Is FAN ONS Publisher working?

I have a single-instance (non-RAC) primary/physical standby configuration (V10.2.0.4). SID names: dbddg1t and dbddg2t
I am following the MAA whitepaper: Client Failover Best Practices...etc..
to setup the FAN ONS Publisher program to notify my JDBC-Thin client of the FAN event. The JDBC Thin client automatic reconnect is not working... so I'm making sure that the FAN ONS on the database side is working while my developer debugs the client side.
Here's my cfo.sh script:
#!/bin/ksh
export CFO_DEBUG=TRUE
export ORACLE_SID=dbddg1t
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/lib
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/cfo r
And the Trigger that calls it:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ons_JDBCpublish
after DB_ROLE_CHANGE on
DATABASE
BEGIN
dbms_scheduler.create_job(
job_name => 'publish_events',
job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
job_action => '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/cfo.sh',
enabled => true
END;
The output of cfo_dbddg1t.log from the last "switchover" test from dbddg2t to dbddg1t:

Does the output from cfo log above look correct? Why does it get the error at the end "Run-mode execution allowed only after recent switchover"?
Is this a question for MyOracleSupport? Just curious if anyone has this working.
Thanks

  • The Power Supply Fan is still working, but does not appear to respond to increased loads, and its speed cannot be increased using SMCFanControl. Any suggestions?

Hi all - My mac pro 1,1 has an enigmatic problem. It's quad-core, 3Ghz, running OS X 10.7.5. The problem began some months back, when running HD video conferences, HD streaming videos and some other graphics-moderate (I won't say intense) uses, such as slide shows in Just Looking. My machine has an ATY, RadeonX1900 card and 2 monitors - both Apple displays, one being 30 inch 2560x1600, the other being 24 inch 1920x1200.
When I start those types of graphics-moderate apps, after about 5 minutes, something would crash (the monitors making a noise as it did) and the displays would both go black. The power did not appear to be fully cut off from the monitors. I think that the underlying applications, however, did not crash. So, I could still hear and speak to people during video conferences, and I could hear the sound tracks of videos.
Attempts to restart the computer and get the monitors back did not immediately work to undo the problem, if done straight away. The only way to correct the problem (so as to have the monitors work) was to wait for a few minutes and then restart.
After a lot of puzzled looking at console logs (and I confess that I am not an expert), I ran into a blank.
But, because of the timing of the crashes (after ~5minutes use) and restarts (after some minutes wait), I reasoned that the problem might be temperature related.
Once on that path of thought, I found this article:
    http://worldtv.com/blog/guides_tutorials/fixing_an_overheating_mac_pro_no_expens e_required.php
I installed both Temperature Monitor and SMCFanControl. And I experimented, and got interesting results:
Now to the puzzling bit: SMCFanControl shows that the speed of the Power Supply Fan doesn't vary much, even if I use SMCFanControl to ramp fan speeds right up. All of the other fans react to SMCFanControl, going up to and above 2500rpm when commanded. But the Power Supply Fan does not.  Having watched it for a few days now, the Power Supply Fan, according to AFCFanControl, never varies outside of a range from about 600-640 rpm, regardless of what I do with AFCFanControl.
Also (and not surprisingly), whenever the graphics-moderate apps run, when I ramp all the fan speeds up using SMCFanControl, Temperature Monitor shows that the all of the temperatures within the machine plummet, except in the power supply locations. Power Supply Location 2 is the worst affected. Because the Power Supply Fan does not react as the other fans do, the "crashes" still occur.
I could post some screen shots of the read outs of SMCFanControl and Temperature Monitor, although I think I have covered the key points in this post.
It seems that the Power Supply Fan is still working, but does not respond to increased loads.
Instinctively, I'm worried that if that's right, it might be a hard problem to fix. Any suggestions? Help! I would really appreciate them!
    Cheers
    P

Thanks for your response Grant. I had already read about, and I think excluded, dust in graphics card/fan/assembly as a cause. The entire inside of the computer, including the graphics card/fan/assembly, is as clean as a whistle. It looks clean. I've cleaned the dust out every now and then (including a few days ago). Also, my undersanding (derived from the article, linked in my first post) is that I might expect to see high temperatures in the Northbridge and memory module B if the graphics card was overheating. According to Temperature Monitor, however, locations do not increase in temperature when I run the relevant apps. Finally, the graphics card/assembly does not feel too hot to touch.
It is strange that SMCFanControl lists the Power Supply Fan as being software controllable, if that fan is not. Still, your comments are consistent with my observations, as the fan simply does not respond to software control.
There are two upsides: First, I've something of a work-around. I've worked out what temperature must be achieved in Power Supply Location 2 for a crash to occur, and I can watch that location in Temperature Monitor, terminating the process before that treshold is reached. Of course, that's not ideal. Second, ramping all the other fans up does significantly delay the onset of the problem, and makes recovery time much quicker.
Is there any donwside to peridically ramping up the other fans when running the relevant apps? Given that it causes all of the other locations to cool significantly, could this lessesn the life expecancy of the mahcine? (I don't want to run the fans up all the time - that's like sitting next to a jet ready for take off!)
Also, a correction to my first post: Yesterday, with all the other fans running on full and running an HD streaming video, the Power Supply Fan did, eventually, slowly, come up to ~740rpm, which is much higher than the ~640rpm maximum I had previously seen, and this may have aided delaying the onset of the problem.
I'm not sure where this leaves me? The problem might now be able managed. Well, sort-of. But it's not eliminated.

  • Macbook pro fan making loud noises and going really fast. Now the fan doesn't work at all and my computer gets extremely hot almost instantly. Is there a way to fix it without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

I've had my Macbook pro for about 3 1/2 years now. It has worked great until recently. A few months ago I noticed that the fan would always run really fast when I was doing simple tasks. After a few weeks/months, the fan was still really fast but it also started to make these loud noises. Now, it only occasionally makes the loud noise if I move my computer after its been stationary for a while. The fan no longer works at all and my computer gets exceptionally hot almost instantly when I turn it on. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

  • Satellite L20-182: fan doesn't work properly - one minute intervals

When I turn on the computer about twenty minutes is quiet. Than fan starts like a hurricane, slows down and stops. It lasts few seconds. The fan works in this way regularly with one minute intervals.
Is there any possibility to switch the fan on continuous work in slow motion?

    Hi.
I think that your notebook works fine. I have L20-101 which has Pentium M processor and it does the same. Usually after some period when it turns the fan on and off the fan starts to work at one slow speed. If you really want to have quieter machine and you really want that you can change settings in Bios (Thermal mode control - silent or perfomance). In performance mode processor runs at maximum possible speeds when it needs so fan behaves like yours. In silent mode, fan turns only when it really needs and for very short time. I got used to use silent mode when I do something else in the moment than sitting before my computer and I need my laptop as great calculator (MS-Excel, Rm-Win, MS - Word or 2D drawing in AutoCAD). If you need your computer for aplications that doesn't need very fast machine you can use silent mode. If you really need all power then you can switch to performance mode before booting.
I need performance mode only for watching Divx movies or converting files to PDF format (it is too slow at silent mode to convert 100 pages of text and drawings to PDF for me)

  • Fan doesn't work

I have a ENVY 17-j161ea and suddenly one of the fans doesn't seem to work anymore. When I play a game, the laptop reboots and I get a nice screen before boot that it is dangerous to continue because one of the fans isn't working.
I am currently monitoring the temp and the CPU is runing at +/- 65 celcius with no load. I don't dare put any load on it...
The laptop is 11 months so just within warrenty however I would like to know what the odds are that HP will fix my laptop...
I removed the recovery partition and added an additional SSD where I installed win 8.0 on. The laptop is officially not supported for 8, only 8.1.
I had to to use my own OS because they didnt support installing the original OS on my own SSD...
I also "abused" the laptop when it came to usage. I rendered a lot on it. Some days it was rendering for 8 hours at 100% CPU. In addition to this I also am a chess player so the laptop is calculating some moves which can take a few hours and also requires 100% CPU.
I am worried that because of my SSD, other OS, removes recovery partition and over usage HP will simply say it was my fault and it's not a hardware fault and those fans are not designed for such a purpose.

    Hi @Passero,
Thank you for your inquiry, I will do my best to help!
I see that you are getting a fan error after you have been playing a game for awhile.  Here is a link to System Fan (90b) error message on startup that will guide you through trying to resolve this difficulty.
I understand that you have made some changes to your notebook.  If you were to remove the drive that you installed and just have the original drive in the notebook with the original OS, I think you would still be entitled to warranty.   Regardless it is worth a phone call.  Worse case scenario would be that they say no. I do know they would ask you to have only the original drive installed with the original OS.

  • Fan is not working well of a pavilion g6

when starting up my laptop, it reports that my fan is not working well and when it remains on for about 10minutes it starts to be hot at the position where the fan is located. the problem just started.

    Hello
could you sense the fan is running by hearing and hot air blow out from air vent?
    1) if fan is running and running faster when hot, it means fan is working. please check if anything block the air vent or air intake. only Air can flow freely, it can cooling down the CPU.
    2) If Fan is running and air vent is not block and unit is been used long time, maybe the dust. if you have skill, please clean dust, it need remove some cover to disclose fan/heatsink.
    3) update BIOS to latest. of course Fan need to replaced if it is not run, but the running Fan usually don't need to be replaced.

  • HP Elitebook 8470p - from battery the fan is not working

    Hello Everybody elitebook Expert!
My laptop config in short: i5-3320m 2.60GHz with integrated graphics Intel HD4000, 4GB Ram.
I don't like the elitebook 8470p cooling system and i can't see the normal reason of the machanism.
So, there is no problem when the laptop is on AC power, the fan is on and works well and this is ok.
But, i have problem when the laptop is on Battery because when the laptop is in idle mode the fan is not working but stay.
Only  starts then just when it attains the 55 degrees.  This is not good, moreover it is bad for me, i dont like it because it is warm.
I want the ventilator to work so when the machine is on AC power everytime on Battery too.
In the BIOS there is no option for that and i can't see why...
Plase help me! I need a program what can turn on the fan when the laptop is on battery or a tweaker or something else i don't know what but i need something.
Aida64 says: motherboard name is: HP 179B
                              BIOS type is: Compaq EFI
                              BIOS version: 68ICF Ver.F.32            Date: 2012/05/12
(I know that there is a newer BIOS but i don't think so that there is an option in the new that can handle the fan on battery mode).
    (Sorry for my English please).
    Ákos

    Thanks for the question Akos,
I understand that CPU FAN does not work on battery mode in windows mode however it works in BIOS mode.
firstly, as you know BIOS has control over CPU fan and CPU thermal table - however OS has better thermal managements. once PC is up, BIOS information and thermal control is handles by OS. to trigger a change it has to be still routed through firmware only however instructions are based on the BIOS thermal table and windows power management.
we know the thermal management of windows is better than BIOS and best to provide you best battery performance. so in BIOS CPU fan may be not mostly spinning all the time but in windows its more effective.
one example for the same is, when you update BIOS on your PC or we-write a BIOS - CPU FAn will be running at full RPM during the process because windows does not control the CPU fan at that time due to update/change process.
its completely normal that you see most of the time CPU FAN is off or spins for a very minimal time. if its always off that means there is something wrong, however if its seen off on battery in windows - its ok. i do not think there is anything wrong here.
if you want to have the FAN run always, that means you need to run your PC at a poor/bad thermal table. which i do not think possible with windows 8 platform because its largely looks like a mobile focused(better battery run time) platform.
you may try installing any of the older (prefer non-windows OS) to check. however its not recommended. because it may result in a damage to hardware too (if a non-supported OS used).
Hope this helps... Good Luck !!!!!

  • Help on rollOver and publishing work

    hi
    it's hwa-jun again.
This topic needs help on rollOver problem and about
    publishing work.
Everytime I check mouse interaction with certain sprite using
rollOver, director checks by the sprite's bounding box. How
    do I make it checks
by pixels, to make the sprite react when my mouse is over
the sprite's pixel, not around it's bounding box?
I've done a simple game, now I want to publish it into
a stand alone application with protected casts. It didn't
turn out good the first time I tried. I'm gonna read more help and
retry. Is there any technical issue related to this problem? Oh
yah, I also had a problem with the
fullscreen setting. The application is not "fully
fullscreen" and I can see my project's title bar. How am I supposed
    to do with that?
Please anyone post a helping reply. Thank you.

  • Add-ons not working properly

Recently (last 4-5 days my add-ons stopped working properly. Example: Tab Mix Plus shows as installed, but when any options I select do not affect tab behavior; Lastpass icon not showing up in the Add-on bar as it did previously; Newsfox icon doesn't appear in Toolbar as it did. Using Firefox 26.0 on Windows 8 on Dell Laptop.

I've been having problems with my add-ons. Ad Block Plus will often hang Firefox and drive the CPU to 100%. I've reset Firefox and installed ABP, but still have the problem. My other extension have also stopped working. Any new extensions will appear to added on to Firefox, but they also don't work. I've followed all on-line trouble shooting options.

  • Brocade DCX Fiberchannel trunk via Cisco ONS not working

We have a SAN environment over 2 locations. On each location they placed a Brocade DCX 8510 SAN switch. The Inter site link is provided via CISCO ONS.
We use at both sites a MXP_MR_10DME card with two interfaces. We created two circuits and configured the ports at FC4G.
So when we connect the brocade switches directly to the ONS it works perfect.  We then  have 2 4GB fiberchannel connections.
However we would like to trunk these connection to a 2x 4GB channel.
On the Brocade switches we configured both interfaces connected to the ONS as Trunk.
Both switches see each other but no traffic will run over this trunk. When we disable one port of the Brocade in this trunk then traffic starts to flow.
    Questions:
Is it possible to create a trunk between the brocades via ONS?. ( we know that it will work with a direct fiber connection).
I know you can do trunking by using other cards but is this possible with the 1-DMEX-C cards.
So is the ONS aware of a trunk. I suppose that the ONS should be transparent.
If anybody has done did before, do we need to configure something specific on the ONS or Brocade switches..?
    THX.

    Nevermind...
I have been given the wrong SFP modules.

  • Fan - Mine not working (do I need to switch it on)

the perfromance on my MacBook Pro is VERY slow - and I now realize it could be because the Fan is not working - Does it need ot be activated or something?
This is so frustrating, We have 8 macs in our studio, 6 of which have had to be replaced due to something faulty on them......I hope this isn't mac replacement 7!!

Fans turn on automatically when the CPU gets to a specific temp. they don't need to be turned on manually.
When you say your MBP is running slow:
    a) generally or all programs?
    b) how much RAM do you have? And is it OEM or 3rd party?
    c) is it networked?
Your problem could be a bad fan, bad temp sensor, or could be you are running programs via Rosetta. Give us more info and we could probably isolate the issue better.

Tell Apple you've run their hardware tests and got that error message (best not talk about results from non-Apple software). It's not a big repair job (each of mine was replaced and it took just over an hour per) but it depends if they have parts in stock, how many in the queue before you etc. You'll probably have to leave it there for 3-5 days at a guess ...
