Is it a known but that the outgoing SMTP user ID is always set to the same as the incoming even when set differently?

I'm trying to figure out where to report this: I keep noticing that when I setup a new account and I set the incoming and outgoing user names differently, the outgoing one never is honoured; it always sets it the same as the incoming one and I have to manually go into the outgoing settings to change it. Just wondered if this was known, thought it might be worth reporting.

I can not see this one listed, but it looks to me like the behavior may well have been introduced with [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=883670 Bug 8396652]

I've seen two or three posts here about something like that, but this is a technical support forum, you're supposed to find people with problems here! You're not going to see any posts from the hundreds of thousands of MacBook owners who don't have that problem. Even if only 10% of those 300,000 MacBook owners posted here, there'd be 30,000 people with that problem posting here. There's nothing like that going on now.

That's just the name/description you can give the server that appears in Mail's preferences for that account.
After selecting Edit you can put in whatever you want in the description.

Why do you need to know the name? If you add an iCloud account in Mail all you really need is your Apple ID and password. The servers are automatically assigned.

Use Connection Doctor to see what is causing it to be offline, like a incorrect password or a different setting for authentication. Check out the article below to get a start on troubleshooting your issues with sending mail.

Settings > iTunes and App store > Apple ID = Sign Out... Then Sign In using the preferred Apple ID.
It should be Noted that anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

No you don't always need to enter credit card details, it just depends upon how you create the account - unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating a new account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534

In similar cases, my solution is to "select all" then "deselect" only the artwork I want to keep and "delete". If I'm curious I may "cut" then "paste" to see what shows up in the center of the screen. it is usually some stray point. or other element out direct sight.

When defining the Outgoing SMTP Server, why does specifying the "default" SMTP server not work, but only the first server specified?

I have several options for SMTP outgoing server. I set one to default and try to send. it fails and uses the first one in the list.
I restart Thunderbird and try to send. It uses the first one in the list.
I eliminate all SMTP servers from the list but the one I want, and it works.
What am I missing, this I have observed this problem on all of my systems for a long time?

what your missing is that account have an SMTP sever associated with them, which if your "in" an account over rides the "default"
Right click an account folder and select settings.
Click on the account name in the settings and on the right is a drop down list and the "default" smtp for that account.

Setting up a mail client and the outgoing SMTP set...

If you switch to BT and you already have email accounts set up in a mail client such as Mac Mail, you will not find any help from BT to set up correct outgoing SMTP mail server settings. Most other ISP's are usually very helpful with this but BT have a policy that is designed to make things very difficult to use anything but a BT email account. They claim that it is "To protect our email server from abuse by spammers". However, the solution to this has potentially quite the opposite effect as you will not be able to enable SSL for it to work!!
OK so the first thing to do is create a new 'MY BT' account and then go to 'email' and create a new BT email account. Keep a note of address and password as you will need this later.
Go back to the main BT home page and click on mail. You should land on a page that has the new 'BT Mail Account' in the left column and above a purple tool bar with 'Settings at the end. Click on 'Settings'.
In the left column, underneath 'Mail' click on 'Accounts'
Click 'Add' and fill in the details of your 3rd party (Non BT) account. They encourage IMAP only but I used 'POP" with no problems as I have no intention of using the BT mail client.
In 'Mail settings' fill out the mail server details from your email provider or where your site is actually hosted. For example if you are using 000webhost.com then they will advise 'mx.000webhost.com' or may be 'mail.yourwebsitename'
The correct port to enter is the port listed in your web client. For me with Mac Mail then this is listed in preferences and if you check this then also double check that use SSL is NOT checked
Enter the email user name and password of your 3rd party account
Make sure in 'Security' that 'Requires SSL' is NOT checked
Then save the account
Click on the 'Email' link in the purple tool bar and there now under the 'BT Mail Account' should be your 3rd party account. Click on it and it should now load your email. If it doesn't then you will have to try again the steps above as there is no point in going any further if the BT client cannot access your account.
OK if it is working then go to your email client (Mac Mail in my case) and in preference set up your 3rd party account as follows.
Incoming mail server is as the info from your host ( like as in 'mx.000webhost.com' above). Enter user name and password for the 3rd party account.
Now set up an Outgoing mail server (SMPT). I just called it BT with the server name 'mail.btinternet.com'. In the advance section click use default ports. It actually uses 465 if you do not have a default option.
Do NOT enable SSL
Set Authentication to 'Password'
Then in user name enter the details of the NEW BT account you opened for user name and password.
And that's it. Well it works for me! I got no assistance whatsoever from BT in trying to solve this. I asked to cancel my new BT infinity service after only 5 days when it proved so difficult to get an email client like mac mail to work. I had 4 calls from them and even the 'Tech Experts' had no idea what I was talking to them about!

I thought the updates were free and if it so, how do I actually update iphoto?

DId you Accept the apps when you bought the Mac? In the App Store go to the Purchases List and press Accept there. Then you'll be able to update. If that's not available then you'll need to contact App Store support.

BDC upoad for FB01 always gives the same msg in output even when file is ok

I have created a BDC upload program to upload data through a csv file . Whenever i run the program with teh file name with the data from teh csv file I just get the same error message in the output be it any data when its corect data .
the message is as follows.

In this case the the file that I uploaded has the following information:

when I go and check in the FB01 transaction and put the posting key as 31 and drop down on the account number it gives me a list of vendor account numbers and maybe thats the reason for teh file saying 924831 does not exits in the chart of G/L accounts. I am not sure but thats what teh message showing up whenever I upload any file , when i go to posting key 40 it does have the account number.

Since I switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox, the Celeb Daily link I've always visted will no longer show the images / pictures. Cannot figure out why.

Celeb Daily is a celeb picture site that you can vote a rating of 12 different pics "daily". Since switching from Int. Exp. to Firefox they no longer come up, only texts & boxes. What gives? I am far from computer savvy. Don't go all technical on me if it's fixable. Thanx.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
