the BW Queries do work faster; but does it really improve (9x to 10x) performance for the MDX Queries generated by the BO Universe ( BOE XI 3.1 SP2 ) & WebI.
    What is the roadmap for the future wrt BW Accelerator and SAP BI BO Integration; if we intend to use WebI ?
    Or should be migrate to BO Explorer as the front end for Adhoc Analysis ?
    Is BO Explorer able to present 1 Million + records with 20-30 columns ?
    What is the best practice / better on performance; as an integrated product / solution ?

    Hi,
    We have a mix of Adhoc Analysis (60 %) and Formatted Reports (40%). We selected WebI as the tool for the purpose & used it for requirements which process approx. 2M records. We faced bottleneck issues on performance (we are on BO XI 3.1 SP2 & SAP BW 7.0 EHP1, SP05).
    We are further analyzing possibility to introduce BWA; if this can handle similar record processing & still preserve our investment on OLAP Universes, WebI, SAP Integration Kit & training users on WebI frontend.
    I see a lot of documentation suggesting "BO Explorer and BWA" - understand that BWA would improve the DB time and BO Explorer would help on the Front-end / OLAP time.
    Request your guidance on the road map & continuation of investment using BWA + WebI.

  • NetApp direct connect to UCS best practices

    Folks,
    I have installed many FlexPods this year but all involved either Nexus 5Ks or 7Ks with vPC. This protects the NFS LUN connections from both network outages or UCSM FIM outages. What is not clear to me is the best practice on connecting a NetApp directly to the UCS via applaince ports. Appliance ports seem like a great idea but they seem to ass issues to designs, both in VMware and the network.
    Does anyone have a configuration example on both the NetApp, UCS & Vmware side?
    I thought I would ask the group their opinion.

    Can you clarify your last posting a little bit.
    I never installed direct attached NetApp Storage to the UCS as well.
    One drawback i see is, if you have your NetApp System in active/standby mode connected to the FI, then for example all Servers connect through FI A to the NetApp System (NIC with VMKernel for all Server active on FI A). If the NetApp Link fails and switches over to standby link on Fabric B all the Traffic will go form Server to FI A to Uplink Switch to FI B and then to the NetApp System - because the Server is not aware that the NetApp System did a failover. So not all companies will have 10G Uplink Switches which will cause a bottleneck in that case.
    What other things do you see? I agree completely with you - all say is a wonderful feature on the slides - but i don't think it's that smart in practise?

  • Best Practices? Rendering to Flash for streaming web....

    I am always impressed with the flash based videos I see streaming on YouTube, FastCompany.Tv and other sites....
    My question... can you please either explain or point me in the right direction for streaming video best practices? Specifically, I am looking for info on best settings to produce the flash video (codecs and/or FCP render settings) and then what do people use as a flash player on their websites to show the end result.
    My goal is to create internal instructional videos for corporate training and then host them on my site (or streaming from Akamai). I would like people to be able to watch it in a flash player embedded on my site (and have it look good even if they click on a full screen button) or download to their iPod.

    Use the H.264 setting for iPod in Compressor. The h.264 file will play in a JW Flash Player and it's able to be downloaded for iPod viewing.

    I am trying to install Solaris10 U5 in SunFire 240 .
    I booted the box through CD-ROM and chosen NFS to install the OS.
    when it asks to specify the NFS Server details, after entering my NFS Server/share details, i am getting a warning message, and installation won't go.
    "No Solaris Web Start Ready products were found"
    Why i am getting this error ?
    What is the solution ?

  • Maintaining Table Entries directly in production

    Hi All,
    I have created a Z table. This table has been moved to production. Currently table entries are transported to production from development client. But this table regularly gets changed and so this needs to be maintained day to day basis. As per the policies transport request to production is moved only at specific times. Client in the production is not modifiable (Closed Client where no change authorization). To maintain the entries in the table every time client in the production should be opened.
    Can you please let me know is there any way we can maintain the entries without opening the client for changes and without moving the entries with the transport request? Is there any other way to maintain the entries?

    Dear,
    Create a maintainence view on that Z table. In that Maintainence table select Maint status->Delivery class-> select "Customizing" option. If any one creates new entry in Dev, system popsup for a TR. Those new entries will be saved in to TR. You can transport that TR across landscape.
    The above one general practice for customization.
    If you dont want that, create a table maintainence dialog  on that z table and hence create a tcode with SM30 from SE93 transaction code.
    Go to SE93-> select transaction with parameter
                          Enter transaction SM30
                          check  Skip initial screen
                          In default values maintain below:
                      VIEWNAME     Z table name
                      UPDATE     x
    Using that tcode you can maintain values directly in production

    I tried according to the instructions of oracle ( http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/pr_studio/frameset.htm?data_connection.html ). See comments:
    To create an Essbase data source connection:
    1. OK
    Select Connection on the main SQR Production Reporting Studio screen.
    The Create Data Connection wizard is displayed.
    2. OK
    On the first page, enter a name to identify the data connection.
    For example, you could enter Essbase to identify a connection to an Essbase data source.
    3. OK
    On the second page, select DDO to identify the data source provider.
    4. NOT OK. The messages shown: "Unable to start the JVM. Ensure that the JRE section of the SQR.INI file contains the correct directory. (4)"
    "Unable to erad DDo Registry.Properties file. Check location and accessibility, an that the sqr.ini DDO pathvariable settings are correct (DDO.3)."
    On the third page, select an Essbase data source.
    The wizard displays the available registries and data sources.
    Seems some setting problems. We would check that. Any suggestions to that error??

    Could some of you enlighten me as to why graphics upload function is a transportable activity?  I would imagine that it would be fairly straight forward to upload a graphic for use within a standard text directly in production.  Any downsides of following this approach?

    The requirement is to allow users to upload graphics to standard texts that will then be used in plant maintenance work orders (POs were just an example).  There may be a large number of those graphics, hence I would not be able to go through the transport procedure every time a user wants to upload a graphic.
    SE78 would be a possibility but only if this uploading process could be done directly in production, however this doesn't seem to be a good idea..
    Does that make sense?

    storage bins are master data and not customizing, hence they are created in production system directly.
    if you create them in development system, then you do not get any transport request.
    (but it is possible to create a transport request manually and add the LAGP table entries to it)
    but usually bins do not have individual names, a warehouse has a certain structure, and bins get identified by coordinates.
    you can customize a schema for the naming and generate the bins.
    this schema can be transported.
    And then you just execute LS05 to generate the bins

    if i were to access the webconsole, i would have to vnc inside the db server itself through (another server on the same network that has a public ip) and access the webconsole locally.

    Above: using Brandon Grotesque (web use font) does not display the correct font.
    I'm using Typekit and have an internet connection. If I switch to a "desktop use" font, it shows up, so I'm guessing the "web use" only fonts won't show in Reflow. A little frustrating when you're trying to get an accurate preview/determine best font styling because of the back-and-forth workflow.
    Above: using Source Sans Pro (desktop use font) does display the correct font.
