Is it advisable to turn off my iPod regularly to avoid it breaking down over time?

Hi everyone,
I keep my iPod on all the time, 24/7/365. I've had it for a good couple of years now and have only ever turned it off a handful of times. I'm afraid that it might be starting to malfunction due to being on all the time, so is it a good idea to turn it off sometimes? Is there such thing as giving it 'a break', as in does it even make a difference to its performance if you turn it off once in a while to 'recuperate'? If I should turn it off sometimes, how regularly would you suggest I do this?

Hey 0IXUmOXI0, If you handle your device with care, you should get some long usage time, (years). If your wondering about the battery life, Apple uses Li-ion batteries, there is no memory on these, but they do wear out. There are steps you need to do to maintain the battery if you are an infrequent user, (I know, that's an oxymoron). Apple has stated you should at least 400 charging cycles before the battery begins to wear out, fail to charge, (blew past that some time ago!-- still running strong). The battery is replaceable, but not by most uses. You can power down your device, but since the battery will continue to degrade whether it is in use or not, and there is no charge cycle memory, it really doesn't matter much. (You may gain a couple of days of useful time over the entry life time of the device by turning it off, so it really doesn't matter, if you think about it). Have had my iPod 5 since June 2013, no big issues, just the odd freeze up, occasional glitch, nothing that a reset or restore couldn't fix! (Thanks Apple community). Have seen some state their devices are 6 and 7 years old and still working. Have had other similar devices, (not Apple) and have gotten anything from 4 to 8 years of use before the battery or hardware fails. I would guess you should expect the same kind of use time, But (there's always a but), you have to take care if your device, whether it's an Apple or someone else's device.
