Is it possible to block an unwanted/unidentified number from calling/texting?

I'm receiving texts from a number that I don't recognize.  I did a reverse phone look up and it's a VoIP number, so I'm sure it's Spam.  How do I prevent and/or block this???

Log in to My Verizon and use the free blocking option that allows you to block up to 5 phone numbers. If it is spam though they may very well just switch up the phone number they use to contact you. You can also opt to subscribe to the Usage Controls feature that costs (I believe) $4.99/month. You can read about the feature and all that it does on the VZW website.

I have blocked some from calling/texting me.  Is it possible to make it so they don't know?  I don't want them to hear the message or receive a text stating that their number is blocked.

Punky45, we totally understand your need to be discreet about this. With the call and messaging block feature, you will be able to add 10 digit phone numbers from sending you text messages and calling your device. No reply message advising that their phone number will be sent. However, there will be an automated message that advises that this caller is unable to accept incoming calls. Sadly, as Call Bliss uses the built in Do Not Disturb feature, it requires that your screen be locked in order to function.
I'm hoping (and have submitted feedback) that Apple will beef up DND to work even when the screen isn't locked.

There are none.  If the find feature of your iPhone's iCloud account was not enabled, it is not findable at all.  And if it has run down the battery, been turned off, or otherwise has no network connection it is not findable either.  If someone has it and has restored it as new, then it is also not findable remotely.
In any of those cases, you have no options but to look for it yourself, report it to the police and your carrier.  If it was not secured with a passcode lock, you should change all your online passwords immediately.

  • Will Apple block IMEI or serial number from accessing Itune stolen Iphone?

I was attacked on the subway by 2 tugs who stole my Iphone 4, while I was using it. This was really scary.
I had a password on the phone (5 min). I had also installed Mobile Me thinking it could protect me. Sadly, I found out that for all the buzz this app is getting its useless. The first thing any thief will do is turn off the phone, remove the SIM and battery to make it untraceable before easily wiping it. There are tens of videos on Youtube showing how to break the phone password and reset it.Find my phone can only help absent minded people who misplace their phone with charge in their house or at the office.
My question is will Apple block stolen phone from accessing Itunes since every account has to be set up with this information?
Apple is making enough money already and can get goodwill from protecting its customers, according to my local police, from mounting and sometimes violent crime. Apple could easily make Iphones less attractive to thieves.
It would be an easy operation. They legitimate owner is known to Apple, all they could require is a police report number.
I hope this will be possible because I am seriously thinking about getting a Nexus or HTC which are starting to compete, this is added to the fact that I paid $700+ for this device and had to wait 3 months to get it.

    No.
"Apple is making enough money already and can get goodwill from protecting its customers, according to my local police, from mounting and sometimes violent crime. Apple could easily make Iphones less attractive to thieves."
Does Motorola or Lg or Samsung do this?
This would likely run afoul of privacy rights as you could sell your iphone, then get vindictive and report it stolen.
"It would be an easy operation. They legitimate owner is known to Apple, all they could require is a police report number."
They do not know if it was stolen, given away, sold, etc. This is a police issue, not an Apple issue. Would you expect this from Motorola or Samsung or LG?

The manufacturers of these other phones will not do this either.
Sorry. I hope the police find the criminals.
Sadly, I agree with every point you made......I am sorry for the OP's ordeal and hope he's OK.......Being mugged is a terrible thing. He's lucky to be alive.......

  • We have iphones, ipads and ipods attached to one itunes account. Is it possible to prevent the ipods and ipads from receiving texts sent to the iphone? Can we link them to "phantam" email?

We have one itunes store account for all of our apple devices. I am now separated and my kids take their ipods and ipads to my exs. How can I stop my ex from reading my texts? I turned off the home sharing, but they, kids or ex, just turn it on.
Do I have to have separate itune accounts for the other devices or can I create a separate email account and link those devices to that?

    Hi, RenegadeK.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This issue would be caused by all your devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.  I would recommend signing out of iMessage on your/her/his device if possible.  Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.  Once this is done, I would recommend that either you/her/him create a new Apple ID specifically for iMessage and FaceTime here.  Then you/her/him would need to sign in to iMessage and FaceTime with the new Apple ID.  You can still keep the same Apple ID for purchases.  You can also change the password which will essentially disable iMessage for his/her account.  You could also just turn iMessage off.

  • Blocking a certain phone number?

I am looking to block a certain phone number from calling and texting me, is there anyway that this can be done?

Call blocking or SMS blocking is a carrier feature. There is no setting on an iPhone to do this. You can call your carrier to see if they offer blocking(some do for an additional monthly fee), if they don't, create a silent ringtone & assign such to the number.

Is it possible to block a phone number from sending texts?

Only your carrier can do so, there is no setting on any iPhone to block calls/SMS's. Some carriers offer this service, some don't. So, contact yours to see if they do.

    Hi ChrisJ4203,
I see you didn't comment on editing the numbers in the keypad, I believe you have that problem too but you forgot to click "I have this question too".
By the way I've sent a couple feedback messages to Apple already and thanks for reminding me, I guess I'll have to be doing that more often.
    Enjoy your day
