Mel, Sure, although that is "copying," not "burning." It is easily done, as follows:
Insert the USB stick into your computer, and open it up so it looks like a folder. Highlight the songs you want in iTunes, and drag them into the folder.
If you normally run iTunes in full screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.

If yes or if you are not sure, look for Windows DVD Maker,
On my Vista Home Premium laptop whe I click on "All Pprograms", within the list of programs I see "Windows DVD Maker" listed as a program.
If you have this program then my suggestion is to use the PSE slide show editor to Output a file to your hard disk
(use the
-- the "Save to a File" instead of the "Burn to a Disc"
and
-- the "Movie File - .wmv"
and for slide size choose:
DVD-NTSC if in USA
or DVD-PAL if in Europe or other PAL TV country
Save the wmv file in a hard drive folder where it will be convenient for you to reference for later use in the Windows DVD Maker program.
Once this wmv file has been successfully created, you can play it back with Windows Media Player to verify that you like its contents.
Your next step will be to use the Windows DVD Maker program to write the formats of movie files required for the TV DVD player playback to the DVD disc. I recommend closing Photoshop Elements and then open Windows DVD Maker from the Windows Start menu list.
Windows DVD Maker is a "follow the instructions on the screen" program.
However, one point of confusion is how to add the PSE created slide show to DVD Maker program.
The answer is that you use that .wmv file (from the PSE slide show editor) -- it is now in a video format and is a "video". So you can follow the onscreen directions to add video to DVD Maker.
Note 1: I recommended closing PSE before starting the Windows DVD Maker in order to conserve your PC system resources. It is probably not absolutely necessary.
Note 2: You could also produce the DVD for TV playback by adding Adobe Premiere Elements to your computer. However just for the purpose of making the DVD from your slideshow I anticipate that using Windows DVD Maker will be simpler and faster.
Note 3: I recommend using a DVD-R disc. What brand of discs do you have?

Burning Playlist to MP3

I am clicking 'burn mp3 cd' button in playlist, but am getting error message 'None of the files can be burned to an MP3 cd - Only files that are in the mp3 format can be burned to an mp3 cd' ??? The files in the playlist are all coming from my I-Tunes library and are in the format that I-Tunes converts them to when uploading cds. Any ideas?

If you didn't change anything in the preferences, odds are that iTunes imported the songs as m4a files. Go into Preferences>Advanced>Importing and see how Import Using is set. If it's set to anything other than MP3 Encoder, you don't have mp3 files.

i want to burn a playlist to an mp3 disc. i have tried converting to mp3 and i get the converting message but when i try to burn the disc it says not able to burn as an mp3 disc.

If you have purchased music in the playlist, it will not burn as a MP3, you will have to remove it from the playlist.

As given, music purchases from the iTunes store are in AAC format. Amazon and others offer mp3s.
To convert your files to MP3, setup your import settings (Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings) for the target format & bitrate, select tracks, right-click and click Create MP3 version.
Note that unless converting from one lossless format to another you will lose some audio quality in any conversion. Whether that loss is noticeable or acceptable is for you to determine.
If you do decide to change formats, and don't want to keep the duplicate originals in the library, then you may find my ConvertFormat script useful.

Can't find button to burn CDs on iTunes 11.1.1

Migration Assistant problem? : New iMac's iTunes doesn't see the catalog or playlist of my old Mac's songs on an external drive

So I just migrated from a 10.7.5 iMac 27" from 2009 to 10.9.4 on a 2013 27" iMac with Fusion Drive.
I don't use Time Machine. There are no backups involved here.
Used Ethernet. Only took 20 hours... (BTW, it stayed on "less than 1 minute left" for like 12 hours but luckily I was away and just left it going in hopes it would work... and it did!)
Anyway, back on my OLD iMac, I kept all of my songs on an external drive because my internal drive was too small. So iTunes looked at that drive for the music it was playing. I turned that drive off, even disconnected it, during the migration process because I thought it was confusing it during the first attempt which took 10 hours and nothing happened.
So now it worked, finally. On my new iMac, running Mavericks, I now have two user accounts... the one that was set up when I started the computer the first time, and the new one that transferred over via Migration Assistant. No problem. I can live with that. The only thing is, I would still think the old XML files and library stuff would migrate over... but iTunes doesn't see it. When I open up iTunes, in *either* account, iTunes behaves as if it's brand new. Repeat: the old and new account on the new iMac, both, do not see an old iTunes library which IS on the old iMac. Only the music is on the external drive from what I understand.
I've done this before so I know it's possible. I remember upgrading a long time ago and got iTunes to see my old library... even though some of the music was no longer there. It just puts "!" marks wherever there is no link. I was hoping that that's what I would find when I launched iTunes, but no luck. Even connecting the old hard drive to the new Mac (via USB) doesn't make iTunes all of a sudden "see" the old library. That data doesn't seem to be there. It didn't transfer over. Did it not transfer over because the songs weren't on the internal volume? Should I have left my external hard drive on?
So.... now that I've spent almost 3 days total trying to get this to work, and everything is running... I don't want to have to start over in order to get iTunes to work. Is there a way I can just drag over some XML files or something from the old computer? I don't want to lose all of the ratings and personal notes and everything.
I should add also that I have like only four songs I've ever actually bought through iTunes. I'm still a bit old fashioned and buy CDs and rip them to Apple Lossless. So I hope it's not an authorization / reauthorization issue because I have like 1400 albums ripped.

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

Install on SDCard/USB stick, toggle read-only filesystem - possible?

This is something I thought about while installing Arch on an SD card earlier. You know these small switches on some SD cards that make them read-only, right?
Would it be possible to have a setup where Archlinux is installed on a rewritable storage device like an USB Stick or an SD card, where one mode of operation would be to use it like a regular, persisting Arch install (with writeable filesystem). The second mode would be to use it similar to a Live CD, not persisting any data on the storage device and using RAM instead (mounting the root filesystem as read-only).
Basically, you could boot into regular mode (perhaps by choosing a seperate entry in GRUB), change configurations, update packages, etc. Then you reboot into read-only mode and use it as a Live CD with any changes to the filesystem stored only in RAM. This could be combined with system encryption to provide a secure and portable Arch installation that can be kept up-to date and simply by rebooting, you have a protected, volatile environment similar to a Live CD.
Is something like that possible? Has it been done already?

Comment on the "why" for Flash Device....quiet operation, less power required, faster performance and reduced size.
Faster boot time is also possible with raid applied.
As previously stated, running all in ram doesn't provide any performance improvement if the system has at least 2GB of ram. Thus the use of swap is not required with that much ram.
This principle also applies to Flash Devices which have algortithms controlling the writes across the entire card capacity such that larger capacity increases lifetime expectancy.
Copy- on- write is also proposed for flash devices which reduces the process steps for writing to flash.
In my experience with running-in-ram with CTKArch "live" system, I found not much to endorse using that mode. A negative of good proportion is the copy-to-ram loading time , which cannot be avoided.
Basically, faster ram is the best approach for performance enhancement in all systems.
Thus, there are herein some reasons for using flash in an arch booting system whether "live" or conventional or raid based.
My raid0 bootable system was outlined in previous post and am using it now. It is not a USB connected bus arrangement which inherently limits performance.
I find Compact Flash in UDMA or true IDE mode to provide good performance speed of 90mb/s read and 25mb/s write to be a fine alternative to hard drives. In raid0 read speed is doubled. Good reason for flash devices but not in usb mode.

IPhoto can't find device to burn

I wanted to burn pictures to DVD to free up space, but I am getting a message saying that no device can be found. I checked the system profiler, and it shows the drive as working. I can even burn from different locations (Toast 7). How can I get iPhoto to recognize the DVD burner?

Since you're able to use the disk for other apps and the Finder it's just a iPhoto problem. First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and see if that helps.
You might also apply the newly released Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update along with the iLife Support 8.2 and Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 updaters followed by a repair of disk permissions.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

How to export playlist in mp3 format onto usb using MAC

I have seen suggestions but using PC itunes and there must be small differences since it does work for me. Two main problems 1) returning back to mp3. 2) exporting playlist to usb. Thanks for any help!

There is no way to do what you want in iTunes automatically. However, if the tracks are DRM-free you can change the import settings in iTunes, transcode the tracks (FYI, there may be a noticible loss in audio quality), then copy the tracks to a USB flashdrive.

How can reset my playlist? was there before now can only find all songs under songs. playlists still there but only 2/3 of total songs.

I have 6th gen ipod. Trying to reset the ipod or something so i can recreate my playlist as i dont want all my comp songs on my ipod. playlist screen shows some under 90s, some under classical, and some under recentl played, but none show all the songs on the ipod. i have to go to songs to be able to play the whole list at all. i have tried to change play list in itunes and resyncing but this hasnt changed my songs list or recreated a playlist. any ideas?

A smart playlist like "Recently Added" is based on the date that a track is added to your library. As far as why the Recently Added playlist starts with 13 particular songs, then proceeds with the rest of all your songs in alphabetic order, it is possible that either you (or iTunes) started adding the songs back with the 13 most recent songs you had previously added to your library before it was erased, and once those were added then things proceeded by artist in alphabetical order. Not sure, but there's really nothing you can do about that other than replace your .itl file with the original version if you still have it somewhere.

How do you remove a cd from the macbook air superdrive when it won't eject. all is get is the option to burn a cd when i click eject

Just bought a mini and a dvd superdrive. was uploading pictures and one cd won't eject when I click on the eject icon. It will display that I can burn one if I insert a cd, but won't eject the current cd. How do you override the pop up or manually eject the cd from the superdrive without taking it to a store or asking for a replacement?

You can also eject a disc by restarting your computer and holding down the primary mouse button while the computer is starting up until the disc is ejected.

Can't find program to burn DVDs

I used to burn and copy DVDs, XP OS. Now I cannot find the program to do that.

I am working on many projects and my bookmark folders suffice. I need to create new folders, but not "Smart Folders." After over 2 hours, I keep coming back to the same description of how to add new folders to existing ones. NOT what I want to do. This used to be easy, but the set up must have changed as I've been trying to do this all day with no success.
Also, somehow my gmail inbox appears twice in my bookmarks toolbar. Again, I am finding information that does not apply to me in help and former question files and links. How do I remove things from my bookmarks toolbar?

Open the Bookmarks Library, to do that in the Bookmarks menu select "Organize Bookmarks"
In the Bookmarks Library, in the left hand pane click on "Bookmarks Toolbar" to select it, now in the Organize menu select "New Folder".
If you have the capability to right-click, you can also right-click on the Bookmarks Toolbar and select New Folder.

Is it possible to keep the outline auto formatting from Pages when copying and pasting that outline to the Presenter Notes on Keynote?

I have been using my iPad for my notes, but I want to start using it as a remote for my macbook. When I copy and paste the notes into the Presenter Notes section of Keynote on the macbook, it unformatted. Any bullet point formatting that I do on my macbook is not showing on my iPad's Remote view Presenter Notes. Is there a way to create consistency here that does not involved formatting each one separately?
