Any ideas , please help?

It is possible to report off Stored Procedures in BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence XIR2. What you need to do is to configure your Stored Procedure as a data source. If you use parameter please make sure that the default database is set to the database that contains the stored procedure.
e.g. Click the correct DSN for the stored procedure. Click Configure.Click Next until the Change the default database to option appears.Change the default database to the database that contains the stored procedure.
I hope this helps,

• Error when calling a Oracle package with length 30 (ORA-01948)

Hi...,
When I call a Oracle package I get this error message.
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01948: identifier's name length (39) exceeds maximum (30)
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_PICKLER", line 18
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_PICKLER", line 58
ORA-06512: at line 1
There is not way we can change the package name. How do we fix it on the java side?
Regards,
Praveen

The statement 'ORA-01948' is coming from the database and not your java program. Therefore you cant fix it on the java side. There is some stored procedure, stored function, or other such code on the database that is too long. Use a database utility tool such as 'Toad' to examine the database and see if you can find what SYS.DBMS_PICKLER means.
Here is a definition of ORA-01948 I found on the internet:
ORA-01948: identifier's name length (string) exceeds maximum (string)
Cause: A name has been specified that is too long. For example, dbms_session.is_role_enabled() specifies a role name that is too long.
Action: Change the application or command to use a correct identifier.

• Is it possible to call a Oracle Trigger from a Java Application

Hi
Please let me know if is it possible to call a Trigger from a Java/J2EE Application .
Thanks

A trigger is NEVER explicitly called, from any environment.
It is implicitly called when you invoke the operation that it's a trigger for.
Whether you're using Java or anything else to invoke that operation makes no difference whatsoever.

• Is it possible to call BI Publisher Web Service through PL/SQL?

hi all,
i'm trying to find a way to run/schedule a report for my application. i'm using another platform for the client front-end form other than oracle but was wondering if i could possibly call the webservice using PL/SQL. PL/SQL meaning stored procedure in the database.
thanks

hi,
i'm trying to study on how to use the oracle bi publisher using another client application aside from oracle. the client application is custom and uses a .Net framework. unfortunately, i am not familiar with how .Net sends requests to oracle bi publisher so i was thinking that may be i can just create oracle pl/sql stored procedures that can send this requests over to bi publisher.
p.s. when you said concurrent manager, i'm not sure if you are referring to oracle apps concurrent manager but if you are, unfortunately i won't be using oracle apps with bi publisher.
thanks

• Is it possible to call module component's function through interface function

Hi,
I see this in the livedocs.
"In general, if you want to set properties on controls in the module by using external values, you should create variables that are bindable. You then set the values of those variables in the interface’s implemented methods. If you try to set properties of the module’s controls directly by using external values, the controls might not be instantiated by the time the module is loaded and the attempt to set the properties might fail."
I have an extended component in a module. I need to call that component's funcion from the interface function. i.e My main appication call the interface funcion, and that interface funcion has to call the component's funcion. Is it possible. I get error that the component is null, if I try this. Is there any way to do this.
Thanks in advance.

I accomplished this, by dispatching a event from the module, and handling it in the module itself. In the handler I am able to access the component. However it is possible only when I use ModuleLoader. I tried the same using ModuleManager. It didnt work. I am adding the listener in creationComplete event. The event was triggered properly. But the listener was not invoked.
Below is the TestModule i used. In this setLabel is the implemented function.
<mx:Module xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" implements="TestInterface" creationComplete="onCreate()"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" layout="absolute" width="400" height="300">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
[Bindable] public var labelText:String = 'Initial Text';
public function onCreate():void {
this.addEventListener("test",testListener);
public function setLabel(s:String):void {
trace(getQualifiedClassName(parentDocument));
this.labelText = s;
triggerEvent();
public function triggerEvent():void {
trace('triggering event');
dispatchEvent(new Event("test",true));
public function testListener(event:Event):void {
trace('event caught');
trace(moduleLabel.text);
]]>
</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
</fx:Declarations>
<mx:Label id="moduleLabel" text="{labelText}"/>
</mx:Module>
With ModuleLoader I get the following output in console, when the setLabel function is called
ModuleTest
triggering event
event caught
test
With ModuleManger,I get the following output. The event listener is not invoked.
null
triggering event
Also while trying different options, in between I tried using parentDocument. I added the below line in the interface function.
trace(getQualifiedClassName(parentDocument));
This line printed the correct parent class name, while using ModuleLoader. But printed null with ModuleManager.
Following are the functions in main application to load the module using module manager.
public function onCreate():void {
loadTestModule();
public function loadTestModule():void {
var url:String = '';
url += 'TestModule.swf';
modInfo = ModuleManager.getModule(url);
modInfo.addEventListener(ModuleEvent.ERROR,moduleReady);
modInfo.addEventListener(ModuleEvent.READY,moduleReady);
modInfo.load(null, null, null, moduleFactory);
public function moduleReady(event:ModuleEvent):void {
if (event.type == ModuleEvent.ERROR) {
trace(event.errorText);
if (event.type == ModuleEvent.READY) {
mod = modInfo.factory.create() as TestInterface;
var el:IVisualElement = modInfo.factory.create() as IVisualElement;
this.addElement(el);
Am I missing something when I use ModuleManager.

• Call Oracle Packages

Hi
How to call out the Oracle Packages and based on the store procedures the report will automatically capture the data from report body and generate a code. But unfortunatly, we are unable to call the Oracle Packages from the Oracle Database.
Is it possible to generate some command in Crystal Report and inside all these command the user will have several parameter that need to be feed in data to generate the a specific code.
Since the data is come from report body, which means that the parameter will be is dynamic and will keep changing. At this moment we able to set the paramater to static and everytime when user refresh the report the data will not change,if need to change the data will need user to key in. Is there any way that the parameter will direct capture the data from report body and feed into the parameter? In this way everytime user refresh the report will change accordingly and user will no need to key in by themself.
Oracle Database Version : Oracle 10g
Crystal Report: Crystal Report 2008
Kindly suggest.

• XI calling an Oracle Stored Procedure which returns an Object to XI

I am currently trying to call an Oracle Packaged/Procedure from XI which accepts a couple of parameters as I/O and returns an Object as one of the parameters.
I have created the Object within the Oracle Database CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE xy_jdbc AS OBJECT
column_name type ...etc
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE xy_tab_jdbc AS TABLE OF xy_jdbc;
One of the parameters for the stored procedure is set up as this type xy_tab_jdbc this will be populated based upon one of the parameters passed into the Package/Procedure.
Is this possible? If it is, how do I map the returned object within XI?

Dear Hilary,
the JDBC adapter does not support vendor-specific or non-scalar data types.
Workaround: Change the stored proc's signature not to use an object, but the object's fields instead.

• Passing IR column value to Oracle package

All,
I am trying to call an Oracle package from APEX and need to pass value of a IR column in that package. I have tried saying :ADJ_ID but i dont think so its pasing anything to backend.
Here are steps.
1. User runs IR
2. There is a column that I have put as 'ROLLBACK' on that report for each row which has a LINK which calls URL like
javascript:apex.confirm('Sure to Rollback the adjustment?','SUBMIT');
3. Once user confirms submit , I need to call package, package gets called but I want to send a value for that row to package, I am doing that by saying :(colon) notation but it does not work.
Thanks,
Vishal

You will have to set you page item (which you are trying to pass using the colon method in PLSQL) first
You can change your link to
*javascript:apex.confirm("Sure to Rollback the adjustment?", { request:"SUBMIT", set:{"P1_ROW_VALUE":10}});*
P1_ROW_VALUE is the Page item to set and 10 here is the value specific to the ROW
If you are using the Link section in the report attributes
then something like this would do
*javascript:apex.confirm('Sure to Rollback the adjustment?', {request:'SUBMIT', set:{'P1_ROW_VALUE': '#COLUMN_ALIAS#' }});*
COLUMN_ALIAS is the column name whose value you want to set the item with.

• Is it possible to call a Crystal Report from Oracle Forms.

Hi Everybody,
I got a Dout about Crystal Reports. Is it possible to call Crystal Reports from Oracle Forms.

Hello,
That depends are you running Forms via the WEB or client/server. I will assume you are running client/server since you are running crystal reports. The answer is yes. All you will have to do is use the HOST command or the win_api_shell to run the report. Look in the Forms manual for information on the commands and what else you may need.
